When I lived in Parkersburg in the 90's. My mom and I use to go to the crystal cafe. Mom was in her mid seventies, she said her and my grandma use to go there as well. I had to take my hubby. The staff is always great, the food is fresh made and always delicious. There are a lot of regulars that go this quaint,place with delicious food . One of my favorite local diners. The menu is very inexpensive, and the quality of the food is good for the price. Not a fancy place but a very relaxed, small diner/café. I concur with the other reviews here. Nothing special, but for $4.85 breakfast with eggs, bacon, hash browns and cofee you shouldn't expect it. I come in at 7:45 am, and have never seen it busy. Although, I have walked by at 6am and the place was packed to the counter chairs! Easy birds rule this place, I guess.. Service is always prompt and with a smile. I think breakfast is better than lunch. But lunch is a solid option when you've tired of the deli and hotel lunching options nearby. read more

I'm not uptight, so some of these other reviews aren't very helpful. I think many of the other reviewers are expecting a five course meal from a diner. The Crystal Café is not pretending to be something that it's not. It's simply a small local diner offering reasonably priced food. They offer delivery to businesses in downtown Parkersburg, which is nice because not many other restaurants do. The food is actually pretty good. I personally recommend the Club Sandwich on Texas Toast. The staff is very friendly, and they often know their diners by name. They also offer daily specials that many of my coworkers enjoy. read more

The food is good and the price is cheap. It has a regular cafe menu so you will find what you would expect to find. The meatloaf is Not good, but the eggs, burgers, hot dogs, and everything else I have tried there were very good. It was a favorite lunch spot when I worked on that side of town. One time several years back my wifes sandwich had pieces of glass in it. It is the only negative issue I have ever had here. Food is always good. Fresh. Employees polite. Prices are good. I love that there are restaurants downtown, but on my first visit today, i have to say that i am very disappointed. Here's why...I ordered tea with lemon. Very simple thing. They don't have lemons. I get a plastic packet of lemon juice concentrate. Even fast food places have lemons. Second thing. The fish and chips i ordered ( and all the food i observed while i was there, seriously without a down, looked like it was frozen low quality food. The french fries were tasteless and mushy and spongy. It's not hard to make house made fries, especially if they are served with a lot of dishes. Make your own food from scratch!!!!!!!!! That is why you opened a restaurant because you wanted to cook i would hope, not heat up!!! The third thing is the service. We sat at the "bar" and our waitress was very sweet, but i went to order my wish and chips, and as a side...i wanted to sub my cole slaw for a little side salad. I can't eat mayo, and most of their side choices were like potato salad, cole slaw, etc.... who I am guessing is the owner or manager, insisted that i pay an extra $1.55 for my substitute of a tiny iceberg salad with a few slivers of carrot and one sliver of a radish. WHAT?? That's not a way to cater to your customers, especially people with food allergies. I feel that if they would improve on these points, i might go back, but i probably wont for a while : ( read more
