We came for dinner on a weeknight and this place was hopping. The restaurant was packed and we had to wait a good 25 minutes for a table. Overall plenty of seating, well lit, clean, beautiful table arrangement with floral center pieces. For appetizers, we had the Golden bags. My four year old son actually tried to open the bags up when I placed one on his plate. That of course is not how you eat this dish. The inside is filled with chicken and corn. It came with a sweet dipping sauce that you didn't really need since the filling was already well seasoned. I would order this again. We also ordered the Thai beef salad. This dish is spicy. It's the right amount of spice for me but for anyone who is not used to having spicy food, I would caution you when trying this dish. The only thing I wished was done differently was that used a different cut of beef. If they had used seared beef flank instead, and coated the beef with toasted rice powders, and if they could have added some fresh mint and some thinly sliced purple onion for color. But I am digressing. It's still overall a very good dish. Great amount of spice, saltiness from the fish sauce and sourness from the lime juice. We made a rookie mistake when ordering. You know when you order an item just because there are multiple pictures of that item on Yelp or because it has the restaurant name so you automatically assume it's their signature dish. For entree, I DO NOT recommend ordering the Crying Tiger steak. I know it has the name of the restaurant on it and there are multiple pictures of it on Yelp but it is the most flavorless and dry steak I have ever had and it may leave you crying. Absolutely not worth it and will not order again. The tom yum soup noodle soup was as expected. There was way too much rice noodle. The minced pork, fish balls, and the oily fried wonton chips that topped it off all caught me off guard. When I think of tom yum soup, I think of a fragrant lemongrass broth with a sour soup base. The soup was sour but it had so much going on. I am not recommending it since all of the ingredients, flavors, and textures seems to be conflicting with one another. I have to say, the Pad Thai was one of the best I have had. The thin rice noodles were just slightly chewy and not over cooked. I recommend you ask for both shrimp and chicken pad Thai. We also tried both the Thai iced tea and the Thai coffee. I prefer the Thai iced tea over the Thai iced coffee any day of the week. We didn't have room for dessert since we ordered two appetizers and three entrees for two people. Overall good food, great atmosphere, great service. I will definitely be coming back. Solid Thai food! Fast takeout service and fresh food. I ordered three appetizers and 2 entrees and was very impressed. We did the shu mai fried, crab Rangoon, and scallion pancake. We did drunken noodles and the garlic chicken dish extra spicy. When you tell them you want spicy they do a good good job of making it spicy. Drunken noodles with shrimp was FANTASTIC and they were good about the shrimp not too little but not too generous. The garlic chicken I always wish chicken was juicier but it's normal for Thai food. The sauce was spicyyyy and I loved that. Overall great experience. The restaurant also looks cool inside I think it was a great casual date spot and has an awesome menu with a nice variety of all types of dishes and have seasonal specials. read more

Where do I even begin? It was a magical evening catching up with an old friend. It was his suggestion and it did not disappointed . I took a chance and parked in the Yong Yong parking lot because there wasn't street parking available. Luckily, I was not towed. Magtek, our server was attentive and cordial. We ordered our food and within a matter of a minutes that steamy spicy goodness arrived at our table. I ordered the Tom Kha soup and the Pad Kee Mow with chicken. This place is super cute and the food here is delicious. I came here on a Thursday night and was seated immediately. I ordered the crying ribeye and my boyfriend ordered the crying pork. Both were tender and very well flavored, out of the two dishes I think I would preferred the pork more just because it was soo soft and I really liked that there was a good amount of fatty pork. We also ordered the quail eggs for appetizer...it was alright, I wouldn't order it again. They just tasted like regular eggs with soy sauce on them. for dessert, we got the coconut custard, which was pleasantly warm and just the right amount of sweetness. very yummy, would definitely come back again. read more

I am sooooooo sad that I finally tried this place one month before I move to western MA. I've always been curious, but I never tried it until now! They make THE BEST pad Thai I ever had. Actually pretty much everything I tried was amazing: crab Rangoon, a bite of my bf's rib eye, the real coconut water... soooo good. I also tried the roti bread with green curry sauce. If that's the sauce they use for the main green curry dish - omg. I need to order that next. I also need the recipe for the sauce ASAP! My fellow diners and I ordered the following: *Pineapple fried rice - sweet, spiced, raisins, pineapple, chicken, onion in a wet fried rice *Crying thaiger curry - best dish out of everything, homey, spicy red curry with broccoli, peppers, carrots, and chicken *Roti with green curry - very flaky pastry with green curry , not the usual soft and chewy on the inside but just straight up flakey pie crust *Pad see ew with pork - fine, good flavoring, good stir fried flavor *Honey braised ribs - fall off the bone meat in a super sweet and delicious sauce (4 per order) *Thai omelet with crab paste - good omelet, little bit of crab paste *Lychee - canned lychee with ice *Coconut pudding - small sauce dishes with pudding, you can keep the little dishes as souvenirs! * Coconut jelly - served in a coconut, coconut jelly in coconut water The Thai iced tea is tiny for $3.25 but delicious. Service was rough around the edges with the waitress playing ping pong with our heads and always shoving us to the side so they can grab plates or put plates down. The layout and design is cute. Their play on words and their logo of crying thaiger with spoons and forks to design the tiger is cool. With so many Thai options in Boston it's a good addition to Malden, especially because they offer dessert options. There's street parking or the lot across the street on the weekends. We came here with a big birthday party (around 15 of us) so the first thing that I was impressed by is how efficient and quick they were at getting our orders right and getting them out fast. It was a rainy day, the decor was cool and the restaurant had a fragrant smell of freshly cooked thai food. I was very excited. Some of us shared the quail eggs and fish cakes to start - the fish cakes came with a sweet chili sauce and peanut that complimented them very well. I then shared the Shrimp Pad See Ew and the Massaman Curry with Chicken Thigh . The noodles in the pad see ew were perfectly cooked, and did not stick together as they sometimes do. There also was plenty of sauce without being disgustingly heavy. The Massaman curry was peanutty, creamy, and lightly sweet. The portions are abundant so I would definitely say you get your bang for your buck. No matter how full you may be by the end of your meal, make sure you leave some room for the mango with sticky rice. This was the best mango I have had in a long while, especially in Boston - so fresh and pulpy! It was served with a delicious sweet cocont creat and homemade sticky rice - a must try! read more

Good but I think I was expecting more. Ordered the beef tongue appetizer and I wish the dip had garlic and cilantro in it like the picture. The sauce was a little too sweet for me. The beef was seared nicely. For an entree I ordered the crying thaiger spicy noodles soup. Honestly not spicy at all. Had to ask for dried pepper on the side. Surprised they didn't provide the condiments. Nothing special. Flavors were underwhelming. My bf got the krapow with chicken and he enjoyed it but thought it was too sweet. Inside is cute. The cups are super cute. The food was okay. Maybe we didn't try the right things?? I saw a pumpkin custard on the menu. I got the crispy pad thai and it tasted like....nothing. And it was just oily. I've never had to add anything to pad thai before this occasion. We also got the spring rolls and gyoza which were fine, but again were lacking flavor. At least the dipping sauces helped there (then I again I was basically soaking them in hot sauce or soy sauce). I'd like to say the coconut ice cream redeemed them but the container was half whipped cream. Mim, our server, is so sweet and attentive. I like the modern design of the restaurant. Some customers may dislike the cheesy Thai pop in the background. I wanted to try everything on the menu (tip, may need magnifying glass to read the menu. The take out version is fine but the dine in one is blurry). While we waited for the food, they gave us complimentary shrimp chips. Interesting take on the appetizer because they paired with spicy chili oil/sauce. Who knew? I used to eat them as is. Shrimp woosen - peppery noodles with squidgy meat and shrimp served in a claypot. Ginormous portion that can be split with 3 people. Love the smoky aroma that cannot be achieved with regular pots. Crying Thaiger signature dish - beef brisket served on sizzling plate. Server recommended sticky rice vs jasmine. It was def a better option but i didn't know there was an extra charge (yes, the menu was so hard to read). A lot of reviewers mentioned the meat being tough. Mim told us to eat as soon as you can because the meat is still cooking on the sizzling plate. To avoid being overcooked (and dont want to choke to death by eating ASAP), please move them over to an empty place. I have been to Thailand before and this place brings me back to the amazing food I had there and also love the laid back and authentic feel of the restaurant. This is a very cute and quaint restaurant. The hostess and I believe manager/owner were so friendly and helpful. I did order takeout, but waited inside until my order arrived. I ordered the red curry with tofu and the side of fried vegetable dumplings. It was a lunch special so it also came with a salad. The tofu wasn't really seasoned at all and the curry wasn't really spicy as they stated(mildly spicy), but somehow the dish tasted pretty good. I think it was because of the rice which was deliciously seasoned with a hint of coconut. The fried dumplings were made without eggs since I requested only vegan food, and they were small but still delicious. The salad was just a normal salad. I think the curry meal will taste even better once it marinates a little ie. leftovers. Overall, my meal was good and my experience with the staff was very positive. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Crying Thaiger is my new favorite Thai food in the Boston area (and I looooove me some Thai food!). I've eaten from here at least a dozen times, mixing it up between delivery and eating in person. For the true Crying Thaiger experience, definitely stop by in person, as the interior is super charming and the service is wonderful. Highlights from my ongoing attempts to sample my way through their menu include: -Crying Thaiger's Curry - If you enjoy Thai curries, this one has a bit of a unique flavor that goes beyond your typical Red / Yellow / Green curry options (while still feeling like you can satisfy your curry craving) -Crying Thaiger Spicy Noodle Soup - The perfect blend of tangy and sweet broth (enough for two meals!) -Duck Noodle Soup - Rich and flavorful, with perfectly cooked duck -Kra Pow (Basil) - A faithful rendition of a classic, delicious Thai dish -Roti with Green Curry - Light, crispy, and addictive curry sauce The Pad Thai and Massaman Curry are also staples that I've found myself ordering over and over. The only dish I've had here that I don't think I'd order again would be the Thai BBQ pork skewers. The meat was much too fatty for my liking, but maybe that's just a personal preference. Overall though, I can't sign Crying Thaiger's praises enough, and I'm *always* looking for an excuse to come here. read more

Literally best Thai I've had!! I ordered delivery and will most DEFINITELY go in next time!!! The delivery was through Uber eats and that came at a good time. However, ABOVE AND BEYOND was the packaging of the delivery! I've never had such crispy items delivered! They took the time to melt little holes in the cover so that condensation wouldn't ruin the dish! Also, food is great and on point. I accidentally ordered crispy pad Thai but I'm glad I got to try something new! Curry is rich and flavorful, not too soupy or salty. Beef tongue was a nice texture and very nicely done. Honey ribs were really good and melt off the bone. The crispy pork is phenom. And pad Thai is on point for flavors and the pork in the pad Thai was juicy and not dry like other places. I also got the clay pot with class noodles and shrimp. This is super tasty but I think clay pot might be best saved for in restaurant eating (the glass noodles get a bit sticky) but it does taste really great - garlicky and gingery with tender shrimp. read more

Also the waitress asked what kind of noodles I wanted but did not mention that there were different prices for different noodles and charged me $2 extra. I've probably eaten or gotten takeout from this place about 75 times since I wrote my first review a couple of years ago. It's has been in a weekly rotation. Today I am giving them a big downgrade. Over the last year or so I have noticed the Pad Thai is hit or miss. Sometimes the noodles are good, other times they are dry. I figure they must cook a giant vat of it and then mix in the meat choice that people order. Therefore, how good your noodles taste depends on the random chance of how much Pad Thai they are selling that day and how fresh your noodles are. I get it, cost control, but this isn't $6 pad thai here. It's $11 for chicken or tofu. There should be plenty of margin to make smaller batches so that only freshly cooked noodles are sold out the door. Here's the bigger issue: the Pad Thai meat is almost always a problem. I usually go for the chicken and 75% of the time it is a bunch of dry, flavorless slices. My GF stopped ordering the chicken completely due to this. I decided to try the beef $2 upgrade, what a ripoff by the way, and the meat that came with it was absolutely DISGUSTING. It tasted like it had been cooked in a microwave and the lack of saute marks confirms that. It was so foul, I threw the beef in the garbage. Needless to say I was disappointed enough to spend 30 minutes writing this new review. I also order the curries a lot. The Massaman Curry is $15 and uses a higher quality chicken thigh meat, and you get a big chunk of it. The flavor is usually pretty good but they miss on this one sometimes too. Sometimes the sauce is really watery. These are two staples of Thai food that likely have a lot of people ordering and really should be perfect almost every time. I've been to the restaurant several times and it the people there are very friendly, the food is great, and they now serve beer and wine which is a plus. This is my go-to places to order from (and ahem, ordering has become significantly frequent during COVID). Last time we ordered Nampla Wings, scallion pancakes, spring rolls, Pad See Ew, Thai Wings, Dumplings, and Pad Thai (this is for two people, but yes I realize it's a lot of food...I like a little bit of a lot). Adorable & quaint Thai restaurant in the middle of Malden. I like that they have specialty dishes of all sorts: bowls, pad Thai, and a delicious cashew chicken & shrimp!! It comes in a fried bowl. Thai food is my favorite type of cuisine and since my visit to Thailand, I'm always on the search for authentic Thai food here in the states. So far, it hasn't happened, but Crying Thaiger has a unique menu to try to offer authentic cuisine, which is much appreciated! I've ate in and ordered delivery many times. My favorite is the drunken noodles - perfect amount of spice and flavor. We've also tried chicken wings (just okay), and sautéed fried chicken entree (not worth it as it's too dry). They also offered bubble tea last time I was there and it was delish! A filling meal for two is ~40. We've had the misfortune of chicken being too dry for several of the times we've dined in and they could either be getting it from a bad farm or overcooking it. They have a HUGE menu that I definitely want to come back to explore further, but my first visit here was kinda a miss. We ordered the Roti with Green Curry, Chive Cakes, and the Crying Tiger. All were decent, but far from phenomenal. The Roti with Green Curry was probably the biggest letdown. The Roti was soft and felt undercooked and bland. I'm sure it was fully cooked, but it lacked color and texture and was more like a sad vessel for the mild curry. PASS on the roti. You can definitely find better out there - in texture, color, and flavor! The Chive Cakes were hearty and a solid dish. They were long, rectangular, pretty dense chunks that will fill you up with bite after bite of chewy chive goodness. I knew I HAD TO GET the Crying Tiger since it is the namesake of the restaurant, but I was a little disappointed in its mediocrity. It was a grilled steak with some flavorful soy sauce-y/fish sauce-y sauce for dipping. But it was pretty simple, straightforward, and definitely lacking in the pizzaz that most Thai / Southeast Asian dishes have. Overall - there's a lot on this menu and more to explore but my first attempt thus far has been pretty average at best. read more

Visited on a Sunday night in October 2018. We were a group of 10 looking for an Asian restaurant in Malden after an evening at Borda Borg. We just walked to the restaurant as we were already in Malden. We didn't have to wait long to get seated, they joined tables to accommodate our group without hesitation. Best local Thai food in Malden! FOOD: I've had the food from Crying Thaiger multiple times, but finally got around to writing this review! I ordered the drunken noodles w/ beef, pineapple fried rice w/ seafood and the nampla wings. I also paired it with an iced Thai tea. The drunken noodles were and has always been my favorite. I asked for it to be very spicy, and my mouth was burning (the good kind). The beef was more like sliced pieces of steak and was cooked nicely! The pineapple fried rice w/ seafood is delicious and the smell of the curry mixed in with the rice is phenomenal. Not to mention the pieces of seafood are large. The nampla wings were sweet, but slightly fishy (which I didn't mind!) Nampla literally means fish sauce, so if you're sensitive to smell, you may want to try their other wing styles. Their Thai tea is good! I've had better, but it satisfies my cravings when I need it. One downside: I wished they didn't package the drink inside my takeout package. I would rather hold it for more stabilization. Unfortunately, it spilled a bit inside the bag and seeped through the entire bottom of the paper bag :/ SERVICE: At the moment, they are only doing take-out, and their COVID-19 restaurant take-out regulations are on point and organized! This place isn't in my normal rotation when I go out to eat... and I don't know why! The food here is really good! Especially when it's a cold day out.. there's nothing like adding some spice in your life to keep you warm! I didn't realize what the "crying" part meant until I ordered my food. There is definitely a kick to it! Now.. don't be scared off by that. They have everything from mild to crying your eyes out hot! So there's something for everyone... which is nice. I'm happy to say I left here stuffed like a clam... err.. tiger? I only ordered an appetizer, and my crew ordered various sizes between small plates and regular/shareable plates. And they're shareable! You could feed the whole restaurant with some of these plates!
