This is one of the better equiped Ace Hardware that I have been to, and it has a real friendly staff. What I like about Ace is that they have BBQ, cooking, cleaning, and other stuff in an organized manner. They also have a great fastener (screw, bolts, springs, etc.)selection. I like going to Ace hardware because its customer service is so good and toady is no exception. I typically visit the Ace on Culver in Irvine, but today I went to the one on San Miguel NB. As soon as the young gentleman saw me, he greeted me with a smile and asked how he could help me. He found what I was looking for and answered all my questions. Even though I didn't end up getting anything because my wife already purchased what we needed at another Ace earlier, he was still very patient and helpful. I came into Crown Ace on March 2nd to grab a lockbox and combo lock. I was immediately greeted with a "Hello, can I help you find anything". Took him up on this offer and he showed me to the lock boxes. I got what I needed and then we struck up a great conversation about Newport. I'll be brief with this review because I have no complaints at all. Overall, this location has great customer service but limited selection. And, yes, it may be a tad more pricey than Home Depot or Lowe's. However, pay no mind to the price as there is always a customer service at the door or in the aisle to help you regardless of your need. That type of service is worth the money to me. I'm glad this store has been open for as long as it has. Combo lock costs double what the price is on Amazon. I try to support local business but when the markup is that big, it makes it hard to do so. Safe to assume everything is severely marked up so unless you need whatever it is IMMEDIATELY, I would just get it on Amazon and wait 2 days for it to show up. read more

It is so comforting to have a neighborhood store like this that's still around. These guys always greet you with a smile, and give great advice. They'll help you load large purchases into your car and help you find that perfect paint thinner you need for your project. Today I needed keys made. I don't feel comfortable going in places because I sometimes have to work with COVID patients and I want to be respectful of essential workers. As always, Teresa and Karen were so kind - they came out to the car to get my keys for me and brought them back to my car. This location is located in a quaint little plaza in Newport. The store is pretty small so don't expect a Home Depot when you walk in. Even though it's a small store it's loaded with everything you need to fix the kitchen sink or to get rid of the algae in your water fountain. I guess I'm really good at managing to look confused at one of these stores because a lot of people asked if I needed help. Everyone was very friendly and willing to help. Ace is a bit pricier than the regular Home Depot but it's convenient for Newport especially when all you really need to buy is a screw or soil. read more

Do not expect the lifetime warranty on the side of the tool box to apply when you have a problem with it. I bought a $169.00 Craftsman tool set and the system does not work, they will not exchange it for one that works, now every time I open the box all the tools and sockets are at the bottom and it takes 8 minutes to switch sockets and locate the next one. I love this place...it is almost like I live back home in the south where people are friendly. It's really a small town hardware store where they actually help you and are pleasant. Just watch out for the nesting birds in the summer [they are protected by the state but plenty of signs warn you]....it's sort of a cute quirk. Bought a Weber gas grill from this Ace. Waited three weeks for assembly and delivery and it doesn't work. The gas canister was defective so they gave me a new one. I question why they didn't test it before they gave it to us. Now it won't light I think the starter is not working as I can't hear the clicking sound you typically hear. Called the store and they said call Weber not their problem. Terrible service I recommend don't buy a grill from these guys. Update- day manager helped me thru the problem and all good now. read more

I would shop elsewhere. First, prices are much higher than any other hardware store a little inland, so you are definitely paying up for convenance. Second, in my experience there, some of the people working there have zero idea what they are doing. If I am laying out hundreds of dollars for home improvement I like to have help from people who know what they are doing so I'm buying the right product. I tried to buy paint there and the color was mixed incorrectly initially and then the sales clerk still at as not sure if the final cans were correct or not. A nice kid, but no experience and no help from other people in the store. (Also, found exact same paint at Vista Paint for 20% lower) read more

Jonny and the staff at the San Miguel Ace in Newport Beach are phenomenal! I have going there for years, and everyone has always been super helpful and friendly, but this story beats all: I picked up a patio heater on July 3 for a 4th of July BBQ. We did not start putting it together until the 4th (of course), and my husband just could not get it to work. I called up to Ace (happy you guys were open) and Jonny spent several minutes on the phone with us. Next thing we knew, he came over to our house, helped us troubleshoot, and then my husband went back to swap out a piece. Everything worked and we had the heater we needed for our BBQ. Good old fashioned service that you just don't find at Home Depot and the other big places. I can walk around at the other places for 20 minutes before somebody asks me if I need help. I went there like 5 times today because I was having sever difficulties fixing and installing a sprinkler system. There was one worker there in plumbing that helped me solve all my problems. Had I gone to Home Depot I never would have gotten anywhere. Plus I was in and out in less than 10 minutes every trip. For now on, I am going to go to Ace Hardware not Home Depot.
