The outside of this establishment is very generic but when you step inside quaint and trendy describe the decor. Now let's talk food. We ordered Chicken satay for the appetizer and the meat melted in your mouth and the spices were perfect. We also had the Thai tea iced which hit the spot. We then ordered chicken basil and chicken yellow curry. Both dishes were perfect. The aromatic basil combined with the tender chicken and vegetables were perfectly seasoned. One of my favorite Thai places in the area! Huge portions and everything tastes quite authentic and bold in flavor! Their spice levels are no joke so be careful, I love spice but I stick to medium here because the spice level above that are sometimes inconsistent and painful. The papaya salad is the best I've found in Boston, and we are obsessed with their basil fried rice with crispy chicken. This is easily two or more meals for me and is still amazing as leftovers! Phenomenal! This place has an incredible menu. I had the pad thai and the signature dumplings. The dumplings were some of the best i've ever had. They don't skimp on the filling at all. My food was delivered quickly, still piping hot, and not in tons of unnecessary wasteful packaging which is a huge plus to me. My boyfriend had this delivered for me while he was away so I went with items that I thought would still be just as delicious delivered. The only reason to cry is I didn't try this place sooner. I ordered the Drunken Noodles and Chive Dumplings, and both were amazing. I got the regular spicy level for the noods. I know I have a weak palate, but I was sweating over the spice level. I wouldn't go back though and pick the mild. I wish the pork was cut into smaller pieces, but that is my only complaint about the dish. Everything else was a good mix of flavors and texture and size. We went to eat it nearby by a bench, and we noticed that there were holes in the takeout containers--we thought: what a great idea, to keep things crispy and avoid it getting soggy. But we were wrong--the chive dumpling we got were super greasy. Truly dissapointing. We ended up throwing one out because we couldnt eat it. Crying Thaiger is one of two Thai eateries in the greater Boston area I've been to since returning from Thailand that actually reminds me of the foods I had there. One dish was so gross one ok. I came here yesterday with my bf and both our meals were not good. I ordered noodles and got very little noodles and 95 percent of the meal was meat. It also was very salty. The pad Thai noodles my bf got were drenched in some weird sauce and it overpowered the whole dish. I don't recommend this place. We were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant in Malden, of all places. After Boda Borg (the only reason one goes to Malden...!), a group of 4 of us were starving and ready for some Thai food! A friend had mentioned this place before to me, and while I was skeptical I thought there was nothing to lose. This is probably the best Thai food I've had in Boston so far! Granted that's not saying much, but we were truly surprised by how delicious the curry was. The menu was extremely expansive, with a good mix of traditional dishes and more "authentic" dishes. Our Malaysian friend even mentioned that the food was delicious. Our least favorite dish was probably the wings and the pad see ew. Our glass noodles dish, my husband's pad thai, our curry, and the crab rangoon were all delicious, with affordable prices. I ordered food from here a while back through UberEats and I was not really impressed. I got Crying Wings, Honey Ribs and Tom Zaab Beef (soup). I was so disappointed that this Tiger wanted to cry....smdh. The wings tasted similar to the random, preseasoned wings that they offer at most pizza shops. In addition to the basic flavor, they were very salty. Keep in mind I am not one of those salt sensitive people and I don't mind when things are a little saltier than usual. I am still searching for the honey in the ribs. They were in a dark brown sauce that was soooo salty I needed loads of water to wash it down. If there was actually honey in there it was obliterated by the sodium overload. The only good thing is the fact they were really tender. The Tom Zaab Beef was not bad, it was okay at best. It was not spicy as they claimed it would be and I could taste onion more than anything. It definitely did not hit the spot like I hoped it would. Crying thaiger hidden gem in the center of Malden. I enjoyed their thai wings they were crispy on the outside and tender in the inside. By far one of the best fried wings I've encountered in a while. The sauce that the wings came with was sweet and tangy which complimented each other well. I wish I didn't get the side of brown rice only because I'm never fond of it. Low and behold I was not. I have been here several times and they have great food. The review is for their customer service. I wanted to go for lunch the other day at approximately 2:37pm. The hours posted on their website, their door, and their Yelp page all say that lunch ends at 2:45. Despite being there well before 2:45, they would not seat me. They told me that 2:30 is the last seating. I have no problem with your lunch service ending at 2:30, but I think you owe it to your customers to be honest about that. You state in multiple places that your lunch service ends at 2:45, not 2:30. You owe it to your customers to be honest about your policies. While the food is good, I am really disappointed about being turned away well before 2:45 for lunch. Edit: I now see this on their Yelp page: "Best Thai restaurant in Malden serves Lunch and Dinner. Please note that our kitchen closes 15 minutes before closing, 2:45PM for Lunch and 9:15PM for dinner. Therefore, Last seatings are 2:40PM for Lunch, and 9:10PM for dinner." That is nice, the math doesn't work out. If your kitchen closes 15 minutes before closing, then your last seating should probably be at least 15 minutes before closing. Closing the seating 5 minutes before closing would not make any sense. Please note that this "kitchen closing" disclaimer does not appear on your website. Some of the best Thai food I ever had. The short ribs with vegetables was incredible, also had the stir fried duck and Pork Prik Pow. To be honest, I came in with higher expectations seeing the number of four stars is restaurant received. Upon arrival, I was impressed by the decoration and aesthetics of this place. Even the menu itself was a piece of art, and I appreciated the variety of items it included. The service was good-in fact most of everything was good, except the food was a bit subpar for me. My beef noodle bowl came out lukewarm and my brother's pineapple shrimp/ chicken claypot dish had no pineapples. We both thought he had ordered the wrong dish---the flavor was also surprisingly mild. Such a cute little hip Thai spot -- it's not your old fashioned Thai spot decked out with one too many decorations and a menu packed with every type of Asian cuisine under the sun (Thai sushi, crab rangoons, pho all on one menu has never been a savory combo). After scouring reviews, we settled on the Pad Thai, Crying Thaiger curry, and steamed dumplings. The pad Thai was ok, but there was something missing in the flavors that I couldn't quite put my finger on. The curry had spice, but the depth of the flavors weren't quite there. The dumplings really were fantastic, but I would have liked a different sauce that wasn't just plain "soy". For three of their signature dishes to be average was a little disappointing. Solid Thai food but nothing to write home about. I had the pad kee mao with chicken. It was flavorful with a decent amount of spiciness. The rest of my party also enjoyed their food. I also had the mango sticky rice and coconut jelly. The mangoes were not sweet (given, mangoes are not currently in season but I would have liked a warning so that I could order something else). The coconut jelly was like eating/drinking a fresh coconut! Although there isn't much jelly but still very refreshing. First off the decor gave off a rustic kitchen vibe. They serve their drinks in mason jars. I ordered the Thai iced tea, just enough sweetness and they don't fill up your entire mason jar with just ice, so extra brownie points. I always try the drunken noodle the first time I eat at a Thai place and this place definitely did not disappoint. They have by far the best drunken noodle I have had in a very long time and not to mention great portion sizes. So good that a week after I went back for a second time. The first time I had with chicken and the second I had with beef. Both times the meat was tender and flavorful. The flavor of the noodles will leave you wanting to finish the dish even when your waist band gets a little too tight. This review is a bit late. We went for dinner on the first day of the full opening menu. I've been driving by it for weeks while renovations were under construction. We don't have a good Thai restaurant in Malden so this was likely going to be the new hot spot - indeed it is! We tried a couple of apps and all were very delish. My favorite was the fried calamari. The portion was small, but the flavor and texture was on point. By far my favorite was the pad Thai which was a wet stir fry with plenty of sauce. Crying Thaiger, still in its soft opening stage, is a new Thai restaurant in Malden specializing in Thai street foods. I don't think you can find any Thai place within a 50 mile radius as robust in flavor as this one. This simple, modern, less than 40 seat establishment tones down on the decor and lets the food speak for itself. Service was spectacular. We had help navigating the menu since drunken noodles weren't spelled out in bold capitalized letters(don't laugh). Each dish was just a warm array of colors, spices, and aroma. The pad kee mao with shrimp was just an explosion of flavor in my mouth. The yellow curry had just the right spice where it wasn't overwhelmingly spicy and not lackluster in flavor as most places. The crying tiger, beef brisket on a sizzling plate, was hands down my favorite. Marinated just right, you get thin slices of fatty brisket that's tender and melts in your mouth. The Thai iced tea we had was just right. Not drowned in sugar like I'm used to and that's perfectly okay with me. Both disappointed me really bad, the crying tiger was pretty dry the meat was black and blue (seared on the outside and raw on the inside if it was intended to be like that there was no discription on the menu) and very very small. This is my all time favorite Thai food place, in-around Boston. Very flavorful food. They have all the Thai favorites really nailed down...my favorite is the Red Curry with Crispy chicken. Special shout out for the crispy chicken: A) unlike most Asian/Thai places, these folks have crispy chicken as a protein option on pretty much everything where you can pick a protein B) the crispy chicken is flavorful and juicy in its own (which is hard to get!). Because they do the basic Thai favs so good, I've only tried those .. but I'm looking forward to trying out all other Thai specials on the menu!! read more

OK, so I have been here three times since I first checked it. The first time that I came here I met a friend and when I first walked in I thought the decor was absolutely adorable. It's a little different style of decoration for a Thai restaurant. I would love to post pictures of it but I'd honestly rather you experience it for yourself I think it's really adorable. They had like Christmas music playing which was nice and this was probably second week of December. I had read in the reviews to try the jasmine tea I think it was so we ordered it and to be honest it wasn't really flavored I didn't really think it was that strong. Afterwords when we were ordering dessert I realize that there were two jasmine tea's and I think that the one everyone was talking about in the reviews was the iced jasmine tea so I'll have to try that soon. I tried the fried rice with vegetables and I asked them to put a little bit of a spicy sauce into it. My friend got a pad Thai. It is a little pricey but you have really large portion so you could definitely share one meal between two people if you're not too hungry or do family-style. I absolutely loved my dish and I devoured all of it it was so flavorful and authentic & my friend loved her Pad thai. We thought we would be exciting and try their specialty desserts that is popular in Thailand which was mangoes with like this rice milk. I personally did not like it at all. The mangoes were not fresh or sweet and I just didn't really like the consistency of the desert. My friend got an iced coffee for dessert, and we asked what was inside and they said there was no syrup or anything but it was extremely sweet my friend liked it I thought it was too sweet. The second time I came here I came in with a friend for dinner and I honestly didn't realize that they didn't serve alcohol so we left. I came back for the third time last night for dinner with two friends. We tried the spring rolls that were very very tasty.I got the same dish and it was just as delicious as the first time. One of my friends got pad Thai and she didn't like it she had chicken on top and the chicken was very dry and crispy beyond an enjoyable crispy. My other friend tried this chicken and noodle dish I honestly forget the name and I didn't take an image, but she loved it and she took some home. It was nice that the server noticed that my friend didn't really eat her meal she didn't want to complain, but the server acknowledged it and they took care of it which was really nice and appreciated. I can tolerate Asian spices pretty well, and the spicy level in this soup was close to my limit without going over it. My sister ordered the pad see ew with chicken (she always orders that dish whenever we eat out for Thai), and she enjoyed the dish. One friend ordered the clay pot of glass noodles and shrimp, and it was delicious but served in a huge bowl that he couldn't finish. Crying Thaiger is not your usual thai takeout place, the owners seemed to have put a lot of effort into decorating this place with retro Thai signages and brightly colored furniture and tableware. This place is really quaint and cute! For two people, we ordered the pineapple clay pot rice and the tamarind duck, and we had some leftover pineapple rice as leftovers! The pineapple clay pot rice had raisins, cashews and pork floss, it was one of the best pineapple rice I've had in the Boston area. It's a little pricy at 14.99 but the portion is generous. The duck was cooked beautifully and the sauce had a strong tamarind flavor. The tartness from the tamarind helped to cut the greasiness from the duck. Both dishes we tried were really good, can't wait to try more when they have their full menu. (They only offered a limited soft opening menu when I visited) The service was a little slow but you could tell that they were trying really hard. There were two servers but they seemed like they were still learning how to operate. So I am sure they will improve. read more

This is probably one of my favorite Thai spots in all of Boston and greater Boston. I would consider myself a Thai connoisseur having had Thai food across the country including LA where there is a hugely populated area with Thai restaurants, all the way to Thailand. Thai restaurants in Boston are no comparison to LA but I would say Crying Thaiger comes closest compared to other surround restaurants. I have never eaten in but have ordered take out/delivery a handful of times. I really haven't had a bad dish there. I usually opt for the pad thai, pad kee mao (drunken noodles), which you can't go wrong.
