It should have occurred to me a long time ago that this shop was perfectly positioned for postal runs, pastries and shoe repairs. Ninth Street has several of my favorite spots and after receiving so so hemming from a dry cleaning and alterations place uptown, I figured that if a shop can make custom suits and shirts from fabrics on display, then they have the skills to alter my jeans and slacks so they fit so perfectly that a belt is rendered optional! Enter Cruz Tailoring, more specifically, Miguel the namesake and proprietor. It's a family operation and they did exceptional work! Consider my debut audition: In the past I went to a European tailor in Redlands, and while they are awesome, it's simply too far away to be practical. Therefore, I decided to bring three pairs of very, very expensive slacks and jeans from the John Varvatos signature line. Materials included linen and linen/cotton blends that require skill to alter. The Task: Fit the waist and raise the hem so they break just so regardless of the shoes or boots I wear. I could tell immediately they are master craftsmen, they because another fellow started the complex fitting marks with chalk and a ruler, and Miguel finished up. He gave me a professor's discount since we're broke typically, and because I advised his daughter who is starting college where I teach. The Results: I forgot to mention that I got these back less than 24-hours later on a Saturday!!! I tried all three on in the fitting room and couldn't be more pleased. Perfection! Amazing how much the off-the-rack stock fit can still make a person look funny, but not anymore. I was so happy to find a replacement tailor that I brought two more pairs of Varvatos jeans in for TLC. Same story, done within 24-hours and fit like $600+ jeans you see celebrities wearing. HIGHLY recommend! Where to start.. I could cry. My (now) husband found Cruz on yelp. He and his groomsmen brought their suits in for some small alterations (shorten hem, sleeves, etc.), but Miguel with his sharp eye ended up giving them completely custom fits. Their suits were done in a week and they were really happy with them. The day the guys picked up their suits, I was picking up my wedding dress from another tailor. I called hubby, upset because the other tailor not only ignored some of my requests, but did a poor job on the things she did do. Hubby made an appointment for me with Miguel right then and there. The wedding was 2 weeks away and I was frustrated, skeptical, exhausted. But I'm SO glad I went to Cruz. Miguel was my very own fairy godmother(father). He cut the length exactly how I wanted (something the other tailor just decided not to do because she liked the train), pulled in the sides (something the other tailor didn't think needed to be done), and he even REDID the straps and corset because they had been done so poorly. I was told it would be $18 each but $25 for the original stitching. I insisted on the original stitching and paid my $50. When I wore the pants at home, I noticed the stitching was different from other parts of the pants. I went in today and showed them my pants and asked for the extra charges as they didn't do the job like original stitching. Cruz himself came out and said that is difficult to do. I said no problem but why should I pay for the overcharging?! He said that's for hemming. I reminded him the length was untouched. He created some other BS about it was a difficult job. I told him he didn't call me to authorize the up-charge without doing what they had charged extra originally. They have have the ability to measure and cut a straight line but no abilities to follow directions or accomplish difficult tasks. (I didn't know stitching could be rocket science). Years ago I came here to get my bridesmaids and my dress tailored. I referred other people. I ended up leaving the dress overnight and picking the dresses up the next morning because the bride decided to change the color of her bridesmaid dress. Yes, we were all annoyed. Miguel didn't start working on any of the dresses and our initial interaction was short. We just told him how much to cut for each dress. When I went to pick up the dresses he charged me $20 per dress without doing any work on them and just keeping them overnight. He specifically told me no work was done. As a college student at the time I felt jjipped and it was dishonest of him to charge us anything for no work done. There was no overnight fee listed anywhere.. he made it up on the fly. I was also a reoccurring customer at the time. After that transaction I did not step foot at his shop again. There's a lot of good reviews about his work and I enjoyed the work he did for me in the past (nothing difficult) but for me it's the honesty factor of it all. This is a very small mom and pop shop, but they definitely care about you. My boyfriend needed his pants tapered, so he called in and they gave him an estimate for one pair of pants, which averages $25. When we came, the tailor pinned the sides of his pants and asked for approval. We both liked it, so he said it would take about a week to finish. We came in on a Wednesday, but that next Monday he called and told us they were already finished! They were tapered perfectly, and he loved the fit. i went down to this cruz tailoring because it's only a few minutes away from my house. i took in 5 pairs of slacks to get them hemmed, on that day i took my wedge shoes to specifically let him know the length i wanted. Of course put them on he took measurements. went to go pick them up 1 wk after. i hadn't worn them since i've been working from home, on such day i go to put one of the slacks on and noticed it is toooo short!!! i decided to go back and inform him and he tells me that maybe i washed them or maybe someone else did that!! i replied i think u show know your work! very very disappointed with this place never again read more

He was able to take the pants in drastically in the crotch and fix the jacket so that it fit right instead of hanging off of me. I can't comment on the quality of the alterations. If you are coming here to rent a tuxedo, don't. It doesn't warrant the additional effort required to receive back your deposit. The fit was mediocre. The price was $220 for a rental that didn't look or feel better than average. He says he told my husband that the rental had to be returned before 1:00 PM by the next business day in order to get the deposit back, but he did not. He said he wrote it on the receipt--he did not (I have the receipt). He said he had the policy clearly posted on the tuxedo garment bag...and then pointed to the logo of the company he rents from (???). There was nervous stuttering on his part when I said, "That says Jim's Formal Wear." The problem is this: he is closed on Sundays. Our event was on Saturday. In order to return the tuxedo and receive back my deposit, I had to go between 9:00 and 1:00 on a Monday. I can't take time off work to return a tuxedo. When I pointed this out to him, he threw his hands up in the air and said, "I'm not trying to cheat anybody!" I never said he was trying to cheat me, but clearly it's something he has heard in the past. read more

I had to get some last minute alterations on my suit for my buddy's wedding about a month ago. I called up Miguel and he took me in for my measurements about 15 minutes after I called. He got my suit done a day and a half later and when I put it on I decided I wanted the bottom of my pant legs a little higher. What up everyone! As a Filipino guy of regular Filipino stature, I'm about 5'6" and like my clothes to take on that fitted look. So as it goes, a lot of the pants I buy aren't really made for guys like me, with my smaller butt and not as huge legs. I take all of my pants, literally, all of my pants to Cruz Tailors. He measures me up, and tapers and hems my pants perfectly from the inseam all the way down, and when I get them back, you wouldn't know that the pants didn't come like that straight out of a J. Crew catalog. I've also taken some blazers, sportcoats, and suits here to get taken in on the side and the arms taken up, and they've done a spot-on job. But as usual, when you take a coat to get tailored, it helps a lot when the jacket already fits around the shoulders, and is a good length. As for all of you women, I can't really write an accurate review for how he does on dresses, blouses, and things of that nature, but based on how they do on my own things and how they take care of you, I definitely feel like you should be confident in bringing your sweet threads here. Their turnaround time is usually a couple days, but it depends on when you need something done. If you tell him you really need something on a time crunch, they may be able to get it done for you even quicker, but I guess it's a case-to-case basis. Price-wise, I feel like they're competitive. They're definitely not the cheapest around here, but also definitely not the most expensive. With tailoring, I feel like you have to kind of gauge getting for what you pay for. If you take your clothes here to get tailored, at least you know you'll be getting a job well done. If you don't care how much you pay and just want some slash work done, hit me up, I have some scissors, a needle, and thread... I'll only charge you half. read more

This is where I go to get all my clothes tailored now. If your new to this place bring a test garment. I know it sounds funny but buy a cheap shirt or pant or jacket from walmart and have them show you what they can do to the garments to make them look better. I say this because if you bring in the actual garment you want and they adjust it a little too tight theres usually no going back as they can't add fabric. So bring a test garment. If you like what they do they bring your actual garment you want tailored. Pros: friendly store. wide selection of mens clothing and accessories made to measure available once they get your measurements how you like they remember and adjust all acordinly cons sometimes there a bit of a wait, not instant turn around parking can be a hassel as you have to pay for side parking mon- fri if there is any only one fitting room ( besides the bathroom in the back) so if its busy you have to wait. so far I've had about 6 pairs of pants tailored here. So far so good. Everyone enjoys coming here. The day I came in o saw like 4 other people all were having a good time shootin the shit with each other like they were friends.
