Fausto Rios was professional, experienced and quickly successful where I feared something drastic would be required. Using a sewer inspection camera, he found a clog in the sewer line connecting the first floor laundry room and the powder room to the main sewer line. We've been customers with a gold service HVAC plan for 3-4 years. In addition to scheduling issues and sometimes prolonged availability for routine service under our plan, we've had issues with service techs while onsite. One missed a glaring issue that subsequently resulted in flooding and damage to our house. A more recent visit identified issues with our coils and couldn't explain why it was occurring, or if it related to the prior work. Repeated requests to speak with more senior techs were ignored. What was not ignored was our upcoming expiration for their service plan - repeated calls and emails from their customer service to renew. Very disappointed with their level of service and that our issue remains unresolved. read more

Terrible service with absent leadership!!! As required by HOA, I had CroppMecalfe at my property in McLean, VA to perform a routine HVAC inspection. For more than a week, we have been calling daily to request the completed inspection task list to provide to our property management company. Each call we are promised that Josh the supervisor will get it to us by end of day. Josh never sends proof they actually did what is was they were paid to do nor is he available. When trying to contact the manager of Josh the supervisor, they are not available, or any management for that matter. They can send invoices and receive payment. Don't expect much past that. read more

Do NOT recommend. We have used CroppMetcalfe to do our semi-annual HVAC inspections for our condo. Usually the Report/Task List from the inspection is sent automatically, but this time it took several phone calls before they sent it, and it was blank. I have since called multiple times asking for our report and/or to speak to a supervisor. Apparently the supervisor doesn't have a phone number or email address. I haven't received any communication and we still haven't received our task list, and they are still saying that they have "escalated" the issue. It's been a week now and the representative says the information is on the technician's iPad, but isn't able to explain why they can't just send over the report. I will be filing for a chargeback. The manager, Josh, is consistently unavailable and does not answer the phone when the customer service representatives call. Cropp Metcalf has the worst customer service I've ever experienced. We purchased a Navien boiler that cost 18k and has a 5 year warranty. 5 weeks after install it turns itself on to the highest heat and heats our boilers to 185 degrees. I had to run portable AC units to keep the house from over heating and my pets from dying. Kropp Metcalf won't take our calls. The unit won't pass inspection and Kropp Metcalf doesn't care. It could burn my house down and Kropp Metcalf doesn't care. Their online chat told me to unplug the unit. read more

We had a new HVAC system installed last year following a failed inspection. CroppMetcalfe was timely in getting the new unit and having it installed. However, it never worked correctly. Finally, one of the "5 Star Technicians" diagnosed the issue early July - the unit was not installed correctly leaving a gap causing hot air to enter into the system. The technician and I reported the issue immediately and asked for the reinstall to be scheduled. Despite numerous phone calls and conversations with customer service, 5 weeks later I still do not have the reinstall scheduled and no response from the owners or managers. read more

Had a warranty with installation of previous owner. We used because of the warranty; but as soon as warranty was over we went with another HVAC company. They constantly couldn't find us in the system or would send a technician out with a ticket that wasn't under the membership. WILL NEVER USE CROPPMETCALFE AGAIN My HVAC unit stopped working on Thursday, June 11th. My wife and two kids (ages 5 and 3) live in a split level home. All the bedrooms are upstairs. The HVAC that broke serviced our upstairs, so without our functioning A/C during the summer our family had to all sleep together downstairs. CroppMetcalfe sent a technician out on Friday, June 12th, and told me that multiple parts need replacing but could not give me an estimate. I waited through the weekend, calling every day to get an update, but the call representative could not give me any details. On Monday, June 15th, they told me that the repair would not be possible until Monday, June 29th, a full two weeks later, and I had to pay 30% of the repair up front so that they could order the part. This cost about $1800. I agreed to move forward with the scheduled repair, but asked if there was anyway they could expedite the parts, and that I'd be willing to pay extra since my entire family was living on top of each other in our living room. The Cropp representative said they would put a note in to expedite. I called every day after that, asking for an update of when the part was going to arrive. For the first couple days, the Cropp representative would just say "the repair team will notify you when the parts are in." I tried to ask if they could look up when the part was set to arrive (like how you can track a package in the mail or on Amazon), but the response remained, "the repair team will notify you when the part is in." Finally, around Monday, June 22nd, the call representative told me the repair parts were set to arrive that Friday, June 26th. I continued to call every day for an update to see if the part could come sooner. Finally, on Friday afternoon, June 26th, the day the repair parts were supposed to arrive, I called Cropp to confirm the parts had arrived and that I was still slated to have the repair done on Monday, June 29th. It was only then, on that call, that the Cropp representative told me that the parts had not arrived, my repair was not possible for Monday, and that the new scheduled repair date would be the following Thursday, July 2nd. I was incensed that, 1) the repair was further delayed, after waiting for two weeks, and 2) that no one from Cropp told me until I called them. At this point, I told Cropp that I would be canceling my annual service plan with them, would never use their services again, and the only reason why I didn't cancel the repair was because I'd already sunk $1800 into the replacement parts order. Fast forward to the day of the repair, Thursday, July 2nd, and the repair tech showed up without all the necessary equipment and know-how. He had to call another person to come out and help. They finally replaced the two broken parts, but the A/C doesn't even work as good as it did when it was about to go out. The A/C doesn't get nearly as cold as it use to, and we have to run the A/C all day just to keep the room at 75 degrees during the hottest part of the day. Because of this disastrous experience, we demanded a discount. The repair tech said he would talk to his supervisor about a discount. Since the repair, we still have not received any calls or emails from Cropp about the updated bill. We have been calling nearly every day to get an update, but no one responds or cares to follow up. The take away from my story...don't ever use CroppMetcalfe. They are unresponsive. You have to call them to get them to respond. It seems like no one works on the weekends. The internal departments/divisions clearly do not talk to each other, so you have to re-explain your situation every time you talk to a different human. You find out the day of that the company is updating the repair schedule. And it seemed like no one had a sense of urgency to help me get A/C back so that my five- and three-year-old children could actually sleep in their bedrooms with functioning air conditioning. Save yourself a lot of anger, frustration, and money, add do not use CroppMetcalfe. read more

We had an HVAC system replaced recently and it was done by a team of 3 professional installers in about 6 hours (we had expected it to take all day) with only a week's lead time. The system was running fine for about 3 weeks when we got a fault indication. Cropp Metcalfe sent a tech out on the weekend; he basically "rebooted" the system and explained how the new computerized systems are sensitive to power fluctuations (in other words, the power does not need to fail to cause issues). There was no charge. We now know what to try in the future before calling for a technician. We have been customers of Cropp Metcalfe in Fairfax for 22 years now and have only had one minor negative experience. Bottom line: we're quite satisfied with their courtesy, service and expertise. read more

They were very professional, considerate towards our property by wearing shoe covers, and they did a thorough job with the dryer vents. Failed to replace AC cooling parts just installed 3 months ago that failed again. Horrible.

NOT RECOMMENDED; I had concerns with both billing transparency and honest/timely communication. I was told a $50 discount would be applied, but it has not been reflected, and the $441 charge has not been clearly itemized despite multiple requests. The technician spent 1/2 diagnosing the problem and less that 1/2 hour pulling out and replacing a stem cartridge. The work does not align with the charge. I also did not receive follow-up for over two months, and was then informed that legal action might be pursued before these issues were resolved. read more

A technician visited my property on June 1 and to evaluate an AC issue. Nearly two weeks later, I still have not received an estimate, repair recommendation, or any meaningful follow-up communication. The most frustrating part has been the complete lack of responsiveness. The company advertises 24/7 availability, yet I have been unable to reach anyone by phone to obtain an update on my account. Multiple attempts to get information have gone unanswered. This is a rental property, and my tenant is currently experiencing cooling issues during temperatures exceeding 95 degrees. I also have a Section 8 inspection scheduled next week, making timely communication and documentation especially important. Despite knowing the urgency of the situation, CroppMetcalfe has failed to provide the information needed to make a repair decision. The technicians who visited appeared professional, but the office communication, follow-through, and customer service have been extremely disappointing. After two appointments and nearly two weeks of waiting, I am left without an estimate, without answers, and without a clear path forward. As a long-term client (over 20 years) of CroppMetcalfe, I have appreciated the quality of service provided for my HVAC needs across multiple homes. However, my experience with the Home Performance Team has not met the same standard. We engaged this team to address specific challenges in our home, including hotspots, inadequate airflow, and high humidity. Although we followed the expert's guidance and implemented the suggested enhancements--at a significant cost--issues such as high humidity levels (sometimes exceeding 75%+) and persistent hotspots remain. Despite reaching out multiple times to the Home Performance team and its leadership, I received sidesteps and unreasonable suggestions, such as paying for another assessment to identify the same issues we initially sought to resolve. This is disappointing, especially since the initial work did not address key problems we had already paid to fix. I believe it is reasonable to request a team member to review the completed work and ensure everything is functioning as expected, given the substantial investment made in the recommended solutions. Cropp Metcalfe was scheduled to replace my faulty old furnace today ie Saturday February 7th. I called three times and I was told that the technitian was on the way. Then the technician called and said he cannot come. Then I get a text saying that the technician is on the way. Then a person called Chad Riggott calls me to say that the earliest they can have a crew out is Monday. This is utterly unacceptable. My furnace is faulty and can stop at any time. I told Cropp Metcalfe that this was an emergency and that too on the day that the biggest storm in the East Coast is expected. Cropp has failed to live up to their reputation. read more

I had a scheduled AC install today from 8:00 to 12:00. My tech (Peter) arrived just before 8am and his partner and boss (Rigo) soon followed. Both of them were great guys. Professional and upbeat. It was warm and muggy outside but it didn't slow them down. When they were done, everything was brand new, all cleaned up and the house was already cooling down. When I spoke to the representative for a service call to fix my boiler. I asked if it the tech would be able to fix it the same day. The representative assured that the tech would have the part with him and would fix the heater at the visit. He also said that there would be a diagnostic fee of $115 but it does not go towards the repair. The the time window was 12pm-5pm and the tech didn't' show up until 4pm. It literally took tech 10 minutes and wrote up his invoice, and told me that he does not have the part. He also said that is no way that he would have a part because there are so many parts that he would have to bring with him. He also quoted me over $1,100 to just replace a circular pump which costed about $167. He said he would have to order and would not and could not tell me when the part would be available. His office closes at 5pm and he called at 4pm and no one would answer to check the part availability. He also said that there it is not a guarantee if replacing the circular pump would fix the problem and that he may have to replace other parts. It seems like he is just randomly replacing parts. The tech also told me to call the next day to check with the office if the parts are available. So my questions are as follow. 1. If your core business is heating and cooling why would you have all of the parts for the system. Shouldn't you at least know the common issues and carry those parts. I would think the if you told the symptoms, you would have a pretty good idea what the problem would be and not plan to randomly replacing parts. 2. Why would you misinform your customer that it can be fixed the same day when you cannot? 3. Why would you ask your customer to follow? Would you think the tech should check with the office and get back to the customer? I will be demanding my $115 diagnostic fee back as I was misinformed, and heater is not fixed. read more

Then got a call at 4:30pm saying technician running late and now would be arriving between 5pm and 7pm. Called at 5:50pm for status. Told still working o 2nd job. Couldn't tell me when the technician would arrive. I told him to cancel my appointment and find someone else to provide the furnace check. Terrible service. I scheduled an appointment with CroppMetcalfe based on the Google reviews. Unfortunately, I did not have a great experience with the company after being upcharged for various services. Over the phone, I was told there would be about a $90 diagnostic fee for my plumbing issue. If I had them service my toilet, the fee would be applied towards the service. The $90 ended up being more than $400. I was told it would cost $150 to flush my tankless water heater, but ended up being charged nearly $600. Unfortunately, I was not home during the service so I did not find out about the charges until they were already complete. A very unhelpful customer service rep then explained to me that it would be "impossible" for them to keep my appointment because they are prioritizing a/c service calls this summer. We had a new carrier furnace and water heater installed about a month ago. The first sign something might be wrong was the installation. Instead of doing it over two days they had two guys here from 9 o'clock in the morning until 10 o'clock at night. We had no idea whether it was done correctly but just had to wait until they finished. A couple weeks later we noticed a leak in the garage. Apparently the exhaust pipe taking water from the furnace was not working. This had not been a problem previously with the old heater. It has been a continual day-to-day nightmare ever since. The heater is gurgling and pushing water every time it comes on and sometimes it comes on and sometimes it doesn't. They ordered a new pipe two or three days ago and didn't bother to even call us today to give us an estimate on when it would be in we've called several times and the parts department is closed. This seems completely negligent and that they should've been able to tell whether the pipe would support the water running out from the furnace. Now we have to completely turn the furnace on and off frequently and see whether it comes back on because of the water problem. This happens all day long and all night long and we still don't know when it will be fixed. If the furnace fails to come back on, we will not only have a heating problem but we're worried about the pipes freezing because it's 30° outside in December. The lack of concern or attention to detail has been staggering. We only went with this company because of the carrier brand, but we should've gone with a different company that would have been more careful and responsive. read more

Don't waste your time to call them for service. It will cost you your savings for a small issue. Unethical practices. I had my AC fail and called HomeServe, which I have AC warranty contract with, and they use CroppMetcalfe as their service provider. The technician came at the promise time window and was here for 20 minutes and provided an estimate for $5,200 to replace the coil for 2015 AC unit. Since the coil repair is costly, he also suggested to replace the entire unit and will send someone for an estimates. I was surprised by the quick diagnostic and the cost to repair. So I called a different company in Ashburn, VA to receive another opinion. The new company technician was in my house the same day I made the call and spent f over and hour and a half conducting different tests to isolate the issue going up to the attic few times where the unit is located. Finally he indicated and based on the test, it was just low in refrigerant. I paid in total $595 for the service call and 3 pounds of refrigerant, and that's it. It was either an incompetent technician or unethical business practices. I will have to assume it's the latter based on the low ratings reviews.
