    Meat Jun

If you're from the islands, and craving local food, this is the spot! My fave was absolutely the garlic chicken. I also been having a meat jun craving. It was good but I didn't really like the dipping sauce it came with. Fried noodles was ok, needed some shoyu. Portions are pretty big. We shared everything but still had leftovers.

Poke Nachos (8/10) & 2 entree order katsu dynamite (6/10) and furikake Korean chicken (6/10)

Came here on a Sunday, late lunch. When I got there, there was quite a lot of people there probably finishing up their lunch. Small, cute place. The guy who took my order was very nice. I had ordered the poke nachos and 2 entree meal with katsu dynamite and furikake Korean chicken. Honest review because y'all deserve the truth. The poke nachos was pretty good I'd say 8/10. The chips stayed crunchy! If it wasn't so saucey I'd might rate it a 9/10. But because they drenched it in too much sauce it got too sweet & I couldn't finish the rest. Had to pick out all the chips that had too much sauce. I'm would order this again but maybe I'd ask for light sauce or sauce on the side. Both the katsu dynamite and the furikake chicken, I'd give a 6/10. Honestly maybe even a 5/10 They both were too saucey. It wasn't enjoyable at all. I would NOT get these again. However, I would come back & give this place another shot but most definitely will be try something else next time.

Absolutely delicious food! I ordered the combo, and the katsu was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Sauces that were included had a nice tang for one of them and the other was a sweet tonkatsu sauce. The meat jun was seasoned perfectly - salt and a lil sweet with tender meat. My friend ordered the shrimp which were gigantic and seasoned well. We also ordered the milk pudding which was a nice treat to end the meal. Service was quick and friendly. Portions are huge. Will def be coming back again and again!

Grinds 2 Da Max on Russell and Rainbow makes incredibly amazing Hawaiian food! Inside is a casual and inviting atmosphere with upbeat R&B music playing. Dining area is small but there's adequate seating for a table, by the window, and along the wall. Menu offers a great selection of chicken, shrimp, steaks, salmon, ahi, pork, as well as Hawaiian plates, island favorites, fried noodles, and poke. I ordered my go-to for Dynamite Chicken Katsu (mini, $13.52), its crispy breaded chicken, meat is tender and moist, has amazing wasabi aioli and spicy sauce drizzle, very savory and wonderfully delicious! Served with tasty crab potato salad and kimchi. Also had Fried Noodles (mini, $7.28), the egg noodles are delicious, topped with chopped scallions and kamaboko (Japanese fish cake), it's really good! Spam Musubi ($4.16) is tasty! It does need sauce and there are condiments like soy sauce and hot sauce available on the table. For a lovely treat, they make the best Japanese Milk Pudding, it's delightful and not too sweet! I ordered a regular ($5.20) and tried Ube flavor ($5.20), both are yummy! Ube flavor is so good! The milk pudding has a delicate, silky, bouncy texture, and comes with a sweet Japanese syrup. The milk pudding on its own is so YUM! The syrup itself is very sweet, so only pour a little bit. They also have fun cookies on display locally sourced from The Cookie Bar. I tried Crème Brûlée Cookie ($4.50), it's a huge sugar cookie with a beautiful crisp glaze and is very sweet. MacDaddy Cookie ($4.50) is excellent, it has white chocolate chips and macadamia nuts, this one taste great! Service from Koltyn and Zadus is very kind, welcoming, polite, and friendly!

Very friendly staff from when we walked in. Asked if we could briefly bring our dogs in while ordering and waiting for our food and they were very welcoming and accommodating for that. Heard good things about this place and wanted to try lots of things so we got two combo plates. First combo was the garlic chicken with shoyu poke. Being from Hawaii this was as close to home as you can get on the mainland. The chicken was nice and crispy on the outside while soft on the inside. The poke was spot on as if it was flown in from Hawaii. Second combo was the ahi katsu and meat jun. Katsu wasn't too crispy since there was a lot of sauce but the flavor was pretty good and ahi was cooked well. The meat jun was soft and seasoned well too. Overall, great to have this place when you want local Hawaii style foods as someone who is from Hawaii. Good variety and everything on the menu was pretty good and very filling. Definitely felt the kanak attack after we finished eating!

Lemon butter garlic shrimp and garlic chicken combo plate with mixed greens (they were out of kimchi that day).

Visiting from Atlanta and was craving Hawaiian. The restaurant is small with only three tables and a bunch of counter seating so not great for large parties. I got the garlic shrimp and garlic chicken combo plate. They were out of kimchi that day, but even so, I dumbly decided to get the mixed greens instead of the crab potato salad. The portion of greens is super tiny without the side of kimchi so I should have gotten the potato salad. Alas. Food came out quickly and everything was piping hot. Generous portions and cooked perfectly. They don't skimp on the garlic for the shrimp so make sure you have breath mints. Would have loved to come here with friends so I could try everything on the menu.

Hello Yelpers! Yes, this review is a little late... but the food is still living rent-free in my head. Grinds 2 Da Max (Russell) does not miss. My Hawaiian plate was next-level: massive laulau, Kalua pig, crab salad, and Hawaiian-style poke -- all ONO. My wife crushed her garlic chicken too. Easy parking, great location, super friendly service. Long story short: order anything, eat everything, leave happy :) :) :)

    Lemon Garlic Shrimp

We ordered the beef and chicken teriyaki with mac salad, along with the lemon garlic shrimp. I'll start with the positive, the presentation was very good. The plates looked fresh and appetizing, but unfortunately, looks can be deceiving. The meal didn't live up to our expectations. The beef was overcooked and tough, and we ended up throwing away more than half of it. The chicken was just okay, comparable to what you'd get at L&L, but nothing memorable. We also received potato salad instead of the mac salad we ordered. The potato salad wasn't very good, and it was disappointing to get the wrong side. Another odd choice was the amount of rice. The teriyaki meats were already served over a bed of rice, yet the plate also came with an additional scoop of rice, which was unnecessary and resulted in a lot of food going to waste. The lemon garlic shrimp was definitely the highlight of the meal. The shrimp had great flavor and was the best item we ordered. However, that plate also came with far more rice than needed. We came in with high expectations based on the reviews, but left disappointed overall. I personally don't see this as a 4.5-star restaurant. It makes me wonder whether some of the glowing reviews came from friends or family because our experience was nowhere near that level. I'm giving it 3 stars because the shrimp was good and the presentation was appealing, but the rest of the meal fell short. Hopefully, this was just an off day.

Surprisingly a letdown. I had gone to their old location on Charleston before and that experience had a great impact so I had expectations that unfortunately was not met. Nothing was particularly bad. I got the dynamite chicken katsu, which had more sauce than chicken, and the lau lau, which had more leaves than pork. The prices also had gone up significantly while the amount of food went down so that felt uneven. As I had ordered the food to-go, I don't have much to say on service other than it was good. Maybe it was an off day because it is a bit a letdown if the quality had gone down, and I don't know if I would go back.

The interior is super welcoming with bright and lovely decor of Hawaii and plenty of seating. Their music is a bit of a louder volume but it is also calming. The temperature inside was incredibly cold while I waited for my food. The cashier who rang me out was super friendly and provided me with a great recommendation of the Teri steak and ginger poke combo plate, which comes with potato crab salad and two scoops of rice. They also have a good selection of trendy Hawaiian snacks and drinks as well. The Teri steak was super flavorful and tender. The rice was abundant but a bit gummy. The garlic poke was fresh and bright in flavor. I would highly recommend this place for both its meat options and its poke from this experience.

I've tried multiple Hawaiian food joints over the years in LV and had the fortune of enjoying Hawaiian food while on vacation in the Islands as well. G2 da Max is among the best I've had on the mainland. The prices are reasonable and their assorted menu offers all the main hits. Just wished they had a place closer to the N side of town.

The oxtail soup was really good: the broth seemed like it has a good amount of shoyu in it (it was dark), and had really nice beef flavor. There were also some shiitake mushrooms, which added to the umami, and fresh cilantro which, paired with the grated ginger, really complemented the savory elements. The oxtails were super tender and plentiful. The meat was well seasoned and fell off the bone. I've eaten a lot of oxtail soup, and this was really good. The limu poke was also solid. The limu was a nice touch: it's not as frequent to see it on the mainland, and I like the smoky flavor it imparts on the poke. The taro turnover was a revelation. It was so good it didn't make it to photos. The pastry crust was flakey, the taro was warm and sweet, and the Carmel drizzle was really nice. It does take 20 minutes to get the turnover, but I think it's worth it.

Things were still getting together but I have faith they will get back to their normal flow. Food was tasty as always. Had the beef ribs and the kalua pig today. The Kalua pig was a very tasty version. One of the better ones I've had in town for my taste. Not too smoky, felt like it was roasted for a long time. The meat was still intact but tender. Ribs were as they always are. The only thing today, was that the boxes didn't feel as full as they normally do. Only got 4 ribs today and they weren't all that meaty. The pig dish wasn't full to the brim either. Also, prices have gone up from the menu, so seeing higher prices (totally understandable) and less food was a little disappointing. Service was friendly for the most part, but be ready for longer waits. Maybe it was because of the move, but it was a 15-20 min wait today. The ribs are still the best in town, I'm hoping the small portion was just a one off.
