I'll definitely be back! Super cutesy with lots of seating options, they have out front street parking or a garage. I had the banana bread iced latte with oat milk, and I LOVE banana coffee so I try them anywhere it's offered, I'd say this was definitely in my top 5 best ones I've had! The breakfast burrito was fantastic as well! Loved all the cute art on the walls and the natural light. Definitely a great coffee shop !

I kept hearing good things about 1888 and when I finally routed myself here I was pleasantly surprised that it replaced Mother Earth Coffee as it was so nice to have a coffee shop in this spot. First things first, the coffee is great, and I had an easy time connecting to their wifi. I stayed and worked for a while and I'd definitely consider doing it again. The only reason I'm going with 4/5 is because the restrooms are around the corner and require a key to enter. I get it, it appears to be a shared space for the restrooms, but coffee tends to just run through me like water so it becomes a nuisance to ask a few times to use the key if you're working for a bit. I'd see if they could eventually replace with a code that refreshes or shows up on the receipt of your drink to make it easier for paying customers and baristas. Overall though, I'll certainly be back, but probably more for a quick stop than a long work stay.

Once again another bang up job.. Dubai dream- strawberry and pistachio flavors, oat milk, two shots of espresso and light ice! I appreciate baristas who deliver the drink you ask for and the drink itself is so good! Thank you!

I recently visited a neighborhood coffee shop in Hyde Park (Midtown KC) and was impressed by its cozy atmosphere. Upon entering, I noticed vines hanging from the ceiling, stylish decor, and multiple areas for private conversations and seating, as well as workstations with plug-ins. I enjoyed a Pistachio Mocha iced, which was very good. The coffee shop also offers a variety of breakfast items, including breakfast burritos, breakfast sandwiches, and bakery items, as well as a lunch menu featuring flatbread pizzas, grilled cheese, turkey club sandwiches, and specialty coffee drinks. If you're looking for a comfortable and relaxing spot to enjoy solo, meet with friends, or simply grab a quick pick-me-up, this coffee shop is a great option. Located at 3504 Gillham Rd, it is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM. we were greeted and asked if there was anything they could help with just let him know.

Okay, I thought I had my top 2 coffee favorites locked down...and then I tried 1888. My goodness you all are good! I went out on a limb and tried the Dr Pepper Latte (iced) and the bacon breakfast burrito and OOOOOOOOO they are both crazy good. It's right next to Bliss Books, so the perfect day would be to go to 1888 then over to read. There is a good amount of room to work, read, eat or whatever you need to do. It's a beautiful space with super helpful employees. You know you find a good one when you tell someone that it's your first time in and their eyes light up and they get excited to tell you about what they have, and that was my experience there. I'm so excited to come back and try more!

Named for the year that George Kessler was commissioned to design Hyde Park; 1888 goes for a late 19th and early 20th century vibe with memorabilia from those eras scattered about the large space. Lots of room with natural lighting and an assortment of seating options inside and patio make 1888 a good place to meet-up or get some work done. I ordered from the specialty menu - Velvet Caramel iced. A nice beverage for a hot day and for spending $9 w/tax for a beverage it should be. The baristas could be a bit more friendly / welcoming but they weren't rude. Street and garage parking available.

I've been here a couple of times now. There are many unique options for coffee, tea, and baked goods. I They have merchandise near the front as you walk in. The staff are great and greet you as you walk in. We sat on the comfy couch by the entrance and noticed a book regarding Kansas City's history. We enjoyed looking through the book at all the before pictures and comparing them to now.

I love the cozy atmosphere here--it has such a good vibe that you could come every day. The food and drinks are a bit pricey for a coffee shop, but the Coconut Matcha is definitely worth it--especially with oat milk, it's my favorite! I also tried one day the turkey melt sandwich, which was a little sweet for my taste, other day I tried , the lox bagel, bacon bagelwich were delicious!

the pros: cute inside and lots to choose from on the menu. the cons: parking and prices. they can pretty much make any drink but the add on prices are outrageous. it doesn't help that everything is so so expensive already either. i got the lavender latte and it tasted off, but that could be because i forgot to get oat milk instead of whole milk it seemed super busy though so maybe i didn't order the right thing but i probably won't be back anyway

This place is busy busy busy, but I can see why. It's deceptively small looking but there are actually quite a few tables - most of them with electrical outlets. A nice cozy decor here - lots of natural light but with dark furniture - so not too bright and not too dark. The LOX & bagel as well as the Turkey & Fig sandwich were both delicious, and the drinks equally as good. Will be back soon!

Hi everyone, It's me again and I just have to shout out 1888 Coffee House! Their matcha is by far my favorite as they've consistently delivered amazing drinks every single time. I've been there almost every day this week because it's just that good! Not only do they have incredible matcha options for me, but their coffee keeps my boyfriend coming back as well. Today, in addition to our usual order, we tried the Strawberry Matcha and it was good! It reminded us of Neapolitan ice cream with that sweet strawberry flavor mixed throughout. Personally, I'm more of a fresh strawberry fan, but we still enjoyed it. That said, the Toasted Coconut Matcha is hands down the BEST I've had. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area!

Lovely new coffee spot Near hyde park! There's a parking garage right next to the location which makes parking a breeze. Entering there's plenty of specialty drinks, seating, and fast wifi! Specialty coffee is on the sweet side, nonetheless they were yummy. Vegan friendly - ask for no cold foam on the specialty drinks!

This surprisingly cozy coffee shop sits at the corner of Armour and Gillham, with its entrance on the east side facing Gillham. Even though it's in a modern corpo building, the vibe is warm, relaxed, and reminiscent of charming small-town cafés. The staff is incredibly friendly. I was just looking for a simple coffee, but their s'mores latte caught my eye and I couldn't resist giving it a try on that breezy, overcast day.

It's suppose to be a creme brûlée donut.

My Winner of Best Restaurant Week Meal 2026…read more I hadn't been back to Westport Cafe for a few years but now I'm kicking myself because I've been missing out! I remembered this restaurant being one of my favorites in years past . For some reason it fell off my radar. Now it's shining like a beacon of fine dining French inspired cuisine in Westport, an entertainment district known for a more casual environment. If you are looking for a special date night meal, somewhere for a girls night or just for a treat yourself dinner I would highly suggest Westport Cafe. Let's talk about this incredible restaurant week menu. First was the deconstructed crab cake (which is always on the menu) I would order this dish again and again. The way it was presented was a work of art. All the components were complex and it was fun to eat. It has such an essence of crab without the heaviness deep fried crab cakes usually have. Seafood is special here because the Trout Almondine was one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. It begs to be added to the menu. The sauce was buttery and rich with nutty notes, the citrus cut through the richness so, it didn't seem heavy. The fish was cooked impeccably, I literally had no notes. They know what they're doing in that kitchen! And you know if I can rave about green beans then it was a perfectly executed dish. They had such a nice snap and vibrant green color, they were delicious dipped in that sauce. I cannot wait to go back for another solo splurge meal. This was my second dinner of the evening so I didn't make it to dessert at the restaurant but, I did take it to-go. I'm not a big dessert girl so, it wasn't very memorable however, the rest of the meal is engrained in my mind. I remember back a few years ago I used to go crazy for the muscles here so, I can't wait to sample them again. Also, just a note any menu that has rabbit on it just completes me. It's so hard to find nowadays in Kansas City and it's one of my favorite meats to indulge in. The menu rotates seasonally (as one should) so, I need to rush back in soon before the rabbit leaves. I would suggest you rush in too, I do not think you'll regret it.

Our night out in Westport took us to a couple of different spots…read more Our main haunt for the evening, however, was Westport Cafe. It's a pretty eclectic, cozy French Bistro. I highly recommend making a reservation because the space gets crowded quickly. We started the night with "The Corinthian," which was a velvety, sweet, and incredibly refreshing libation. The food throughout the night was a bit of a mixed bag, leading to some hilarious table critiques: One friends Stuffed Lamb Saddle: This dish looked like a Monet on a plate, but unfortunately, most of the pallette tasted like a five-year-old's finger painting. One of the glaring faux pas's was the Kryptonite-colored risotto, which tasted exactly like the peppermint gel the dentist uses to scrub your teeth clean. The lamb itself was cooked well, though a bit on the gamey side. The Halibut & Croque Monsieur: On the brighter side, one friend ordered the halibut--which tasted great, though the portion left her wanting a lot more--and another ordered the fancy French version of a ham and cheese sandwich, which was delicious. My friend and I decided to split a few plates: Oysters: Served on an elegant little plate with a house-made hot sauce and trout roe, these were absolutely spot-on. Beef Empanadas: As someone with high empanada standards, these didn't quite hit the mark. While they were mostly crispy and the meat had good flavor, the texture inside was a little mushy. The saving grace was the fantastic chimichurri sauce. Steak Frites: The steak was tender and flavorful, served with hollandaise and mustard sauces. The accompanying truffle fries, however, were like costume jewelry--glamorous and fancy at first glance, but ultimately just ordinary. The staff was nice and attentive and it was very thoughtful that they told us the 20% tip was included in the bill. Note: The restaurant does get pretty loud and packed, but we got lucky and were seated all the way in the back, which gave us a bit of a haven especially since our group can be a little obnoxious. Pro-tip: if you have a sweet tooth, saunter over to Insomnia Cookies afterward for an incredible treat... It's cookie heaven!

How have I not yet reviewed Crow's Coffee? It feels criminal to have been Yelping so long and have…read moreoverlooked this wonderful local spot! At any rate, where to start? I remember back in 2011 when I worked at the Nelson we were absolutely starved for a great local coffee house to open up nearby. We had Latte Land on the plaza but parking over there was always nuts and to just pop in and grab a coffee we'd often end up over at KCAI. When Crow's opened while I was away in graduate school I remember my former colleagues gushing about it - saying it had finally happened and a good shop had opened. They weren't wrong. Here we are, probably 10 years (ish) since they first opened their doors and they are still serving the need for fantastic local coffee in this part of KC. On my most recent visit I popped in for a coffee to take with me to a meet at UMKC and I was reminded at how great this spot is. While there are many more great coffee options nearby these days you can't fail to remember Crows and I look forward to my next visit!

Even with the crowd it was not noisy at all and I was able to settle in and get plenty of work done. I ordered an iced oat milk latte with an extra shot of espresso and it was delicious. The coffee flavor really came through and was perfectly prepared. The staff was also very friendly and helpful which made the experience even better. I will definitely be back.
