Everything we got to eat was amazing and was fully eaten...and there was enough of us where we tried pretty much everything... I also got the CRUcumber, which was delicious if you like cucumber. Didn't taste too much like vodka but was strong. Service was a bit confusing...don't tell the bread boy you want a drink...because he just gets the manager who comes over and then gets your server. 4 stars for the food and 5 stars for the amazing service given to us by Deena!! What makes a restaurant with good food go over the top is the customer service and Deena did not disappoint! On to the food: the fresh focaccia bread they serve to start is fresh and warm and tasty. We then ordered the lobster bisque that comes with the to die for hush puppies. We then ordered the lobster roll and to be honest, we tried quite a few around town and Cru wins hands down! The cocktails are creative and you can't beat the view of the harbor. CRU came highly recommended but coming from Boston, my wife and I have high standards for seafood! The location is great. Right on Straight Wharf with a great ocean view. Unfortunately, CRU is not a great location for conversation or a quiet romantic dinner since it is one of the loudest restaurants in which we've ever dined. It gets quite busy and we waited 15 minutes past our reservation time to get our table. The oysters were quite good but by the time we were seated (7:15PM), they were already out of 3 types of oysters on their menu. The lobster cocktail was delicious and generous. The lobster roll was excellent. Among the top 3 I have ever had. The lobster meat tasted as though it were poached in white wine (waitress could not confirm) and then tossed in butter. Complimented nicely by a toasted roll and fries. Besides the noise, I have to subtract another star for the lack of dessert options. They only offer 5 choices for desserts (with 2 being ice cream or sorbet). We tried the whoopie pie which was incredibly dry and with a bland cream filling. A restaurant aspiring to be at the top of Nantucket's offerings should have better desserts. Overall, good seafood, noisy, and poor dessert selections. read more

Without doubt the worst restaurant service that I have ever been to. Food was outrageously expensive servers were arrogant all they wanted was to get rid of this as soon as they could they served us drinks we paid the bill then they asked us to leave will never go back and I would highly recommend anybody reading this please take the advice. My friends and I couldn't make our bachelorette's weekend in Nantucket, so we thought we'd send her several surprises, one of which would be a round of shots after her planned dinner at Cru Restaurant. One would think this was a fairly straightforward task, but I was appalled by their lack of attention prior to planning, and then the fact that they never delivered the shots, even after taking my credit card info. We were notified by our friend that after her bachelorette dinner on a Saturday night, she did not receive the round of tequila shots that we were very excited to give her. I am more than incredibly disappointed with Cru's lack of communication and ultimate execution on this point. Although this was an extremely easy and straightforward task, for some reason I had to call over ten times, speak with over three people, and send a confirmation email (even after I had asked Cru twice to proactively send one to me, which they never did). Despite my best efforts to coordinate from our end, this somehow managed to fall by the wayside. I am now incredibly uncomfortable having my credit card number floating around on a piece of paper in which I imagine is an extremely disorganized office. My experience with Cru was absolutely abysmal. I also sent an email after the fact to Cru to ask why the shots were never delivered, and to please destroy my credit card info, and never received a response. How typical. read more

Service was terrible. Our waitress did not introduce herself and it took forever for her to come over. I had to ask for my water to be filled twice and it took about ten minutes for two drinks. She and her host friend seemed to be much more interested in talking about their clothing and other "important" things. I had to ask someone else to deliver the check. We had a fantastic dinner here on a recent trip to Nantucket! Great location right on Straight Wharf with great views and a nice breeze. The highlight for me were the amazingly fresh, cold, succulent oysters -- a couple from Nantucket, but also some PEIs, Kumamotos, Buzzards Bay, and others -- great variety from the normal local only. They also have a great wine list with reasonable prices. We started with a glass of the Falaghino from the Campania region of Italy, and then ordered a bottle of the Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc ($98) with the oysters and dinner. The kids got the chicken breast plate which came with watermelon, corn, and mac n' cheese. A really great value and good healthy non-hot dog/burger/chicken finger option. We had the tuna tartare toast, tuna crudo special (delicious!), and little neck clams. All were great, fresh, tasty, and reasonably priced for the area and quality. Our waitress was great -- much better than the confused-lacking-in-confidence hostess out front who wasn't sure what to do with people. Overall, a great experience overall! read more

The food at Cru was delicious, but the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. Three of us went on a Sunday evening, and it was not very busy. The wait staff was indifferent at best. It took 90 minutes for our food to arrive (did I mention that it wasn't that busy) and no one came to see if we needed more drinks or to give us a status on the food. The icing on the cake is that they added 20% tip without telling us. I was figuring the tip and took a closer look at the receipt to see that it was already on the bill. The wait staff did not tell and and the menu was on line. The restaurant needs to focus on service. And, as for adding the tip for a table of three, what's that all about? read more

My family went to CRU for lunch in late August. The location of CRU is absolutely perfect, right on the wharf. Unfortunately, it did not start on the right foot. It was a beautiful day and we preferred to sit outside. We asked the person who was handling reservations how long would the wait be. He was the most condescending jerk and shame on CRU for putting him in that role. He didn't look up from his IPAD and replied wait is 35 minutes. I asked how long is the wait for table inside the restaurant. Again without looking up from his IPAD, replied in a very annoyed tone, " I don't know, ask the person inside". The restaurant is not cheap and I didn't expect Michelin star service, but common courtesy would go a long way. If one is so "unhappy" with their job, one should just quit and find another profession, one that doesn't interact with people. The young woman in charge of reservations for indoor dining was night and day. Took our name and cell number and told us she would text us when the table would be ready. Which was perfect, we walked around the wharf and shopped. We didn't wait more than 15 minutes and indoor dining was equally nice. I must say the food was excellent, but expensive. But if you are going to visit Nantucket, then one should not complain about prices. read more

Expensive but completely worth it! I just finished a super quick lunch at Cru and had the most amazing lobster roll ever! Giant chunks of lobster meat and a light creamy dressing with garnish. The bun tastes light and perfectly squishy and toasted with butter. The setting is great and right near the Main Street dock. The service was spectacular! I told the person making the seating that I needed to catch a flight back to NYC, and he took my drink order to get things started quickly. The server came over the minute I sat down and took my order: a blood orange mimosa and a lobster roll. I ended up order half a dozen oysters from nearby areas to finish off a perfect last meal on the island and I had been seated, given my full order and paid all within 30 minutes!!!! Very nice setting for a fancy dinner. Came here with my family and sat outside which was very charming. The restaurant is mostly seafood with a few other options. I ordered the tuna bolognese which was decent but nothing special. It was $35+ dollars and I would say it was not worth it the cost. We also ordered calamari and sliders for the table. The calamari was delicious and was probably the best part of the meal. The sliders were under seasoned and tasted bland. The service was good and the waiter was fast and pleasant. However, for the price we paid, I would've liked some higher quality and better tasting food. Would recommend here for the setting but there are definitely better options for food on the island. read more

Fabulous location and great food. This was probably the best food I have ever had. We went there for their lobster rolls. They are fairly pricey, $38, but worth every penny. The music in the first dining room was way too loud, ruining the atmosphere. The second room was amazing. All of the windows were open, giving us a wonderful ocean breeze. So disappointing- I was here with 7 girls last night and we were all being harassed by drunk men at the bar who were telling us that they were going to drug us, grabbing us, not responding to us asking them to leave us alone, saying incredibly lewd things to us repeatedly, saying we're too old for them (were in our 20s) when we denied them amongst many other inappropriate things. The restaurant manager, Carlos, was apathetic to the situation and said it wasn't his fault or his problem that we were being threatened at his restaurant. Even a waitress told us that they'd grabbed her butt. And yet they were still there. We felt unsafe and not cared for, Carlos did not care that his guests threatened to assault us while we were just eating dinner. They finally got kicked out.. but we didn't even get a discount on our bill for the entire experience being ruined as a result of them over serving their other guests. Harassment and threats of assault should be taken seriously and handled better. It's a shame that their sweet female wait staff has to deal with that regularly because their manager doesn't understand that predatory behavior can be prevented. read more

Incredible oysters! The Wellfleets couldn't be any plumpier and creamy. A perfect combo with the tangy local Oyster Stout. The cocktail shrimp were the biggest I've ever seen and tasted very fresh. Came here for pre-dinner oysters and drinks. We were just able to squeeze into the bar and the bartender was super attentive, made a great aperol spritz (added in a little grapefruit - beyond delicious.) Oysters were fresh and tasty. This is now going to be added to my "must go" restaurants on Nantucket each year. Each in our party of four was absolutely delighted with the exceptional food quality. Started with fantastic raw bar offerings (perfect oysters, massive shrimp cocktail) and unbelievably fresh tuna tartare. Lobster entree was pricy but well worth it, and the Arctic Char delicious. If you're going to splurge, Cru makes it worth it. You won't be disappointed. I wasn't overly impressed with the service (some attitude) but the food more than compensated. I recently dined at CRU with my husband and two other couples and had a great experience. The scene was lively and we were seated in a corner table overlooking the dock and water, the view was simply beautiful. We also throughly enjoyed people watching here. The restaurant is full of people who are out to have fun and enjoy themselves. If you are looking for a quiet experience, this is not the place to go, but if you are looking to laugh, have fun and enjoy amazing food, this is the spot. We ordered a ton of oysters that did not disappoint. They were so fresh we could have just dined on them all night. But we also ordered an array of appetizers that were also tasty. The lobster bisque was some of the best I ever had and can't wait to go back and have more. The entrees were delicious and beautifully served. Now, the drinks, WOW! So much fun and so yummy. Be sure to sample a few of the house drinks and be adventurous. We took turns sampling each others and had a hard time deciding who's was best. We know they are new and had just opened so we were not worried about rushing through dinner and enjoyed the pace. We had no other plans and simply enjoyed the view, lively conversations and food.
