Depoe Bay Winery - Hanging bills & wine tasting.

This is not your typical hard-sell, serious wine tasting experience. The Depot Bay Winery is…read morelocated on the 101 across from the bay. It's a small, cave-like space that may house a half a dozen people. There are no stools, just a tasting menu, a bar in a cave that's filled with dollar bills hanging from the ceiling and off the walls. I wasn't impressed with the wine because a lot of it was sweet fruit wine, which is not my thing. I did buy a bottle, which was overpriced, but this wasn't a high-pressure spiel and only a $10.00 tasting fee per person, which was deducted from the wine purchase. The tasting lasted 15-minutes. Fun, quick and easy!

The winery is inside a small cave with so many dollar bills hanging from the walls and the ceiling. You can actually hang your own dollar bill on the ceiling/wall and decorate it with sharpies that they have on the counter. We really don't carry any cash these days so we didn't have anything to hang on their ceiling or the walls lol. The nice gentleman behind the counter showed us what kinds of wines they had available upon our entry. He explained to us that if we did at least three different tastings, then we would be able to buy a wine bottle for $10 off, in which we agreed upon. We tried the following wines - Chardonnay, peach, pear, and apple jack. My absolute favorites were the Chardonnay and the apple jack, while my boyfriend enjoyed the peach and the pear. The apple jack was kind of like apple juice but with alcohol mixed in. I loved the apple jack so much that we decided to buy a bottle of it. We were told that Depoe Bay Winery is able to ship their wines to Las Vegas, where we're visiting from, and the best part is that there's no sales tax involved when we buy from them when we get back home! Amazing! This is definitely something I'm looking forward to. Will highly recommend this winery to everyone visiting the Depoe Bay area. Great customer service and absolutely great tasting wine.

Coeur de Terre Vineyard was a nice surprise. We had never heard about this winery nor did we plan…read moreto visit this space while in the Willamette Valley; but fortunately, we randomly found out about it and were so glad to check it out on a Sunday afternoon. There are so many different wineries around the Willamette Valley, so it's difficult to choose where to go. And of course, the most popular ones will likely be booked up. But my partner found Coeur de Terre and made a reservation for us to visit this winery in the late afternoon, which ended up being a delightful experience. The vineyard is located far from the city, up on a hill, surrounded by other vineyards and orchards. Just the setting itself is worth visiting. The winery with its own vineyard is spacious, with a large, open building that's open for the public. However, where you want to sit is outside on the patio, which overlooks the hills and vineyard. We had a reservation for 4PM on a Sunday, which was the last hour before closing. We tried six different wines: a chardonnay, pinot gris, rose, syrah and two pinot noirs. Now, we came to Oregon wine country because we wanted to explore pinot noirs, which is king in this part of the country. And I can say that the pinot noirs at Coeur de Terre were solid. I normally would not choose a pinot noir, but Coeur de Terre made me a believer. They grow all of their grapes here at the vineyard, and what I liked most about the pinot noirs is that they were more robust than other pinot noirs I've had. I like my reds more bold and heavy, and these pinot noirs were heavier. We had a wonderful experience here, exploring the pinot noirs and taking in the views and setting. The employee who helped us out was friendly, too. I recommend visiting if you're in the area. Tasting is $25 per person, and is waived with a $75 bottle purchase per person.

We wanted to…read moredo something in the area that wasn't the Tillamook cheese factory and Yelp directed us here. I'm so glad it did. They have a shop with cheese, wine, ice cream, snack options and lots of other items. There is also an area outside where you can sit and enjoy your food. They have animals on the property and we purchased some feed for them inside the shop. It's only $1 a bag so we bought lots and headed out to meet them. I loved spending time with the animals but they were not at all interested in the feed. We happened to be eating a sandwich and they were much more interested in that. They have a wide range of animals, from sheep to alpacas and donkeys and ducks and chickens and even peacocks. There's lots to see. That said, I can't really give them five stars because like a lot of the reviews mention, the state of some of the animals is concerning. As much as I enjoyed interacting with them, there were things about their care and surroundings that made me feel really sad. Something I did really appreciate though is that this location allows you to camp overnight in your RV or van for free. This is a huge perk when you're traveling through the area. Because we got here late in the afternoon. We did end up staying the night, but if you decide to take advantage of that be prepared for the bugs. There were so many bugs. There is plenty to see and do here and this place definitely has a lot going for it. If you're road tripping this is a good place to stop. You can get supplies, spend some time with the animals and have a safe place to spend the night.
