I was also pleasantly surprised that they brought me the left over fabric, from my re-upholstery job. It is not too much, but it is enough for me to take right back to them, and order a few small accent pillows to match the daybed. (Which I plan to do soon.) They could have discarded the fabric or made pillows to sell in their shop, and I would never have known the difference. The honesty meant a lot to me. And speaking of fabric ... they have zillions of beautiful choices, in all price ranges. They were very patient with me and I am a person who does thorough research and takes her time, before I finally make a decision. I will admit a lot of places would have likely become annoyed or frustrated with me, for taking so much time and visiting the showroom to look through samples, over and over and over again, requesting pricing. But they were very kind and pleasant and willing to check pricing for me on many fabrics, many times. I also felt they charged a very fair price, especially considering the craftsmanship and turn around time and their willingness to do the pick up and drop off. The turn around time was so much faster than I expected. It was the holidays and I had to request they hold the daybed a few extra weeks for me, due to my extra traveling and holiday activities. True to form, they were very accommodating and understanding. If you find this review, consider yourself DONE looking for a quality re-upholstery business. 5 Star Custom Upholstery has earned a customer for life, in me. I brought an old Fairfield leather office chair that I paid $25 at a second hand store. I knew the brand very well, so I knew its worth (try $1,500-$3,500 easily). I saw past the ripped seat, and I thought that it would be less expensive to have the seat re-leathered than to purchase a new chair in the same brand which is true in theory; however, the price of the leather panels were far beyond what I wanted to pay for a chair that I only wanted to place into my work office space, so I didn't want to invest a lot of money. Alex helped me search through fabric swatches and I found what I thought was unique and went with my theme of traditional elegance with a touch of interesting movements in that space. Viola! Mag's had what I was looking for, and Alex gave me price that was fair. He told me I could pay when I returned and I left with his word that he would call me in a couple of weeks. True to his word, Alex called me and I dropped in to pick up my baby. I was so pleasantly surprised and pleased when I saw the beautiful new seat cushion. Alex is simply a wonderful artist with a eye for perfection because he added a little more padding to provide the right depth the seat needed to the final sewing. I almost did not recognize the cushion if it weren't for the fabric. Alex and his genius hands made this seat cushion sparkle. Our pieces look better than ever, and LA's attention to detail is incredible! We paid an extra fee to have the furniture picked up and delivered by her friendly delivery team and it was well worth it. Because I was not given anything in writing, I checked back twice both in person and on the phone to reconfirm the date of service. A pick up time of 4pm was confirmed. The day before I received a call from someone I could barely understand and was told the pick up would now be at noon the next day. Two men arrived in a van and took my sofa and the expensive, custom ordered fabric, along with a check. Later the same day the son of the owners at Ace called to make sure I was home because they were on the way to pick up my sofa! I was shocked to learn they had no knowledge of the earlier pick up! After much confusion I was told that they had indeed sent someone else to pick up my sofa and were sub contracting the work without my knowledge or consent. They would not tell me who these people were or where their shop was located, but assured me the work would be completed on time and to my satisfaction. The sofa was delivered yesterday and I'm extremely dismayed at the quality of the work. Seams along the piping are now puckered where they were once smooth. My beautiful, $95/yard fabric and $750 in labor wasted. Do NOT trust these people with your furniture.

So, I said OK. I bought more fabric at another place to ensure the next purchase of fabric wouldn't be lost. When I took that in, they told me they had no record of my buying fabric or having a credit. Then, I showed them their paperwork and the receipt from American Express which I had taken a photo of on my phone. They told me that they did not believe it because it was not the yellow piece of paper they had given me originally but just a picture of it. I was OK with their losing my fabric. I am not OK with them not honoring the financial agreement. I asked to be reimbursed. They refused to do even this. So, I'm taking this up with American Express. One other thing is I asked them about their recordkeeping. I was told they didn't really keep records. I explained they needed to in order to file taxes and then to keep the records in case of an audit. I was told they didn't bother with any of that. It all seemed very unorganized and suspicious to me as well as my adult son who was with me.
