My Mom and I went here and ordered a quesadilla to share and a side of wings. We got our bill and she charged us almost $8 for a side of ranch, salsa & sour cream, and it's not those big sides, it was those little plastic cups where you can barely fit your wing in it to dip. I complained to our waitress and you know what she said .. "salsa is expensive" Will never go back and I'm telling anyone who will listen to go to knights pub instead. Been going there for almost two years. Loved the place. Sadly I will never go back after taking my work crew there. My boss had a clubhouse. Bacon looked deep fried and was ice cold, cold cut processed half frozen turkey. My boss complained after one bite and I don't blame her. Being a chef myself in fine dining. It was a shit sandwich. The owners did nothing not even offered an alternative for her. One owner said to me my boss was sticky. Why. Because she East Indian? Than after that the cook stormed me and said if she was here he would slap her in the face. She was as polite as pie and one of the most generous, giving people I know. I'm so embarrassed by this establishment I have no words. I bring people there all the time. But never again. read more

Wings are good decent price and many flavors. Pizza sub is ok Bathroom is at times under serviced. Did not like other food I have tried here besides fries, and got sick once after eating mushroom caps. They have pretty bad karoake and some of the regulars are annoying. I have enjoyed some of the live music though. Would go to Brewsters instead across the street for better food, beer selection, and atmosphere unless there was a decent music night my friends wanted to go to. read more

Oh my gawsh. So many excellent memories of the Crown & Anchor! This is place is so out of the way, and I never ever would have discovered it if a friend of mine hadn't been bartending for a short period in university. It's kinda north-east and in a little strip mall. Definitely not in a spot you would expect a fun bar to be, but there it is. Drinks were good and cheap (although maybe that's just because we had connections to the bartender), there were plenty of tables, and its run down-ness is kind of charming, really. We always order greasy pub food, too. Yum. Greasy. Usually once we have enough drink in us, we'll end up playing Buck Hunter, one of the video games in the corner. So bad at it. I've lived on the North side for five years, and have visited this pub on many occasions, usually making it in at least once every two weeks. Unfortunately, the new owners who took over in 2015 seem to be in over their heads. Three visits in a row we've endured flat beer and slow service. While the food was never extraordinary, it is now completely undesirable. Last night, I ordered my favourite item: the Teriyaki Chicken Burger. The chicken breast was a thin, bland, barely warmed slab that was completely lost in the oversized bun. The tomato and lettuce were actually withered and limp. I've grown up on the north side and have always loved this place! Once I turned 18 that was the first place I went! Lunch is cheap and super tasty. Every day there's usually some sort of drink or food special. Plenty of live music happens and the crowd is a good mix of young and old. I recently moved close by and my girlfriend and I have been coming here frequently. Servers are always polite, friendly and drinks are reasonably priced. Live music is well worth coming by to listen to and you're guaranteed a good time. We were here last Friday night for a fundraiser, while the hockey game was on. The place was packed and it was obvious that the staff was overwhelmed completely. It seems like a nice little pub - clean, nice washrooms, etc. Roast beef or chicken, with friends and veg was included with our ticket. It took 45 minutes to come but it was actually better than I expected. We also ordered wings but they took an hour and seemed a little over done. I think this is the kind of place though that you give a second chance - on a night that wasn't so busy, so that the kitchen and wait staff have a chance to catch up. But even saying that, I'm not rushing back (it's also on the other side of the city from us so it's not a place we would just drop into). Our server though, despite how busy she was, was absolutely fantastic. I would give her 5 stars for sure, for keeping her cool, being extremely pleasant and apologetic. There was a waitress through who wasn't as cool, yelling across the bar to other employees, but you could tell that she was still working extremely hard. read more

There is nothing special about this neighbourhood watering hole. My boyfriend grew up in castledowns and he always wants to go here when we are in the north side. I always roll my eyes because I don't get the appeal. The service is fine, not horrible, not great, the drinks are always made right and this place has gotten a little rowdy on the weekends. I've never had a bad time here, but again, it is just a regular old pub. If you live in the north side, sure, check it out. I would not recommend anyone go out of their way to have a beer at The Crown & Anchor though. read more

Crown & Anchor Pub is really out of my way but one night I was dragged here by a friend who loves it. The place is like any other neighbourhood pub. Not the nicest looking place and not the best service but not the worst. Like many pubs Crown & Anchor strikes me as a place that grows on you. The Crown & Anchor is a high quality dive bar, and my go to place. It's close to home, the drinks are reasonably priced, and the food is significantly above average for a neighborhood pub. The Staff is always friendly and most of them will try to get to know you if you come in more than once. Most importantly it is generally calm, you can sit and have a drink and meet some new people, and nobody is going to try and start a fight with you because you look like that guy that broke up with his sister 8 years ago (true story, happened a different place). VLTs, pool tables, darts, and a jukebox keep things entertaining. Some things to keep in mind before visiting the crown: The décor is bit traditional and worn out. This isn't a secret place where you find a gem hiding in the rough. They don't stock vermouth, or craft beer. So if you want a high class contemporary bar or gastro pub to enjoy an expertly prepared martini, or a small batch designer beer and artisan sandwiches you wont find it here. What you will find is a clean neighborhood pub, with good food, and good prices, and good people. Also I give bonus points for not having Karaoke. Took your advice and tried the Crown and Anchor in Castledowns last night. Great selection of Gluten free options, including the Wings, and they take catering to Allergies VERY seriously. Very good service, friendly, attentive and helpful. The wings were excellent. 49 cents a wing with any beverage, about 10 wings to a pound, cooked perfect and properly sauced. My wife had the Salt and Lemon Pepper wings, she said they were the best wings she has had in a very long time. I had the regular hot. The hot wings were lightly sauced but with some extra sauce in the basket so you can add more. The onion rings were a large basket for 6 buckets and the half order of Cactus chips for 5 bucks were great too. There was more food than we could eat, and with two beer the whole bill came to $43. The game was on last night so no live music but they have a band fairly regular, pool tables and darts along with a few slot machines. Going to keep checking out places but so far I really like the food at Crown and Anchor and it had a great pub vibe. read more

I came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. It is your typical neighborhood bar with slot machines and pool tables and a jukebox. Good old tunes from the 90's were playing. The owners were bartending and were friendly. Our first server was not very personable and didn't check in on us much but our second server was great. Drinks seem standard as well as the prices. I didn't have anything to eat but my friend had the mini sliders and said they were awesome. The place wasn't very clean. Even though our Table had been wiped, it was still sticky. I think the stickiness is permanently there. Not a place I would regularly come to but I can see it's appeal for those who just want to get out and share a beer with their buddies. read more

Let me start by saying that one, the benches on the patio are made of wood and you could definitely get a splinter in places you don't want one. Two, the waitress took about 10-15 mins before asking for drink choices after we sat down, another 20 to receive drinks and 10 minutes to get menus. Three, the food was absolutely disgusting. The chicken was like rubber, the cheese was rubber, the steak was rubber! The only plus side was the alcoholic beverages we had received! Wings are seemingly always cheap and the beer is always cold. Plenty of flavours to choose from on both fronts. The claw machine in the back has sex toys in it. What else do you need to know? This Northside Pub has been well known to those in the Castledown's area for many years and it is easy to see why. Offering a warm, traditional pub atmosphere with a large selection of beers on tap and ample seating it's draws a crowd of people to far from downtown to travel. With Specials every night and a Wing Wednesday that will gratify the pickest of wing eaters. I recommend their Cajun wings, very plump, very Tasty. The Calimari is a good choice as well. This pub is as friendly as it is contributing, offering pub nights and silent auctions for local charity and team functions. karaoke night is always a good time too as if you get lucky and spin the big "Birthday" wheel you could be walking away with some pub money... They have healthier options too if you want: 5 different salads, soup, & wraps. The girls give quick service, are so friendly, and chat just the right amount. This place has great wings and is an awesome little hangout. Sadly, the 2 'larger' servers are the owners wife and daughter (the ones I assume most people are refering to when they talk about bad service). They are the most ignorant, rude and lazy people I have ever encountered in any service industry. The only reason they have a job there is because they are related to the owner (who is actually quite a nice guy). If they were no longer working there it would be 5 stars from me. Their terrible attitudes are so bad it drags the place down to a 1 star. As good as any other English pub on St. Patrick's Day! They have Guinness and Fish and Chips and far fewer line ups than the Irish places. What else could you want, decent music, a bathroom with some way to dry your hands, and servers that showed up hourly. But it is St. Pats and it is packed! This place has gone to shit. Not only do they have their friends and family boasting about how good it is they also report any negative comments about their service. I have been going to this place for many years and have never been so disappointed in how rude and unprofessional they have been. Their bartender Nicole is by far the worst, her hair is in people's drinks, she is constantly eating behind the bar and her customer service is horrible. I watched her tale a straw and stir a flat beer to make it look like it was good. The owners daughter Erin should not be working there, she is continually putting down the other staff and just eating the free food she can get while being paid. I have found mold on my toast, hair and lipstick on my glasses, undercooked chicken, flat beer and flies in the bathroom. I am so disappointed with this place and never going back read more
