Great locally run tavern and grill. We split the Brussels Sprouts salad, it was really good, chewy and substantial. Our main dish items included the veggie burger, and the chicken pot pie. They were both delicious, the veggie burger was one of the best in town. Fries on the side. For me, I got a Lot of great veggies with the chicken skillet pie; mushrooms, celery, onions and more. My friend and I had a lovely lunch here over the weekend. Pro-Tip: Dog Friendly! I was dog-sitting for a friend and was on the search for patios that allowed dogs. Crosby's Kitchen popped up and the photos from brunch looked delicious. We ventured over and I was not disappointed at all. We were told it would be 20-30 minutes for a table but were pleased when after only 10 minutes our table was ready, woohoo! The staff was all very pleasant, great service without being intrusive and they were so kind to bring the pup out a bowl of water. If you go for brunch, you must order the Iron Skillet Blueberry Cornbread. It's $8 and served warm with tons of blueberries and pieces of corn throughout. It comes with a maple butter that's just divine! I think I liked this starter more than my main dish. It was a huge portion, too! Between two of us (and a couple bites for the doggy), we only got through half of it. I ordered the omelette as the combination of ingredients sounded amazing - mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, bacon, spinach topped with hollandaise. It was ever so slightly overcooked and could have used a bit more cheese & bacon but overall was an A-OK omelette with the makings to be an amazing one. It came with a side of my choice and the fruit option was mostly watermelon with some blueberries and a strawberry - all very fresh. Enjoyed Crosby's Kitchen but especially that blueberry cornbread skillet. When you're trying to cut down on carbs and eat one of those....it makes you rethink your whole philosophy on eating! 1 star for Crosby's Kitchen in Niles. Do not go there for breakfast. McDonalds would be a better choice. The food served comes out cold. The hashbrowns are really a potato casserole with hidden ingredients. Hunter the manager will tell you sorry, I will talk to the Chef. I think I went to Crosby's with extremely high expectations. It was great service and the food tasted good but the only thing that wowed us was the cornbread because of how rich it was. The deviled eggs were just that with lobster on top and the chicken sandwich was a little dry. I only ate half and took the other half home to try to remake a little better at home with some sauces. Menu options were also limited as I expected to see a fried chicken sandwich or a unique burger on the menu. Patio space was definitely the selling point here. I've dined here many times with my family. We came for an early dinner on Sunday. We were told the special was prime rib. Our server said the prime rib is cooked medium rare unless I wanted it a different temperature, and I said I actually preferred medium rare. When the prime rib came out, it was cooked well done. After letting our server know, he brought it back to the kitchen and then let us know that the chef said the prime rib has been on the rotisserie for too long that day and all the rest of the orders for prime rib for the rest of the evening will be cooked more at the medium temperature. He asked if he can get me a fresh one at medium temperature and I said yes. He returned with a fresh plate and this time, the prime rib was half the size of the original one, and was still cooked well done. read more

The price for a cheeseburger and a side is fair for this part of town. The cheeseburger isn't anything to write home about though. The cheese on the burger was pretty non existent, it was almost like a slice of Kraft that 75% evaporated. The burger seemed like standard food service fare. The mashed potatoes are ok, but kinda lumpy. I have had worse overall, but I have had plenty better. I would not say I wouldn't give them another try. Would love to rate them higher but their rule of "you have to come here in person to put your name in" is absolutely arcane and wild, especially for Chicago weather and the fact there isn't much space to wait inside the restaurant. Wait around somewhere for 45 min with a -13 degree F windchill? Almost comes off as hostile to me. Like it's 2003 and I want to wait inside the lobby of an Olive Garden. This is a great restaurant in the Southport area! We came on a week night and were seated immediately. We sat outside and it was a beautiful night. They kindly sat us next to the heat lamps outside per our request. Our waitress was very helpful in her suggestions for both food and drinks for all of us! I enjoyed my blackened fish sandwich and chose the mashed potatoes on the side! The sandwich was great but I wish I would've chosen a different side as the mashed potatoes were too dry for me. All good things must come to an end. Nice day started with breakfast at an old favorite. My wife and I decided to split an omelette that came with potatoes or fruit. We chose the potatoes. We also split the French toast. The vanilla-cinnamon French toast was just short of being a tad warm (even whipped butter would not melt on it), yet delicious. Why three stars? you may ask. The place had opened about an 1/2 hour before our arrival. There were just a few tables with patrons. Service was fine. The food was served very quickly. So far, so good. But the speciality lakeview omelette was rubbery, cold and insipid; and the potatoes were equally cold. The manager was apologetic and offered us another side of potatoes. I assume that side would have been hot. We declined. Southport is a great walking street. Crosby will outlive this review as it has outlived its former glory. read more

This is my second time coming to this place - the space is big (there's indoor and outdoor seating) and we got seated immediately. We started with the monkey bread which was AMAZING - I would definitely recommend this to share it with the table as an appetizer (it's essentially a cinnamon roll but a million times better) we shared it between 4 of us. I got the wrightwood salad - it had an ample amount of chicken on it (which isn't common) and had a ton of the toppings . Ordered the spinach and artichoke dip for starters and it was pretty good. What you would expect for a normal appetizer chip dip. For dinner I ordered the roasted chicken with a side of fries instead of the mashed potatoes. The chicken was good. It's fun to see the chicken roast in the kitchen and then a giant portion comes out for your dinner. The chicken is moist and very tender but a little hard to eat without having to tear into it a little bit with your hands. Crosby's Kitchen is a great spot for some good comforting American food. One of those places that works whether you're on a date, with family or friends. Good quality fresh food. Usually great service. Pretty sidewalk patio and nice open dining room-especially if you get a window table. The filet sliders are the best app! The short rib rigatoni and the salmon are both so good that we've ordered them several times. This is the place to go when you just want some simple well done reliable food and you're not in the mood for trying something new. Close to the el and usually not too hard to find street parking. Crosby's Kitchen is exactly what you hope for when you picture Sunday brunch. Although quoted a 30-45 minute wait at 11:00am, we were texted approx. 5 minutes later stating our table was ready. Weird time management, but I wasn't complaining because we were hungry! I started with a mimosa and my boyfriend ordered a Bloody Mary; both were solid, strong choices. For food, I went with the French Toast, which had a rather unique choice of bread. I would have liked if it was dipped in the liquid for longer, and then made a little toastier, but it was still tasty as is! My boyfriend ordered the Warm Chicken Hash, sprinkled a little hot sauce on it, and was thoroughly content. Service was quick and efficient, albeit a bit rushed at times; at one point they tried to clear my plate before I was done! Overall though, a solid experience that we would gladly take out of town guests to. CK is a crowd pleaser for sure. read more

I got the Brussel sprout salad - definitely add chicken and it I did it over again I'd also add avocado. It was a good size and tasted great. I started with the lobster deviled eggs which were delicious but I was lead to believe would be a larger portion then what I received. We split the salads which were all delicious. I am a big fan of the salads at Crosby's Kitchen. Then I decided to get the ribs since that is what they are famous for. I don't eat ribs that often but I'm so glad I made the choice. They were so tender and the meat practically fell off the bone. The meal ended with the carrot cake. It was moist and very rich. Terrific food. Terrific service. Pricey, but generally worth it. But if you want to take your wife there to celebrate her birthday, don't expect them to make any kind of big deal about it. I went in to get a table before my wife got there, and let them know it was her birthday. Because it's a big thing. It's a big deal. I mean, it's not a cheap place, and it's kind of a special occasion kind of a place. So, I said that it was my wife's birthday. The waitress said that they don't comp dessert, but they would stick a candle in there. It was this weird kinda burn. "Throw a candle in there?" Weird, right? So, I said, you know, it's a big deal that it's her birthday, and she gave me the cold shoulder. So, I said, "if you don't want to wish my wife a happy birthday, that's on you." So, the manager came over to give me crap about making the waitress feel bad. Really? It's my wife's birthday! We come here for special occasions! Come on. "I'll find you a different server" the manager says, kinda making it clear that I'm lucky that she's not throwing me out. Just then, my wife comes in, and I say, "hey, it's my wife! It's her birthday!" So cold as can be, the manager says, "have a pleasant birthday". HAVE A PLEASANT BIRTHDAY? IS THAT EVEN A THING?? We have a really expensive dinner, and it was good. I got the special, which was excellent, and my wife got an array of appetizers and sides, which is generally a good way to taste what the chef wants to show off, which is *precisely* what she wanted for her birthday. "Wow me." And, it was ok, but "just" ok, if you know what I mean. But, you know what was super weird? The veggie of the day was asparagus, so we both ordered asparagus to go with our meal. When the meals came out, they brought pesto cauliflower with wilted red pepper. They had run out of asparagus, and didn't even bother to tell us, or come by and say, "is there a different side that you'd prefer?" or ANYTHING that when two people are dropping big dollars, you'd expect. Just, here-have-this-funky-green-stuff. No explanation. "What is that?" "Cauliflower." "We ordered asparagus." "We're out" "Can we get something other than cauliflower" "Sure. What do you want?" "I dunno. What do you have?" I got the broccoli, which was good, but, then I needed to ask for butter, and by the time the butter got there, the broccoli was cold. My wife liked the cauliflower concoction, btw, and I don't want to sound petty, but much worse restaurants handle these little issues much better. So, the big moment. The moment we've all been waiting for. The big birthday dessert! We ordered the skillet cookie, which was both very fun, and very worth the calories. But remember that candle from the snotty waitress at the beginning? The one who said that they don't comp dessert, but they'd throw in a candle? Well, no candle, no writing on the plate, no "happy birthday" piped onto the cookie, nothing. And, again, such worse places do things SO MUCH BETTER. Now, I had told EVERYBODY WHO WORKED THERE THAT I COULD SNEAKILY TELL that it is my wife's birthday, and it's a BIG THING to me, and the whole reason we were there. "Oh, it's your birthday?" says the guy who brings dessert, surprised, and he was really nice, and said that my wife was beautiful and looks 23, which was great. Then he sat down at the third chair at the table, and he and I sang the happy birthday song. Which was really sweet. Not what I was expecting -- not by a long shot -- but sweet. SERIOUSLY! I could not have made it clearer that it was a big thing to me. They could not have made it clearer that they just didn't care. Go, have a nice dinner. Came here for an impromptu brunch on a Saturday morning/afternoon. There was about a 20 minute wait, but seats at the bar were open and it was full service. The menu had a very nice selection- I ordered the Wrightwood salad and my partner ordered some sort of chicken pot pie with biscuits meal..I forgot the name of it. Anyway, both meals, and the drinks, were REALLY good!! We will definitely be returning for more!! Oh- my partner also really enjoyed the lobster deviled eggs. We have been going to Crosby's for about 6 years. I feel that the quality of the food is seriously declining. We loved this spot as it is kids friendly restaurants and you can usually get in no problem. However, tonight's experience was just not good at all. Our drink order was messed up - which can happen, no biggie. Our guacamole looked brown ish/old and it also tasted like that. I felt kinda grossed out by it. Lastly, my salmon was seriously undercooked and raw inside. I mean it is not sushi! The server asked me how I want the salmon cooked which I was kinda like huh? I was never asked that about fish. However, I said fully cooked and she was like ok so well done. Well it was raw. At that point I was like let's just get out of here. We took the leftovers with which now I don't know why, because we threw them away. The only good dish we had was the kids chicken and the chicken sandwich with the dip.. sorry but for $109 for a dinner I should have a decent experience. I really felt icky eating this food. I know brunch at Crosby's is good so we will definitely stick to that and won't be coming back for dinner any time soon . read more

Speaking about likes and dislikes, the rotisserie chicken salad was a total dislike for me. It was heavy and overly oily, the chicken was bland and flavorless. It gave an impression that some left over roti chicken from some grocery store had been chopped up haphazardly to make this salad!. The salad itself was chewy, making me feel that they had obtained the services of the more senior members of the green vegetable family to make it. The service however was good. I have been to Crosby's several times and each time the service is incredible as are the food and drinks. They serve an amazing aperol spritz which I have paired with the cornbread and spinach dip appetizers (both delicious and flavorful). I have also enjoyed the wrightwood salad (added chicken), the chicken dip sandwich with a side of broccoli, and the Grilled Mahi Mahi sandwich (separate occasions!). All of these entrees have been so good. Their fries are so crispy as well. I also cannot recommend their carrot cake enough. It so moist with an amazing cream cheese frosting layer!! i went with a couple of coworkers a couple of weeks ago and was disappointed. Let's start with the good - the buffalo shrimp appetizer was delicious, I highly recommend. It was down hill from there though. We all had the fish and chips and it was more batter than fish. We then all ordered dessert. The keylime pie was good, the carrot cake came out wrong the first time but the second time was the charm. Unfortunately , I can't say the same for the cookie. The first one was clearly uncooked and the second one was more brown on top but still uncooked in the middle. It was untouched and the waiter did not offer a refund or substitute. I doubt that I will go back. Very disappointed overall. read more

This place has great service and a nice seating around outside. You get to people watch while you eat. We shared their chicken dip sandwich. Lots of meat, it was tender, and the bread was good. I'm not a big breast fan when it comes to chickens ;) but it was still very tasty. The key lime pie was to die for! I loved how it wasn't too sweet or too tart. Just right. The whipped cream was average and crust too fell to pieces but their filling was the winner here. Would definitely come back and try something else or even try out their brunch menu.
