I love this place. It always has a great selection of everything! And the prices are always really good. I also do trade in my clothes here. I get the best deal here out of all the consignment places I've been to. You get 30% of what they would sell it for in cash or 50% in store credit. I always opt for store credit because while I wait I end up finding new clothing. The people that work there are really friendly and are helpful. I've never had an issue with anyone. I'm a good will / salvation army kind of girl but I'll come to nicer boutique thrift stores once in awhile. Usually to sell... that turns to buying. To sell: TLDR: impossible just kidding, but make sure your items are in season, on trend, good condition, and not already sold at the location. I barely sold anything and I was given the reason that they have the same brands with similar items already. Understandable! They have to make sure there is turnover so I try not to take it personally To buy: Compared to other locations I've been to, this store actually has GREAT items I would consider buying. The pieces tend to be unique and trendy too. They're priced pretty decently too but it's always better if you have credit after selling some of your old stuff. If you're looking to sell some items and want to maximize the profits (aka taking the credit versus cash), you're more likely to find something cute at this location. read more

Hit or miss. My biggest problem with this location is their buying skills. They sell way too much Merona (Target) which I strongly disagree with because Target gives a lot of brand new unsold merchandise to local Goodwills, so why buy it used and overpriced at Crossroads? I also saw a F21 shirt for $15 the last time I was there, really? They turned down a pair of classic black silk Kate Spade stilettos I was selling (worn only once) because they said the sole was peeling up where the slingback meets the sole...that's what ALL slingbacks look like, they were only worn once (meanwhile, they're selling several pairs of mange-y urban outfitters shoes and worn-out 80s granny sandals). I ended up selling my slingbacks on Ebay for $60 thank you very much. Also, be prepared to wait a very long time for everything here: I once waited an hour and a half to sell, I waited 10 minutes for a dressing room, and I typically wait 5 minutes at the checkout. I have found great items here and I do appreciate their large men's section, but style-wise it's about 10 years behind the Wicker Park location, I typically go there instead. read more

A-okay. Sold numerous clothes here, bought a few items as well. You will find a few quality items, but you just have to dig. The wait is usually about 15-30 minutes for them to look at your clothes, super long on weekends. The items they don't take they tell you why, which is cool. But, sometimes they're too long winded. I'm like either you want the clothes or you don't doggie. Be sure to look close at the clothing you buy, because one time I traded for two sweaters and when I got home I could tell both of the sweaters were sewn back together where they had torn. But overall I can't complain, it is a consignment/trading store. read more

I used to like going here for some good selections, along with how they would donate any clothes you tried to sell which they rejected to Brown Elephant. Last time I went, however, I can see that things have gone down. Most of what I brought in to sell were rejected due to seasonal reasons (understandable) or they just didn't want them. However, when I looked around, there are a good amount of items which I wouldn't exactly call good hand-me-downs - frayed, pilling fabric, etc. And some of what I had were still in good quality. No longer will they donate either - I was snottily told to just take my rejections to the donation box at the parking lot in the mall. Good thing I knew what the clerk was talking about, because I figured that it's the Green City Project box at the parking garage, not a parking lot. If I was unfamiliar, she was of no help. I felt very dismissed. I won't be missing much by not shopping or attempting to sell there ever again. read more

I've been here a bunch, and every time it's the same. The staff is rude and unwelcoming. They talk to each other the entire time they sort through my clothes, so it seems like not much attention is paid to the quality of clothing and shoes I bring in. They once passed up nine west shoes that were in perfectly fine shape. My biggest pet peeve, though, is that they don't donate the leftover clothes to a good will or salvation army. When I asked the sales lady where I should drop my clothes, she told me to bring them to a thrift store that turned out to be closed. I can get so many pairs of pants, all Banana, all the size and style I want - oh and it's half off that ridiculously low price that's already on the tag? Umm...sold!! And doesn't look worn! I have lost 50lbs over the past almost 2 years, so this place has been a God-send. It was good to get rid of items that were too big for me, and trade them for things that fit, while I was dropping sizes. They didn't take any of my plus sized items, but lately they have been taking most of the stuff that I bring in. I went in yesterday, and they took about half of my items, and the girl seemed really excited about what I had brought in. I traded them for a cute pair of 7 for all man kind cords, (that looked brand new) and a cute little vintage shift dress that looked hand made. Great deals can be found here--really no reason not to search for a buried treasure in the racks--you might find a spittin' cousin of something four times as expensive at Untitled next door. I have walked by this storefront a million times en route to the Nine West outlet, and have never noticed it. Today, I regret each of those million misses. Crossroads is fantastic! Their buyers are very particular, resulting in a great selection of high end clothes. Rock and Republic jeans for $12.50, a Hazel bolero jacket for $17.50, a Sisley sweater dress for $13.50...last week they had a Diane Von Furstenberg black wrap dress for $37.50 (size 10, tags still attached!), but don't bother going back for it because I bought it. Along with a super cute DVF tshirt that I snagged for $6. Then again, if you're a seller...their buyers are very particular. They only buy in-season, so when I brought in two huge bags of clothes, they only opted for a fleece vest and a white coat. They did not go for the pair of Ann Taylor black leather pants. (That surprised me.) I suppose though, picky buyers make for great inventory. The shoe and purse selection isn't that great. But if you go, definitely don't forget to look through the staff picks rack in the front, and at the items that hung as wall displays. read more

I was hoping that Crossroads was going to blow Plato's out of the water. Well my water is as still as a untouched jello. I was overwhelmed when attempting to shop for a new dress and little odds and ends. Nothing was in order. I would find a top and sigh that it wasn't my size. I generally go into a store and directly to the size I need but if there isn't order I'm like a lost duck. I didn't feel the the customer service was up to par. I didn't check out the women's section as my husband and I were shopping for him - but the men's side gets 4 stars! He - like me - goes through clothes quickly, so I'm trying to introduce him to some more options outside H&M. The men's section is MUCH smaller than the women's but still offers a decent selection. I found at least 12 items for him to try on and we ended up walking out with two fab men's dress shirts, and a polo - all for less than $25. The two salesgirls were super sweet and even suggested some items I didn't see during my first run through. They have a few new trendier items that are on the expensive side, but it was mostly men's clothing staples (basic button down shirts, pants, t-shirts). I had much more luck with men's clothes here for my husband then I have at both TJ Maxx and Marshall's - we'll be heading back soon. read more

This is my favorite place to shop on a budget. The prices and styles are so awesome that sometimes I will buy things even if they're slightly too small/big just because the prices are amazing. You can find nice trendy shirts for $7 and fashionable heels for $12. BARGAIN! However, not the best place if you're looking for pants. At least not for me anyway as I have trouble finding smaller sizes. Staff is super friendly and helpful. I have yet to sell any clothes to this place so that's another story. read more

As a shopper: This place has a great selection of clothes and accessories. They also have a fair amount of high-end designer items. If you want a pair of gently-loved Gucci heels, they have them! As a seller: My experience was pretty terrible. The staff is completely rude. (V P. addresses this in a review as well) They talk about their customers - in front of their customers - making mean and unnecessary comments. How anyone can think this is ok is something I don't get. The wait is longer than they say, but I could deal with it if the people who worked there weren't such jerks. I think management needs to do some housecleaning. If you're looking to consign clothing, try Plato's Closet - they're faster and a decent bunch of people that won't make you want to barf with their judgmental attitudes. I recently moved to a smaller space and needed to consolidate my closet. I did my research and knew that I didn't want to go Plato's closet. I decided to stop into Buffalo Exchange and then Crossroads Trading Co. since the two locations are very near to each other. I found that Crossroads offers the same options for selling/trading your used clothing as Buffalo Exchange. They each offer two options: 1. 50 percent of the selling price in store credit 2. 35 percent of the selling price in cash The customer service here was pretty good. I was greeted by a friendly employee at the counter who explained the who selling/trading process to me enthusiastically. She offered to look through the bag of clothing I brought while I looked around. This is where I became a bit overwhelmed. I wasn't sure how the clothing was organized and didn't have the time to go hunting and digging. I did spot an item here and there that I liked, but nothing in my size. I might have helped if they had someone else on the floor to assist while the cashier is busy. In the end I was able to sell three items here that I was unable to sell at Buffalo Exchange and I went with the cash option. read more

I'm a fan of this place because of the great selection each time I go in here. I really like that they have some new items, but the rest of the "used" clothes are super organized and easy to make a b-line to the color you are looking for or the style. I've scored some cute tops and sweaters, nice purse selection and overall the staff have been friendly. I've noticed though that the prices on the "recycled" clothes have gone up...come on...$12 for a plain tee? You have to be joking. I'm not sure who all these shoe size 6 women are that are hawking off your designers, but man, am I pissed I'm not a size 6 when I go in here. I've sold stuff here and I kind of think it's a tad of a ripoff, some things they really low ball you, but at the same time if you've made the trek to get rid of stuff - it's not like you want to take it back home. I'm sorry but they rarely have what I'm looking for when I want something specific. I see some stuff that might look cute but then they only have really large sizes lame either that or the clothes have rips, stains, etc To top it all off when you attempt to take clothes in for trade they act all snobby and refuse the clothes saying it's not in season or that they are only taking in upcoming clothes for the season, etc. I have taken name brands American Apparel, Armani, Kenneth Cole, and even some rare vintage but No they won't take it... I have been to this location many times over the past 7 years while visiting friends in Chicago. This has always been my favorite location, because of the size and selection. Yes, it is a resale shop so it will take some time and patience to find hidden gems. Some clothes that they sell are not great, with stains and pilling. You have to make sure you look over EVERY item and double check it to make sure it's in good condition before you buy. The prices are a bit steeper than resale shops where I live(Michigan), but then again it is Chicago so everything will be more expensive. I have found some great deals here. More recently I found a brand new tags attached Topshop jacket for $18 and it's original price was $90. I also purchased a silk Rag&Bone shirt dress for $21. Its original tag was $42, which I would have never paid, but it was half off. I also got a Aritzia brand basic tee for $18 which was ridiculous considering it was a used basic white t shirt, but I loved the fit so I gave in and bought it. While browsing I saw tons of Rebecca Minkoff bags, which must be popular items in resale now. They had a cute wallet for $18 but it looked like the hardware was fading. They sell some designer but personally I am usually careful with this sort of stuff because you never know if it's real or not, plus prices are still very steep. If I lived in Chicago I would definitely just buy clothes here and then trade them back in when done, it seems like a good system! If you have time and patience you can definitely find some great deals. read more

One thing you cannot find in Chicago is a good thrift store. This is an okay compromise. It's a good deal more expensive than a traditional thrift store but at least the clothes are relatively desirable. There's a lot of stuff in here and it can be overwhelming so I suggest venturing in here only when you have a basic idea of what you want, then you can ease your shopping experience through elimination. Don't expect to get rich trading in your old clothes but if you were going to get rid of them anyway you might as well make a buck off of it. read more

Love this place!! As a thrifty shopper, I like a great bargain. This place is full of them! Of course, as with any resale shop, you have to be ready to dig through a lot of clothes to find what you are looking for, but in my experience, this place always delivers. Great brands, and a good layout - even though there is a lot of clothes around, I don't feel as claustrophobic as I do in some other shops of this sort... Like all resale shops, it's hit or miss. But i have gotten a few cute things here and never paid more than $10 an item. I've also gotten some good condition Jcrew, Banana Republic and Express work pants for cheap. Every once in a while they do have some nice designer stuff which is a bit more pricey but still less than new. Selling is the same, and I never know what they are going to take and what they aren't. It all depends on the person buying. Last time I was there a guy sold 3 pairs of $400 shoes and got about $200 in trade money. The girl he was selling to was giong to give him a fraction of that but another girl came over and said "That's too low - they sell these shoes in Barney's. Remember, that's the store I told you about?" So if you get someone clueless, it may be worth it to just come back another time. I also heard if you are asking for more than $75 for your item, they will sell it on consignment. read more

This is a great place to trade/sell/buy clothes. I was able to sell a 2 tops and a pair of pants and receive about $19 in trade. I've been able to get work pants for under $10 since they have 50% off sales!!!! Brands I've found: gap, express, H&M, diesel jeans and more. I've helped my bf do a ton of shopping here as well, guys shirts range from $8~$15. They also have a big focus on name brand designers, which can be harder to find, but definitely worth it if you hit it at the right time. Like what's in the window? Used and kinda stretched out tees shouldn't have to go for $9.00 and UP! I saw several polos, tees, and other tops from Target that were only about $2.00 less than at Target. Please give me a break. The salesgirl, when I asked about what type of clothes they were looking to buy now, sized me up and said real snotty-like 'fashiionable items'. I have bought from, sold to, and traded with Crossroads, and each transaction went smoothly. I live right down the street from Crossroads, so I love to browse around the shop on the evenings and weekends. I feel the amounts they've paid me for the clothes I've sold were fair; here's how it works: They price your clothes as soon as you walk in (I've never waited more than 10 minutes). Then they tell you what they can sell, and they give you either cash or store credit for your items (if you take the cash, you get 35% of the price for which they will sell the clothes, if you take store credit, or "trade", you get 50%). I have seen Crossroads carry some upscale designer items, some J Crew-type items, lots of H &M-type stuff, and a bunch of miscellaneous stuff. They have a great mens' section, too. It's definitely worth a browse- I've found a few gems there. Or, if you need to clean out your closet, head to Crossroads for some quick cash! I'm taking one star away for the rude girl I dealt with during my last visit. Most of the Crossroads staff are super friendly and helpful, but this girl was blatantly mean and snooty to me while pricing my clothes. No need for that. read more

I would give this place zero stars if I could. I went in around 4pm during the middle of the week, with a bag full of clothes to sell. I wasn't so much greeted by the staff as I was told that if I wanted to sell anything it would be at close to an hour wait. Wanting to be a respectful customer, I said that was no problem, and asked if I was allowed to leave and come back? I was rudely told, "if you feel like leaving then you'll have to take all your clothing with you." Mind you, I had a huge bag full of clothes to sell, and wandering the streets with a 20 pound bag of clothes for an hour didn't sound ideal. Ok.. again not wanting to be an obnoxious customer, I agreed to stay in the store and said I would just walk around and shop while I waited. A full hour and a half later, I heard my name shouted, or more or less scream through the store. I sprint walked to the counter, and said, "hi, yes you called my name." Before this sales associate even opened her mouth, the look on her face said it all, something about me must have clearly disgusted her. Once she opened her mouth it got worse, "Did you want to sell something or not...? Are you selling something or not?" She used the same tone that my 7th grade teacher would use when lecturing me about late homework. Again, not wanting to be an entitled customer, I said, "Yes, hi, I've sold her before, here is my bag of clothes and my drivers license that you need." Thinking my competency would help smooth things over with this very angry sales associate, she simply responded back, "Ok, I'll call you when I'm done going through your clothes." Finally, I had spent over an hour and half in this store, been pretty much verbally assaulted by some very unhappy staff members but at least I would walk out with some money for my items. Or so I thought. About 45 seconds later, this sales associate claimed to have gone through ALL of my items and she could take nothing. I was shocked. She said my clothes were out of season and too badly worn. Now, she didn't know that this wasn't my first time selling my clothes. I already went through all my items and meticiously weeded out anything that was out of season, not name brand, or too well worn. In my bad I had designer clothing items that included: Tory Burch, Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Rebecca Minkoff and items from name brand store like J.Crew, Banana Republic, Vince, all bought within the past 6 months..... Interesting that a used clothing store that selling used items from Zara sincerely couldn't take any of my stuff. Don't waste your time here, the staff must either be over worked or underpaid, because the message is clear, "you the customer are a bother and they don't want you in the store, and what they will or will not take from you has nothing to do with the quality of their items but more to do with the mood of the associate going through your items. read more

I'll start off with shopping here. It's awesome! I always find something when I go here and it is cheap. I highly recommend going here and at least checking it out. As for selling, I did not know the rules the first time I went here and from some other reviews, it looks like other people did not as well. I cleaned out my entire closet and they only took a couple of things. BUT this is because they do not accept old and worn items and they accept items seasonally (for example, they are taking spring items now). Also, if I go back to the shopping. This makes sense since a lot of the stuff is really nice! I was obviously disappointed they didn't take more but the staff was very friendly, explained why most of the items were not accepted, and explained the seasonal policy.
