A repairman went my 75 year old parents' home for refrigerator repair. He was not masked. When my mom, who has an autoimmune disease, asked him to, he said his doctor told him not to because of heart problems. He should not be going into people's homes if he cannot follow the COVID safety protocols the business claims they follow on their Yelp page. Where do I even start ?! I had only 2 jobs for them, one was to see if they could track down the annoying buzzing sound my brand new refrigerator continuously made, the second was to see why my frost free box freezer in the garage kept frosting up, I figured a bad seal. They missed the first two appointments THEY set up, no call, no text. When they finally got here they did stop the buzzing, said it was a couple of loose screws on the back plate. Then they went to look at the freezer, said it wasn't a bad seal but a bad thermostat. Said they're order the part, here's the worst part , that morning I went to winco and bought 4 packages of top sirloin steaks, guess what ? GONE!, yep, one of them took them. The other kicker, Johnny used my bathroom, he didn't flush. After they left I went to use my bathroom and right there in my toilet bowl was a tampon with poo on it!, there are no women in my house! I have been waiting for over 3 weeks for them to replace a part for my microwave. I paid almost $800 for the initial service and part. They brought a loaner microwave and said it would be 7 working days to get the part. They cashed the check and I have called at least 15 times over the last 3 weeks and have not had one response. Started process of getting refrigerator and stovetop burner replaced on October 28th. Refrigerator needed a new evaporator fan and stovetop a new burner. Parts were ordered and refrigerator was fixed by Nov. 1st. Burner was still on the way. Was supposed to take 5-7 days. I paid $60 extra for shipping. Made numerous calls asking if part in and most of the time they never answer the phone. Finally, I called again and the part was in. Scheduled for Nov 16th. I was happy it would be fixed before Thanksgiving. Well, they were a no-show and did not even call. Took a few calls to get ahold of them as why they didn't show or call. They said they didn't have the part. In the mean time(Nov 10th), now the freezer is icing up and they said they would look at it when they fix the stove top. Said the drain is backing up because it probably has debris in it. Well it didn't do that before they replaced the evap fan so I can only assume they left debris in the freezer when they "fixed" it. I had cleaned it out completely before they fixed it, so it wasn't from me. So finally, they come Nov. 30th to fix the burner and assess the freezer. So now because the freezer iced up, the drain can't just be cleaned because you know, ice expands, and the drain pipe cracked. So now, order another part. One in Sacramento so will be in fast. Yeah, right. They just finished fixing that today, Dec. 14th. Over 1 1/2 months for two simple issues. To top it off. He charged me $140 per hour for 2 hours. He charged $100 per hour last time and told me I was paying for the refrigerator and stove top. Amount seemed high to me so I called 2 other places and they charge $60 an hour. Crown has extremely poor customer service, they never answer their phone. They change their pricing and charge you twice. They lie about anything and everything. They don't show up or call to cancel appointments and then don't even apologize. When I complained, receptionist admits they are receiving a lot of complaints and seemed frustrated too. I called Crown Appliance to repair my built in oven In August of 2021. Johnny(Old School) and Ryan came out to fix my oven. They said the controller was bad and it had to be shipped to a dealer that repaired the controllers, and it would take approximately a couple of weeks for the controller to be mailed, repaired, and returned. I gave them $250.00 for the repair visit, of which $150 was for the repair of the controller. After waiting about 4 weeks I called to find out what was the delay. I was told because of covid it was hard to get the necessary parts to complete the repairs of the controller. After waiting another month i called and asked again about the status of my controller. I told them if it was not fixed to return it to me as i myself had contacted someone who could repair the controller. After waiting another two weeks I called and asked for an update. I was told they had received the controller and would deliver it to me on the following Monday. On Monday there was a no show. I called on Tuesday and was told the repair company had returned the wrong controller and I would have to wait until they contacted the repair company to see when they would send the correct controller back. I waited 2 weeks and called for an update on the controller return. The phone number listed for Crown Appliance Repair give a recording that the phone line is no longer in service. It has been 5 months since the original repair visit and I still do not have the controller back. I had to purchase a new oven because i could not wait any longer for my oven to be repaired. If i could give Crown Appliance Repair a minus star i would. I was referred to this appliance repair company by Appliance Parts on 9th street in Modesto, so i figured they would be a reputable company. BEWARE DONT USE THIS COMPANY. read more

Unfortunately, there isnt an option to leave ZERO star rating... This has been by far the worst experience ever. We rarely require any third party to assist with ANY repairs being that my father is VERY handy and can repair just about anything. My parents have reached out to this place in search of assistance in repairing their very well maintained Washer that began failing and not having water run through it. My father didnt want to risk anything so they decided to reach out to "professional" repair assistance, and choosing locally. Crown Appliance came byon 9/5/18, inspected and gave them a quote and required a deposit be made to supposedly order the part that would fix the issue. Their First Visit ...nothing was done. This amount was broken down to be $200 for a deposit. They also charged $89.99 for S/C (Whatever that means). After this, they took over 10 days or more to come back with supposedly the part "ordered". They installed it, again, charged my parents for a part quoted at $194.64 plus $50.00 labor plus tax. They supposedly charge $25.00 every 1/4 hour for labor....which is ridiculous... A few days later, the washer began to fail AGAIN. They came back out with a "loaner" washer, from god knows who or when. This washer was nothing close to the washer my parents were repairing. They took my parents washer to have it inspected and repaired. While my mom appreciated the effort and the loaner, this has now became a nightmare. Its now 1/16/19, still no part, no repaired washer, no call backs, no follow ups...nothing. Ive now taken the lead in the situation based on a language barrier, since my parents first language is Spanish, they dont feel comfortable confronting the matter. Ive called multiple times, Ive been interrupted, and received horrible customer service. I was told the Owner Johnny would call me back regarding this matter. Until today, still no call from anyone. I waited a week, called back again, and nothing, they took my name and number AGAIN and said they promised Johnny would call me back. Today, AGAIN. No one has reached out to me nor my parents about this issue. We are asking to have our Washer returned, repaired or not, and our complete refund. This is very unacceptable. We could of gone elsewhere to have it repaired immediately, even if we had to pay more. But the fact that we have paid over $500.00, we could of just bought a brand new washer than go through all this hassle and deal with a incompetent business. This issue has still been unresolved....so we will see what else we will need to do to get the attention of this place and their owner. My next step will be reaching out the BBB.... If this company had been my own choice, then I probably would not have even considered them based on the reviews. Since it was a warranty service provided through LG, I didn't have a choice in the matter and I'm thankful for that. Johnny, the first gentleman to come and check out the fridge was knowledgeable and made sure that we got service ASAP. We had our part and service appointment for two days later. Jerry came out and fixed our fridge. While I could have been upset that he left my appointment for a medical appointment in Modesto (I'm in Atwater), I was actually grateful that he came to service our fridge anyway. It showed dedication to his customers and his work. It took poor Jerry all day, but he was patient with my crazy kids, he was kind, and best of all he fixed our fridge!!! I also feel inclined to incorporate his favorite word into my own vocabulary "humdinger" Also, I found that he has a pretty incredible story to tell (his own of course, so I won't share). I will continue to pray for Jerry and their business. I hope that these reviews are turned around and that this company is blessed! So grateful for a working fridge, I don't care how long it took. Air Conditioner Installation Towards the end of July, our 12 year old LG LWHD1800R air conditioner stopped working. I called Honey Solar to see about repairing it since they were the company we used to service our house heating and air equipment twice a year. They said they do not service window air conditioners, but referred us to Crown Appliance. After 2 days of calling, I finally reached Johnny. We agreed that due to the age of the LG air conditioner, it would be wiser to buy a new unit. He connected me with his wife, Liz, who works at Coast Appliance. She found a Crosley Window Heat/Cooling Unit which we purchased from her for a total of 679.51 on July 29, 2021. She had been professional, polite, responsive to our phone inquiries and great to work with. On Tuesday, August 17, Johnny and Ryan, his apprentice, arrived with the Crosley. They removed the old unit with some difficulty and proceeded to install the new unit. There was quite a space between the wall and the new unit that had to be fixed. Johnny and Ryan took a lunch break and returned after shopping at Home Depot with some boards and hardware for another project. The job was not complete, but Johnny presented us with the bill and expected to be paid in full. When I asked for a receipt for the $219 spent on supplies, I was told that Ryan did not get a receipt, and he would have to go back to the Home Depot. He said if there was a discrepancy, we would be reimbursed. He left around 5:20 and was to return after 3:00 the following day to do the finish work on the install and complete a separate project on the shed doors. Johnny and Ryan never returned on Wednesday as promised, nor did they call. As we more carefully reviewed the bill, we had additional questions, such as an unidentified expense of $51.26. We never pay a bill in full until the work is complete, but Johnny's demeanor made it uncomfortable to question. By Thursday morning, we became very concerned when we still had not heard from Johnny. When we could not reach him through Crown Appliance, we called his wife, Liz, to see if she knew anything. She said she would call him and did give us his cell phone number. Forty-five minutes later we had not heard anything so we called our bank. Since the check had not yet cleared, we stopped payment on the check until we had resolution to our questions. I called Liz to let her know what we had done and also left a message on Johnny's cell phone to tell him we had stopped payment and would pay in full as soon as the job was done and our questions answered. Rayan eventually called and said they would finish the job on Friday, but called again a short time later to say they would be here in about 30 minutes. At first Johnny would not speak to me and he and Ryan went about finishing the patch up work on the trim around the air conditioner. They also added some insulation to the back of the unit. Over all, we were pleased with what they completed in the installation, but felt overcharged. I have never experienced what happened next. Johnny let loose expressing his anger about us stopping payment on the check. Because I have never stopped payment on a check before, I did not know that Crown Appliance would be charged $40. He used abusive and threatening language saying he knows where we live and that he would not leave until we paid him in cash in full plus the $40 fee. What was he expecting to accomplish using profanities as he bullied two women in their 70 telling my spouse to shut her "F"ing mouth as he stepped toward her? We could not ask a question or say anything as he continued on his tirade. He threatened to put our old air conditioner in our driveway so we would have to take it to hazmat. My spouse was afraid to leave me at home while she went to the bank to get the cash. I assured her I would be OK because I did not want to leave him at our home without one of us there. He asked if I wanted him to paint the molding or do the other job on the shed doors. With him in that state, all I wanted was for him to leave. When I tried to connect with Ryan, he simply said, "My hands are tied." He did say that he would get the materials receipt to us, which he has not done. Bonnie returned from the bank within about 20 minutes and paid the bill plus $40 in cash, and they drove off. Wednesday, August 25, I went to Home Depot to price the items that were purchased for the job. Rather than $219 we were billed, I came up with a total of $82.79. The Crown Appliance is no longer located at the Wylie Drive address. We do not want to talk with Johnny but do not know whom we might call. We have read the evaluations on Yelp after the fact, and we have discovered we are not alone in this experience with Johnny and Crown Appliance. With no other recourse in view, we will add a review of our experiences and file a claim with the Better Business Bureau, This experience and money due us does not deserve to go unnoticed. read more

When he did arrive he did not seem to know what he was doing. After 45 minutes he left with my check saying he needed help to remove the appliance. He said he would get help and call the next day to reschedule. After a day, I called to follow up. We rescheduled for the two people to show up. The tech showed up late. The second guy never showed. The tech started to repeat the same procedures from the first visit. He finally said the second guy wasn't going to show. He said he would "let them know" and they would call the next day. First, he took one look at our 3 year old fridge and claimed he could fix it. Charged us $678 and supposedly ordered a part. TWO weeks go by and they finally return only to tell us that since our fridge is a Kenmore, we must use a Sears approved repairman (which he is not). Then, during that very confusing second visit, right after telling us we need a Sears approved repair person, he miraculously claimed to have fixed it! Great. Paid an additional $150 (stopped payment though). Nope. It does not work. After multiple calls and finally reaching them late in the evening, he goes on and on and on about how we need to call Sears. But this should've been disclosed prior to taking my money in the first place. So, after paying $678, I still have a broken refrigerator. If a repair person is not sure they can complete a kenmore job, the customer must know up front. Also, I scheduled only morning appts and both times, they arrived at 3pm. Very unprofessional. Our last conversation, he was very hostile and rude, much like a few previous reviews. They recently went through a company name change to RDM. My guess? Too many complaints under Crown. Well, where do I begin? I purchased a used stackable vent less washer/dryer from this company yesterday 4/10/17. The unit was delivered and we were advised that someone would return with our user manual shortly. Also, let me point out that it is a good thing my room mate was there because without him they never would have been able to get this unit set up and into our house. Only one guy and a girl showed up and since he just had a knee replacement not to long ago my roommate did the grunt work because he felt bad for him. After they left we wanted to test how it works. We kept getting an error message on the top unit so I called to ask why this keeps happening. The lady that answered the phone stated that a technician would be coming by to give us our manual and to give us a tutorial on how to use it after he finished the service call he was on. At about almost 6PM a technician pulls into our drive way. My room mate went outside to guide him to our unit, he handed my room mate the manual through his truck window and answered one question and then just took off. We did not get a tutorial and he didn't even show an interest in helping us with our issue. At this point, we are feeling like this company got our money and unloaded this junk and then it was tough luck for us. Then we tested the dryer on the top unit and after it heated up an overwhelming stench of cat urine emanated from the unit. I opened it up and my wet clothes smelled like cat urine too. EEWWW! Also, after having only a top and a tank top in the dryer for 90 minutes they were still wet. I understand vent less dryers can take a bit longer but 90 minutes for two small tops and they were still pretty damp? That seems extreme. I called and left a message for them that evening. They opened at 8 AM the next day but by 9 AM no one had returned our call so my room mate called them. He explained that at this point we just want to return these and get a refund. We spent over $700 to have a unit leave our clothes smelling like cat pee!!!!! Seriously? The lady that answered stated she would call the owner and call us back. We offered to pay a restocking fee and to even drop them off just in the hopes of getting some of our money back. She called back and stated the owner would trade the top unit but would not in any way refund our money. Why would we want you to trade a unit or trust that it will work properly when the unit we already had was crap? At this point we knew they were a bit shady and were going to just have to take a hit money wise. I also got online to read more reviews and had not tied together that Crown Appliance was now Crown Creative Kitchens. I wish I had realized this because I would not have gone anywhere near this place. On a final note they have a sign in their window that states "In God We Trust". We mentioned this to the lady and told her they might want to reconsider taking that sign down because as Christian's ourselves it is just plain wrong and they should be ashamed of themselves. I do not recommend them at all. Extremely poorly ran company. No client management, no customer service, no communication. They continuously did not show up at their scheduled time and did not communicate with me, although they had no problem cashing my check before the work was complete. Oh and unless you like to be assaulted and physically threatened....YES I was literally assaulted and threatened in my garage by the male owner (I am female). He threatened physical harm there in my garage and if he ever saw me in public...you do NOT want to do business with them. I have filed a report with the Modesto Police Department, reported them to the BBB, and alerted the news station. Please do not support people who think it's okay to treat human beings in general like this, let alone paying customers. They do not deserve our support or hard earned dollars. read more

They came out for a warranty call, the warranty didn't cover the problem so I had to pay out of pocket. They didn't advise me of the possibility of charges before coming out. Their excuse for not advising me is that this only happens to 2% of their customers so its ok to not tell the customer of a possibility of a charge. Bad business practice! read more

I had heard good things about this place so whenever I needed to get an electric dryer, it was my first stop. I was ready to buy one immediately but I got there and the person working was unable to provide any information including the price. She told me her manager Liz could answer all my questions. How is there nobody in the store who can sell something there? I called Liz later in the day and never heard back. I ended up going to Direct Appliance to buy my dryer and they were awesome. read more

This company is incredibly inept. The technician was rude and unprofessional and didn't know what he was doing. The service fee was $119 for a ten minute appointment. He never took anything apart or gave us any definitive answers. We still have absolutely no idea what is wrong with our dryer. I wish I would've checked the yelp reviews before hiring this company! It is a shame that there are companies who run their business by taking advantage of people. A one star rating seems generous. I was not satisfied and wanted to talk to the owner, who screamed at me and refused to have a civil conversation. Unbelievable. read more

My front loading washing machine took its final breath last week and we called Crown. Crown was out to my house the next day, thankfully. The first time the Crown repair man came to my house he was here about 90 minutes and charged us around 240 just to look at it and diagnose the problem. He then informed me that my washer would need a new part because the other part had gone out and he would be ordering the part which was a pump - which cost 131.73 dollars and would be back to my house within 5-8 business days, holy moly that's a long time. So I wish that they had replacement parts in stock instead of having to order them. I am a clean freak, I do a lot of laundry, I can't express how crazy I've been going this past week without my washing machine it would have been nice not to wait so long. So the Crown repair guy is out now, it took 6 days for our part to come in and he is fixing it in a timely matter and even cleaned out our trap for the washer. He did do a lot of sighing while he was fixing my machine, I guess it was a lot of hard work but I'm not going to lie is a tad awkward. He is making me laugh though, saying stuff like "yippee and yayyy it's fixed!" Yup that's my sentiments exactly. He also noticed that my water lines were backwards...my hot was cold and my cold was hot despite the hose being connected to the right color. I noticed my laundry was hot on the cold cycle and couldn't figure out why! So he fixed that and then explained to me how to tell if the lines are correct even if they "look correct" they may not be. Anyway he just left and this trip out was 75 dollars for a total cost of 315 to replace my pump. I'm not going to lie I wanted to spend a few extra hundred and get a new one for that price but I was already 240 into it so it was too late, lol. Overall I am satisfied with Crown and will use them again if I need an appliance repaired. read more
