We were suppose to get married on the day we visited Cru but had to postpone our wedding. This restaurant was the perfect place to celebrate and enjoy a wonderful dinner! We tried the champagne and oysters special which I absolutely recommend. For a main, I had the lobster roll and my fiancé had the halibut! Both were delicious and even though the entire menu looked fantastic, if we were to return, we would get them again. That's how delicious it was--especially the halibut! We also tried the Parisian Summer cocktail which was delicious and not too sweet. A perfect cocktail for a summer night. The staff made us feel very special when we mentioned we were suppose to have our wedding on that day and even brought out a key lime pie as a treat. Not much thought or love went into this creation and definitely not worth the cost. The staff were young but attentive, although seemed to have wandered off half way through our lunch and really didn't return except to ask if we wanted to buy more alcohol. At the end of the day, I think if you really are itching for seafood with a view, just take the ferry back to the mainland and eat at any other affordable venues. Similar to another Yelp review, Cru came highly recommended from a friend but I was a little skeptical given some of the ratings from previous patrons. Long story short, it was excellent. It's trendy with a great atmosphere for social gatherings or quiet date nights. It over looks the marina with tons of gorgeous yachts and smaller boats. So beautiful. To me, atmosphere is half the pleasure of going out to eat! Started with dirty martinis, they were excellent, but could have been dirtier and came with more olives. Regardless they were still very good. You must, must, must order the oysters. So fresh! We also had the tuna crudo, it was good. The menu is limited for entrees. I ended up getting the starter mussels as an entree because I was unimpressed with the other options. My boyfriend got the lobster roll with a side salad. The portion was large but thought the $38 price tag was a little ridiculous. Wait staff were friendly. We went for a later dinner, and were sat within 15 minutes. We were seated right away, but the waitress failed to see us for about 10 minutes. When we finally called a hostess over, she apologized and then the manager came over and apologized as well. No free round was offered, which would have been a classy move. The waitress took our drink order and I got the Bad hombre. I love tequila, but unfortunately, this drink wasn't spot-on. It was slightly disappointing. I had the very butter lobster roll for dinner, which came with shoestring french fries. The butter was a bit overwhelming, but I enjoyed it. For $38, I would like two sides, and something more interesting than your standard F/F. My mom enjoyed her Chicken under a brick. We had no room for dessert since we had already been to the Juice Bar for ice cream during the afternoon (good choice!) The decor is upscale without being fussy. I like the wood floors. The restaurant has water views on two sides and we were seated next to the channel, which is great for watching boats. This was my first trip to Nantucket, so we splurged a bit. Like, YIKES, Karen. I am cringing of secondhand embarrassment for you. First of all, I'm pro 20% included tip regardless of circumstances. But ESPECIALLY during a pandemic! While many of us visiting Nantucket have had the privilege of working safely from home during Covid, your servers haven't been afforded that luxury. Every day, your servers got out of bed and walked into a situation where they were putting their health (and livelihood, since testing positive for Covid forces servers out of work for ~2 wk) at risk, just so you could have your favorite little lobster roll with extra butter. You: a person who just dropped $250 for some rose, oysters, and a salad. Also you: I only wanted to tip 15%, not 20%, and that extra $13.50 was totally unacceptable! If I was tipping less than 20% in the *middle of a pandemic*, the last thing I would do was go on Yelp and publicly out myself. You're on Nantucket. Cru is expensive. Look at the prices beforehand. My husband and I ate here for our first night of our honeymoon two weeks ago. We made reservations ahead of time, which was good because it was busy. Most places were still closed or starting to open on island so those visiting flocked to the only places open to eat. I did get a text earlier in the day asking if I'd like to move my table outside inside since it was chilly. I appreciated that option since I know it's stated on the app this isn't usually possible. We were seated in an nice, intimate part of the building. We were never given menus and there were no QR codes on the table to scan or signs about where to get a menu. My husband said he didn't have a chance to take a look. I am not overexaggerating when I say the waiter literally made a slight huff, rolled his eyes and flipped his notepad in his hand to the very last page where there was a QR code, to which he haphazardly shoved in my husband's face to scan. My husband was taken aback, and bless his heart, quickly picked the first thing he saw. As we all know, some restaurants post their menus outside of their building for those interested to take a quick look. Never have I been to a restaurant that expects you to choose from that menu...especially a place as nice (visually) as CRU and branded so high-end. I had already chosen my meal ahead of time when I made the reservations, but my poor husband was very uncomfortable for the rest of the meal. After a long day of travelling to the island, it was disappointing this was our first dining experience of the trip on our honeymoon. The waiter's attitude was very careless the rest of the meal, which was like night/day compared to the experience he gave to the groups surrounding us. I understand those tables were racking up a bill with 4-6 people which would produce a generous tip, but that doesn't mean a table of two deserves a less than positive experience. Aside from that, my lobster roll was great. The little caramel pot we had for dessert was delicious as well. I don't think it really was worth the price paid, but it was on par with the other locations we ate such as Brant Point Grille, the Chanticleer, etc. Unfortunately, I don't think we will be coming back, despite the yummy roll.
