I have always heard great things about Crust and have finally had the chance to try it out for myself. The Kale salad that I had was very bland on flavor and almost tasted as if it was made with frozen spinach. For this being a bread/bakery you would assume they would have alternative options for individuals with gluten intolerance, but they didn't seem to have much on the menu catering to those. I am from Fenton originally but now reside in Indianapolis. When I got to Fenton I had heard about this amazing place called Crust. We went and I was extremely underwhelmed. The rear entrance is for emergencies only and has the best parking?!? When we arrived the place just has a real haughty atmosphere. The breakfast biscuit is the only thing saving this review from a one star. The coffee menu needs better descriptions, Crust needs to hire an engineer for better traffic flow and Crusts pay Cash get a discount is trashy and doesn't fit the corner bakeries prestigious atmosphere rather it cries TAX EVASION. read more

Where do I begin?! Our favorite, favorite, favorite place to go! We get our bread here every week. It's fresh and delish! We haven't bought store bread in over a year. The restaurant is fabulous! It's nice to know that the food you're eating is fresh and completely home made. The people making our food have degrees in culinary arts or working on them. The location is very nice with pretty ample parking but crowd flow/management could really use some work. The entrance for the restaurant is shared with the bakery at the front. This creates a traffic jam as you walk in and try to fight your way upstream to head for the host stand. Also, it is LOUD in the dining room. The concrete floors and windows amplify the sound (similar the The Laundry.) Be aware that this really isn't a place for quiet conversation. Service is kind of meh. I have been 3-4 times (not during busy periods) and we have always had to wait longer than expected to be greeted, request items, get the check, etc. That wouldn't be a big deal if we had visited at peak times, but it's awfully hard to justify in a near-empty restaurant with plenty of servers. While the food in the restaurant is OK (entrees, etc.), the star items are the baked goods you can take home. Everyone loves to see you coming with giant cookies, cinnamon rolls and bread. read more

Talk about quality! The pretzel sticks are really good, the sourdough loaf is delicious, the challah bread is too good to be true. Personally, I like their croissants and muffins a lot, but their baguettes are probably the best.The cookies are also quite good, but I was expecting a bit more variety, but maybe I caught them at a time when they were just low on inventory and needed to bake more to put out. And now they have a stand at the Flint Farmer's Market! As for the prices, it's slightly expensive, but the breads are of artisinal quality. They offer a frequent customer rewards card, too, but it takes a long time to pay off. read more

Crust is da bomb. How many calories of Crust-baked-goodness have I consumed? I have no idea - thousands, millions, who cares. The food is amazing. My punch card is all stamped up, and ready for more in the near future. Beautiful breads, plump pies, exquisite pastries. This is a top notch bakery with high quality goods that rotate frequently. They have monthly and seasonal specials for their breads, donuts, pies, cakes, etc. They also serve coffee drinks, breakfast sandwiches, a soup of the day, quiche, sandwiches and salads. Everything I've tried here has been delicious, but the fresh breads (potato garlic rosemary) and fruit pies (strawberry rhubarb or caramel apple) are standouts for me. The fruit pies are not overly sweet (the cherry rhubarb was pretty tart), and you can choose from a double pie crust or crumble top - it's a win win situation here. The interior is quite small which is compounded by the heaps of baked goods behind glass and stacked up on the counter. It can be a tad overwhelming if it is busy in there and you don't know what you want because there isn't a lot of room to sit back and gawk. However, Crust is in the process of expanding, so hopefully they will get the much needed extra space. More space, more treats! read more

i'm really at 3.5 stars. Some things are GREAT but my experience has been very inconsistent. Bug bars are always great. The breads are uniformly really good. Pies are often great. We don't have a great artisanal bakery Brighton adjacent so Fenton's Crust is about as close as it gets. I'd heard good things about Crust so my wife and I ventured up to see what it was all about. First off, this place is nutso busy on Saturday mornings, you've been warned. I think people come here from all around the area to get decent baked goods knowing that this is likely the only game in town. When we arrived the dining room was packed, the patio was half full and the bakery line was bustling and building. I loved that they have a variety bag of bread ends already bagged up for purchase, to make croutons or to try a few different types of their loaves. They also have jams and sandwiches featured in a cooler. We came for some croissant though. I ordered an almond croissant, a lemon scone, a piece of strawberry rhubarb pie, a strawberry rhubarb donut with lemon glaze, and one of their famous PB&J donuts. We paid and skedaddled since it was getting busier. I would've liked to have tried their coffee and bought some bread and cookies to try but the bill adds up really quick here. We took our treats home and unveiled them a little later after exploring Fenton further. The donuts were pretty good if a little heavier and less airy of a dough. The PB&J was pretty solid and tasted, yup, like a PB&J. The strawberry rhubarb pie and the donut were also pretty good. The star of the show was the almond croissant. I really appreciate that they don't use almond extract to flavor them. Bleck! They do make a nice almond filling however and the pastry is flaky and totally delightful. The lemon scone was OK but I didn't get much lemon from it. I think it needed a lemon glaze and lotsa zest. I'd like to try their bread although it was a little spendy at $9+ a loaf for some varieties. Maybe it's that good though. A follow-up visit will decide. 3.5 stars read more

Love this bakery, the breads are as good as i have had and i know bread my uncle owns a great bakery in Europe. They are pricey, typically $5+ a loaf, but it's not that sponge crap they try to pass off as bread in the supermarkets and these wanna be bakeries. This bakery offers bread, cookies, pies, croissants, pastries everything you can think of. If you want a pie call and order one, trust me they won't have any left by the time you get their and the pies are $20+ I drive over 50 miles one way to come here and i do it every other month, but it's worth it. Best name for a REAL bakery...CRUST That's the way bread should be CRUSTY not like a sponge. Keep that wonder bread for those without a palette. Crust is yummy, don't get me wrong. But the restaurant part, I'm not so much a fan of. The food was alright, the seating is sorta awkward and not comfortable and the atmosphere didn't feel cozy. Oh my goodness this place is yummy! You have to walk past the bakery counter and you want to buy one of everything. So the restaurant is in the back of the building with nice light and lots of windows. I always get the eggs Benedict Florentine. It's the roasted tomato on it that just tastes so good. Crust is one of the first places that I had to try in Fenton; their famous for their cinnamon rolls! I was hungry for lunch though, so I ordered the veggie sandwich. It's served on an onion role with cream cheese and avocado and it is sooo good! I also got the nutty Irishman soy latte which was excellent. And since my fiancés fav comfort food is PBJ I picked up a giant square cut PBJ donut! It was coated in crunchy PB and filled with fruit jelly. Absolutely over the top good... We only ate a quarter at a time! The bakery itself is rustic and quaint with old wooden furniture making up their displays and seating. I try to limit my intake of sweets and carbs but Crust is worth every calorie! I will be back for special occasions and whenever visitors come to town. read more

I love this bakery. The breads are beautiful and taste delicious. That said, I have had consistently rude service at the counter from a woman with short hair every time I go in to purchase items. On Sunday at 4:30 there was only a short line of three people but she didn't want to check on the ingredients in a loaf of bread and only reluctantly did so after she saw I was spending over $35 on cinnamon rolls. So please improve your attitude Crust because that is not how I'd want my employee to act! This place is truly awesome otherwise. Just wanted to update my last review! Once again, the same rude service from the same woman with dark short hair at the counter last Saturday night. Does she know how to be pleasant or smile? Perhaps someone could teach her how? I ordered a custom cake from the Crust Bakery and it turned out wonderful excellent perfect!! I kept it kind of simple so I could add fresh cut flowers and a cake topper to it. Amy was very quick with emails on creating the perfect cake for my event. Couldn't have asked for a better experience! I got a chiffon (white) cake with raspberry filling, white frosting, a chocolate ganache drip over the top, with a ring of cappuccino tiramisu macaroons around the bottom. It was ready right at 7am on the day of pickup and they made sure to go over the cake order with me, and all the "baby your cake" instructions :) I would recommend ordering your next birthday/wedding/anniversary/retirement/graduation/bridal shower/baby shower/or any sort of cake from the Crust !! read more

This local bakery is completely top notch. They are famous for their cinnamon rolls but I was so intrigued by some of their other options that I decided on the PB & J donut and the s'mores brownie. I tried some of their cherry jam and a friend's house as well and looooved it. Oh. My. God. The donut was phenomenal, honestly one of the best I've ever had. The peanut butter glaze was amazing, sweet and sugary but with a rich peanut butter flavor. The jelly center was a blackberry jam, homemade, chunky and rich. Very much a gourmet interpretation! From our enthusiastic server who recommended some outstanding drinks and food, to the bartender and host who came and made sure everything was excellent. I'm particular about food so I was thrilled to get my hands on a true sourdough bread that doesn't use instant yeast on our trip to Michigan. It's healthier this way because it's more nutritious and easier to digest than conventional breads. On the unhealthy side, I've tried the delicious peanut butter and jelly donut. Glad I cheated on my diet for that one, because it was worth it. Try it! Their coffee is also good, as are the gluten-free sweets. I see they ship nationwide so that is pretty cool. Today we are on our way to the airport and I stopped in for a loaf of the 104 Sourdough. I had them slice half for eating on the plane (I packed some grass-fed butter in a TSA approved container and sea salt). The other half will go in the suitcase to eat once we get home. If I had one wish it'd be that they use organic flours and ingredients. If they did I'd be doing cartwheels for them. I still give them five stars though. read more

All the breads that Crust makes are very good. I buy them at Westborn Market in Plymouth. BUT , now to the apple pie. It was an expensive lesson at $10.99 for their mini apple pie. I give that pie zero stars. It was mostly crust, and not good crust. Sorry to say that Pillsbury in the red box is exceptionally good compared to this pie crust. I was shocked that they could make such good bread but not pie crust. The two tablespoons of apple filling was good. If you want a delicious apple pie, go to Plymouth Orchards. It is THE BEST apple pie! The apples are tender, not mushy, the seasoning is perfect , and the crust is tender, flaky and delicious. Sorry Crust, but you need to go back to the drawing board for your pie crust. Plymouth Orchards is open until the day before Thanksgiving. Then not more until nest September. read more
