We've had dental cleanings in the past at other businesses, and we've always been quoted an estimate near the thousands. However, numerous internet users had praised the affordability and compassion of Prairie Creek Animal Hospital. I called in and they immediately had an appointment the day of, which is unheard of at other vet offices. Upon arrival, we underwent the standard check-in procedure before meeting with the attending vet. However, the vet tech that checked us in lacked warmth and friendliness, which was disappointing. Once we were situated in an exam room, Dr. Poling joined us and evaluated my pups. Dr. Poling's thoroughness and evident passion for his work were immediately apparent from the calmness he was able to instill into my anxious pups. Dr. Poling gave a comprehensive physical examination and uncovered diagnoses that were previously unknown to us. He has a knack for simplifying complex medical info into layman's terms, whether or not you request it. We received an estimate in the hundreds for a dental cleaning, inclusive of blood work, anesthesia, and the procedure itself. Hard to get an appointment because she is always booked. Anyway, my dog, Elle has allergies and needs a cytopoint shot every month or so. Also she needs to have her anal glands express every couple of months. On my last visit yesterday the bill was $173 for both. I noticed how every time I take her in the bill is higher and higher. I know a corporation bought this practice some time ago. This practice was always cheaper when it was preciously owned. I think it is time to find a new vet.

If it wasn't for Dr.Cohen and his dedication to caring for animals I do not think she would be alive today let alone racing. He came weekly for MONTHS, in rain, cold, heat to change her cast and make sure she healed the best she could. Your kindness, patience, and genuine care have meant more to me than I can fully put into words.   Several years ago, I lost my German Shepherd, Cairo, in a way that left a permanent mark on my heart. He became very sick, very fast, and I rushed him to an emergency clinic hoping for help. Instead, he was placed in a holding room alone for 24 hours before anyone ever looked at him. By the time I saw him again, his tongue had turned black, and green bile was coming from his mouth. He passed away in my arms at only two years old.   I was young, devastated, and completely lost. I had to roll my boy up in a rug, sobbing as I carried him back to that same clinic because I didn't know what else to do. They never asked if I was okay. They never expressed sympathy. They only tried to sell me services I couldn't afford. The way they handled his life--and his death--left a hole in my home, in my heart, and even my cat and I fell into a deep depression. It also left me with a deep fear and mistrust of veterinary care.   So when it came time to bring Rogue in, I carried all of that pain and hesitation with me. But then I met all of you.   From the very moment we walked in, your warmth and compassion were obvious. You were gentle, attentive, and you treated Rogue like the precious soul she is. From the front desk staff to the doctor sitting on the floor--covered in Cheese Whiz, no less--you showed us what real veterinary care is supposed to look like. You made us feel safe. You made us feel seen. And you gave me something I wasn't sure I would ever get back: trust.   Thank you, truly, for restoring my faith in the profession and for treating my Rogue with the love and dignity every animal deserves. We called multiple days in a row for an estimation for our dogs vet visit, eventually they replied…read morewith 86$ for the exam. Which would be absolutely fine if I hadn't specifically asked for anti-anxiety medications for my dog. When she arrived at the vet today the total cost for the visit had jumped to an estimated 304$, for included blood tests on top of the exam. I absolutely understand this is necessary, but when I called to ask why that was not part of the estimation the reply was "Not all anxiety medication requires blood testing." I don't understand how a veterinarian could hear that a dog has anxiety issues, and not have any idea that she's going to need testing for said issue, especially after multiple days of calling in to check. Tying it all off with a wonderful bow, by the time I had someone willing to help and didn't see fit to answer all my questions rudely. My partner had already been forced to pay the cancellation fee and barred from returning as well as one of the employees going out of her way to call my character into question. TLDR: I absolutely 1000% understand not all anxiety meds require bloods testing, I also understand that none of them were ruled out ahead of time so it should've been in the estimation. When I called to ask why it hadn't been included the First Lady was very rude, by the time I had someone else on the phone explaining we were banned.

These folks could not have been more caring and compassionate at every step. They were responsive and scheduled an appointment around our needs. They care and it shows. When she arrived, my baby had a rush of energy and wanted to play outside in the grass. She assured me that it was okay to take our time and let her enjoy outside one last time. We sat and she listened to my stories about her life, and when she wanted to go inside, we went in and she was given the sedative. She was so peaceful and laid in her bed. Then, she passed while the doctor and I talked about her life and how wonderful she was. It was the hardest day of my life, but the easiest day of my sweet baby Gracie's. It was worth every penny. I have never seen such a peaceful ending. There are not words big enough to communicate my gratitude. The end of her life was so sacred, which is more than most of us people get. This has helped my grieving process immensely. I know for certain this was the best ending that could have been for my sweet angel. Thank you so much.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE Elgin Family Pet center just as much as we loved Elgin Vet Hospital. We have seen many Doctors come and go and always have had top notch care. We have seen Dr. Thevis, Dr. Sirmons, and most recently Dr. Branndon. All are very sweet, caring, knowledgeable, and have never tried to push anything on us. Have the prices gone up over the years? Yes, but what has not gone up? Most recently we had our senior dog hurt his back and have to stay at the hospital for several day. When we got the bill it was very reasonable for a hospital stay. The staff is amazing and always has been! We love Veronica, Sarah, Mallory, Fran, and Jenette. They always are happy to see us walk in the door and my dogs love getting love from all of them.

I am pissed when I picked up Buckeye up they told me they had started and that it was a small area okay fine whatever I did not realize how big it was until I actually got Buckeye home. How the hell do you not notice a penis and balls and assume it's a spay! I called and even came in in person to talk with them about getting a discount for their next visit or at least a credit or something and was denied and told no because the hair will grow back. So every dog that goes in there should expect to get a haircut and shaved incorrectly because no one can tell what the differences between a neutering and a spay is Husky hair takes longer to grow back and if shaved incorrectly might not grow back the right way. I know it's just hair and that it'll grow back but I did not pay for him to get inaccurately shaved for a procedure that doesn't even apply to him. I didn't even get an apology from the person or a phone call letting me know what they had done. I do not recommend this place where
