This place is downright a great asset to the community, however the quality/quantity has recently gone downhill and I'm hoping I can rescind this post asap with their correction. I brought to their attention that, selectively, some bagel batches are not as full as others. Many weeks ago I ordered chocolate chip bagels and they came out the size of half dollars. Today I ordered their upcharged Asiago bagels and, well, compare them to the blueberry ones from the same order. Of course, I should be checking them before leaving the store, so yes this is my fault, however it's the unique flavors and quality that makes me make the drive there, and if the quality lags... Wife had Turkey Club while I had the Big Apple Club. Both sandwiches were solid, right down to the lettuce. Even the accompanying pickles were excellent. Service was impeccable too; sandwiches were prepared a good deal faster than expected. Only reason this was not a 5 is the bagel itself. Pretty sure these weren't actually boiled like bagels are supposed to be. That's ok. Big Apple's competition are places like Einstein's, and Einstein's bagels definitely ain't real bagels. I was in the Grand Blanc area for work and stopped to get breakfast before my meeting. I ordered the Southern Classic with ham. The sandwich is supposed to be meat of your choice, egg and cheese on a bagel of your choice. I also ordered the caramel decadence frozen coffee drink. My drink was ready first and tasted great. My sandwich took a little longer and I was in a rush to get to my meeting. I opened my sandwich in the car and realized there was no meat on it. I was 1/2 way to my meeting so I couldn't turn around. I called the restaurant and they issued a refund because I wouldn't make it back before they closed at 2. I was so disappointed because I was hungry and it smelled delicious. read more

There aren't many take out breakfast eateries in the area to compare to, but I have been to this BAB's on multiple occasions and have always been pleased. One of the biggest perks for me is that they open for business early (6am). Whenever I get off a long night shift, this is one of the only places that is open, other than McDonalds. They have a variety of brewed coffee flavors, specialty drinks, and breakfast sandwiches. I've sampled most of them and have not been disappointed. They also over a turkey sausage alternative which I always opt for and enjoy. They have a variety of lunch sandwiches as well which I haven't made my way through yet, but the couple I've tried have been good. Generally the food is really good but the service is very very slow and the workers are CONSTANTLY just standing around and gossiping the entire time. While I was in there recently the workers got talked to by a woman who saw her food sitting there waiting to be sent out for 15 minutes and instead of apologizing or anything, the workers decided to yell back at her as if anything that they did was her fault. The two girls that were talking have done similar stuff, choosing to talk to each other rather than do what they are paid to do when I have been here previously. I also saw a different worker come out and talk to a group of girls that was here for so long that I honestly didn't even realize she worked here until she told them that she could get their food out faster and let them skip the line. I think that's ridiculous, ESPECIALLY on a Saturday morning when they're busier than usual. Personally I think they should do their job instead of have social time and let people skip the line but that's just me. I came here to pick up some quick food for breakfast on a Friday morning around 9:30. The food was so fast, self service coffee in all kinds of flavors, and half off day old bagels!!!! I ordered two bagel sandwiches, one coffee, a $2.99 bag of day old bagels and a chocolate cheesecake muffin to go. It was a little pricey, almost $19, but so fast and delicious. The food/coffee here are both better than what I can get at fast food, and you don't have to spend as much time as a regular restaurant. We can just get a quick bite and go on driving. Very pleased with Big Apple Bagels. Freshness, size and price all fit very nicely together. Bagel sizes are, in my view, bigger than necessary but in the world of bagels that's cause to return. The variety was excellent. Asiago is a staple and very fine. I had a SWISS melt and the taste (as a fan of Swiss cheese) was devine. Salt, egg, plain, asiago, swiss were in the bag along with plain and veggie cream cheeses for visiting staff members at a golf outing. The place is very popular and is especially busy in the mornings (obviously!), and on weekends with local walking groups gathering here after their walks. A bit pricey though. You pay for quality, I suppose. That's the good news. Here's the not so good news: in my personal experience, the staff is not very friendly (maybe they are friendlier to their 'regular' customers?)....they seem a bit snooty (is it the 'Big Apple' attitude?), and rush you. Working in the area, and there isn't much to choose from when it comes to fast food. We couldn't handle another McDonalds take out, so we opted for some bagels for breakfast...and lunch this passed Sunday. The place was pretty busy...but that's to be expected when there really doesn't seem to be anything else open in the area. The service was fast and friendly, and for what we ordered the cost wasn't too outrageous. The other patrons were friendly as well. A nice couple let me store my stuff at their table so I could free up my hands to gather our softdrinks, then the gentleman walked me to the door so he could open it for my stuffed hands. This is where to find those fresh, chewy, soft, warm bagels that cannot be found at other larger chain places. I love the texture of the bagels here! The taste can use a little boost, but that is an easy fix: add some cream cheese and enjoy with their delicious coffee. My only complaint is the service. :( I am not a regular. This means I do not get the added smiles and shouted greetings as soon as I walk in the door. I don't mind not being remembered. However, I wish they wouldn't shrug my order aside to take care of a regular who got in line after me. I had to remind a staff member of the hot chocolate my boyfriend ordered, after about 10 customers later. At least she was apologetic for forgetting. Anyone else I know who goes there but isn't a regular notices this unequal treatment as well. Also, know that you will get stared down as you take a second to decide on a bagel you want. I'm short and cannot see through people in front of me. Therefore, I would like to take a moment to look over the selection of bagels when I get to the front. By doing this, I get a staredown. I have moved around Michigan quite a bit and therefore have had the opportunity to eat and several different big apple locations. This one is hands down the best! The food they serve is far superior to the others. The staff is friendly and efficient every single time I visit. If a mistake is made which is rare, they quickly fix it and apologize. My Mom and I used to take our 95 year old aunt here on a weekly basis several years ago, they treated her like a queen. She loved going there! The owner, Kathy is possibly the nicest person I have come across in the restaurant industry. She takes the time to find out your name and then uses it every time you come in, no matter how much time passes between visits. She takes pride in her place, which is so very rare these days. I honestly wish I could give this place more than 5 stars. I can't think of another restaurant we go to that even comes close to matching the quality of their food, the consistency of the taste, the cleanliness and above all the service. read more

Even though they close early don't expect to get friendly service if you walk in close to close. They close at 3, even though online says 4, and I walked in 10 to close because the hours online were wrong, and they weren't very welcoming. Otherwise lots of sandwich options and stuff.
