Went for dinner, had a taste for fish and chips. When it came to me it was obvious it was fried from frozen, the breading was soggy. Had to peel off the batter coating just to be able to eat the fish inside. My husband got the perch which turned to be a much better choice, he however questioned the Cesar salad, it appeared to be a mix of Romaine and iceberg. And it had tomatoes. No parm on it and a small vessel of dressing, for this "Cesar salad" he was charged extra. It did seem to be a local favorite watering hole as the bar counter was packed with a few standing. I have been going there since 1979. My mom&Dad would stop there on our way up to our cabin on Houghton Lake on Friday nights. The place has a very good steak selection and a very fair price. I have not had a bad meal in all the years. My mom's favorite was the frog legs god rest her soul. The sandwich's are big enough to share. read more

A lot of locals really like this place and it seems to be consistently busy so I thought I would try it. I got wings as an appetizer and they were just like the kind you buy from Gordon's thick breading gooey on the inside. Not my fav. The salad was plain iceberg lettuce with two tomatoes. I got fish and chips thinking this would be a good place to get it if you were going to get it anywhere and I was not impressed. It was soggy and you could literally pick it up in the water ran out of it like they cooked it from Frozen it was definitely not hand battered it reminded me of Van de camps that you get from Kroger. My partner got a burger which did seem good. Could have you seasoning but it was a big Patty and it had some crispy edges. There's plenty of seating it's sort of a cheers vibe there. Like the same 10 people keep coming in. The waitress was readily available although she was not the most friendly she never smiled and she said you're welcome before you said thank you. It was just a really off experience. I don't plan to go back. Having said that about 20 people piled in as I was leaving. Like I said the locals love it but it just wasn't for me. read more

Went for a late lunch for two. Got water and menu. Waited 15 minutes for server. She took our order and we sat there a half hour. No sign of the server. Bartender came over and told us no one gave them our order. Another half hour and food finally came. Then the missing server shows up with a child in tow. The food was ok. Waited another 20 minutes for the bill. The drinks were never refilled. The bartender was busy talking to customers at the bar about where to meet to see a band playing later I finally walked up and asked to pay the bill. Sorry to interrupt. I won't be back. Divey kind of place but food was very good and fresh tasting, service was good and the Trash Can drink was a LOT of fun! Definitely worth getting. We all had the burrito - which could be shared with 2 people. Also had the fish and chips meal. The cod were nice plump sized, not too much breading so you got only fish. The tartar sauce was a nice addition. Also a decent size and brought home one piece of fish and some fries. Our cousin said he went here as a kid for family dinners over 40 years ago and the decor hasn't changed but it's still a good family place with good food. After not eating at the Crossbow for a while, I had a hankering for a good steak and went there on a Saturday night. It was not too busy. I ordered a ribeye and baked potato. The waitress soon came back and I was told they were out of baked potatoes, even though it was only 7 PM on a Saturday night. Apparently too, they no longer have the cracker basket. Pretty soon the ribeye came. It was very hard to cut and even harder to chew. It was probably the worst ribeye I ever had. To add insult to injury, when I paid, they still have the credit card service fee. Not impressed. read more

The entre was not good. I got the baked cod and broiled shrimp. The Knight's salad was good. Fresh lettuce and chunks of bleu cheese in the dressing. But the cod was over-seasoned and watery. The shrimp did not seem broiled, but boiled and tough. And they were not hot. The fries were ok. They could have been cooked longer, the insides were a little raw. The only reason I even gave it two stars is because the service was very good. The decor is really corny. They are trying for a medieval look, I think. But it has the look of a DIY'er. One star is for the fact that I will return. I will return to try one of their burgers because they looked and smelled delicious! And those fries looked like the devil's starchy fingers willing me to try them. Anyway... My own culinary experience was very disappointing. I started with a clam chowder. It was shockingly free of the flavor of clam...or anything else especially identifiable. I have a sensitive palate. I am great at determining even subtle elements of a flavor profile. All I tasted was salt. A few bites was all I managed, which became the theme of the experience. My salad was your typical Midwest salad. Iceberg lettuce in a bowl with a frozen tomato, half a boiled industrially farmed egg, shredded carrot, a bunch of processed croutons - hold the cheese. It was a pretty big portion as side salads tend to go, but predictably uninteresting. The entree I chose was the day's special - a sirloin strip with shrimp, and a baked potato, along with my soup and salad, and I thought I'd indulge foolish hope by adding a market price lobster tail. The cook must have some powerful magic, let me tell you! I requested my steak to be cooked MEDIUM. It arrived rare, medium, AND well done with the medium portion being about a 2-inch strip in the very center. The shrimp were fried. The menu didn't specify, and I should have asked, but I somehow just assumed they would be grilled. No matter. They were lovely as fried shrimp go. Plump, and cooked perfectly! Now...here is possibly the most magical part of my dinner... The baked potato, which was unfortunately cooked in foil, managed to be more bland and flavorless than any baked potato ought to be. I don't know how that happens. I LOVE simple baked potatoes. Just rubbed in oil and salt and then topped only with butter and s&p and maybe a little scallion or cheese sometimes. But this potato managed to be disappointing. The lobster tail is a woeful tale, and I am sorry that creature died for this. It was frozen. The shell was brittle and splintery. The flesh was over cooked to the rubbery end of difficult to cut with my steak knife. It was topped with clarified butter, which seemed to have been made with salted butter. The sodium concentration was bitterly offensive. (Note to chef: clarified butter should only be made with unsalted butter because the clarification process concentrates the fats, so as water is removed, salt also becomes concentrated.) I didn't finish a single thing, but I did bring the steak home to fix up and add to an omelet for breakfast and a quesadilla for lunch. All this said, I realized complaining wouldn't get me far by watching the tables around me, and I also really hate it that servers catch all the negativity for things outside their control. I paid my bill, and I tipped my server generously along with a note thanking her for doing HER best. I hope I go try a burger and fries and then return here to update this and add a couple more stars. read more

My lovely wife and I decided recently to give this restaurant yet another chance. We have been in Grand Blanc for over 10 years and this was only our 2nd visit. Everyone we talks to says that this place serves excellent food. I am going to guess that these people all drink before, during, and after dinner and do not truly have any recognition as to what excellent food really is? We tried a steak, and fish and chips. Both items were okay and we went home once again disappointed. For the price, LUCKYS in our area has much better food and service for that matter. Restaurant definitely needs a facelift. You can tell this is a place that relies on their "regulars" that have been going there for years. The food was great, but service lacked. Not to mention the bottom of the receipt it states there is a 3.0% service charge for non cash payments. As frustrating as that is, we paid with a card. Our payment receipt was a higher price than on our original receipt. When we inquired about it, we were told it's a 3.75% charge and they haven't had a chance to change the receipt. But looking at a review from over two years ago, they were also charged 3.75%, so over two years is plenty of time. We were also told there was a sign on the door. The sticker on the door was maybe 2x4" in the corner of the window, and that stated 3.99%. So which one is it? Employees were not polite about it either. read more

I feel like the meal in and of itself was a good meal, but all the meat was hidden by cheese so I didn't know where to stab to get the meat, but other than that, it was a good meal. Katie: I had the smothered chicken, but instead of rice, I got mixed veggies. The chicken came out with two large breasts so I got some leftovers. The flavor was good and it had mushrooms, so of course I loved it. The veggies were steamed, so they weren't anything special. The decor in here is so cool-I feel like I'm in an old castle. I'm curious as to why Bloody Mary's are served in whiskey glasses? Why are they so strong we couldn't drink them? I ordered the Monte Cristo (which I do everywhere it's available) and it was the worst I've had to date. Not horrible just basically a heavy loaded ham and cheese sandwich. Don't let the lack of windows fool you, inside is great decor and a well lit atmosphere. First thing you notice when walking in is the cleanliness and attention to detail. There is definitely a medieval theme. It's like interior design was done by the guy who did drapes for King Arthur. They have a good selection of sandwiches, salads, appetizers, burgers and platters. Food is good and quite tasty. Also, the staff is very personable and friendly. Definitely worth a visit, great for grabbing a drink with a friend or a low key date night. I'll be back! read more

Here is my biggest problem... the surcharge that they now have for using debit/credit cards.... With most people using direct deposit these days, most people do not carry much cash with them. I am in business myself, and a former restaurant owner, and understand that credit card companies change a few for using their service. That is the cost of doing business. We will no longer go there because of this fee. And I have spoken to many other people that have told me the same thing. There are way too many choices out there today between Grand Blanc and Fenton. Such a great restaurant! The only problem is that you'll find a favorite item on the menu and never try anything different because it's just that good (I can't not order the monte cristo every time). The wait staff have all been there forever and are astoundingly efficient and friendly. Lunch at the Crossbow Inn is a very relaxing experience. The staff was very polite and accommodating. It has a very 1980s feel to it. They sport a pretty decent clam chowder which I started out with. I was told they were known more for their burgers but I opted for a Reuben. The sandwiches are pretty hearty and not over priced. I think my girlfriend and I both got soup, soft drinks, and a sandwich and the bill was around $25. Tiny little restaurant in downtown Grand Blanc. I ordered the spinach salad and absolutely loved it. Huge portion and very fresh. The other guests at my table enjoyed their meals as well. One ordered the fajitas and another the steak sandwich. The steak sandwich was such a large portion! The only thing that is a compliant is that it took a while to get our order, and we were one out of maybe four tables. But as I previously stated, the food was fresh and delicious which made it worth the wait. read more
