My favorite tasting room/winery on the North Fork. This small, family owned and run winery makes you feel like you are at a small family winery in Provence. They do one thing and do it to perfection: Rose. They have a number of different varietals, including sparkling. With flight tastings, you can learn more here about the subtle differences in French style rose than at any fancy tasting event in NYC. And with Fair, value, excellent but not expensive pricing, how can you go wrong at this rustic outdoor courtyard tasting venue? Finally, and perhaps most appealing, they do not allow limos or bus groups, so you are surrounded by like-minded people here for the wine and the ambiance, not for a Saturday drunk fest. Just make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to sit, sip, relax and enjoy. read more

Beautiful setup, with a back patio surrounded by old barns, and shaded by trees. This vineyard has an absolutely gorgeous back seating area behind an unassuming front building. They only make rosé which was fine with me; I don't normally drink rosé so I don't know anything about it. No hired cars or groups larger than 8 allowed. Priced the same as another vineyard we went to, $17 for a tasting selection of 6 very different wines. I picked up a bottle that was made with wild yeast, resulting in some very unique wine. Definitely would recommend to a friend, one star docked because the server really wasn't very good, unfriendly and uninterested ( unlike a couple other places we went) read more

My friends and I stumbled upon Croteaux Vineyards via the Interwebs; we only had time to check out one vineyard before leaving LI and we were drawn to this one because of it's strict "no large parties, no limos, no vans" policy. If you're a group larger than 8 people don't bother (they won't let you in) but for a small crew, this place is fantastic (and really, who wants to be surrounded by large, boisterous parties? No thanks). The outdoor tasting garden is gorgeous, the wines are delicious, and the prices are completely reasonable. I left with two bottles and a plan to return. read more

What a gem! Wonderful staff, delicious wine. Small intimate setting! The second we walked through the door we were welcomed by the sweetest woman (I am guessing the owner)! The best part of visiting this gorgeous vineyard is that it is not set up for large tastings, tours, etc! It is the perfect place for an intimate day/night with friends and family. A gorgeous winery with wonderful rose wines. Walking into the back courtyard, I felt like I had crossed the pond and suddenly entered Provence, France. My trip with a friend made for a great afternoon, sipping various rose wines on a mild afternoon. Croteaux Vineyards has carved out a nice little niche for itself by specializing in pink rose wines. The winery sells more than a half-dozen varieties, each one slightly different from the next. I really have no quibbles. Bravo! read more

After coming to this winery last summer, I was excited to suggest this winery to a group of us coming out this weekend. Wanting to be safe winery patrons, we decided to have a taxi drop off/pickup our group at the various wineries for the day. Upon arrival, the owner ran out to our vehicle screaming that we weren't allowed to enter. We tried to explain that we weren't in a party bus but merely a taxi and she wouldn't have it. How inappropriate for a business owner to turn away 7 paying patrons? How inappropriate for a business owner to turn away people who refuse to drink and drive? Terrible business practices, terrible ownership, terrible experience. We will never come back to this winery and will let everyone know about our experience. There are so many other great wineries in the area. Don't waste your time here and keep driving. read more

I have nothing but terrible things to say about this winery. A group of 8 girls and I did the smart thing and rented a limo for the day to tour the wineries, to avoid drinking and driving, not having known that this particular winery had a "no limo" drop off policy, we arrived here, sober. The owner came sprinting to the limo and screamed at our driver that there were absolutely no limo drop offs, and that he could go to the end of the street to drop us off. Doing exactly that our limo driver dropped us half a mile down the road, and we walked to the winery. The owner then screamed at all 8 of us that he does not allow "drunk idiots" on the property and he knows our limo dropped us off down the road.. which he told our driver to do. He verbally attacked us as well as brought up the terrible and tragic death of the girls who passed in an accident by the wineries just weeks prior saying that we were "dumb" and were asking to be killed just like them, he also defended the driver who hit the limo- killing those girls. This place is atrocious, stuck up, and disrespectful. The owner had the audacity to call the police on our limo driver, and after all of that the cop actually told the owner that he was being ridiculous and he had no right calling the cops and that we did nothing wrong. This place is horrendous and to give this place money is basically approving what this man said about a terrible accident. They pretty much ask people to drink and drive off their property.. do not go here by any means - you are better off giving your money to a boxed wine company than supporting these rude, arrogant and belittling people. read more

Came here with a large group and were almost turned away. We asked about splitting into two small groups instead, but were eventually seated as a whole group which was great. But that's the end of the nice things I have to say about this place. To keep it short, as you've read it all before, our waitress was rude, the owner was rude, and the few drops of wine you get in each glass for a tasting isn't worth it. Don't worry though, there are plenty of other wineries in the area. read more

I have been going to Croteaux since it opened several years ago and have always loved it. Love the atmosphere, the wine, Sargeant, the dog, everything. I have spent hundreds if not almost a thousand dollars there on wine and merchandise. I can totally understand why they don't want party buses full of bachelorettes there getting wasted. It does not fit with the style of vineyard. But when I tell my family on my birthday how much I love this place and they act like seating 9 of us (all sober, well dressed professionals) is a huge inconvenience and we are lucky they are making an exception for us, I have to write this type of review. We visibly saw our dark haired waiter roll his eyes and shake his head while he was walking away when we were trying to pay the bill. We all had tastings and spend about $150 in a mere 40 minutes or so and left. We really were made to feel as if we were putting them out, and it wasn't even that busy there. Last year they actually put signs on the tables stating patrons were limited to spending 45 minutes. I did not see those signs this time. I am guessing there must have had a huge backlash. The hostess actually was not bad at all, but we were definitely soured by the reception we received. If you want to be treated like your business is actually valued, pick another winery. read more

I was turned away from a job there because I am full figured, not an actress and they "type" she was looking for. We had virtually the same experience as Evans E, below. We practically lived at Croteaux during 2014 and 2015 and couldn't wait to return this summer. We've since returned twice so far and were disappointed both times to be brusquely directed to a table without any choice as to table vs. Adirondack chairs, or even sun vs. shade. We were even more disappointed to be assigned a young, inexperienced server on one of those occasions and to find that the artichoke tapenade is gone; the bottle wall is gone; there's no more music; and even the TAP WATER is gone. (Oh, but you can *buy* a bottle of sparkling ... which no one in my party drinks.) We frequent the wineries on both the North and South Forks and in Napa, and being refused a small glass of tap water -- particularly during a wine tasting -- is a new one on me. I suppose these must be necessary cost-cutting measures, but if things are that dire financially at Croteaux, maybe it's time to hang it up? I'd do that before I'd allow such a charming and beautiful spot to come off as cheap and tacky, which is sadly how it's starting to look. read more

She personally insulted my group who spent quite a decent amount of money and she does does support sober driving as she said that we needed to drive ourselves after we drank. I've always felt an anxious atmosphere at Croteaux. While one or two servers are nice enough, there seems a general disinterest amongst the staff. I've worked in tasting rooms for years, and Id never let that become the modus operandi. I have never had a run in with the staff or owners, but I have heard of and seen myself way too many instances in which the owners are incredibly confrontational with customers. I find the attitude there to be very "nice nasty." The wine is steeped in mediocrity. They have very reductive aromatics, and I find many to have strange astringencies; aldehydic wines if you ask me. Lots of imbalance with the pHs and TAs, too. The location and packaging of the product are very nice. Other than that it's a wolf in sheep's clothing. Their policies toward fellow wine industry people is somewhat nauseating; if you are part time, they do not accommodate you. Paula has her famous line "are you part time or full time?" Better not be part time, or they won't take care of you! It's a great way to get industry folks to NOT send people to your tasting room. Speaking of tastings, you simply get your wines given to you on two plates; the staff isn't there to educate you on their wines and the production processes therein. There are better places to be found that are just as nice, have better wine, and have a much friendlier, less combative, more informative atmosphere, such as Sparkling Pointe or Mccall. read more

We have a place on the North Fork and had made it a point to bring people here whenever we could. It is a beautiful place and the owners have done a wonderful job designing the place. We went here the last Saturday in September and had an awful experience. We walked in at 4:30 and were served a pitcher of rose at about 4:40. At about 5 minutes to 5 the female owner walked over to our table and let us know -- in a sing song-y aggressive tone --while she was straightening up the table-- that they close at 5 and that she would appreciate us leaving promptly as she had family in town. Our female guest rightfully gave her a bit of a hard time ala "shall we chug the pitcher of Rose that you allowed to be delivered to our table a few minutes ago" until her husband protested our treatment by calling her in a stern tone. She left and 3 minutes later a young guy comes over to give us the bum's rush! I should add that there were at least 4 or more groups that came in after us and more tables were filled. It really made us uncomfortable. I got up to pay a couple of minutes after 5 and the female owner seemed to be using a sharp tone with everyone -- while still managing a snotty sing song tone. The icing on the cake is when our male friend (the nicest guy) was leaving when she asks him in a loud tone in front of other customers "did you pay?"! I had paid but went to the car to avoid the bad vibes I was feeling. Needless to say as much as I liked the place and the wine, I would not go back. Don't know what's going on there but perhaps they should hire a staff that can relieve them when they need a break or have a family dinner. Go because it is a lovely place and everyone deserves a second chance but beware the mood of the potentially nasty blonde owner. read more

Having previously visited Croutoux vineyards with friends and having a good time and enjoying the product I thought it would be a good idea to bring back family and some additional friends. That day the owner and daughter were manning the door and were extremely rude. I had heard before that the proprietors were not very nice but not having seen that on the prior visit, I thought possibly the people who told me this had been there on an off day. To my surprise we were asked to leave for just looking around the premises . All this after saying we were going to buy a bottle of wine but the counter sales were a little busy at the moment . It was a cloudy day around 2:30 in the afternoon and the seating area was not crowded. The owner said that it was getting too busy and that they could just not have people wandering around. From this point on I will be buying my wines elsewhere ...their loss..warning, try not to make it yours.. read more

Terrible and rude people. My family was turned away right before we were about to buy a bottle of wine for simply stepping outside into the back area and greeting the owner. Instead of welcoming us as customers, she said "we don't allow people to walk around". The place was empty on a cloudy day at the end of harvest season. We simply walked out stunned. After some ok reviews from family members, I was initially excited to go to the only rosé winery for my birthday. I live local and go to many wineries and I love supporting local businesses and tasting some amazing wines. I'm also a member of 4 wineries and love the excuse to join more. Unfortunately I will never go back and give a second chance. First impressions are everything! As I pull up the sign says both "closed" and "open 12-5". It's 4:25 so my group and I weren't sure what was going on. We pull on the side of the road instead of pulling in to discuss with this other car we were with where else to go since they are closed. My mother gets out and a man walks up and is very rude and sarcastic about all of the signs about parking. He says "can't you read? You obviously pull in the direction the signs are pointing". So she clarifies that they are open and he says "yes the last tasting is 4:30". I pull in as my friends go to the winery and as I walk up they are coming back to the parking lot to inform me that a very rude lady comes out and say they are closed and last tasting is 4:30. We respond that it's 4:30 now and she's just says well we are closed and basically kicks us out. There is definitely some lack of communication with the two people because why let us park only to tell us to leave? And we got there on time. And the attitude was uncalled for. Very poor customer service. Luckily there are plenty of other places I can enjoy my time at that are worth going to. read more

french country chic..modern but vintage.. every element of design and layout thought out. nothing about this place is amateurish. extremely helpful and lithe young servers. Each rose unique in its' own way. truly enjoyed the Jolie, the 3 and the 314. flight of 3 wines for $10 or full flight of 6 for $15. baguette with herbed cheese spread $10 complemented wine perfectly. a beautiful place to spend a couple hours. most bottles $19-$25. worth every penny. read more

Croteaux was recommended to my friends and I, who were going to Orient for the weekend, by my co-worker, and when we got there, we immediately thought the place was very nice, and the day was perfect to sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine. The menu stated that the tasting was $15 per person, and it included 5 rose wines, and one glass of their Sangria - all four of us ordered the tasting. We were served only 4 rose and the sangria, so we inquired with one of the girls (not our server) if we were understanding the menu correctly, she told us it was a "typo" and said that just the day before they had ran out of their Sparkling Rose, so I told her that they should change the menu, because it is misleading. A few minutes later our server came to our table, so I asked her if there was a substitute for the Sparkling Rose, she flatly said no, so I told her it doesn't make sense that they are advertising 6 tastings on the menu and only giving 5, but still charging the same price, she told me "that is not my concern", so I asked if she thought it was MY concern as a costumer, she said "that's just how it is" so I told her, that she needs to at least inform the costumers BEFORE they order that they are not getting exactly what's on the menu, and she did the unthinkable...... she walked away from me with the attitude of "i had enough", so I turned around and said outloud "are you walking away from me?" she turned back, looked at me, and kept on walking. I will NEVER come back to this place, nor will I ever recommend it to anyone! If costumer service is not your thing, then stay away from it. I also think that the price is very high for what they have to offer and for the quality of their wine, I must admit that the sangria was very good, and i had the intention of buying some to take home, but after the way I was treated the LAST thing I was gong to to was spend $25 on a small bottle of sangria, I will NOT give them any more business. I wish I knew the server's name, so that I can tell you all to stay away from her, she is just plain NASTY. read more

I love Croteaux and it's sad to see people leave bad reviews and one star because they somehow overlooked the rules that are clearly posted. If you want a nice relaxing experience sipping rose in what you might think would be an English Garden then please, go to Croteaux. They have rules discouraging large groups and limos so that they can provide this relaxing atmosphere to their patrons, I'm sure. The staff can be more attentive, and I don't necessarily love that they serve all their tastings at once (by the time I got to my third tasting it was kind of warm.) but all that seems to not matter as you sip wonderful roses in a gorgeous, lush garden with friends and loved ones. read more

To date my favorite vineyard on the island! As a designer upon walking in I immediately soaked in the ambiance and the identity of Croteaux. Modern French country chic. Firstly upon arrival you are greeted by friendly staff, eager for you to stay with them. The owner's daughter was there the day we arrived the first time. Inside the small shop you walk into the lead you to the back tasting area. It is as is you walked into the French countryside: old barns made beautiful with rustic adornments, cloth banners and curtains flowing in the breeze, dainty metal chairs, tables with brightly colored umbrellas nestled in a garden and graveled paths. You can sit inside of one of the barns that looks like a page out of pinterest: old wooden benches covered in vibrant patterned cushions and a wall made entirely of wine bottles. Now would be a good time to mention the wine. The Rose' wines are beautifully crafted and all unique. I love how they bring them to you in the bottom of a flower pot and the descriptions can be seen below written on a mat at the bottom. My favorite is the Jolie- sadly this one is sold out for the rest of this season. The tasting prices are reasonable and the staff in very knowledgeable. Just a head's up though, no large parties are accepted in, only parties up to 6 people. read more

This place was one of the hightlights of our weekend in Northfork. A friend of mine and I were biking down the road to explore wineries. After not a very good experience at the Old Field Vinyards, we were pleasantly surprised by the Croteaux. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I liked their limiting policy on outside food and the number of people. This place is ideal for couples and small intimite groups to enjoy the wine and the view. Though this place is small, it is set up in such a way so that each small group of people have their own cosy space. The wines were amazing, cheese spread was delicious, and the service was very friendly. read more

If possible I'd give 0 stars for rudeness and extremely uncalled for actions by the owner. A group of 7 girls took a limo to the north fork for a girls day at the vineyards. None of us had heard of this place so we figured we would give it a try... Bad idea!!! The driver pulled up and let 6 of 7 of us out (1 girl had stay in the limo and take care of something before meeting us inside). We were unaware that limos were not allowed (I'm sure the driver was cause he had previously tried other places where limos were not generally welcomed but we were only 7 girls, none of us intoxicated and it was a cold rainy Sunday where no place we went was overly busy). We were not stopped and went up to the tasting barn. We began our tasting and a few minutes later the owner (male) stormed up to us screaming at us telling us limos were not allowed and told us to get out, amongst other horrible things.. (Again none of us were intoxicated or rowdy and were the only people in the place). We were shocked at the way this man screamed at us. We asked our server how much it would be to finish the 1 of 6 wines in our tasting and she came back a few minutes later and said we could finish our whole tasting but our other friend was not allowed to start. We were left to feel rushed and extremely uncomfortable. A few minutes later another woman (co-owner and wife to the screaming man) came up and apologized to us for his behavior and tried to explain why they have their rules and why he was so horrible to us. She did comp us for 3 of 6 of our tastings. We explained that we were unaware of the no limo rule and that we didn't deserve to be screamed at like we were. We finished our tasting in record time and left. When we got back to our friend she told us how horrible this man was to the limo driver and to her cause he had gone out and screamed at them before coming up to us. I wish I could tell you everything this man said to us but most of it would be banned from this site... i wish one of us would have recorded it for u-tube or some other site. We will never return there even if in our own personal cars. read more

I had a horrible experience trying to plan a private affair at this vineyard. The staff was rude and unprofessional and cancelled my affair 4 days after accepting a $500 deposit from me. I lost a non-refundable deposit on transportation and had to call 30 guests to tell them the event was cancelled. Then I rescheduled elsewhere. This vineyard was bothered by what they called my "request for floor plans and handicap access." I am from out of town and had never seen the place, so I was interested in the layout, but never thought this would be a reason to cancel a party. I felt terrible that my concern for my handicap guests was cause for this vineyard to cancel my event. I am happy to take my business to a more accommodating venue. read more
