One side of my garage door came off the track and one of the cables came loose on a zero degree, very cold day. I remembered using Crystal Overhead Doors once back in July of 2011. I needed a new spring and a guy named Eric came out and not only replaced the spring but tuned up door so it would open fully and close tighter against the weatherstripping. Eric was really nice and the price was reasonable. I looked them up and called them and Eric, who had come out years ago answered the phone. I found out later that he is actually the owner and will sometimes go out on calls himself. He was as pleasant and helpful as he was back then and asked if I could wait until tomorrow because his crews were out and booked for the day. I asked if there was a way that I could close the door myself because I was worried about the house not being secure and the weather. He asked where I lived and then said that one of his crews was doing an install nearby and could probably stop by and at least secure the door closed. They did arrive shortly after and asked if I really only wanted to secure the door or if they wanted me to fix it. I was surprised that it could be fixed because it looked bad all buckled with a cable hanging and roller pins twisted and almost falling out. They said it wouldn't take long and that they could fix it. They said that they would have to charge me service fee which was fair and proceeded to fix the door in the freezing cold in record time. It opened and closed like new. Being an Architect, I have worked with hundreds of subcontractors in my life and Crystal Overhead Doors are one of the best. Their company is very professional and Eric the owner and his technicians are excellent. Eric is always courteous and takes the time to listen to what your issues are and goes the extra mile to help you. Service calls, especially emergency ones can be pricey, but Crystal is reasonable and didn't charge me extra for the short notice service call. Great company. Knowing my garage door opener was really seeing it's last days, I knew my time of pampering the "bouncing" garage door was over. I started looking for a new opener, but it was equally about who could I trust? I called around for prices, and Crystal Door wound up giving me the best quote of all. I selected them because of the good quote, and I saw them on Angie's List, and realized they must have been scrutinized to be there, and that was very important to me. They were very precise about everything, and explained all aspects of the installation. I really didn't know anything about maintainance or upkeep, and I realized how very helpful they were. Months later, I had some problems with the system being too precise, and found myself fighting with my door. I started to feel like I worked for the door. I called the owner, Eric, who handled my barrage of curse words rather well, (I explained, I was the daughter of a longshorewoman), and "I wanted him to rip out the new system". He said he'd come out and look at it. With Eric's calming effect, and a few adjustments, the door didn't show any of the problems I experienced. He was kind enough to stick around until the sunlight would pass half over the garage entrance threshold, to see if the problem still persisted. He had me open and close the door, and the adjustments he made, worked. He asked why I hadn't called sooner. I truly don't know why I waited so long. I opened my door on a saturday morning to wash the van and bang!!!!,,,,the door gets all the way up and fell flat down!! The mount fell from the roof rafter and I thought the entire garage was coming down. The door was on top of my van. Well,,... time to google garage doors! I found Crystal door. I got a free estimate 1 hour later and the service guy took the door off my van right away so I wasnt stuck in my garage. I agreed to what I believe was a very fair price for a complete new door. the door was very old, heavy and one piece cracked. We re-used the motor because I just had that replaced about 2 years ago. He told me he would call in the measurements and have a new door for me on the following business day which was monday. Here is my problem! the garage is full of tools and I have to secure them. He rigged the old door up to secure the garage for the rest of the weekend and had my new door up by 11am Monday morning. He also for a small charge replaced the broken rafter that the door hung from in the middle of the garage. THE SERVICE WAS FIRST CLASS!!! I put his company sticker on my opener and asked him for 10 more. I've since put his company sticker on my mom's door, uncles, sister's, neighbor on both sides and told all my friends about him. I have been using the guys at Crystal for many years. My door is a dinosaur, a big hulking beast of an industrial door. About twice a year my door goes dead due to age, weather, or something I did or didn't do. The door and mechanics are completely outdated and the guys always tell me to replace it. Last week my door went out once again. The temperature was around 5 degrees and I was not happy. I called Rick at Crystal Door headquarters and explained the situation. Of course it was getting dark in about 2 hours and the door mechanics are in an unlit area about 18' in the air. Rick knew all of this and after a few phone calls he had engineer Joel at my door within 50 minutes. Rick and Joel knew that my garage door leads directly into my building. Did I mention that the door was stuck open and not closed? Anyway, Joel came by with a scissor lift and tools and fixed the problem. I was so happy and Joel was quickly on to his next emergency call. This is not the first time Crystal Overhead Door has come to my rescue. Maybe soon I will get a new door and mechanicals (which I will have Crystal do) but in the meantime I will rely on their great service, ability and attitude to get me by. Great Service All Around! Our condo's garage door broke on a Saturday night. I called Crystal Door Sunday morning, not expecting a call back until Monday but received a call back the very same day. Eric scheduled me for first thing Monday morning which was great news as we didnt want our garage door to remain open in the middle of the city with our bikes, lawn equipment etc in plain view. Our technician, Tom, arrived on time Monday morning and diagnosed the problem right away. He gave me a few different options for fixing the door and never tried to upsell you to the most expensive one. He suggested what needed to be done that day and then told me what could be done as preventitive maintenace and let me decide how to proceed. He also gave me tips on how to maintain the door ourselves to keep it in good shape further preventing future problems. Tom repaired the door fast, had all the materials on hand and was a complete professional. I also received a nice follow up call two days later to make sure the door was working properly and we were happy with the service. Plus the pricing was great- we were pleasantly surprised. I love great customer service because it is very rare that you find it now-a-days. I certainly didn't think I was going to get it at 12:30 am when I called for emergency garage door repair service. After making 15 different phone calls to so-called 24 hrs garage door repair companies I finally found Crystal Overhead Door Inc. and left a page. Eric called back and said that he could be over in an hour to fix the problem. Sure enough....it was exactly one hour later (1:30 am) when he showed up. He quickly fixed the problem with the door in about 10 minutes or less. But here is what I really appreciated. He didn't just fix the problem. He also went above and beyond by tightening the chain, oiling the wheels and rails, changed the light bulb, fixed the tension so that if something was caught in the door it would reverse the door. By the time he finished the door moved a lot smoother and didn't make a sound going up and down. I was impressed. What stood out to me was that he wasn't concerned about rushing to get back in the bed but more interested in doing a great job and pleasing a customer. Late on a bitter cold Chicago evening, we couldn't get our electric garage door to close all the way. Early the next morning, before we could even contact a service, Eric from Crystal Overhead Door knocked on our front door and introduced himself. He said he was just on his way to work and saw that our door had come off its tracks. Instead of calling in for a tech or just handing us a card and telling us to call for an appointment, he actually took the time to fix it right then. He even asked for some WD40 (he wasn't in his work truck yet) so he could grease the tracks! I asked if the door was of a lower quality, because it always sounded horrible whenever it was going up and down. He easily could have taken that opportunity to try to sell me some new, pricey door system. But he said that it actually isn't bad and proceeded to explain how and when to grease the tracks to keep it working well. It now glides and sounds better than it has since we moved in more than two years ago. When I asked how much I owed him, he said not to worry about it. What wonderful customer service I experience this morning. My garage door opener failed to close last night, and I had to complete the process manually. I was fully prepared for the event of full replacement. In seeking a reputable installer in Chicago for my Liftmaster, I located Crystal Overhead Door in my online search. I called them this morning to determine when a technician could be available. Joel answered the phone and we discussed the issue I was having. He kindly walked me through the steps to adjust my sensors, and he told me to call him again when I went into the garage. He patiently worked with me as I followed all the steps and was willing to hold back one of his guys until I knew whether or not I still needed a site visit. After making several adjustments to align the sensors and testing the door several times, I was able to "fix" the issue with my garage door opener. Excellent service and great price. One of the springs broke on our garage door. We collected quotes from at least two other companies and chose Crystal. Our tech was Luis, and he was able to replace the springs right away. He also tightened up some things and made sure the garage door was back in working order before he finished. I appreciate that he didn't push upgrades on us - we have an older spring/door model - and he recognized by looking around the tools and woodworking supplies in our garage that we are "handy" and able to do some other minor tune-ups on our own. He gave advice for those, too! The only thing that was unexpected was that the tech only comes out IF they are able to call and confirm you are home near the beginning of the appointment window. If you don't answer the phone - which I didn't the first day we had it set bc it was a unknown number - then they don't come. I had a problem with a garage door that wouldn't close and actually came down at an angle. The door had been installed within the last five months and I was disappointed that I was already having problems with it. Since it was 7:00 PM on a cold January evening and there were many valuable things in the garage that could be easily stolen I called the Crystal Door emergency number and left a message asking that someone come out ASAP. Much to my surprise I got a return call within 15 minutes and 20 minutes later a very competent man (Dave?) showed up. He seemed puzzled as to why the door would have come off the track but managed to fix it within 5 minutes. I asked how much I owed him and he said "Nothing." When I called the company that last fixed our 1993 garage door I was told that they had moved and Crystal Overhead Door had taken their phone number. After reading all the positive reviews about them I decided to take the chance and scheduled a service call for a garage door that wouldn't open. Eric showed up on time and fixed the door within 30 minutes (he originally said it would take 15 but due to some crazy wiring inside the case it took him a little longer). He was knowledgeable, friendly and quick, and the cost was less than I was expecting, including the $80 service call fee. He also adjusted the sensors and fixed the opener on the wall and didn't charge extra for it. I contacted Crystal door to fix my garage door. I have a very large three car door, that borders on commercial and was worried I wouldn't be able to get it fixed, (at least not affordably). After speaking with Ann, she assured me that repairing my door would not be a problem. I scheduled an appointment, and was thrilled when Joel showed up 5 minutes prior. Joel took a quick look at the door and explained what the problem was. He told me how much the repair would be and got to work. Within 30 minutes my behemoth of a garage door was working again. Joel even, took the time to explain the importance of lubricating my springs and other moving parts, to avoid problems in the future. Like several other posters, I came to Yelp in search of a garage door repair outfit when a broken torsion spring held our cars hostage last week. Called before they opened (I'm an early riser) and received a call back by 7:30 AM. Friendly, courteous and professional phone demeanor and they were able to fit me in that day. The tech called en route to give me an arrival time (which he met) and was also friendly, polite, and a fast worker. In less than an hour he changed out the springs and had the door humming like never before. The final price was the same as the estimate. These guys were great! We recently had a baby boy and his room is directly above our garage so we needed the quietest door opener made. I called another company who came out and said there really wasn't anything unit quieter than what we had since it was a belt driven opener. Then I called Crystal and they sent out their technician and he recommended a Marantec. He also said I could go to their office and hear it along side other models, which i did, and this made the decision a breeze! The day of the install they were on time and did a tremendous job. Our Lift-Master garage door opener failed last week as the shaft broke on the gear & sprocket assembly. As repeat customers, Eric, the owner of Crystal Overhead, said he could have someone out later that day, as the service technician, Dave, would be in our area. Not only was Dave professional & adept at assessing the problem, he was honest & saved us (the customer), money! Who does that now a days? The classic, a broken garage door spring at the Friday evening start of a three day holiday weekend. Through the recommendation of a neighbor who had been pleased with the work they did, I luckily connected with Crystal Overhead Door and 2 hours later had a better than new garage door. Faced with the prospect of 4 days of a locked car, I think the price was fair for the service performed. The contractor, Eric, even went the extra distance and backed up when he discovered the spring he was replacing was undersized and did not balance the door properly.
