When entering this small, depressed and dangerous feeling neighborhood, the assumption is that there's no way to get a good cup of coffee. However, entering this store one is transported to a totally different world. Almost like walking through a wardrobe! Clean, asymmetrical decor, a pleasant and welcoming smile. Several regulars came in and confirmed the positive experience is not out of the norm. But of course, the main point is and should be the coffee and food. The donuts (made locally) were tasty, if a bit too sugary. If you have a sweet tooth ache make sure you get one. The coffee was very good. The latte wasn't overly hot, and not bitter nor sour as is often the case. And the fact it's a non-profit purely designed to direct all profits and proceeds back into the town it's operating in, very cool. Although it's not the very best coffee I've had, it's quite good enough, and tasty enough that I'll be coming back here again on my next swing through Kansas City. And you should too. read more

The shop is bigger than it looks from outside with lots of seating and even a private room for groups. The entry and bathroom are both handicap accessible, and several tables could easily offer roll-up accessibility! There's both street parking (parallel parking) and a small lot on the East side of the building. And even if that lot is full, there should be enough room to pull in and unload for wheelchairs or strollers. I stopped in to try out this coffee shop today and I was so glad that I did! My latte was excellent and so flavorful! The service was good and they were very nice. The coffee shop is a pretty good size with a good variety of comfortable seating. I really liked the decor and the whole vibe was very friendly and relaxing. There is not a lot of parking on the side of the building, I was able to get the last spot available at the time I was there. I will absolutely come back and try some of their other items. They have some bakery goods and I asked if they had gluten-free and they do but they were sold out when I got there. They also have a lovely and clean bathroom. read more

The staff is super friendly and greets everyone upon their arrival in the door...in a nice way, not a Gates way (IYKYK!) me and hubs both got the Local Dream which is a lavender white mocha, really delicious! The ambiance was lovely, lots of pillows and seating, both at tables and at cozy couches and chairs. Barefoot Mission that runs Grounded Sole Coffeehouse was founded on the beliefs. "The holy happens when we show up-fully present, for those around us". Coffee is amazing from frappe's to cold brew to specialty drinks. They have a limited menu of food items. Grounded Sole is a not for profit coffeehouse that is ran by and supports The Barefoot Mission. An organization that assists in many ways to re-invest in people in urban locations. Always in search of new coffeehouses, my wife and I made the drive from the Northland to the often overlooked and neglected Argentine neighborhood of south central Kansas City, KS. The space is absolutely delightful in it's renovation of an old rundown building on Argentines main drag - Strong Ave. We ordered and found a seat and almost immediately were joined by a lovely couple that had also driven an equal distance from the south suburbs to support Grounded Sole. My cortado and my wife's espresso were wonderful. Great product for a great cause. Warm and inviting ambiance. Great conversations with nice folks. Such a cute little hidden coffee place. Went on a Friday morning so it was extremely slow but they were so nice and welcoming! I got their "local dream" drink which is a lavender white mocha and it was perfect! Not too much lavender flavoring. Stop me if you've heard this before: a small business whose purpose is simply giving back. Oh, wait, you don't hear that much? You mean most businesses operate in order to make a buck? Yeah, not this one, well, not for themselves. Grounded Sole is right in the heart of the Argentine area of KCK, and let's call it what it is: ain't a lot of gathering places or Starbucks in the area. That's fine, because those are a dime a dozen, and they really don't churn out anything special or noteworthy and besides, who wants to constantly reinvent themselves in the market just to try to sell the same thing? Sure, Grounded Sole is serving coffee drinks and other accoutrements. (Pro tip: try a donut) But what they are really *serving* is the purpose of Barefoot Mission, the wishes of those who call Argentine their home, & the open hearts of those love to give back but sometimes don't have all the right recipients. If your community cries out for a gathering spot and you are able to answer that call, then you are doing the work of those with a higher calling. I asked for a brief rundown on the how/why Grounded Sole came to be and *wow* do they love to talk about their intentions. All of the staff is essentially volunteer, including donations of contractor and architectural efforts, and given the purpose of Grounded Sole, it's easy to see how people would want to contribute their time and energy. I'm not even from KCK and I would sign up in a heartbeat to be a part of this positive, mission-driven destination just to feel like my servant heart could be heard. I am 100% positive there are many who would feel the same way. There is gracious plenty seating, and comfortable seating at that, and that volunteer force has turned this old building into an exceptionally inviting space. Messenger coffee scents fill the room with the comforting aroma of a kaffehaus with the gentle murmur of quiet conversation providing the soundtrack. Love this hidden gem. I've lived in the area all my life but didn't know this spot was here until recently. Inside is a lot bigger than it appears on the outside. Lots of different seating types and even a private room for a larger meeting space. It's a beautiful space. Coffee was great. They have seasonal specials, house specials, and the standard drinks. They do a punchcard and the 10th drink is free, which is great. Barista was super nice and started a convo with me since it was on the slower side. Very pleasant and learned about the coffeeshop. Such a gem in KCK! Working in the area, I have LOVED seeing the local coffee scene continue to grow, and Grounded Sole is a beautiful addition. The space is so colorful and welcoming, with seatings for small groups and larger gatherings. It ended up being a great spot to meet a few co-workers and get some work done! They have a solid seasonal menu, with some unique fall flavors currently. I love trying what's seasonal, special, or unique to the shop. This time around, I went for the Red Scarf (iced) - a brown sugar cinnamon latte (a favorite of mine lately) and it was delicious! I look forward to trying the apple cold brew. A solid menu of pastries and bagels are available too. I grabbed a nutella filled bear claw - so yummy! But there were several donuts that caught my eye too. The whole shop also promotes community. Grounded Sole was started as a part of Barefoot Missions. I look forward to seeing what events and partnerships they have to bring together the Argentine community!
