I made a special trip out for their pumpkin latte brioche donuts, the photos looked amazing! Bought some and came home only to discover that the bottoms were burned to a crisp and brioche doesn't make for good dohhnit dough. In short, they were disgusting. So, I posted a comment on their Facebook page only to have them delete it rather than address the failure of their baked goods. This just makes me mad. Own up to it. So you burned a batch, a simple apology is all that's needed.....but nope. They didn't take accountability and now they will never have my business again. read more

LEMON LAVENDER DONUTS!!!!! THIS IS HOW YOU BAKED GOODS. Everything I've ever had from crust was excellent. They have a limited selection compared to some other places, but everything is super fresh. Good selection of specialty foods from Vermont. Great coffee from Armeno (local roaster) which they brew stronger than most places would. Only complaints are that there isn't any seating and the hours are limited. An espresso machine would be nice since I have no doubt they would do a proper cappuccino (which is severely lacking in this city). read more

I moved to an apartment a short walk to Crust and it's been terrible for my wallet and low-carb lifestyle, but EXCELLENT for my taste buds and sanity. Living next to a bakery is amazing on its own, but their unique products such as the tomato goat cheese biscuit, and ham and cheese croissants make it even more excellent. Loved this place. It's been scheduled to open for quite a while now, but I think it finally happened last week, and I tried it. Loved the sesame bagel - so fresh. And the coffee cake muffins were excellent!! Got a couple scones for some friends (honey currant, and cherry) so I can't comment on those just yet. I'm certain as time goes on, they'll have more offerings/options, but what they do have now is great. I'm gonna try their locally roasted coffee next time too. This review is for Crust on West Boylston Street. Excellent food, excellent coffee, excellent and polite employees- however, most times I visit this location I am left disappointed and annoyed at the poor attitude of what seemingly is the manager of this location. I have encountered her scolding her employees loudly on several occasions which is not only extremely toxic but also highly unpleasant and unprofessional when it comes to the customer experience. Who cares if your employee is doing something 100% perfectly to your liking or not if you're bothering the customers with your horrible attitude? She also walks around angrily and aggressively with an upset look on her face and makes me feel uncomfortable. I sometimes avoid coming to this location because I almost feel like I'm in trouble when I arrive if she is present. It's too bad that she gives off such negative vibes because this is otherwise a great store. I visit less because of this. read more

First, let me say that I am giving Crust a qualified 5 stars. No one is doing what they are trying to do here at Crust or at Armsby Abbey and they need to be applauded for that. Farm-to-table is very important to me as is a place to get bread and baked goods made with real ingredients. That said, I would probably give them 4/5 for the results. First the not-so-great. I was surprised to see that one person loved their croissants, because I found mine today way too buttery. The butter overload continued in one of the muffins I tried today. The oatmeal bread we had last time was not very exciting. Was a white loaf with some oats, it seemed to us. Are we wrong? Were there oats ground into the white bread? The good (way more than the bad): the products are not overly sweet, which in our US culture is a BIG problem these days. The croissant was enjoyable and I just think they need to cut the butter a bit to make it lighter like what you get in France. The carrot muffin I sampled was awesome and almost felt healthy for a muffin. They have baguettes. Where else can you get them in Worcester??? Awesome to have another cheese shop nearby. The cookies have all been amazing. I bought bagels today. Will see how they are. Overall crust is great. If they take some of the feedback people give them, they can be off the charts in Central Mass. I have not found Armsby to be too responsive to critique and I hope that they improve on that. As a community we want them to succeed. Feedback is an important part of that. Cost: I did not find them at all overpriced. Today for $24, I got 2 bagels, 1 cookie, 1 croissant, a block of cheese, 1 baguette, 1 muffin. (And a large muffin sample for free.) That seems VERY reasonable to me. read more

Five stars based on pastries alone, but four stars overall because the bread selection is limited (4 kinds, and multigrain only on Saturdays). Highly recommend frangipane (almond paste) tarts. If you love treats, you will be happy here: muffins, scones, cookies, magic bars, oh my. Also coffee + Mighty Leaf teas, but those are beside the point. Love this place and will keep going back despite a few "gentle suggestions". - Monkey bread has truly been unbelievable. Got it once fresh out of the oven and was blown away how delicious. Lately, however, whoever is making the bread is putting too much glaze or sugar on it. It was an incredible balance of dough, crunch and subtle sweetness mixed in every bite. Lately (the past 2 weeks) the sweetness has over run the bread. Too bad, but I'll keep coming back in search of that perfect blend! - Muffins at the beginning of their opening were considerably larger. And for the price, that made sense. Terrible customer service! After buying a couple of baked goods, I've asked for a baguette and was told would be ready in half hour! Showed up half hour later and the same counter person's response was "I can't imagine it's been half an hour". Lady, you don't have to imagine things; you either get a watch or simply ask the baker (which she eventually did and was told it would take 45 more minutes). food and coffee is amazing. Their jalapeno cream cheese on any bagel is delicious. lunch sandwiches are on some of most softest and filling bread. Now only if their customer service matched their food. Walk in and say good morning how are you, just a dead stare back asking what would you like from the older woman. only the younger lady working the cash register was a pleasant interaction. even though its a quick 2 minutes to get your food and drinks, the interaction is why i sometimes don't mind walking extra minute to Garden Fresh down the block. read more

I love this place. (not a surprise, since I also love Armbsy Abbey and Dive Bar.) The baked goods and breads are always fresh, and always interesting. They change daily and always involve seasonal ingredients (like lavender from the owner's garden, or autumn olive foraged by another employee). The coffee is excellent. They serve lunch now, but only on weekdays so I haven't been able to try it (lunch on weekends please!). I wish they had a little counter or a few tiny tables inside for eating in the winter. read more

Yummy! I went around 2 pm on a Saturday. There wasn't too much variety but the quality of what I bought was amazing and delicious. I tried some bread ( can't remember which kind) and a ham & cheese croissant. The croissant was sooooo good!!! Prices weren't cheap but they were reasonable. read more

Some things are awesome (particularly the scones) and some things are just OK (I've gotten a few muffins and, like other reviewers have said, they are too large and bread-y.) I wandered in looking for an early lunch. They went ahead and made my sandwich even though they weren't quite open for lunch yet. I got the Turkey and Havarti with house-made aioli. (It's called the Vermont, or something). It was delicious, all fresh ingredients, with a thick slice/slab of roasted turkey breast. Needless to say, the crusty roll they served it on was a treat. I intentionally waited to write this review until they accepted credit cards (and as of Saturday they do!) and had tried a wide selection of baked goods and let my initial excitement that it opened fade into a more balanced perspective. So onto this delicious unqualified rave: Long live CRUST and all its yuminess inside! Alex and team - bravo for tickling my taste buds and delightfully destroying my waistline! Nothing I have had from Crust has not been very good at least. Almost everything has been excellent, and a few things -- the bacon, egg, and cheese porn muffins; the foccacia; the coffee currant scones; the croissants; and the chocolate bourbon cherry muffins -- have been off the charts. Read on if you want more detail but I suggest starting a Crust slush fund immediately and blocking out any or all activity early Th-Sunday and especially between 915 and 945 when most of the stuff comes out of the oven. I'll say it now -- I am a croissant SNOB. I seek out my favorites in Paris (Gerard Mulot, Laduree), San Francisco (Tartine), and NYC (Kayser, Patisserie Claude) and always try a new one when I can. Usually leads to extreme disappointment. How Crust has managed to nearly perfect croissants within two months of opening happily baffles me. I would say appearance and exterior alone vault them into my top and the flavor and texture of the inside are excellent. This sounds like grade inflation. It is not. Get them. I don't usually flip for a corn muffin but when you turn it into porn with your own bacon, cheese on top, and a tasty egg baked inside, I can't imagine anything on film being its equal. At $7 it might seem high-priced but as a whole dense, delicious breakfast of quality ingredients and amazing flavor not only worth every penny but also a bargain for everything but your heart! Of the constantly changing muffins -- and they are HUGE so prepare to share or be stuffed from one-- the chocolate one and a bourbon apricot one have been our favorites. Breads: Surprisingly, our favorite has been the foccacia just because so many foccacias tend to suck. Crust's is light on the inside, crisp and salty on the top, and just enough olive oil on the bottom that you cannot stop snacking on it.The 48 hr (they now have 72 but have not had yet) sourdough is dense, tangy, and crusty. Perfect for just about anything. The whole wheat is the best thing to happen to cream cheese since the bagels. Speaking of bagels, the sea salt ones are mighty fine... very crusty but plenty of airiness inside. There is nothing like their baguettes within reasonable driving distance and I defy you not to rip the end off before you take a few steps outside. The honey oat just made the best grilled cheese I have had in years. The scones are so good I even like them (my wife is the big fan). Dense but not a rock the flavors rotate constantly and are what I believe a scone should be. Finally, don't miss the chance to drink or pick up a bag of the Amano coffee or any of the amazing cheeses that reflect what Armsby serves next door. Alex prioritizes local/NE artisan food and I am working my way through the jams and pickles so I can report back. But seriously... just go... Nothing new in Worcester has made me this happy in too long. read more

People don't realize the business loses money from credit card transactions. Skip the apple pie. Got one for Thanksgiving figuring t would be superb since we had to order it ahead of time. Apples weren't peeled, inside was loaded with slimy apple peels. Crust was hard and overdone, and since this is the name of the place they should get that right. Paid a lot for an epic Thanksgiving fail that could have been done much better by the supermarket. First and last time I go here. No one ate more than 2 bites. Considering everyone was waiting to try this artisanal pie all night, it was a huge disappointment. read more

Incredible bagels and yummy combos! I recently got a Gruyere bagel with lemon zest cream cheese that was super tasty. If you have jaw problems like me you'll have to pace yourself with their deliciously chewy bagels. It's hard! I went to Crust specifically to try their bread. OUTSTANDING! The baguette was crusty, delicious with a wonderful taste. The focaccia was soft and tender and full of mouth watering taste and the sprinkling of the salt was oh so good. It didn't end there. The Strawberry-Rhubarb Jam & Fennel Doughnut Muffins were deliriously out of this world. Chocolate croissants and a blueberry muffin rounded out our weekend splurge. We stopped there on our way between NY and Beverly, MA and it was so worth it. The young man who gathered our goodies was professional and friendly. We will be back. read more
