They were careful everything, and i have lots of little porcelain dolls and glassware that need to be carefully wrapped and transported. Moving my home and business (I work from home) is extra stress for me because my computer equipment is my work, my source of income! They handled everything with care. Uprooting is very tedious and they helped relieve a lot of that stress. All my delicates were wrapped nicely and easy to unpack. They coordinated the boxes in the designated rooms so I didnt have to do any lifting. They were also very responsive and polite. This is for Cross Country Movers DOT 2780116 MC 925601. Apparently lots of companies use this name, so I have included the identifying numbers. I thought I was working with a good company. We had to do a next day move and didn't have time to check with too many estimates. We gad already gotten a preliminary quote of over $6000 from a major co. So when I spoke to Juan, I repeatedly asked him if the quote was solid, or could there be an upcharge. He assured me that barring any last minute large item additios on our part, there would be no changes. We were instructed to have certified funds or a money order bazed on the quoted figure to give to the driver the ndxt day. Seems like that made it a solid quote. Never did Juan say that there could be an upcharge. Although the contract does somewhat ambiguously say that could happen, we recieved the contract online in 2 or 4 font, and it was difficult to read. I was relying on Juan's representations as an authorized agent of the company. When the movers showed up, they charged an additional $50 to put a 42 in tv in a box, and $80 to slap an 18 x 24 in. piece of bubble wrap across the glass doors of a hutch. When tbe truck was packed and ready to roll, the said it was $1100 more, because we had gone over the limit. No lafge pieces had be added by us. Of course, Juan was "on another call", and tben "gone until Monday" when we tried to call him. To get the truck rolling, we had to sign an agreement to pay the $1100. I hired Cross Country to move from NyC to CT - their customer service was amazing till they secured my business and then it was horrible. They charged me $500 extra for parking alone as their contract says they will only move 75 ft without incremental charges (its 75 ft from my lobby to my apt). They picked it up from the shipping company on Tuesday (which I thought was a bit of a wait) and told me they would deliver it on Friday. I called Friday morning to verify and was told it would be delivered between 1 and 4 and they would call one hour before. I called at 3:15 because I had not heard from them and they told me they forgot to put it on the truck that day and it wouldn't be del until Monday. They recognized their mistake but refused to do anything ab it until the next shipping day. they will have it for 6 days before they could deliver it to me. I used Cross Country Movers to move from the East Coast to the West Coast. I looked at other options, such as the various pod companies. Cross Country was recommended by a friend who had moved last year, and had good reviews on Yelp. Cross country was probably not the cheapest option, but not unreasonable. It was the least stressful option and with their extroadinary customer service, it was the right choice for me and I would recommend them to anyone. Their minimum move costs about 2500. You can call them for an estimate, as I did, and they will ask about your furniture and estimate the number of boxes. This estimate can be off though, depending on how much you get rid of before you move. My quote was much higher than their minimum, but after going through my things, getting rid of furniture, and packing up boxes, I realized I would have a lot less than the estimate, so I called them back and we re-evaluated and I got a better price. On the phone the sales reps were helpful and courteous. I called them a few times and always spoke to the same guy and he was knowledgable. He also emailed me the estimate and revisions to estimates immediately after our phone call each time. The guys who came to take my stuff could not have been nicer. They arrived early in the window that was given to me. They called me about 20 - 30 minutes before they arrived to give me a heads up. There were three guys, and they came up and talked to me, I told them what was going and what was not going, and they started wrapping up my furniture in furniture pads. They took apart my bed and packed it. They put my mattress in a mattress bag. They explained their system and numbered my boxes and each piece of furniture with stickers that had my name on it. They were very professional, efficient and nice. They gave me a checklist of everything that they loaded for me to verify. It was very smooth and quick. On the other end, I was informed by text message several times as to the location of my goods as they traveled. About 7 days later I received a call and we set up a date for delivery only 10 days after my move. The movers on the West Coast were just as nice as the East Coast movers. They gave me a list and had me check off items as they were brought up to my place. They put my furniture in place and back together. They removed all materials. I checked off the boxes and pieces on the list as they brought them in. Everything was accounted for and as I found out eventually, everything arrived in good condition, no breakage or scratches. I recommend getting new boxes from U-haul. They will buy back any extra you do not use. They have standard sizes of small, medium and large so you can tell the moving estimator how many of what kind you will have. After traveling across the country, my brand new boxes were crushing down enough from the bouncing that they were not reusable. So pack well and use new boxes. Not that anything broke. As it turned out everything made it and nothing was damaged. Moving was stressful enough. I had to make many decisions. I decided to go with Cross Country and I moved the things that were most important to me. They made it easy. read more

Just completed my move from NYC to Denver and happy to recommend Cross Country Movers. I chose them because they were at least $500 cheaper than every other company I got quotes from. That might scare some people off, but their reviews convinced me to book with them. My move initiated on 12/7. The pack up crew was very polite and thorough. They wrapped everything even better than I would have myself (literally took 30 minutes to wrap my couch up like a burrito). It took about 2 - 2.5 hours to pack up my 1 bedroom apartment. The guys did mention gratuity several times but that "it was my choice" *hint *hint. I wasn't bothered because I already planned to tip them and they exceeded my expectations. I was told I would receive a text as soon as my shipment left NYC and I would be able to GPS them every step of the way. That part didn't happen. I drove to Denver and around the 19th still hadn't heard that they had left NYC so I was getting very worried. On Christmas Eve I received a text that my shipment was in Illinois. So it left NYC without notifying me and I didn't get any sort of GPS saying where they were, but I just let it go now that the texts were coming through. My shipment arrived 12/26, which was BUSINESS day 12 with the Holiday (gotta remember that 14-day window is business days). The drop off crew called me the night before, texted me a couple of hours before and called me about 20 mins before they showed up at my house. The drop off crew was equally thorough. Much less talkative, but just as friendly and didn't mention gratuity at all. Actually, they barely told us bye, and we had to run after them for their tip. While they are unloading they are calling off box numbers and I am marking them as received. A box was left behind on the big truck here in Denver and the guys tracked it down and brought it back to my house within about 2 hours. The drop off took about an hour total. A few things I packed myself were broken. A candle holder that didn't mean anything and a cup. The crockpot I packed was all dented, but still works. And they broke a knob off of my coffee table. None of this was a big deal to me, definitely not worth filing a claim over. Because I didn't file a complaint they said they wanted to do something for me so they sent me a $20 Starbucks gift card, which I thought was nice, lol. I replaced the knob for $3. I was very pleased with the whole thing from start to finish. My husband shipped a ton of music equipment (guitars, amps, cabinets) and our 55 inch TV, they were all in perfect condition when they arrived. I emphasize this because there are several other similarly named companies out there that, apparently, do not provide as good a service as Cross Country Movers (CCM) does. On with the review. Our experience with CCM in relocating from Los Angeles to New Jersey has been fantastic. From day one, our assigned contact, Phillip, proved to be extremely nice, responsive and helpful in providing us a rough cost estimate and timeline. Phillip listed in great detail for us the factors that would cause that estimate to increase or decrease, such as size and number of boxes, whether we elected to pack them ourselves or had CCM do it for us, and amount of furniture and appliances. We were able to adjust the size of our move in real time thanks to Phillip's patience and guidance in order to fit our budget. We were able to text Phillip pics of our furniture and many other other items to help refine the estimate even further and discuss with him over the phone anything that might need clarifying. Phillip was incredibly responsive to our every request for information at all stages of our move. He provided us with a reasonable window for the arrival of the truck, and the crew arrived on the early side of that window after calling us 30 minutes ahead of their arrival. The pick up crew showed up with a smile and full of energy and muscle. They were all extremely nice, courteous and careful, and moved at a very fast clip to get everything safely packed and loaded onto the truck within 5 hours of their arrival. They kept a running barcoded list of everything that was being packed and loaded onto the truck, which greatly facilitated proceedings at the other end. The delivery time window was similarly painless to arrange with Phillip's help. As we were having some work done on our new home in NJ, Phillip agreed to hold our stuff for longer than we thought normal at no extra charge. Again, the delivery crew showed up on time and, again, was very courteous and careful with our belongings. As they unloaded our boxes and furniture, we were able to check off items from the printed list to ensure every box and every item was accounted for. After an almost 3,000-mile trip, we were pleasantly surprised to see that virtually everything had survived the trip intact. The few glasses or dishes that broke were the ones we packed. None of the items packed by CCM suffered any damage during the trip. Overall, we cannot ask for a better experience and wish to commend Phillip once again for the fabulous assistance he provided throughout this process. His calm and helpful guidance helped us make correct and timely decisions and alleviate the stress usually associated with cross country moves. My cousin who has just got married and moved to Denver told me to contact Cross Country Movers, said they were local and very efficient, so I took her word for it. The prices they told me were very reasonable, and they said they'd can get the job done under 2 days. So I went for it. Needless to say, the movers have exceeded to my expectations, they arrived on time on a day of a departure, they were handling the boxes and furniture with care, they were enthusiastic, they didn't fool around and left as soon as they packed up the truck, and arrived at promised time as well. They got the job done even sooner. My momma flew to Florida, I stayed in the city, and we bought kept track. They left at 10:00 am on a Sunday, and were in Florida at 4 PM on a Monday. I'm still wondering where some of my stuff is. I wish I could give these guys good reviews, because the movers I met at both ends of the trip were wonderful regular people who were honest, forthright, efficient, and careful with my stuff. The paper pushers in between, however, are incredibly untrustworthy. They quoted me an affordable price (the minimum, apparently) but when the movers got there, I found out that the number of floors in my apartment wasn't quoted to them correctly, and the rate was jacked up by a couple hundred dollars. I was happy to tip the movers for their trouble (and I did), but I don't understand why I'm liable for a mistake or a handout for the corporate staff that can't get it together. The movers were also overscheduled: they came four hours late, and I almost missed my flight. When I complained to corporate about it, they claimed they had "a policy of not recommending customers fly the same day as their move". First I'd heard of it. And anyway, what do you expect me to sleep on now that the apartment is empty? They ended up pulling the typical moving company trick of surprising me with all these problems as soon as they knew they had my stuff in their hands. They stopped sending me status updates about where my stuff was as soon as I started fighting the charge, and the shipment ended up arriving two weeks later than their first estimate (none of it in writing, of course), after I paid the extra fees they stuck on top. Worse, because they're consolidated shippers, they put your stuff in a warehouse with flimsy barcoded stickers that are supposed to identify your shipment. At least one box didn't arrive, and I lost a pair of expensive headphones worth at least a hundred dollars. I hope whoever lifted them is enjoying the sound. read more

DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY! This was my first and last experience hiring a moving company. The only reason I am not giving one star, is because the actual packing and loading of my items by the movers went seamlessly. The company, however, made it difficult from the very beginning and I paid a ridiculous amount of money for terrible service. I was only moving from NYC-Massachusetts, which they promised would be accomplished all in one day due to the short distance, and it was a complete nightmare. After quoting me the original price, they promised to call the week of the move and go over the items and details for the move. The day before I still hadn't been contacted and when I called, they said their system was down and could not look up or confirm any information. I understand things happen, and tried to be accommodating. After calling a couple times that day they said that the space was confirmed and the movers would be there the next day during a 4 hour window and would give me a one hour update before. The next day, I'm waiting, and waiting...and waiting. No call or update from the company past the four hour window. I had to call around and be transferred multiple times to finally be put in contact with the driver of the truck. Driver arrived two hours PAST the end of the window, and then said because of the late hour they wouldn't be able to deliver the items until the next morning. Luckily, I was able to adjust my schedule and planned to drive up to Massachusetts and stay the night, so that they could deliver the items the first thing the next morning. Of course, as you can guess, even though I actually ended up packing less things than originally quoted, they tried to explain that there was an extra $150 fee to be added to the move because some of the items ended up being larger (which I doubt) and took up more space. Fine. I had to pay the extra $150 and they left, planning to deliver the items the next morning. The next day I am trying to be patient and waiting to hear from the movers. Again, nothing. Waiting, waiting, trying to give them the benefit of the doubt. Finally after noon I called the company trying to get some answers, as I had to leave the state to be somewhere else the next day. After calling around and being transferred again and again, someone finally tells me that the truck broke down and my items were in the truck at some shop somewhere, and wouldn't tell me where my items were. They then informed me that my items wouldn't be delivered for THREE more days!! Thanks for the update that I had to go looking for. This company NEVER once called me. After scheduling everything, I was constantly calling them looking for any update on my move. Even when things went wrong, they didn't even have the decency to call their customers and inform them. I had to make so many last minute changes to my plans and it cost me extra money to adjust them. I was able to have a family member there on Sunday to accept the items for me, and I received an angry call from the movers demanding the money before they took a single item off the truck. I had no problem paying them, but after the horrible service I had received, I don't think I should have had to pay extra fees on top of tipping the driver and the mover who were trying their best considering the circumstances. I called customer service numerous times throughout this experience to NO avail, they just transferred me to other people and cited the "contract" and told me they hadn't violated any terms. Instead of communicating with their customers and making things right when things go wrong, they were rude, unhelpful, and overall a horrible experience. I haven't even gotten to see my items yet and I pray they aren't damaged. Please do not use this company!! There has to be a more responsible and personable moving company for your long distance move. Trust me, this stress and anxiety was NOT worth the money. read more
