    Chicken Greek Style
    Agnes K.

What a fantastic Greek restaurant. The staff was incredibly welcoming and kind. It is not a very big place, but feels very cozy. Food was absolutely delicious , the Greek chicken was amazing! Everything on the menu was reasonably priced and the food being served throughout the restaurant was very generously portioned. Wish I had tried this place sooner!

Truly a legit Greek restaurant. Reasonably priced (cash only), which is not a bad thing. A good sized menu serving authentic Greek appetizers, sandwiches, and full meals. Their salads are no joke! Excellent fresh veggies loaded into your plate and generous helpings of feta cheese. The small are large and the large can be shared. The egg lemon soup is the real deal. This is easily the kind of place you can find yourself a few times a week. There really is something fur everybody here.

Cross-Rhodes is one of my favorite places to get a burger. I've come here for many, many years and have eaten countless burgers. I get the Charburger with feta, and it's served with all the fixins on a sesame bun. It's always perfectly grilled and juicy and is served with Greek fries (crispy cottage with vinegar and oregano) which are just amazing. My friend has always ordered the vegetarian salad with slices of gyro with a cup of avgolemono soup. The tzatziki sauce is thick and garlicky and so good. Portions are very generous. Cross-Rhodes is nothing fancy but if you want simple and hearty Greek food, you'll find it here. Staff has been here for ages. Cash only but there's an ATM in the vestibule. Once long ago, we considered living around the corner from Cross-Rhodes, which would have been a disaster for my hips. As it is we make a regular pilgrimage and I'm always happy and excited to get a burger and look forward to the next visit.

My boyfriend has been wanting to take me to Cross-Rhodes forever as they have one is his favorite burgers; The Rhodes Burger, which is a half pound burger patty with cheese, topped with gyros meat on a sesame seed bun. It sits on a bed of steak cut Greek fries, which are equally loved. It's a big burger and will keep you full for most of the day. He asked for it to be cooked medium, and it was perfectly medium. I took a couple of bites, and the meat was so soft and juicy and the gyros was perfectly crispy. They don't skimp on the gyros. I ordered chicken souvlaki with grilled vegetables and tzatziki sauce. Chicken kabob in general is pretty similar from restaurant to restaurant, but their chicken kabob was one that I especially enjoyed. It had great flavor, wasn't dry, but also wasn't swimming in juice and had a beautiful char. I love a char on my meats, so it was pretty hard to not finish my plate. The tzatziki was very good - thick, with good flavor and not overly garlicky. The service was wonderful. We were greeted upon arrival and as we left by who I assume was the owner. Our waitress was very sweet and personable and made you feel right at home. Very cozy place. If you're in the area, be sure to give it a try.

Cross rhodes was there first place I ate at when moving to Evanston. It will always have a special place in my heart. The restaurant is cash only which makes it really difficult for me to visit without making a separate trip to an ATM first. If it's your first time here, definitely get the gryo dinner plate with tzatziki sauce. This plate will feed you twice and you will be dreaming of the sauce.

    Burger flattened for delivery

Mediocre food, terrible delivery. Burger was pressed flat. Fries were soggy. $7 for a 3oz container of hummus.

Their supposedly "authentic", "fresh" and "culinary treasure" Mousaka is really just frozen food re-heated on their griddle.

I've come here for most of my life, and my advice is still the same: get the Greek chicken with wet fries and a side of the lemon rice soup!

Service-wise, she was attentive and kind. We ordered a full spread and specifically asked for the courses to be paced so we could enjoy everything. When three appetizers came out at once, I politely reminded them and asked to hold off on bringing additional dishes. Unfortunately, despite that, the rest of the food continued to come out all at once. It made the experience feel rushed and frustrating, especially since dishes started getting cold before we could enjoy them. The highlights were definitely the zucchini chips, artichoke, and Greek salad, fresh, flavorful, and easily the best items we had. The rest was underwhelming. The octopus was just okay, the grilled calamari was chewy and lacked flavor, and the red snapper was a bit dry. We also never received the broccolini we ordered, which added to the disappointment. There's potential here, especially with some of the appetizers and the warm service, but the pacing and overall execution need improvement to really elevate the dining experience.

I called in and ordered a gyros combo over the phone and the employee was like "okay a number ten, anything else?" I replied no and was at the restaurant in 10 minutes. I get there and the menu says the # 10 is a chicken breast sandwich ‍. So I go to the cashier and make sure theyre making a gyros, which they werent. But the kids were really chill about it and started to make the gyros instantly when they realized thats what I wanted. A greek gyro is unlike any other. Thin strips, perfectly placed into the pita. Sauce was over all the strips not just the top. Fries looked to be the frozen kind(still fried perfectly tho) but they complemented the sandwich just right. All in all, great place and the restaurant itself was SUPER clean. I would just recommend not to repeat the combo # to customer to confirm what they want since some people may not know the difference between a #1 and a #10. Either way I recommend.

We didn't notice until our way out but they also have a drive-thru, and signs that say they offer delivery/are on DoorDash, so with multiple options, Charcoal Flame is convenient. This building looks like it possibly used to be an old 90s/00s KFC or Pizza Hut or something, but it's cozy and clean and we love an easy access parking lot. The menus are expansive and you order at the counter when you walk in. There are plenty of tables for dining in, and a few were taken while we were there. There was a steady stream of phone orders coming in for pick up, and the restaurant was busy overall. We were helped right away and the staff at the counter were so friendly. I ordered a Maxwell street sausage as a meal ($5 additional for a drink and fries) and my partner ordered the American Gyro sandwich and also as a meal. We grabbed a table and our drinks from the fountain machine and only waited a few minutes for the number on our receipt to be called with our order. The food here is so fresh and delicious. This is one of the best Maxwell street sausages I've had around, the bread was perfect and soft inside and crispy on the outside with the sausage split and grilled and perfectly sweet caramelized onions. The fries looked like they came in frozen/pre-cut but were fried up perfect and a generous portion. The Gyro came stacked with meat, it wasn't dry, and had great flavor. Because the food was so delicious I decided to grab a piece of baklava to go, which I was assured was homemade and delicious - and they were right. So sweet, fresh, textured, rich, luxurious. Don't skip the baklava when you stop by! This is definitely a spot that will be added to our regular rotation of lunch/dinner spots around town. I also got their Kefte Dinner Plate for my son Alex. Alex said his kefte plate was good. I, on the other hand, found my touted Gyros plate, kinda "meh". The meat was kinda bland, although those humongous greek potato wedges were awesome! I bought the pork chops for din-din with my wife later that night. Unfortunately, the chops were tough and chewy! I know it's tough to cook pork chops, but, they're a restaurant. You'd think they'd know how to cook pork chops the right way. So, in conclusion, it was a big letdown for me on this new find. I'd have to say that their servings are quite abundant, but It terribly lacks in taste and texture, and I don't think quantity equals quality here.
