This review is specific to the Caribbean takeout menu, not the normal menu for Nantucket Lobster Trap. While wondering around town, we went down a side road behind the Nantucket Lobster Trap and a wonderful aroma of curry reached us. The takeout window has a special menu off to the right side of Caribbean curries and other dishes. We came back that night and were rewarded with some of the best food we had on the island. The chicken was so tender it fill off the bone, sauces were rich and flavorful without being too spicy. We tried Festival, which is a bread that is a little sweet, and found it good for dipping in the sauces. Everything was excellent. Give it a try, it is like a hidden secret on Nantucket. read more

Honestly, skip it. The service was believably slow. We waited five minutes to order drinks, another ten to get drinks, and 45 minutes from ordering to receiving our food, which is particularly annoying when buying a chewy $45 lobster roll. By the time the food came, the fries on one plate were burnt. A server (not ours), who was very nice, explained that management required her to take the entire plate back or they couldn't replace the fries, as if we were trying to scam them for extra? We wanted to like this place very much, but it's clearly just trading on its name and location rather than any desire to provide good service and good food. read more

Another incredible, highly prized by the locals, seafood / lobster shack on Nantucket. In town, easy walk - parking is, well, Nantucket town parking. Classic old school looks. Nautical decor, stained tables, pictures of local lobstermen and boats. My only complaint: I am 6'6" and the tables / benches do not move at all... so it's a bit uncomfortable if you are tall or big. Open year round, limited hours and days off-season, including the Take Out Window. Damn good lobster. Steamers to die for. Coleslaw is nice and cold just like the Cisco draught beer. We chose The Lobster Trap because it was within walking distance from our hotel and showed as open on both Yelp and their website. Unfortunately, when we got there, the main restaurant was closed. Thankfully, they had a window service operating, so we were still able to grab some takeout. The person at the window was very soft-spoken and didn't really explain the menu or our options, which made ordering a bit confusing. We found a nearby spot to sit and eat. The lobster roll was tasty - hard to go wrong with one, but the portion was surprisingly small for the price. Overall, while the food was decent, the window service experience left a lot to be desired. I wouldn't recommend it based on that alone. read more

My family and I got some great seafood from this truck while we were at Cisco. The oysters, in particular, were delicious, and I got seconds and thirds on them. They were so fresh. I didn't realize these spots closed in the middle of the day and I wasn't ready to eat until 3pm. Thankfully this spot was available for take out only! I got the Connecticut style warm lobster roll with garlic butter. It came with a side of fries and coleslaw. They were super friendly and quick too but made fresh. I walked back to my cottage to enjoy it and it was still warm. Everything was absolutely delicious and I enjoyed every bite. Ok I cheated: we didn't get tue LOBSTER TRAP's lobster roll. What we uad were made to order and were great nonetheless. FISH AND CHIPS. The fish used was great! The batter was yummy and held together very well. The fish was flaky. The chips were perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. SHRIMP CHIPS was a great choice. First time visitor yesterday and it was great. We arrived at 2:47 pm, just 13 minutes before their kitchen closes for a break and to prepare for dinner service. It would have been completely understandable for them to send us away, but they welcomed us graciously. We started with bacon wrapped, stuffed shrimp. They were fresh and fantastic. We shared the 1.5 lb boiled lobster and it was great as well. In hindsight, the 1.5 lb meal could be eaten by just one person, but it was adequate to share. I've come to the Lobster Trap a few times over the years and every time we get lobster rolls, fried fish sandwiches, and steamers. The lobster roll is a nice big portion with chunks of lobster coated with the perfect amount of mayo on a warm toasty bun. If you love clams, the steamers are a must order item. Give them a quick swish in the salty broth, a dunk in the melted butter, and pop 'em in your mouth! The restaurant is located a few blocks away from the center of town, so it's quieter and not as crowded. As with any seafood place on the island, the prices are up there, but what you'd expect to pay. We've always experienced great food and friendly service. They have a nice covered outdoor patio that creates an airy, comfortable atmosphere. Great option for a casual summer lunch! read more

Sit outside. The lobster trap is one of the only places to get whole lobster on the island. The place is definitely cool and has a great bar. The service was great and the atmosphere outside was great. The food was ok. I had some real issues. The bacon wrapped scallops were teeny. They were not worth ordering at all but the dipping sauce was solid. A place called lobster trap has to be solid on every lobster ordered. Cooking a lobster is a scientific process. Put lobster in boiling water. Depending on size cook for set amount of time. If you sell 1,1.5,2lb lobster you should be able to deliver a perfect lobster every time. My 2lb lobster was beyond over cooked it was sad. The sides were ok but everything was just covered in butter. The stuffed lobster was better because the stuffing was delish but the meat was tough too. read more

Nantucket Island. Why pay less? $100 lunch for 2 is getting away cheap. So you might as well enjoy, eat well and eat whatever you want. I came here for the "Connecticut Style" Lobster Roll ($34). Claw and Tail meat served warm in a nice crisp roll. MEATY, they pack it well with TASTY, DELICIOUS, Lobster. Every bite was ECSTASY. The Coleslaw was very good, could have given a larger portion. The French fries were crisp outside and tender inside. The best I have had in Cape Cod. My girlfriend chose the fried Scallops Roll ($28) and she was pleased. Again served up with Coleslaw and French fries. For a starter we tried something new. Steamer Clams ($25) that you remove from the shell, swish them around in a broth to remove sand and grit, dip into butter and enjoy! I am glad we tried them. Service was friendly and efficient. Bathroom was clean and odorless. Make sure that you have a big breakfast on shore before coming here for the day. First let me say the waitstaff couldn't be nicer. As for the food, absolutely awful! Ordered the swordfish without the "blackened" seasoning. Tasted like iodine. It was over the hill. Probably why they don't offer it without heavy spicing. My wife ordered the Cesar salad with crispy chicken which was mushy and the dressing was must have been out of a big lot economy bottle. Again, dreadful as were the stale cheap croutons. Guessing this place is good for lobster and nice bar. There are reasons why other places have lines and this place is pretty empty. We were super excited to try The Lobster Trap while visiting Nantucket. We dined in on a Sunday night. We had made reservations but it was not busy at all and were seated promptly. We chose to eat outside on the patio since it was a pretty Fall evening. We started with drinks and the calamari appetizer ( we wanted the bacon wrapped scallops but were informed they were out) The calamari was ok- nothing special by any means. The beers were cold though a tad pricey . We heard that we needed to try the stuffed lobster at least once. I decided to get a regular 1.5 pound steamed lobster and my husband had the stuffed lobster. Both came with a side. It takes quite some time for the baked/stuffed lobster so be prepared to wait. They present the streamed lobster in a unique way! I was just excited to get the bib :) The steamed lobster was good with the warm drawn butter. The stuffed lobster was not to my liking at all and I'm glad I didn't get it too. It had way too much dry breading ( or whatever it was) making the whole thing not good. My husband is not normally picky and even he didn't love it :( He forced himself to finish it ( scraping off most of the stuffing ) At the end of dinner our bill was given to us when I noticed a $6 charge for a side salad. I asked our server about it and he was kind of rude and condescending. He never mentioned an up charge for the salad I didn't even want. He told me to pick to sides and offered the salad as one. I chose a house salad with ranch dressing and got a Caesar salad instead ( they were out of ranch apparently) I could see he didn't give a crap and wasn't even apologetic in any way. If you say your open till 10 your kitchen shouldn't close at 930 especially considering the struggle Resturant's have been having. Just wanted a beer and some oysters and was told kitchen is closed than went to get just a beer and can't get a drink with no food so I guess the Resturant really closes at 930. Told the male waiter guess you guy don't want my money and was told No we don't. Was there 2 day prior and had a amazing experience which was the reason I came back. Arrived in time to have dinner on the patio. We were told that at 6:30 the patio is used solely for drinking and socializing. Service started a bit off- we were immediately served a nice basket of rolls and cornbread, but oddly there were no bread plates or even silverware on the table. We started off with a pitcher of Lobster Trap Summer Sangria ($20). Without question, it was the smallest pitcher I have ever had a beverage served in -I took a photo of it and you'll see that my butter knife towered over it. It was like a pitcher from Lilliput. And to make me feel even more ripped off, the pitcher was 75% full of ice. Anyway, the sangria was excellent, I have to admit that. I also had a "Pain Killer" ($8) from their Summer Cocktail menu - a nice concoction of rum, Creme of coconut, OJ and pineapple juice. A terrific summer drink! Our entrees were a one pound broiled lobster, a lobster roll, and a seafood combination. I had the combo dinner - a half of a boiled lobster, fried shrimp, cod, whole ipswich clams, sea scallops, and calamari, plus two sides (corn and asparagus). The lobster was cooked perfectly -moist and not dry or overcooked, and the fried food was crisp and fresh and very tasty. I especially liked the scallops and the calamari. Eating on the deck got a little noisier as the evening went on, and the bar scene accelerated and the decibel level of the music hit Mach 2. I can see why they cut off the outdoor dinner at 6:30. We had a huge meal where everyone had some type of lobster, a (very small) pitcher of sangria, a mixed drink and an Anchor Steam ($7) for $126.26. I'm so excited to review The Nantucket Lobster Trap for my 600th Yelp review! I really loved this place. In the buttoned up environs of the grey lady, The Nantucket Lobster Trap stands apart as a genuine unpretentious New England seafood restaurant.  My husband and I arrived around 8:45pm after a 3-hour flight delay from LaGuardia on the recent sunny and temperate Labor Day Friday. We easily got a table, though I could imagine quite a slightly more boisterous scene earlier in the night. The friendly waitress helped me select one of their chardonnays, which is my favorite shellfish wine pairing. On to the food! I chose the whole lobster with a side of corn and fries. The lobster was maybe a hair overcooked, but I enjoyed every minute of it. Everything really was delicious. My husband went with the boil, and I loved trying the crispy Portuguese sausage as much as the abundant shellfish. Obviously I am not a local, nor am I even a regular to the island, but The Nantucket Lobster Trap is definitely on my must-visit list for the next time fate lands me in Nantucket. read more

Our family ordered clambakes from this restaurant and were so disappointed. There was hardly any food in the containers, majority of the clams were not edible, lobsters were over cooked, half the orders were wrong or even missing AND they charged gratuity for takeout! It was a complete waste of money. THEN we went to Cisco brewery, turns out they have a food truck there. We ordered chicken fingers and the chicken was literally raw. Completely raw. We had an excellent dinner here! Our waiter (Louis) was friendly and on top of everything we asked him. Service here was excellent which we had found lacking on other restaurants on the island. Definitely a notch or two off from the place I've visited for years. First, on 4th of July the place was not crowded around 6:30. That should have been our first clue. The clam chowder was very floury and not heavily invested in clams. But the real disappointment was that my pound and a half baked stuffed crustacean was overcooked, making the meat tough and hard to dig out. Stuffing is nothing to write home about being basically bread. One eyesore was the ear of corn they brought me which had some crud growing on it. (See picture). They gladly replaced the corn but left the first ear on the table, gloating at us like the little miscreant it was. Time was our annual trip to the Lobster Trap was an event I'd look forward to. Next time a bag lunch from the local farm shop will do and we'll leave this place for those who savor mediocrity. read more

Okay Yelpers, the joke is on me. This place could be summed up in 3 words. "NEEDS MORE SALT!!" I felt I needed to make a larger dent in the lobster population in New England so based my fellow Yelpers recommendation, I told the hubby we should go to this restaurant. Our waitress was lovely and very quick with our drinks. She was great to my girls too, making drink suggestions for them (non-alcoholic - what kind of mother do you think I am??). The service slowed down markedly after our drinks were served. Then when they brought out my girl's food, we also got a semi-yummy basket of hot biscuits. Needless to say my kids wanted the biscuits and not their dinner. It was timed very poorly. About 25 minutes after my kids were served, out came the hubby & my entrees. You know what happens 25 minutes after a child eats and now has to wait for their parents to eat? Bedlam. Pure Bedlam. Onto the food. We had: Linguini with clams- bland, needed a lot of salt Boiled lobster - very bland, needed lots of salt and butter (with a really good lobster, you don't need butter....)
