Crossfit Burlingame has been my gym for 7 years. The coaches and athletes I have met through cfbg has changed my entire world, it's not just the strong coaching and training but the relationships and community that is built through working out together is like nothing else. Through the pandemic I have watched the coaches adapt and make training here just as amazing as ever. I feel safe and confident they are doing everything they can to make a safe environment for us to continue to have the outlet of working out during stressful times and continue to have the support from others there. We are all in this together, just on our own gym mats 6 feet apart. I love Crossfit Burlingame!

For all the folks who are surrounded by myths like 'Crossfit is really nasty' or 'I need to get fit to even start CrossFit' or 'Crossfit is for the crazy'- Please keep reading! Life took a toll and I lost control over my regime, health and food intake resulting in excess pounds and a dull lifestyle. I lost hope that I will get into a better shape again and I accepted my ~250 lbs self to be 'me' forever. It was around Christmas of 2016 that I decided to give CrossFit another try as I have had results 5 years ago and I thought may be I could lose a few lbs and feel better. Coming to Crossfit Burlingame and becoming a part of CFBG Family (Yes, that's what we call it :)) exceeded every expectation that I could ever have. The coaches here are wonderful and most importantly approachable. I have always received good advice and positive reinforcement that keeps me going and aiming higher. I remember the time when doing a pull up was a dream and now I live it every day. Thank you coaches- Drew, Frank, Graeme, James, Jess, Rebecca, Sean and every athlete that directly or indirectly motivated me and Christina for the nutritional guidance (Oh yes!! that girl is a magician & soon you'll see transformations resulting from her knowledge and advice on food intake) I see people from every walks of life being a happy part of this family that includes experienced athletes, rookies, seniors and even kids and furry friends(!). The environment here promotes acceptance and support which is key to feel included and benefit from the community. The coaches here are well versed in scaling workouts and movements based on your capacity and don't get me wrong, they'll push you to be better than you were last time around. Ok, a picture is worth a thousand words! - Mudit (currently 188 lbs and counting ;p)

I showed up 5 minutes early and instead of focusing on onboarding or safety, the staff prioritized forcing me to create a marketing account and hand over my email before class. Nobody asked about **my knee pain** or offered workout modifications like Basecamp or Burlingame Fitness did. I was thrown into a dark room mid-class with no idea where my station was, what weights to use, or even how to start(!) the treadmill, while the oversized class made it impossible for the instructor to notice I was struggling. I had to stop multiple times just to change weights and restart. Change and restart. In the end, I lost the class credit and time. The whole experience felt like corporate lead-generation and profit mattered far more at Barry's than the safety and success of new members.

Let me count the ways how much I miss and love Equinox…read more Yes, I know--it's a high-end gym. But you truly get what you pay for. I was a member of this location for over a decade, and since moving to Charlotte, North Carolina, I can honestly say there is nothing quite like it. The nearest one to me now is in Atlanta, and I still miss the San Mateo club regularly. This location has everything you could possibly want in a fitness facility--and then some. The Fitness Floor Downstairs is a beautifully air-conditioned workout space designed for people who are serious about exercising. No distractions, no crowds hovering by the windows--just a clean, focused environment. You'll find: * Full weight training equipment * Recumbent bikes, ellipticals, and treadmills * Dedicated spin, Pilates, TRX, and group fitness studios * A large open stretching area with foam rollers * Cold, filtered water stations throughout * Staff available for spotting if you're training solo It's efficient, professional, and thoughtfully designed. Locker Rooms & Amenities The locker rooms feel more like a boutique hotel than a gym. They are consistently spotless and fully stocked with: * Plush towel service * Spacious showers with teak benches * Steam rooms infused with eucalyptus * Complimentary razors, Q-tips, and personal care items * Premium Kiehl's products It's luxurious, yes--but also incredibly practical. You can comfortably get ready for work, dinner, or travel without feeling rushed. The Rooftop Pool One of the standout features is the heated rooftop pool. It has multiple lap lanes, cabanas, and water aerobics equipment, and it truly feels like a mini country club in the middle of downtown San Mateo. The pool is heated year-round, which means you can swim in any season--something you quickly get spoiled by. They even provide sunscreen from Supergoop!, along with full towel service. It's those little details that make the experience feel elevated. Classes, Spa & Services The class offerings are extensive and easy to manage through the app. Signing in is seamless--just scan your phone and go. Highlights include: * Yoga in a beautiful bamboo studio with HEPA filtration and ceiling fans * Pilates (available as private, duo, or small-group sessions) * A full-service spa on the upper level * A juice bar and retail shop featuring premium fitness apparel Everything feels intentional, polished, and well-maintained. Location & Convenience The club is located right in the heart of downtown San Mateo, making it incredibly walkable. There are restaurants, grocery stores, and cafés nearby, including one of my favorite bakeries and specialty markets. Parking is also surprisingly easy for a downtown location: * Two-hour validation * Surface lot, garage, and rooftop parking options That convenience makes a big difference in daily use. Value & Membership Yes, membership can be expensive. However, many employers offer corporate discounts, which can make the cost more manageable. In my case, the value absolutely justified the price because I used the facility regularly and took advantage of the amenities. Even when I relocated, canceling my membership was straightforward and professional--no pressure, no hassle. Bottom Line Equinox San Mateo set the standard for what a fitness club should be: clean, thoughtfully designed, service-oriented, and genuinely enjoyable to use. If I ever move to another city with an Equinox, I will join again without hesitation. Because at the end of the day-- life is short, and you should live well.

Recently they went above and beyond. I had an injury early last year and couldn't work out. I kept telling myself that I'll be back Equinox next month. After six months I realized it would be a while till I could come back and wished I had put my membership on hold as I had paid dues for about six months and not used the club. I called the club and spoke to Ethan, the manager, and explained I wanted to put my membership on hold till I could come back. He took a look at my account and saw that I hadn't been at the club in six months and, after getting a doctors letter, gave SIX MONTHS CREDIT. I was flabbergasted. Who does nice things like this any more. I started in early January and won't have to pay dues until July. Ethan, Will and all the other staff are amazing as are the members I have met there. 2026 is off to a great start!!!

The staff are…read moreconsistently friendly and welcoming, the crowd is respectful, and the location and hours are very convenient. However, I can't give more than two stars unless management seriously improves equipment maintenance. Several machines have had "Out of Service" stickers on them for at least six months, with no visible progress on repairs. In some cases there are only one or two of those machines in the entire gym, so when one is broken for months, it becomes very inconvenient for members who rely on that equipment. On top of that, some of the existing equipment is clearly aging (frayed cables, worn components, etc.). What makes this more frustrating is that the gym offers a premium membership tier that includes access to the hydro/water massage bed, but that has also been out of service for a long time. Even more concerning, the water fountain and bathroom have both been out of service multiple times. That's a basic facility issue. Members need access to drinking water and restrooms during workouts. Meanwhile, the gym sells bottled water at the counter, which feels especially frustrating when the fountain isn't working. On a few occasions they even had to bring in a porta-potty outside the gym, which says a lot about the state of the building facility. Again, I genuinely want to rate this gym higher because the staff and community are great. If management commits to properly repairing and maintaining the equipment and facilities, I would absolutely be happy to update this review and increase the rating.

I don't know what the health and safety code is for bathrooms in gyms, but I'm pretty sure they are violating it. The bathroom situation is just annoying. As far as the actual gym and equipment, they got all the basics for a decent workout. My biggest complaint is that once a machine is broken, they take months to repair them. There are workout benches that have not been fully operational for 6 months. It's ridiculous. At this point, just buy some new ones... but that's not going to happen. This gym is run by cheapos cutting corners, but I guess that's what I get for $40 a month. Also, as some other reviews have stated, the gym is pretty dusty. They should get a cleanup crew to come in every once in a while and give the gym a deep clean...but they are CHEAPOS!

The front desk was hopping between assisting members and giving us tours. Mind you I arrived 30 minutes early only for one of the front desk girls to get us started THREE minutes before the class was supposed to start. To top it all off they didn't mention what number I was so I went into the class not knowing where to start. In addition, they put me on a rower that didn't have an IPad connected to it so the instructor had to run and grab one. The moment she put it on and connected it my heart rate monitor wasn't connected. It was such a shit show and it wasn't the instructor's fault at all. The instructor actually tried really hard to calm me down and make sure I was setup. She was very nice so no complaints with her. I woke up early for this and literally wasted almost 45 minutes of my day. I literally walked out and gave the heart rate monitor back to the front desk. They could see I was distraught. It was just a complete disappointment and waste of time. There needs to be better training or more staff to help with the peak days and hours. My BIG feedback is to have one front desk person focus on the intro members and the other focus on current members. This whole ordeal made me not want to join Orangetheory at all. He keeps the workouts fun and engaging with music trivia and gives great advice on staying in the right heart rate zones. I honestly hate running, but he somehow makes the time fly by! The front desk team deserves just as much credit. Nicole is so kind, hardworking, and always goes above and beyond.
