Get the price before you drop off! I made the mistake of not getting the price first for cleaning two dresses, machine washable mind you I just wanted them dry cleaned instead, and it was $115. My fault for not getting a quote up front but man, I felt terrible spending that much on dry cleaning I could have gotten for at least half of that. read more

Beware...Pricing was very high and delivery time was long Clothing was cleaned properly. 2 items regular cleaning 4 items dry cleaned...I was talked into the dry cleaning scenario for items that could have been regularly cleaning. That said had to wait almost six weeks before all items were ready Dry cleaning charge was very high (almost $100 for 4 items). After my protest and that was not given a quote, the price was lowered to $50. Will not use this cleaners in the future. read more

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! This cleaners has been around for decades & they know what they're doing. The staff is extremely polite and knowledgeable, and to me that matters. Those details include asking whether you want your shirt on a hanger or folded flat.It's important if you travel.Some folks use a garment bag, and some folks like to put them in their suitcase.There's a difference. The processing time is relatively the same as most other cleaners that i've been to & the price is reasonable - $5 bucks for a shirt on a hanger. Plus, the do a much better job on collars & spots than others I've used. If you want "Dry Cleaning" with a silk or wool fabric, it's going to cost much more & will take longer, but that's only because they have to send it out, just like most other cleaners. I really wish I'd read some of these reviews more closely because they have some legitimate accuracy that would have been sent to me elsewhere. I will say the owner is was lovely, and I like the old-school and historical element of the location. That said, the six sweaters I brought there over a month ago were quoted initially around $60, which is astronomical by the standards I'm used to (20+ years in Los Angeles; now splitting time between Bay area and there, and I dryclean several times a month). Moreover, my cleaners in LA--and most previous cleaners I use--would take a week for numerous items, AT MOST. Aside from it taking over a month, I am reasonably sure I was doublecharged as my total was $120 and change. Given how long it took, I was in no mood to question or argue--I wanted my clothing back, so I paid and left. I definitely won't be returning here, and would advise others to both scrutinize the reviews and/or consider other places. I get wanting to support local, as that was certainly my intention when I went here, but as others have said, there is something suspect and dishonest going on here. read more

Lynette from Crystal Cleaning was spectacular and absolutely made my wedding day possible by bringing my vision of wearing my mother's 1977 wedding dress. I wanted to restore it to wear on my wedding day but it was in horrible shape. It was badly damaged and discolored due to oxidization. My mother had done nothing to preserve it. I contacted Crystal Cleaning Center on the recommendation of a place called Elegance Preserved in SF. Elegance Preserved in SF could not help me, but they said that Lynette was the person who specialized in vintage who I would want to talk to. I drove down to San Mateo with the very damaged wedding dress and Lynette provided her perspective. It could be restored through the incorporation of new fabrics and then restored. I was shocked that she did not tell me that it was impossible. She gave me a timeline for getting it cleaned, then altered, and then finished with a pressing before the wedding. She also connected me with my seamstress, Kirsten Tucker in SF, who was also masterful. Together, they worked together seamlessly to provide me with the vision that I had of restoring my mother's 1977 wedding dress. I could not have asked for anything more. It was not cheap but it was also worth every single penny. Nothing could have prepared me for how many compliments I would receive on my dress, and to have the story that it was my mother's totally made my wedding day special beyond words. They cleaned and pressed my dress so now my daughter can wear it and will look stunning. I will be taking my dress back to be cleaned and packed away-the new way, so I'll update then. This is a very knowledgeable cleaner. They have been in business for a very long time. I called a number of cleaners and got quite unsatisfactory answers to CAN YOU CLEAN/PRESS MY OLD WEDDING DRESS? - like "we can press it depending on how big it is"??? What!? This cleaner asked if it had oxidized? I didn't know oxidized meant yellowed. I was impressed from the start! I am so happy with my dress and how kind they were. I hired Lynette to press my daughter's very elaborate quinceanera dress. The dress had cascading layers of tulle and lot of detail/sequins. The dress was so big that it did not fit in the largest gown garment bag I could find. I brought the dress to Lynette a week before my daughter's big event. The dress was ready for pick up right on time. When I picked it up, Lynette asked me to inspect the dress to make sure I was happy. I was ... the dress looked so beautiful! Because the dress was so big, Lynette and one of her employees built a garment out of a light, thin material that kept the dress from wrinkling while I transported it. She and her employee helped me carry it to my car and carefully lay it down in my SUV. I am so glad I found Lynette, and I was right to trust her with my daughter's fancy, expensive dress. Lynette is meticulous, careful and it is no wonder she is an institution in the garment care world. The price was right around what I would have expected for such a monster project. If I ever have another fancy gown that I need to get pressed, I will absolutely use Lynette again. She is also a wonderful, pleasant lady. read more

This is the rare cleaner who actually knows about fabrics and garment construction. I made myself a magenta cashmere-wool lined jacket with an unusual pleated back. I wore it with black pants that "crocked"--that is, they contained excess fabric dye that transferred to the inside lower part of the jacket. It looked awful (I threw the pants away) and I was fearful that the staining was permanent. After all, it's fabric dye, not just a food stain. I took my jacket to Crystal Cleaning and found myself talking to the owner. She understood the problem and also understood my fear of over-pressing or otherwise having the jacket damaged by improper handling. She said they do not ship out but do all their cleaning themselves on premises. That is highly unusual! It took a couple of weeks but they managed to get out 90%+ of the black fabric dye and did not overpress or in any way damage my garment. This was better than I expected and I was so relieved. The jacket still looks fresh. I should mention that I patronized this business specifically because some professional dressmakers recommended it to me. It's now my preferred dry cleaner, well worth a trip up from Sunnyvale on a Saturday. read more

Let's start off with saying it took 9 months for my wedding dress to get preserved. My best friend who was also my maid of honor gave me an amazing gift by having it preserved and we never expected it would take so long. My best friend kept having to call them to ask for updates as they were not transparent in the beginning of having minimal staff and what the time frame would be for my wedding dress to be preserved. My bestfriend gave them my contact info so they can update me and they never did. Other places I checked around to see if that was normal, it's not maximum most places is 4 months unless otherwise specified. My dress came out beautiful but the communication is terrible and the way the owner handled it. read more

It has literally been decades since I last used Crystal Cleaning Center. As I've been back to my childhood home, I have been reacquainting myself with all the new local businesses . . . and some old familiar ones. I was pleasantly surprised to meet the daughter of the original owners of Crystal Cleaning Center, Lynnette Watterson, operating this wonderful dry cleaning and laundry company. It is located in Crystal Springs Village, previously named Crystal Springs Shopping Center, in the Highlands-Baywood Park area of San Mateo. In 1971, this area was practically "the country." There was a Safeway, a few open-air shops, a Sprouse-Reitz five-and-dime variety store, and Crystal Cleaning Center. Guess what? The Safeway is still here (nicely upgraded), a dozen or more new stores, restaurants, and whole office buildings have been added (long ago) . . . and Crystal Cleaning Center still going strong! I brought my Ermenegildo Zegna shirt to be dry cleaned and Lynnette took one look and explained, "all these mother-of-pearl buttons need to be protected, 50 cents per button." First of all, I didn't even know my buttons were real mother-of-pearl. I like being educated by a professional. Lynnette then patiently showed me the velcro button protectors they use and demonstrated them. There was a difficult red wine stain on my sleeve they removed, and at my request, completed the dry cleaning in one day. My Zegna shirt looked brand new! As I looked around and noticed the company in operation, the quality of clothing they cleaned there, and listened to Lynnette proudly share the history and art of their dry cleaning, I realized . . . Crystal Cleaning Center is like an auto body shop for Ferraris, but for designer clothing instead. Crystal Cleaning Center is expensive, they always have been. Yet, I like my special clothing treated like a Ferrari, it makes me feel good. For that feeling and the results, I think it's worth a few extra dollars. I only paid $100 for it and wore it for less than 2 hours. It wasn't stained or terribly wrinkled. I just didn't feel like ironing it. It is machine washable. When I questioned them, the response was..."oh was this your first time here?" Because what, your cleaning chemicals are made from unicorn dust? This is the most ripped off I have ever been. For one pair of slacks, three blouses (one of which was a tank top) and two dresses (basic, nothing fancy), it was $120. Completely ridiculous. This would have cost me $50 or less at any of the other cleaners I have used. Plus, their turnaround time is over a week, which is way too long. This is the only shop I have ever left and cried all the way home. $30 to clean a black sleeveless cotton dress and I can't believe I paid the ransom AND this was 10 years ago and the only good part is that I get to write the review to warn people. Let me be clear, I wasn't crying so much over being gouged, but by the way I was treated by Lynette, she just couldn't have been more rude. She actually said they could charge whatever they wanted because they have so many wealthy customers, if I left someone else would come. When I checked to see if they had any other negative reviews... wow, they sure do. A warning to the wedding dress customers... they cleaned and preserved my dress 30 years ago and all the lace near the tissue yellowed so you might check your dress. There is a great saying; You may forget what people say and do, but you never forget how they make you feel. Sometimes I see Lynette around Burlingame and I feel kind of ill. I took my wedding gown here. Yes the price is outrageous (approx. $400) but the owner does know how to do a good job. The deadline was met and everything went smoothly. She showed me around her store as well and I saw a lifetime's worth of wedding dresses and couture gowns... first time I saw an actual Marchesa, which was nice. My gown came back impeccably clean. All the stains from all that wine and dancing were gone. Truly impressive. I'm thinking of bringing some of my other precious items here, like my winter coats. read more

Based on some recent outstanding work that they've done, I felt the need to continue to show my favorite dry cleaners some love. I can say with absolute confidence that there's no place in the Bay Area that will take better care of your clothes than Crystal Cleaning Center. Exhibit A: - One of my new favorite fashion acquisitions, a lovely chiffon Catherine Malandrino dress, unfortunately lost a few of the petals as part of the detail along the hemline during the cleaning process. (They were sewn on pretty loosely to begin with and have fallen off while I've been wearing the dress, so not surprising that a few fell off while it was being cleaned.) However, the team immediately noticed when the missing petals came loose, gathered them up and reattached them to the hemline to make sure they stay put! Exhibit B: - Unbeknownst to me, the hem of one of my favorite silk blouses was loose, so the team kept it longer to replace the hem. Lynette, the owner, made a special trip to the fabric store to ensure that she could match the thread to the fabric since she didn't have anything close enough in her shop. It's this type of "above and beyond" service that keeps me coming back, not to mention the fact that everyone there knows me by name and is so friendly when I come in. They even remember to ask about my sometime ill-behaved cat and dog, which have been the source of several other jobs that I've brought in! read more

5 million stars for Lynnette and Crystal Cleaning Center. Lynnette owns and runs the shop her mother started in 1963. They specialize in wedding gowns and high-end dry cleaning. As someone else said, the Four Seaons/Ritz Carlton of dry cleaning. My fiance and I were scheduled to get married at the end of May. And just 3 months out we decided to reschedule til next June due to the economy. Well, my dress had been ordered and it just arrived. Not knowing what to do with it for the next 15 months I called Lynette. She did a pre-heirloom job on the dress and packed it into the biggest box with tissue, fabric, etc. She did a great job. When it's time to alter my dress and have it pressed I will be back to Lynnette. Then when it is time to clean it and get it ready to go to England (for our second wedding) I will be back to Lynnette. When it's time to heirloom it for my daughter, I will be back to Lynnette. All of these stops will probably add up to the price of the gown itself, but it is nice to see someone who cares about it almost as much as I do and treats it with such respect. So ladies, bring your wedding gowns to Crystal Cleaning. Which I seriously doubt. There's a reason why they have SO many wedding dresses to clean, why people will take their linens and such... This is a wonderful, high quality dry cleaner! Lynette and her team are truly experts at what they do and are a pleasure to do business with. I used Lynette for getting m wedding dress and my husband's tux pressed before our wedding. We live on the east coast and got married in California near family. Having traveled with our wedding attire, it was in need of pressing after hauling it on the cross country flight. They helped us arrange everything around our schedule and it was quick turnaround with just 3 days before the wedding. After the wedding, I used Lynette for cleaning my veil which was my something borrowed and of course my wedding dress. The dress had been through a lot after dancing, playing bocce ball and countless wedding guests stepping on the train but Lynette's team worked their magic!! It looks amazing and she even puts a special touch on her product by incorporating our wedding invitation on the box for the dress. I brought my sample sale wedding dress to Lynette after having a different dry cleaners try to clean it twice and it was still dirty. The lace dress was very dirty on the train and a little on the side. Not only did they get all the dirt out, the entire dress looked brighter. I was so so relieved when I picked it up and saw they got it clean! Lynnette and her team at Crystal Cleaning Center are miracle workers in my opinion. In June of 2008, I called Lynnette in a panic. My mother had taken my Amy Kuschel wedding dress to a cleaners in Michigan after our Bay Area wedding. (Granted--a bad decision on my part to entrust my dress to a dry cleaner in Michigan) The dress needed to be cleaned so I could wear it again at a reception my parents were hosting for friends and family who couldn't come to California. When my mom picked up my dress from the Michigan cleaner, it was a complete disaster. The ruching on the bodice and pleats across the top had been pressed out. A beautiful fan on the back had been pressed flat. We sent the dress to Lynnette and she took on this monumental challenge. I brought her pictures of what the dress looked like before the Mishap in Michigan. When I got the dress back from Crystal Cleaning Center in time for a July reception, I was truly amazed at how Lynnette and her team returned my wedding dress to its original condition and style. I never could have imagined that my dress could look so beautiful again. Lynnette was so wonderful to work with through this ordeal. She was so kind when I was near tears at the first sight of my ruined dress. I felt like repairing my dress was a top priority for her. It is rare to find such high-quality service nowadays. Do not make the same mistake I did of getting your wedding dress cleaned here. Worst experience with a dry cleaner ever, and I'm including a dry cleaner I used who stole my clothes. I came here on the rec of my wedding planner, and I should've asked about the price before I did. The owner was really nice and friendly, and we chatted for almost an hour about various topics, like my wedding, her wedding, wedding dresses, her other clients, etc., before I finally asked how much it would cost -- $600. My jaw may have dropped, but at that point, I would've felt rude walking out, so I paid 50% of the cost upfront (just thinking about this now 2 years later makes me cringe). The owner said that there was a lot of dresses ahead of mine, and one guy who was "amazing" doing all the dresses, so it would take about a year. Again, I was not happy about this, but I guess my bad for not asking about the price and time it'd take to complete the job upfront. This was in September 2015. Fast forward to March 2017, yes over 1.5 years later, I haven't heard ANYTHING from the dry cleaner, so I call them to inquire. The owner picks up and assures me that it'll just be another month, and they'll call back when it's ready. Fast forward to May 2017, haven't heard back despite the owner's reassurance, and at this point, I basically want my money back. I called to ask for my money back, but the owner refused, and just continued to offer me platitudes and explanations around how it takes a long time to clean the dress and there's one guy doing all these dresses, and the promised that it'd be ready around Memorial Day weekend. I basically went off on her about how it was deceptive advertising, and how it's ridiculous that I was paying all this money and then not hear from them for over 1.5 years. Fast forward another week, and I get a call from the owner saying that my dress is ready for pickup. I go in, get it, she tries to upsell me on the heirloom box (for another $50), which I refused. I paid off the rest of the balance (she charged me $350, which means maybe the price of the service went up in the 1.5 years since I'd been there, but I'd lost my original receipt at that point, and just wanted to take my dress and get out of there). Basically, I'm convinced that if I hadn't called them repeatedly and gotten upset/ demanded my money back, I still wouldn't have my wedding dress back, and this business would have just pocketed my initial $300 payment. OMG!!! This place is ridiculously overpriced!! $90 for 4 light items. These would have been less than half the price at any other dry cleaners in the area. She said "you should've asked for a quote". I will never come back to this place. read more
