I have been to Crow's South Plaza location multiple times and always had a great experience, but I was greatly disappointed by my initial visit today to the Waldo location; and it tainted Crow's entire reputation because of some horrendous customer service. Today was my first day using a cane after weeks of weaning myself off of crutches and I was moving pretty slow. As I approached the counter I was looking for a seasonal drink menu to see what unique beverage could kick-start my afternoon. I didn't see one anywhere and asked if they had any seasonal offerings from the barista. She looked puzzled and annoyed and said "here is our syrup list". I stated that I was looking for more of a seasonal drink menu or featured beverages not on the regular menu that most every coffee house offers. In an exasperated tone, she turned around and pointed at the main menu board with all the basics and replied; "This is what we serve". Wow! I politely ordered my go-to cortado for here and left a tip. I then hobbled over to the nearest table to the pick-up counter and waited. A few minutes later the same barista brought the drink to the counter, looked at me an entire 4 feet away and shouted "cortado" and walked away. Wow again! If I was in the business of customer service and receiving tips I would be damn sure to take the beverage to the customer when they're 48 inches away and the shop wasn't busy; regardless of customer mobility issues. I have never asked for a tip back, but I sure felt like it at that moment. My Cortado was tasty, but not enough to remove the foul taste in my mouth from blatant customer disrespect. I really like this location of Crow's coffee, they have solid specialty drinks and drip coffee is always solid. They probably have my favorite Americano in the city, though it could be a bit stronger. One thing I would like to point out is how good their scones are, I dream about their rosemary parmesan variety at least once a day. I'm not sure if those are made in house or if they source them from somewhere, but either way they are very good and I love to snag one when I stop by to grab a cup. All the barista's are very nice and easy to talk to, and the interior of the location is very welcoming and cozy. I've started making it a Sunday tradition to go in and read from one of their lounging chairs for a couple of hours while having a bite to eat and a few cups of coffee, it's a new favorite place for me. I can't say whether or not it's a all-time great coffee spot for everyone, but for me having it so close is super convenient and nice, and the solid coffee and staff interactions make this my go to. In the future, I would love to see more of a dark roast bean be available for me to have. read more

This location has a free parking lot across the street with some street parking directly in front. It is a medium sized location with table and individual seats as well. It has a lot of natural light. The service was great, we asked if there were gluten free or vegan options and they took the time to find a place close by. The coffee itself was really good. It was a bit expensive at $9 with tax but I did enjoy every sip. I got the 20 oz house made vanilla with honey cinnamon syrup and almond milk latte. read more

I always enjoy Crow's well enough, and found myself in the area to change it up from the south Plaza location. The design + vibe + staff here are all great. I just got a black coffee and have to say, it was...lacking? I noticed they had signs for Post Coffee and used to be Messenger so maybe there was a change. Either way, it sort of tasted like hot water. A bit bummed because coffee has gotten so damn expensive that I hope it hits it out of the park when I do venture out. Ordered my wife a chai latte with oatmilk and she said it was really good. That's always a staple at Crow's IMO. I have visited Crows Coffee (Waldo location) atleast half a dozen times in the past couple of months. The iced lattes are pretty good here, I like to order them with either vanilla or honey cinnamon syrup. The service here is reliable as the coffee has been consistently great everytime I've ordered and the staff has always been friendly. Their coffee is a bit more on the pricey side but I can justify coming here because of their consistency. Never had a bad experience. They also offer a variety of pastries at a reasonable price--I really like their muffins. The cafe is a nice place to study or meet up with friends as there is ample seating and the music isn't too loud to concentrate or to quiet where you can't talk. I also like how there is an option for outdoor seating. The indoor decor is pretty on theme with the name of the cafe, lots of art with crows. They had the windows lifted, plaza lights overhead shining, and the sweet smell of espresso stirring to complete the ambiance. What I ordered: while there was a plethora of pastries and coffee flavorings. I went with my tried and true...the sugar-free latte with almond milk. Believe it or not, this simple order will immediately tell me if I'm going to be a repeat visitor or not. Crows coffee passed the test! You could taste the warm, chocolatey notes of their coffee with the steamed milk giving it the perfect touch of froth. Caffeine Queen Palace Crows Coffee I used to be a Waldo native before a recent move to the mid-plaza area and Crows brought back nostalgic memories of visiting the Crows located on UMKC campus as well as, The Coffee Girls which used to occupy this Crows location. I am in love with the open air concept that Crows has here in Waldo as opposed to its original UMKC outpost, on a warm day you can't beat the natural sunlight the airy design Crows provides but, the size of the establishment makes it cozy and a quiet workspace. I used to frequent this space, now Crows, before when it was Coffee Girls and have always found the quiet spot warm, inviting, and convenient- with ample parking able to be found during the daytime. I also used to be a regular at the first outpost of Crows Coffee pretty much on UMKC campus and found myself really enjoying the later addition of beer and wine being served, sorry no alcohol at the Waldo Crows however, it doesn't need it. This Crows Coffee benefits instead from an open air concept that allows you natural breeze and sunlight on a balmy day as well as modern decor that renders a quiet serene workspace. I appreciate when a coffee spot includes a variety of dairy milk substitutes that are not just soy and Crows does just this. I am partial to to the neutral as opposed to nutty flavor oat milk brings to my go-to summer staple a spicy iced chai. There is also a london fog tea latte on the menu something I highly appreciate being advertised, though most java joints can and should be able to execute on for you, Crows version is up there with my all time favorite fog from Kaldis. Stop by this airy outpost of a KC original coffee shop if you are trying to avoid the hustle and bustle of city campus life and instead seek solace in the newer suburban location of Crows where the staff is friendly, not pushy or rushed, and the drinks are handcrafted with care and gusto. read more

After years of doing things well, this place has gone into the toilet. Will someone please open a bakery as good as Barker 1900 or Wheatfields that exist in Lawrence? I got the iced caramel, vanilla latte and was pretty impressed with it. It was very smooth and creamy with the coffee. The is one of the better places I've been to in town and will probably visit their other location more due to the convenience. I saw a cookie in the case that was very tempting so I decided to give it a try. I wish there were more chocolate in it but other than that, it was good. They facility was very clean despite being very busy. They have lots of seating in a small space but you felt like you had enough room to feel comfortable while enjoying your dessert and coffee. The service was lukewarm, one lady in particular didn't seem to want to be there and didn't seem to mind that everyone else could tell. Wanted a fabulous espresso, and they delivered a spectacular cup with a fine crema covering the top, full bodied, not overly bitter, didn't even need a bit of sugar most will add. That was fine. Followed that with a spectacular double shot flat white. Only thing that might make it better would be a fine pastry, and that was delivered in a cheese (forgot the type) and bacon croissant. Comfortable atmosphere, plenty of outdoor seating and an efficient and friendly staff. I had occasion to spend a few hours here waiting on a friend and never felt like I was in the way. They have a nice little breezeway on the side that was comfortable seating even when it was really warm out thanks to a near constant soft breeze. I had a London Fog and it was pretty tasty though I should have been smarter and not ordered hot tea on a hot day, still it was good and I enjoyed it. I went this morning and ordered a white mocha. They seemed pretty scattered behind the coffee bar. They also weren't writing orders or names on the cups. But they had "my drink" out oddly quick (there was people in front of me who hadn't gotten theirs) so I double checked and said "is this fer sure mine? The white mocha?" And they said "yup you're the only one who ordered one so that's yours!" So I grabbed it and drove to work. I got to work and took a sip and it was a plain latte with no flavoring or sweetness in it. Yay! Crows is now re-opened in Waldo. Unsure if they ever officially during the pandemic, but I tried a few times to go and they were not open when I tried. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is even partially covered. Location is great too...just a block off of Wornall you get a quieter experience that creates a great coffeehouse vibe. Crows brew Messenger coffee and had two roasts in drip today. Several pastry options, mostly scones. The chocolate chip espresso scone was ... not too dry. I go to a lot of coffee shops around the city, and I think this one made it's way to the top of my list. Great little spot on 75th with plenty of parking. I usually get a vanilla latte at all coffee shops and this one has a pretty normal iced vanilla latte. But I'm not here for the lattes, I'm here for the space. I went on a beautiful afternoon, the space was open and I was in love with it. Plenty of seats, but maybe that was because it was a weekday. This is a spot I bet fills up quickly on the weekends. This spot here is the perfect addition to Waldo! The staff is always friendly, and they always feature lots of local artwork. My favorite time to go here is during the warmer months! They open up their windows so the shop feels more open and fresh! One of the best parts about Crows is how ideal it is to get work done here. We got a brownie that tasted like chocolate cake instead of actual brownies. However, I liked the environment for a sit-down and study-vibe. The lady who took our order was fairly nice.
