My boyfriend and I were visiting from out of town and love coming to Chinatown to support the local businesses! We stumbled upon Crown Bakery because we were craving something sweet to have with our coffee in the morning. We came in pretty late, probably around 7 pm and they were still stocked with goodies! Although some of their best sellers were running low, we were lucky and snagged the last taro custard donut (so delicious) and a red bean bun (yum). Since it was late, we decided not to eat our desserts yet and waited one whole day. The pastries stayed fresh and were still amazing. I highly recommend Crown Bakery as it gives a family feel (unlike corporate bakeries). Their pastries are unique and make me wish I purchased more for our trip back home. I love this place. I moved out of Las Vegas a few months ago and this is always on the top of my list when I return. My absolute favorite is Mr. Kim's Bun. I dream of this pastry. I grew up with my Nana's "raised cake" and this is what the bun part reminds me of. There are also walnuts and red beans in it and this amazingly whipped butter-like frosting holds it all together. I also love the coconut bun which is cloud-like in its delicate sweetness. I always grab a small bag of cream cheese cookies too. I cannot recommend this place enough. I miss it! read more

Wow! This place is on the second floor of the Korean shopping plaza... This place was so cute and cozy... the decor was like a little cafe... this place has my mom's favorite macha cookie which she can't get enough of... but yes i must admit they are really good... i was impressed as soon as i open the door there is this HUGE wedding cake in this looks like a china hutch... this place was small but clean... there was wall to wall deserts and pasties... everything was wrapped very conveniently... my favorite was the fried mochi balls it was so good... and these tiny flaky puff pastry bites... the walnut cake was interestingly good and i don't like nuts... lol... very nice people and good service... i see why this is one of my parents favorite places... now it's mine too... read more

Excellent value for bringin' home the goods to Hawaii! I was on a layover from back East and was looking for something different to bring back. Admittedly, most of their items are familiar to Hawaii folks but the quality is very high and the prices are very low! (Maybe I shouldn't mention that but WTH) Like everyone is saying the cream cheese rolls are amazing but there is a LOT of variety in this small place. This is a great place to stop by for some pastries or snacks to go. My bf and I came here to grab some of their yummy cakes/breads for breakfast over a weekend (without needing to sit at a restaurant). They have a variety of pastries/breads/cakes/cookies for you to choose from. We got the custard cream bun, red bean bun, madeleine cookies and a vanilla cream roll. The custard cream and red bean tasted great. The madeleine cookies were decent - I just prefer them without the lemon zesty flavor. Prices are decent. Items Selected: Green Tea Cookies Butter Bread Sweet Pecan Pie Rock Bun Mr. Kim Bun Ube Cream Choco-Honey Cake Located next to latenight stalwart Ichiza, occupying the East corner of the second floor at 4355 Spring Mountain Road, Crown Bakery had long been a place on the local to-do list and with dim sum at Ping Pang Pong proving less than exhilarating it was largely on a whim that the decision was made to stop in, a smiling young lady more than happy to answer several questions and even going so far as to offer a pair of complimentary cookies atop the half-dozen items self-selected to check out the store's wares. Most certainly no expert in Asian baked goods, a sweet tooth crafted in the Midwest far more attuned to American and European-styled pastry, it was with coffee in hand that a degustation of Crown's buns and breads was undertaken and starting off with the crispy matcha cookies teaming with chopped nuts the restrained use of sugar was immediately evident, a texture not far from Italian Biscotti while the flavor profile trended herbal and lightly creamy - each bite actually well paired to the java, and likely even more appropriate alongside a pot of tea. Attempting best to see flavors progress from mild to rich it was with one cookie set aside that sights were turned to the appropriately named "Butter Bread" and as much as placing butter atop milk bread filled with cream filling may seem a good idea the use of a whole pad that stood solid simply seemed unnecessary, the additional calories far better invested in crispy wheels loaded with pralines and sprinkled with sugar, the flavor still less 'sweet' than the Southern classic despite the title's description, but delicious just the same. Moving next to a dense orb denoted as "Rock Bread," suffice it to say there is probably no American item comparable to the amalgam of dried fruits, coconut, several types of nuts, and just enough flour to see it all bind tasted to date, and although a bit challenging to pull apart and eat the variety of flavors were exceedingly natural...perhaps even 'healthy,' a followup "Mr. Kim Bun" featuring a soft base laced in peanut butter and red bean paste obviously trending a bit more sugary though still quite mellow amidst the supple white base. Always a fan of purple yam, it was with good fortune that despite arriving a few hours after noon there was still one Ube Cream Bun left on the shelf, and with a light coat of spelt decorating the outside for texture the flavor was every bit as good as expected, a half quickly eaten while the rest was consumed shortly after tasting the cocoa-honey 'cake' that unfortunately proved a bit lackluster with texture not dissimilar to that of Wonderbread with neither flavor very pronounced. A bit hidden amidst one of Chinatown's busiest plazas, but featuring several novelties with low prices and the sort of service that one rarely associates with Spring Mountain Road, Crown Bakery is a place well worth exploring for those interested in Asian baked goods, a full exploration of the scene yet to be undertaken but the results thus far a promising start. read more

Almond cookies are legit, macarons are just okay (but they have several flavors), chocolate almond cake is flavorful, and the almond tarts are the closest moderately-healthy alternative to pecan pie. I'm on a baked-goods-with-nuts kick, can you tell? Friendly staff, open late, but irked that they have a $10 card minimum- I never carry cash, and should not be eating $10 worth of baked goods. I came here specifically for the patbingsu (AKA patbingsoo), the Korean shaved ice dessert that I'd seen pictures of before. It looks very much like the Filipino shaved ice dessert known as halo-halo ('mix-mix'). The patbingsu that I ordered came with red beans, kiwi, pineapple, strawberries with condensed milk drizzled over it: yum! Halo-halo may have different fruit, but the condensed milk and red bean ingredients are the same. I really enjoyed this dessert and will return to try the green tea ice cream version. The bakery itself has many pastries to choose from, as well. I had the banana sponge cake and vanilla macaron, the latter mostly because it looked like Hello Kitty. Neither of the items were overly sweet, which was a nice change from my donut addiction. The bakery has a seating area where you can hang out with your squad plus Christmas lights are still up to keep you in the holiday spirit past December. I've been here a few time. Not my most favorite bakery. The pastries always seem to be bland, especially the ones in the fridge. Nothing gets me coming back. I'm just always in the area always seeing how pretty the baked goods are. I eat at Ichiza and at Korean Garden a lot, so yeah, I'm up there for the most part. The service seemed a little rushed the last time I was there. I think it's because the only other people in the bakery were her friends. Once she rung us out, she quickly sat down at the table where her friends were. I think she thought we were going to leave right away, but no, we stayed. The only thing they have going for them is the cute ambiance and décor inside. For a small place, it has a good amount of seating. It's definitely comfortable inside. In conclusion, give it a chance. I love all of the stuffs I bought from them, I even came back the next day to buy some more for my flight and bring it back to my state (I'm not from Las Vegas). I've read some reviews before coming here and it was a right decision to check out this place. Pastries are fresh and tasty. I agree with Audrey T. Crown Bakery was worth every part of the walk in the rain & the cab ride from Circus Circus. Thank god for Audrey's GPS or else we'd be stuck in the plaza next door for God knows how long. Thankfully, Crown Bakery was conveniently located NEXT to the plaza we were in. Once inside, I immediately noticed the "Cuteness" of the store. The store reminds me of the bakery from the Korean drama "antique bakery" It's filled with baked goods lined up against the wall and spread out on the table top in middle of the room. There was also a cute little gingerbread house next to the cash register which I was really tempted to touch (but i resisted!). Even though it was way too cold for patbingsoo (shaved ice) we figured we better get it since we made that long trek over here just for it! The patbingsoo was pretty good but not as heavenly good as it would've been if we had consumed it on a hot summer day instead of a freezing winter night -__-, it had alot of fresh fruits in it and the owner was nice enough to add lots of condense milk at my request :) Their almond cookie is probably the best part of Crown Bakery! We came here due to the sheer fact that they had good reviews. My boyfriend wanted to get me a last minute birthday cake by midnight. Their selection of cakes were pretty, but the size and flavor selection were slim. There were about 8 cakes total - 3 small and 5 large. Between the chocolate mousse, tiramisu, sweet potato, mango mousse, and some other non-memorable flavor- we went with the mango mousse. The girl was friendly and offered us complimentary candles and also wrote me happy birthday on a small piece of chocolate to place on-top of the cake. We also grabbed a few pastry breads to try: coconut cream, taro donut(complimentary), mochi red bean bread (about $1 - $1.50) The coconut bread was good and the cream filling was not overly sweet and my boyfriend loved the taro donut. But honestly, I really didn't feel that the breads were fresh. The mochi red bean didn't hold well overnight and was rock hard the next day. Anything with cream or dairy, dries out and gets questionable when they stay out all day. Granted we came in late, it just wasn't fresh enough for my standards. I've been spoiled with 85 degree bakery ;( The small cake (about $18-20/ feeds about 4). It wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't great. It was bland! I didn't think a cake could be bland. It wasn't sweet at all which was unfortunate for a cake, the mango flavor was faint, and the glazed berries on top of the cake were extremely sour to the point that they were inedible. The highlight of this mango mousse cake was that it was pretty to look at and it was light and airy, as mousse should be. The regrettable part of my birthday cake is that we only took one slice but we both didn't want to eat the rest. So it's pretty little self is just sitting in our fridge right now - the graveyard for inedible cakes. Prologue: A truly good Asian bakery is something we're unfortunately lacking pretty much everywhere in southern Arizona. Our trips to Las Vegas always include a visit to Chinatown and we had heard very good things about this bakery so we made  certain stop in. The Plot: We browsed around for several minutes and selected eight distinctly different items, each more delightful and delectable than the next. The Scene: We know we're in a good bakery when, after browsing for a few minutes, we've decided that we must have one of each item on display. Such was the case for this shop and it required both determination and will power to narrow all the choices down to our final selections. My girlfriend, who is a native of mainland China, commented about the sincerity that went into the preparation of these baked goods. The buns, in particular, were soft and moist, not the slightest bit oily, with a very generous amount of red bean or custard filling. The Rest of the Story: Although this bakery might not necessarily considered to be devoutly traditional their products are most certainly authentic. Crown Bakery was totally worth the cab ride and the walk in the rain. We had just finished dinner at Mother's Korean Grill and decided to have shaved ice for dessert at Crown. We hadn't a clue where Crown was and almost gave up when the handy dandy GPS on my phone told me that we were only 200 feet away. So, we turned to our left and lo and behold, there was Crown! We were ecstatic...well, I can't speak for everyone, but I certainly was! It was pretty early for dessert, but I didn't care. I had come all the way from SF for some of Crown's famous shaved ice and almond cookies. The interior of the shop is so adorable! I love the way that the baked goodies are stored in baskets on the shelves. The shop was all festive for Christmas too! We ordered a shaved ice with extra condensed milk and grabbed some almond cookies and green tea cookies to bring home. The shaved ice was alright; it would have been better on a hot, summer day. Be sure to sample the cookies before you purchase. We went too late in the evening and they ran out of most samples, so we took the empty boxes as a sign that they were delicious. Not quite. The almond cookies were to die for; think Asian Laceys without the chocolate. I brought some of the almond cookies back to SF, but they are so delicate that they were crushed by the time I got home. The green tea cookies, on the other hand, were a little too bitter for our tastes. The green tea flavor was too overbearing, in my opinion. I also wanted to try the fried mochi, but they ran out. The owner is really nice and pretty easy to talk to. My adorable two-year-old niece went today and she was able to score some freebies from him. The owner has a very dry sense of humor and can be quite entertaining to talk to. There's a 10min for credit Cards here so bring cash. The pastries are decently priced and like delicious. I got some cupcakes for my friends birthday and he gave me free candles. For myself, I got an order of their redbean mochi, which unfortunately, was a bit too mushy. The texture of the mochi was chewy enough and it broke down too easily. The redbean paste was good though, and wasn't over sweet to the palette. The dining/lounge area is tight but full of cozy seating and table options to relax. In the back half of the shop they have a table full of wrapped goodies and the walls are lined with bookshelves full of treats as well. There are so many different items to choose from and it all looks delicious! Then you get to the cold case that hold drinks, cakes, and macaron cookies! The chalk board menu above the case had what we were looking for. Korean shaved ice! Yum!!! Nicely priced for a great size bowl and only $1 extra for ice cream or fruit on top. I ordered a variety of breads and sweets and was not disappointed in any of them. The cookie crumb mochi bread was soooo soft and delicious. It was addicting to chew on for its texture. It's a Korean bakery plus cafe where there's a cute corner for customers to sit and enjoy the various offerings, it looks much nicer than the 2 Chinese bakeries in the half mile radius, BUT the baked goods are not as good. At least not to me. I'll admit I prefer Chinese style bakery over Korean style, there are more savory items available and the sweet ones are never too sweet.
