A great family owned Bakery shop in Chinatown, the same plaza as ranch 99. Good parking, but this bakery does get very crowded, especially before lunchtime. They have a great array of delicious, baked goods, from baked or steamed barbecue pork baos, barbecue chicken baos, numerous baked goods from cheese buns, sweet, red, bean buns, cheese buns, pineapple or cream buns, moon cakes from lotus to sweet red bean paste, cookies, beautiful cakes, that look frosted with whipped cream and fruit. I love their cakes, very light, not too sweet and a mixture of fruit and light whipped cream. Their buns, barbecue pork buns the baked ones are delicious as well as a barbecue chicken buns. Their tiramisu cake is delicious. We get that all the time. Their bakery shop is full of numerous variety of baked goods, cookies, cakes. I've never had anything bad here. Oh my gosh! I've been coming here for well over twenty years now! This is my favorite Asian bakery. I've been eagerly anticipating the Filipino bakery, but it's not open yet (Me be like that old Mervyn's ad, "Open, Open, Open). That one is at Sahara at Buffalo. Pineapple buns are $3.00 to $3.20 each, there are several kinds of pineapple buns. There are taro buns, my absolute favorite. Hubby's favorite is the coconut bun. Stringbean got the blueberry cream cheese muffin. So, we went here for the saturday before Mother's Day, in the morning, get there early for the best selection; ever since I became a mother, we celebrate Mother's Day early with my mom and my mother-in-law. The parking lot was empty! The clerk that assisted us was very nice. When we got there, they were busy stocking the platters. I got the last taro, but the huge pineapple buns certainly caught my attention. They were huge!!! Twelve items and it was $38. This was a bargain nowadays, cheaper than going out to breakfast. The mocha rolls are excellent. The cakes are excellent, but now are at over $4.00 a slice. If you are celebrating, something special, of course, you can splurge. It's really hard to find a good Chinese bakery in town but Diamond does a pretty good job. What I primarily come here for is their BBQ Pork Buns (both baked and steamed) and their egg tarts. The BBQ Pork buns have good flavor and an acceptable amount of filling. The bun is soft and it's something I get on every visit. The egg tarts are also pretty good. The crust is flaky and the filling has good flavor. If you don't eat it warm from their case, chilling it in the fridge as a cold tart also works if you like that kind of thing. I do! Their cocktail bun I find is a little shallow in the amount of filling, but when you taste the filling, it is good! The Pineapple Bun has an option with custard and this one is better than just the non-filled version. The bakery isn't cheap but then again, most places are several dollars per item anyhow! read more

Credit cards require a $5 minimum purchase, however, and each bun was $2.90ish, so it worked out for me. We stopped in to get a few sweets for later, after having lunch and picking up some boba around the corner. It was kind of an odd experience with it feeling like being watched. The two young ladies working the counter just stood there, leaning on the counter, waiting for us. They seemed really annoyed about us being there but it could be that they were just annoyed to be working on a nice Saturday (it did seem like the other older woman working was scolding them at one point.) After I left a tip in the jar, I actually got a smile and huge thank you from one of them, so there's that. The place seemed pretty clean, even if it was a bit old. The selection of items was a bit lacking for me. I'm not sure if it was because they sell out in the morning on a Saturday or if they just don't do much business so they make less than they would before. We did get a few of our favorite things. My husband and I decided to stop by this bakery since we were going to pick up some milk tea from No. 1 Boba Tea. I was greeted by one of the employees behind the counter when we entered. We ended up purchasing: Taro Bun, $2.85- This bun had 4 small pieces that you can tear away from each other. My husband and I each had two pieces and shared with our little girl dog. Each piece had plenty of taro. There were also slivered almonds as well. The bread was soft and wasn't too sweet, which was nice. I would buy this item again. Steam Chicken Bun, $2.95- We consumed this bun the next day, after heating it up in the microwave with a damp paper towel. We were both a bit disappointed with this bun because there was hardly much filling inside, the bun was mostly just bread. I wouldn't recommend purchasing this. Green Bean Sesame Ball, $2.65- I decided to get this and ate it within the hour of purchase. This sesame ball was good and best consumed fresh. The shell of the sesame ball itself was just perfect and had a nice chew. I liked the filling, as it wasn't too sweet. It was also packed with plenty of green bean. We usually go to California's location. But we will stop by here when we are in town. Service here is not as good though. They offer variety of buns, steamed buns, egg tarts and more. I had low expectations because it looked super thick and it was $4 for one of these, but it turned out pretty good. It's very soft, has a lot of winter melon including chunks and a ton of sesame seeds. I don't like it this chunky usually, but I guess it works here because I just chew the chunks with the seeds. I was visiting from LA and I think this bakery is over priced and the bread was not fresh at all . I was expecting to see the pineapple buns which taste nothing like the ones in Chinatown LA . The ones here are soft and fresh . You can't just eat one that are delicious. The bread at this bakery l is $3 and over . I spent $20 for old bread not knowing that there is a 85 degrees bakery across the street with fresh bread and was less expensive. While I've been here for quite some time before a lot of other bakeries have opened, Diamond Bakery has your essentials such as egg tarts, and various cakes you can order. While the place has been opened for quite a long time, not much has changed over the years aside from the portion sizes being much smaller and the service being lackluster at best. You don't really get a greeting when going in, but the pastries do smell nice!! Though unfortunately on a couple of my recent visits, the quality had seem to go down letalone some pastries have little to no filling like it used to be jam packed. Overall as of now I would say this place is a solid 3 stars. It's a bit pricey for what you get but they're well stocked and parking is nice given the fact that it's right in heart of China town! This USED to be our favorite place for pork bao (Hawaii calls it manapua) but they have gone downhill so bad since Covid. Used to be so much meat at filling in the Jin dui (sesame balls) but look at these pictures of what we bought today. This is UNACCEPTABLE!!! Very disappointing to show up and your cake not ready or even done. Went in Saturday to place an order for Sunday. I show up cakes not even done!When they took my order they dated it for Monday. She proceeds to tell me she'll have it ready in 20 minutes, mind you it's not even started. I said fine I'll wait. It was a round 8inch strawberry with fruit on top. I go back to pick it up AND I SHOULD'VE TAKEN A PICTURE TO SHOW WHAT HHEY WERE GIVING ME. A round white cake no design, I didn't want colorful flowers and that's why I asked for fruit but a plain white round cake no design with strawberries sticking up. This cake was so important this time around because the person I was getting it for loves cakes, and the his bday was just ruined because they didn't pay attention to their error as far as the date and then when they went to make it. That might not make sense if you haven't been to Diamond Bakery :) So the main component is baked goods, and I seemed to have been introduced to the BBQ Bun and just became elated on those! There are also other products- and people I've visited with have purchased those products, I personally just have no reason. I Love the BBQ Bun. End Story :) I've seen macaroons, breads, and a plethora of other tasty looking items, but Love is Love :) Hope you enjoy a diamond as much as I do! I was excited to find a Chinese bakery but This is anything but authentic. Milk tea was just weak tea and fresh milk, instead of the traditional strong black tea with evaporated or condensed milk. To the owner, please google Chinese milk tea as us consumers deserve what we pay and expect. $3 Baked BBQ pork bun is skimpy on tasteless filling with funny after taste dough, which half ended up in the trash (I normally can choked down some unappetizing food but this is an exception) . Tiny egg tart with tiny tasteless thick hard shell (did they not used any sugar?) and ditto on the egg filling. Perhaps we were unlucky and got the 3 worst items in the bakery?
