Honesty, integrity, professionalism are mentioned over and over in the reviews and for good reason..... it is true. I worked in the automotive parts business in Orange County for 26 years before retiring last year. I have seen it all, shops ripping people off, performing unnecessary repairs, charging for work not performed,etc etc etc. Transmission work is especially prone to these kinds of scams as the problems are usually hidden deep inside the trans and you are at the mercy of the person behind the counter. In my experience a majority of shops will simply say you need to replace the transmission instead of taking the time to analyze the issue. When my wife's 2007 Explorer suddenly started making a horrendous noise, I thought Oh Boy, that's not good, big $$ for sure. I called Ed and he explained while it could be a major failure, there were other not as drastic things it might be. After Ed inspected it, he called and explained the issue and went over all the options (new part, used part etc) and pricing for each. We made a decision and Ed had it completed super fast. After getting a suspiciously high quote ($4K) from a more local place after almost no examination of the car, I got a rec for CVT and managed to coax the ailing car down there - 30m out of our way. Like many of the other reviews, we had an extraordinary experience all round. Ed listened to us describe the problems, the ODB code that the car emitted, and some of the possible problems that googling had told us. He promised a diagnosis by the next day, but in fact had the car repaired by the afternoon (for 1/10th the amount that the other place had estimated). The place is one of those rare places where customers matter, honesty is still a virtue, and long term satisfaction is key. Fantastic and increasingly rare to have a place like this. Ed did my 1st trans job on 87 bmw 325 that's still running beyond his warranty period. I needed trans rebuilt job on my 99 lexus rx300...a pricey job. times are tough for me right now and pricing was important along with quality and trust. after some research and several estimates, i chose Ed again...why ? it was not pricing...Ed price was between low bid in fullerton and high bid in costa mesa. i chose Ed because i see an honest man and character...straight talking and man i trust. i believe the trans is most important car function next to brakes for family and safety. that's all i wanted to say and hope that helps you.... read more

Just two days before we were to list our 14 year old Honda for sale, the check engine light came on (codes indicated a likely transmission issue). The car was still running well, but definitely slipping every now and then. Not wanting to drop thousands on a car we were selling, we figured we would have to donate it or get virtually nothing as a trade-in. On a whim, we contacted Ed (who had worked on another one of our vehicles). He suggested putting the car on Craigslist making sure to disclose the transmission issue. He said that someone would want it. Well, within 4 hours of listing our car, it was sold to a happy buyer who had his own contact for rebuilding transmissions. Wow. Just...wow. Ed isn't just a hell of a mechanic, he's the kind of guy we need more of in this society. Honesty, integrity, generosity, and selflessness are just a few of the words that come to mind. Ed took in my 4Runner after another shop failed to fix the transmission (a $3800 rebuild). He was under no obligation to repair the other shop's botched work, but he did anyway for one simple reason: he wants to help. It ended up being a way bigger and tougher job than he or I could have imagined. I know it was a massive amount of work for him to fix it (and I'm sure quite an expense), but the whole time he never asked for more money, he never gave up and told me to send it back to the original shop, he kept me updated with phone calls every other day, and he apologized multiple times about how long it was taking. But he had nothing to apologize for, because he was fixing the problem no one else could, never once complaining along the way. And he did fix it - my truck is running great now! When I heard that dreaded sound coming from the underside of my 2007 Suburban, I knew it was time. At almost 200,000 miles, the patient was going to need a new transmission. I was prepared though and knew exactly who to have it towed to without hesitation. I had been recommended by Tucker Tire about 2 yrs ago to see Ed for any transmission issues. I needed him for something minor at that time and was so impressed by his work and his honesty, that I knew when 'the big one' came, exactly where to take my truck. Sure enough, Ed remembered me and was waiting for us when the tow truck arrived. We dropped it off on Wednesday and he had it ready on Friday about noon. Like everybody else says, Ed at Crown Valley transmission is honest and fair. My Mercedes transmission went out, so I took it to a Mercedes specialist mechanic. He told me Mercedes wouldn't sell the parts separately, so I would have to replace the whole transmission. Then he said I couldn't install a used one, because there was a computer involved, and Mercedes wouldn't allow used ones to be reprogrammed to match my VIN number. So the price would be $5,500! Gulp. Before spending that much cash, I shopped around, which is how I met Ed at Crown Valley transmission. Long story short: thanks to Ed's depth of knowledge and honesty, I ended up paying only $1,600 to get PART of the transmission replaced, rather than the whole thing, and now my car runs fine. Wow! I went to Ed (recommended to me by another garage that couldn't meet my repair needs) and Ed apologized that he couldn't help me with my car because it was a hybrid - he said I needed to go to the dealer. I then asked him who to go to since I'm new to the area. Ed took the time to suggest a few places and then suggested we go over the online reviews together to make sure that I would go to a good place. Who does that? All this just as an act of kindness and consideration so I get good service (at no profit to him!). My car is fixed! After reading all the positive reviews I took my '05 Volvo here for an evaluation. The transmission was shifting hard and sometimes would freewheel when it downshifted going up a grade. Ed suggested a valve-body rebuild, which was much more reasonable than replacing or rebuilding the whole tranny. The car has a new lease on life with 129k miles and I'm a happy customer. Thanks Ed, My Toyota Tacoma has been dragging its butt for a few years now and I've taken it in to dealer complaining about it and they couldn't find a problem? Took it to Ed and he couldn't find the problem said, it was running better than most trucks he's seen. Problem I had was it started having a problem where it didn't seem to go into gear all of a sudden. It's done this twice now on very cold days maybe two weeks apart. Only lasted for 5 - 10 minutes? Then it was back to normal? Took to Ed had him look at it and of course worked for him too! He recommended tune up which I figured better than it conking out on me again? He must of whacked it with his magic hammer a few time and now my truck is really working again! Took my dogs for a walk and jumped on 5 to go home. I was on the on ramp looked back and in the time to look back and check traffic and look forward again I was in the middle lane doing over 65! Let me tell you my truck feels like a new kid on the block again! Rain's & Cold have come a gone and he's still flying down the road! You have a problem with your transmission take it to Ed! We had a VW with an oil leak. Our AAA repair shop in San Clemente told us that the main seal was bad. When they looked at it they told us that it actually had leaks from three different locations and would cost over $3000 and two weeks to repair them. I took it to another garage we trust, and they told us to take it to a transmission guy to look at. We found Crown Valley online and based on the reviews brought it in for Ed to look at. Within a couple minutes Ed diagnosed the problem as a leak from the vacuum pump and showed me exactly where it was coming from. Ed said he did not do that type of repair but would have Marvins Auto Repair look at it and call me. Albert from Marvins called and told me he could replace the vacuum pump by the next day and my problem would be fixed for less that $1000, and that is exactly what happened. The car runs great and no leaks! It was so nice to find some honest guys that really do take care of their customers and are not trying to take advantage of them! read more
