I've been looking for a coffee shop in the KC metro area and decided to give Summer Moon a try. I ordered an iced vanilla latte with oat milk, and my total came out to almost $9. Yes, $9. That's on the expensive side for a latte, so I went in with pretty high expectations. Everything about the experience was quick and efficient. The line moved fast, my drink came out quickly, and I was in and out with no issues. The shop itself seemed like a great place to sit down and get some work done or catch up with a friend. Since it was such a nice day, I decided to sit outside. My first sip immediately stood out because of the texture. It was probably the smoothest coffee I've ever had; silky, creamy, and almost pillowy on the tongue. Unfortunately, that's where most of my praise ends. The coffee itself tasted fine, but nothing about the flavor stood out, especially considering the price. I ordered a vanilla latte, but I couldn't taste any vanilla at all and got virtually no sweetness from the drink. Overall, it's not bad coffee by any means, and the texture was genuinely impressive. But for nearly $9, I expected a lot more flavor. I don't regret trying it, but I wouldn't come back at that price point. read more

On a nice sunny day in OPKS, choose a new spot to try. Abby was extremely patient and helpful understanding there menu options and sweetness categories. There's plenty of other drink options too! There's breakfast options surely you can land on- sandwiches, donuts, pastries and other hot choices. You can tell quite a lot of went into floor layout of the shop. Open design is inviting with different seating sections from front tables, couches and then toward the back more tables where it's great for remote work. Then there's the patio. It's shaded because it's on the backside. I ended up getting an iced Blue Moon Latte, Full Moon sweetness and hot moon matcha to go. Both with oat milk. Their signature sweet cream and oak coffee was good. Since I asked for light ice, it was definitely more milk so the flavor was light, just a hint. My mom liked her matcha just fine. read more

I had been looking forward to checking out Summer Moon Cafe, and when I finally got a chance to go it did not disappoint! The iced latte I got was delicious, and I was so glad that they had decaf espresso as an option since I can't typically have caffeine. I also love that they have baked goods that are both gluten free and vegan- as someone who is allergic to eggs, and who has family members who can't have gluten, this is a huge plus! (Note: I am unsure of their specific cross contamination risks, so be sure to ask staff for more details if needed). There were great seating options (I chose one of the couches, which was so comfy!), and the employees were all very friendly. tried this place on a sunday afternoon after driving past it and wanted to stop by and try it out. im always down to try new coffee spots and this place is absolutely darling. the offer pastries and such if you're in the mood for a snack along with your beverage. what i really liked about this spot is they offer non-coffee drinks as well. the menu is pretty easy to read and understand especially if its your first time there or i would recommend looking at their menu online as it goes into more detail but the baristas there are also super helpful and sweet to answer any questions! The drinks as a whole are incredibly creamy and smooth so if you like your coffee on the milkier side i definitely think you'll like this spot! if you're someone who is looking for that "coffee taste" this might not be your cup of tea or you might potentially enjoy the 1/4 or 1/8 moon latte. Cafe setting wise - cute and lots of space but depending on when you go, there might not be available tables. Go to the back if ur wanting to do work but go to the front for socializing. Menu wise - DONT get the matcha latte (at least w oat milk), because it tastes very artificial/floral imo. And for the size it came in, def felt like I wasted $9 on it. Walked in and felt a bit awkward because I had never been in before and didn't know where things were and I ordered online. No one greeted me or said hello as I walked in, which is strange because I go and review a lot of places and I'm usually always greeted. Found where the pick up area was, grabbed my drink, and left. With my last day here in Kansas (Olathe/Lenexa area), I wanted to hit all highly rated coffee shops in Olathe, Overland Park and Shawnee areas. Total of 8 today, already visited 7 others in the earlier part of the week. Unique about this coffee shop is that it's the most crowded I've seen. It has bright and airy feel and large open area for dine in and for folks to be situated to mingle or work. It also offers frozen strawberry and raspberry lemonade drinks. Aside from typical pastries, they offer Rice Krispies, donuts and kolaches! The staff were very friendly and personable, very informative about what is popular on their menu. Because I literally have 4 coffee concoctions to finish, I wanted to get a food item that's not offered in other coffee shops; so I ordered a cheddar and sausage kolache. The kolache is a 3, nothing special but a hotdog and cheddar cheese. But ambiance and service are a 5. Food was a 3 so I'll say a 4 for this coffee shop. Maybe I'll be back next time to try their coffee beverages. read more

What a cute little coffee shop out in Overland Park. Nice open space inside with good lighting, I imagine an excellent place to work or study from. They have a nice menu range. I had to go with the moon milk latte, which is their special sweet cream milk concoction. I like less sweet so I went with the 1/4 moon milk and added a few extra espresso shots (need my caffeine in the morning)! They also have seasonal drinks as well as breakfast and lunch food items. I spent a couple hours in here working on a crochet project and just over those few hours, i found my new favorite coffee shop! I had no idea this place existed because it's kinda sandwiched between a couple other businesses but im so glad i found it! When i got in there I told the barista that this was my first time so she walked me through the menu and explained the moon sweet cream to me. You can basically pick your drink and decide how much cream you want in it (1/4, 1/2, 3/4, etc). I ordered the blue moon latte with 1/2 cream and it was delicious! Not too sweet but also not bitter at all. The lady was extremely friendly and over the next couple hours I heard her interacting with a bunch of people and kept up her friendly vibe the whole time! It was refreshing to see! I also ordered a pesto and egg sandwich which hit the spot too. The vibe inside is chill, beachy, and laid back vibes. I definitely suggest sitting down for a little bit in there while enjoying your drink/food. I also saw that they have a back patio thing looking over the street. This is def on the list of top coffee spots in the city. It lives up to all the hype. I had a quarter moon (oat milk) latte and it was just the perfect sweetness. You can get the moon milk with cow's milk or oat, almond, soy or coconut milks. If you prefer sweeter coffee you can get half or full moon. The vibe inside is cool and great for working or just relaxing. Friendly and knowledgeable staff- which is comforting for 1st timers (me) who couldn't make a decision. When you pull up and see the outside lot full of cars you expect the inside to be busy. I was pleasantly surprised the it was not super crowded inside. The ambiance is a cozy almost cabin feel. The staff is helpful with suggestions since some of the flavors are not traditionally named or flavors. We sat up front near the front doors during a cold winter morning and we were cozy warm with no issues. The environment is really cozy and a great place to study. I came to do some work and it was relatively quiet while I was there! I really enjoyed my drinks as well. It's really cool to see that you can customize your sweetness and that the moon milk is a secret recipe. My drink was well balanced between sweet and creamy (I did half moon) but I do lean towards the sweeter side. The environment was clean and the staff was friendly. Coffee is very good... Staff is friendly and fast... BUT the "laptop people" take over most of the space. In 5 visits, virtually all of the 4 person tables were occupied by one person on a laptop....and they stay forever. If you want to have coffee and talk to friends, go elsewhere. read more

I usually have to come here every time I visit cause their espresso is solid and their 'moon milk' ( sweet cream) is just so darn good. Wish this company was expand into southern Arizona. First time here after moving to the OP area. I always try the Mocha, if the Mocha is good the rest will follow. The cashier said it's the best, They made it for me and I will say it is up there as one of the best Mochas I have had. The I find out my Son's fiancé used to work the one in Dallas. Also tried their Cinnamon roll, very cinnamoney and buttery. I have now been back 3 times this week. There is no parking in front except for 4 Handicap spots. I downloaded the Summer Moon app and ordered ahead, there isn't a lot of description or help or interactivity. So I ordered my Summer Moon Mocha Latte, added Lavender syrup and did a "Full Moon", this drink was so thick, I found out later that Moon Milk is their blend of cream, my drink was so thick, after dilution it was perfect, gotta order 1/4 or 1/2 moon. I stopped in to this coffee shop yesterday. It is an extremely busy place. The male barista that took my order was very nice and patient since I had not been there before. I got an oat milk, sugar-free vanilla latte, and I was very pleased by the richness and deep tone of their coffee. I was somewhat surprised at how good the coffee undertone was. It is a contemporary, well decorated coffee shop that is airy and light infused. They have a variety of seating indoors and tables and chairs, outdoors, and several in the back as well. Surprisingly I was able to find a hightop table with a comfortable modern chair. I enjoyed my latte as well as a gluten-free blueberry muffin that was good. The only negative about this coffee shop and it does not deserve any lower rating because of it, is the busyness of it. I've come in several times to try and rate it and I like to experience a coffee shop by staying. I had to leave several times because there was no seating. Which is a good thing for a coffee shop But maybe be disappointing for people that want to stay and enjoy a coffee. When I was seated at my table, there was quite a few people in the 30 minutes that I was there that actually had to leave after seeing that there was no seating left. I have been coming here for some time and have become a fan of their half moon latte, even though it's a tad on the sweet side. I have tried the quarter moon and not sweet enough, so I have stuck with the half moon. Today, I noticed they offered a breakfast taco, and they offered three choices. I chose the Southwest taco for $4.40, which I won't do again. It hardly had any filling and it was on the flat side. I did notice in the description that the chorizo was tofu based, but it was so miniscule it was like micro-chorizo. The taco did have egg that I could see. Fortunately, I also bought an almond croissant, which never disappoints. In fact, I can usually count on the bakery items here. read more

Summer Moon is vibes. Honestly, half of the appeal of a coffee shop is the vibes, and Summer Moon has them. Summer Moon also has an interesting menu. It isn't completely curated like Starbucks, but it isn't your basic latte + vanilla, either. They have a secret recipe, "Moon Milk" that makes up the sweetness in their drinks. You can get quarter moon, half moon, etc. to vary your level of sweetness. They have a variety of drinks and treats, and prices are what they should be. I ordered an iced half moon latte and it was good, but I think I'll go for the quarter moon next time because it was a little sweet for me. There is a variety of seating, including couches, tables, and window seating. I love that the seating wraps around to the other side of the store, where there is a huge window overlooking Metcalf. When you're driving down Metcalf and see inside, it looks so inviting. Downside - the music, hands down lol. I mean it was blaring the most annoying music from like 10 years ago, like Party Rock Anthem and The Lazy Song. If you're more in the PSL crowd than someone who just gets americanos, this is a good alternative to places like Starbucks I actually visited a couple of their locations in Austin last year, so when I found out they were opening in KC, I knew I would have to stop by on my next visit. I stopped by twice - one for the Autumn cold brew, once for the autumn moon latte. I also grabbed a cinnamon roll. Staff was polite, prices were about what you'd pay at a chain like Starbucks, coffee was good, though I preferred the latte. This location doesn't quite have the personality of the Austin locations I went to, but it seemed like a pleasant enough spot to sip a latte and work or chat with friends. Totally recommend stopping by here, though a tip if you're watching calories - check out their nutritional guide before you stop by. A lot of their items are.... Cute JoCo coffee shop. Their claim to fame is their "Moon Milk" which is a rich sweet creamy milk that they add into their drinks. Today my daughter had the 3/4 latte which was 3/4 moon milk with skim milk and espresso , very sweet. My mom and I had an espresso shake and Java Chip Moon Glacier.
