I have sold clothes here a few times and have never had a good experience with their employees. They are rude on the phone and in person. Someone needs to train them up on the appropriate way to treat customers ASAP. When I first moved into my neighborhood...I stopped at this shop cuz I thought it had a cool name...well, I've been coming here since and rummaging through the garage sale to find some really cool gems. I really do like the stuff they have here. I've gotten some kick a** jean jackets, tees and pants here. ONCE, I tried trading my stuff in for cash. You know give a little, take a little. But somehow my stuff wasn't good enough and I took my stuff to the salvation army and/or the brown elephant and called it a day. Crossroads is great if you love Chicago designer clothing - I've seen amazing selections of AKIRA brands here! The store is pretty big and have a great selection of office-wear basic tops, and cardigans! I haven't found any sundresses that wowed me here, but their accessories + bags selection are great =) Seller's Perspective: * I've sold clothing twice so far. Both times, the buyers were super nice and really friendly, went through my bag of clothing meticulously and actually explained why certain clothes were accepted v.s. rejected. I love clothes way too much, so much so that I have way more than needed. With spring slowly underway, I decided to clear some space for new goodies. I took 14 garments in, some that I deemed questionable myself, but figured I would try anyhow. They took half of them and I got just a little under $20. Not a whole lot of money but definitely more than I would have had had I just let them sit in my closet. They only take in season merchandise. While waiting for them to decide what they would take of my stuff, I browsed the merchandise. There were only a few things that I would even consider, but quite frankly some of it was priced for more than I would have thought. Some of their Forever 21 items are easily only a few dollars less than what they normally would be. I think the only items I would really consider are those that are an extra half off. Staff was friendly enough but nobody really went out of their way. If you're not the sort to rummage, this probably isn't your kind of store. read more

Not sure where these "buyers" get their experience from but it's super hit or miss. I've brought plenty of good items here to sell and they have turned my stuff away plenty of times. Some will tell you that your stuff is over more than 2 years old when you bought it 4 months ago. Don't get your hopes up! They also say they only take name brands but I've seen plenty of forever21 and non brands out there on their racks. Brought a $108 Marine Layer hoodie in great condition and they offered $7 for it. Really need better training for their employees. Or maybe hire people with actual "clothing merchandise" experience. Many a lunch break has been spent browsing the racks at Crossroads. I always find something to buy, most times a little too much. When I need something specific for an event I try here before the chain stores nearby simply because for the $50 I could spend at Akira on one crappy shirt, I can get four pieces here. All of the clothes are in great shape and many things still have the tags on. Everything is organized well by type and color. They have a nice range of sizes including shoes - I have huge feet and have found a couple of GREAT pairs of leather shoes here for next to nothing. And as if it's not already cheap enough, once something is out of season (weather, not style) it goes on sale for another 50-75% off (!). I would recommend this place over Plato's Closet if you are looking to sell the results of a closet purge--so long as you are a reasonably fashionable and hip dresser, they'll give you a great price for things, and the option of either cash/check or trade (the trade for store credit gets you a higher percentage of the merchandise value.) I've also found some really great items here. Like any used/thrift shopping experience, it requires trial and error and lots of smart browsing, but I have found their combination of prices and selection to be much better than most. read more

The racks are full of good deals on cute clothes, there are always several pairs of shoes, as well as purses that I covet and all 3 times I was there I ended up buying something designer that was in excellent condition for CHEAP! This place is getting four stars for the guys clothing. I think my guy spent about a $70 in here and walked away with tons. I walked away with a $3 blondie shirt and was dissapointed. Not cheap, but affordable. Forever 21 prices with the occasional Versace brand name. There store on Melrose in L.A. is a billion times better, but I've never seen a better men's department with so many cool pants/shirts/belts. read more

I'm a fan of this place because of the great selection each time I go in here. I really like that they have some new items, but the rest of the used clothes are super organized and easy to make a b-line to the color you are looking for or the style. I've scored some cute tops and sweaters, nice purse selection and overall the staff have been friendly. I've noticed though that the prices on the recycled clothes have gone upcome on$12 for a plain tee? You have to be joking. I'm not sure who all these shoe size 6 women are that are hawking off your designers, but man, am I pissed I'm not a size 6 when I go in here. I've sold stuff here and I kind of think it's a tad of a ripoff, some things they really low ball you, but at the same time if you've made the trek to get rid of stuff - it's not like you want to take it back home. When I could fit into Custo Barcelona stuff a few years ago, I got all of my shirts at the Lincoln Park store. I can't even describe how terrible the customer service was here. I went to sell clothes (of which most were great quality from likable stores) and got $7 back. The people working there were painfully slow and having side conversations the entire time. Tasha and Jas were working at the time and could not have cared less about wasting anyone's time. They would look at one piece of clothing then leave and talk to each other. I will never go back to this store. The $7 didn't even cover the parking I paid to go here. Embarrassing. read more

If you put in the time and have an eye for it, this place is AMAZING! I can never find shoes in my size (11, yikes) but I went in with a size 7 friend and gave her an entire wardrobe an overhaul with 2 classy coats and a pair of sexy gently-worn suede boots. All for around $40 total. I wouldn't advise going in thinking "I need to find a navy cardigan in a size 4"- this place is much more enjoyable if you go in with your eyes pealed for gems. Don't waste your time trying to resale your items here. I bring them my clothes and some of them were even brand new and they said none of them were resalable and give me nothing back. I'll be better off donating the clothes and at least that will be tax deductible. They donate it on my behalf and didn't even give me a donation slip. I feel like they just stole my stuff. This place is very well organized, clean, and it is easy to look through the clothes and have a sense of order when you're going through the store. The staff are friendly and there are cubbies to keep your large bags while you're shopping. Unfortunately, the prices are fairly steep for this store. They're similar to 30% off Forever21/H&M sales... though the clothes are not new. Nevertheless, there are some half off items that are cute and the quality of the clothes are pretty high, which may justify the higher prices of these clothes. read more

Trading and selling to them is a great way to be able to exchange great pieces of wardrobe for another. I always discover great boots at this location! It's a really good resale shop. If you sell the store some items, you, of course, won't get a lot of money for it, but you will get something, which is far better than giving it to a consignment shop that basically steals by claiming they sold it after the deadline for you getting a commission. I have lived in Chicago many years and this is the only resale store I would consider buying clothing from. And the only consignment store I would go to is Sophie's in Edgewater. Both of these stores are worth visiting periodically. The clothing is clean and often not worn, and both stores operate ethically. I have sold clothing to both. Without mentioning the name, there is a consignment store about 4 blocks north of Crossroads that I would NEVER give clothing to again. read more

So I've walked by this place at least 10 times, never having the time to go in and look around. Last night, I finally decided to go in. This place is much better than I thought they would be! Excellent selection of clothes, jackets and shoes! They cater to a wide variety - men, women, smaller sizes, larger sizes, etc. I love how they carry so many name brands there (eg. J Crew, Banana Republic, Calvin Klein) for such inexpensive prices. I found a J Crew Sweater there for under $20. Are you kidding me?! That's amazing! Their shoe selection is fabulous as well. I found so many boots and heels that I absolutely adored. They do have fitting rooms as well, which is a plus. The staff is pretty friendly for the most part. They do 24 hour holds as well. I was about to purchase a bunch of clothing items and shoes, but then I asked if they could hold them til the next day, so I can see if I can bring my own clothes in for a trade. They agreed and held my items for me. Not many shops do that! The cons: Shoes and clothes are not organized by size, which makes shopping a bit more difficult and time consuming. The clothes are organized by style and then by color. So there are racks with just sweaters - browns, grays, blacks, etc. Then there are racks with just jackets/coats by color as well. I really would like to see the shoes organized by size. I spent 45 minutes looking and trying on shoes and didn't even make it halfway through all the shoes in the store! It would make things easier to have them even loosely organized. Also, they close at 8:00 on Fridays. I really wish they would have stayed open til 9. There were still quite a few people in the store at around 7:45-8:00pm. They may want to consider extending their hours. However, all of this is pretty minor compared to the great items they have at great prices. I just know now to arrive earlier in order to allow myself more time to browse/shop when I go. read more

Went to the location in Evanston earlier the same day and what I found and how I was treated was 100x better than this bitchy, snotty, stinky location that had worse items than a grandmothers moth-ridden closet. Beware if you are a man size 36 or up you will not find anything here or be able to sell any items. A week ago I brought bags full of almost new clothes. The lady went through every item and questioning whether not they could take these item. I noticed she kept looking at the pants and waist line. After 5 minutes she kindly tells me that she can't take anything, really???? Their was nothing wrong with them. I also noticed through the store I had a hard time finding any sizes that weren't a 34 or below. Crossroad has a certain image and if your not 34 or under you are wasting your time shopping or selling. Prices as well almost match that of H&M and Old Navy so why not get something no one ever wore for that price. Overall I will not go back. read more

I have such mixed emotions about this place. They've given me a lot of money when I sell my clothes...and they do have a lot of nice jeans for suuuuuper cheap. I can't imagine being able to buy a pair of almost new citizens anywhere else for $50. But I kind of hate the place cuz it's like a thrift store without any of the excitement or fun of thrifting! Why do they get to decide what's fashionable and cool? Also...why do they not distinguish between real brands and stuff from forever 21? As far as second hand stores go, I really appreciate the quality of the clothes chosen at Crossroads. Different than some of the other second hand "trendy" stores, you can trust that Crossroads has clothes that are in good shape. The clothes are great for people looking for a cheaper option for buying clothes for work, an outfit for going out, designer apparel at a steal of a price, or even designer denim. The staff are friendly and helpful. My only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that sometimes it can be a little hit or miss finding things. The clothes are only organized by size and general item (Ex: Small dresses, Medium dresses, etc), so if you're looking for something-- such as a cocktail dress vs. a more casual dress, your only option is just to look through everything on the racks. read more

First time I went in, I didn't find anything, but the second time was more productive and I got a sweater and a couple shirts that I really dug. They do have a good mixture of trendy and staple clothes, and it's all in generally good condition. However the girl that was there was really surly and unhelpful. I don't understand the way they have their clothes organized. By color? It's a giant block of fabric. Way too overwhelming, clothes are stuffed into racks on that back wall. The only time I've found something worthwhile there, it was tacked up on the wall. A lovely Nannette Lepore dress (at LEAST 4 years old) for $30 dollars. A little steep if you ask me for a four year old dress, but the material was partially cashmere. I've never sold there, I probably never will, but my advice as a shopper is to check out Buffalo Exchange instead. This is my favorite of all of their locations, however I still visit their other locations from time to time. I find that they have a better selection of clothing that fits my style and size. Lots of newer items that are gently worn, some still have the tags on them! All for less than half of the original price! I also find that this location has more high end name brands as well. I got a pair of Tory Burch ballet flats for $30! A BCBG long dressy wool coat for $40! and the list goes on! The associates are always pleasant and helpful as well. Not to mention they offer you cash or store credit for your gently worn clothes that you no longer want or wear! I love this place! Geez, I'm from los angeles and I thought the stores there were bad. I took beautiful items appropriate for the selling season that were in great condition AND classic in style. They told me it would be a wait and that they would hold my items until my turn came. I walked around the store for 5 minutes before I caught the sales girl going through my bag of items without my consent and making a mess! I asked what are you doing? I literally caught her trying to cover up the fact that she had torn the button of my coat! The second sales girl/buyer came over and resumed the position of pilfering my items when, sure as chicago stinks in the summer, she said "this item is damaged" !! They offered me nothing for the rest of my items. Naturally I took my things and left the store in disbelief. No wonder there isn't anything but FUGLY krap in this place. read more

First of all, this is a used clothes store. With that, they carry many name brand clothes for cheap (pre worn of course). The first thing I noticed was the odor of the store. I'd advise anyone who purchased clothes from here to throughly wash their clothes before wear. I have yet to sell my old clothes here... I plan on making a trip one day to do that. I came here after a bad experience trying to sell some clothes at the N. Milwaukee location, despite the fact that, when I first poked around this location, the lady working the desk seemed super rude. When I arrived, the rude lady wasn't there and all the people manning the desk and handling the buying were super friendly. The wait was long (when I arrived, I was 11th in line!) but they do their best with handling all the people looking to sell. There's an iPad where you can put your name or phone number so that they can let you know when it's your turn (even if you leave the store to do other stuff), with a deli-like numbered list to check how many people are in front of you. After a bad experience at their other location where the girl didn't take any of my stuff, the nice lady helping me here took 13 of my 20ish items and I got about $70 in cash. A pretty good experience for instant selling. In terms of their items for sale, it's very hit or miss. I have bought a Moschino shell tank with jumbo-sequins for $30ish previously, and a cute, blue, mod-floral patterned jumpsuit from them for about $13. This time around I saw nothing I liked, but it totally depends on what people bring in. They did have some nice jean styles for cheap, and a fabulous pair of heeled Dolce and Gabbana ankle boots for under $200. This location is worth popping in and doing a run-through of the aisles for 10 minutes on the chance there is something special hiding there that someone hasn't snapped up yet. read more

I was extremely turned off by this place when I brought my clothes in and one of the bigger girls put my clothes aside and immediately helped the person behind me. The person offered to go after and when i was sitting on the bench she said I will go through theirs first because it definitely looks more promising then the other. This is no way to run a business I was a frequent shopper at this location but i was forever turned off by this employee. There was only one employee that actually looked alive in this atmosphere, if they dont want to be there i dont want to either. DONT GO. Waste of time and confidence. read more

Probably one of the better secondhand stores in the city - they're very selective on what they purchase and resell. Make sure that you contact them before you drop off your stuff to make sure that you're bringing in the right items.
