Our building has a shared 3 car garage with a commercial door - it is not easy to find a place that will service it. We had an emergency as one of the springs broke and the door would not open, preventing us from getting in or our. The previous owners used one of the bigger garage door companies in the city, which shall remain unnamed. I reached out and they wanted $75 for an estimate. I politely declined and reached out via Yelp for several quotes. Crystal Overhead door responded promptly as it was an emergency and sent someone over. They took a look, gave me a price that was reasonable, went and got the springs and fixed the door all in under about 5 hours. The techs were knowledgeable and friendly and they appreciated the urgency of the job in the middle of winter. They will no doubt be our service provider for any future issues. read more

Yep, Crystal Overhead Door is actually as good as it gets in a service provider. I called them on a Thursday at 4:00 pm when my 22-year-old garage door would only open 2 feet off the ground and they repaired it the next day at 10:45 am. The woman who answered the phone was polite and helpful. The technician Carlos Nava was courteous, his assessment was thorough and he gave me 3 options of the work he could do (within minutes even sent me an email with the options written out) and explained the options. After our discussion, Carlos completed the work and left the garage in perfect order. My 20-year-old daughter who let Carlos in (I was at work) told me to make sure to give him a positive review because she felt he was highly professional and very nice. read more

The garage door at my parent's place was slowly crumbling since there was a crack that kept widening over time, to a point where it would not go up anymore without assistance. A neighbor suggested this company since they had previously done a good job. First person came to give a quote, suggested to replace the entire door instead of one piece, since the cost of one piece was 1/2 of the entire door, and also indicated the garage door opener was still in good shape. The installer, another person, came by a few days later to install the doors. Afterwards, there was a repetitive "ka-ka-ka" sound whenever the door would go up. The installer indicated it was due to the old garage door opener and offered to fix it for $600 more. Luckily, my parent refused and notified me about the situation. I found another installer that came and found that the opener gear was broken due to the first installer tightening the chain too tight, and changed it for only $200. I called this company and complained about their installer's unwillingness to fix the problem he caused, and instead of finding the root cause of the issue, decided to upsell to gain more profit. This is a caution for those who have seniors at the residence, because it appears the installer was trying to take advantage of them due to their lack of knowledge. The doors appear to be in good shape only after the second installer had properly fixed and adjusted them. However, I would NOT recommend Crystal Overhead Door again. In fact, they should REFUND the extra $200 my parent had to spend to fix the problem they caused. read more

My car was in the garage fully loaded for an upcoming flea market when a spring on the door broke. This was from an overhead door installation that was more than 30 years ago. I could not lift the door manually and so I called Crystal Overhead Doors as I had had a prior excellent experience with the company. Very Thankful I found Crystal. This week I was trying to get my garage door opener to work properly as when I pressed the button it didn't work consistently as well as I needed a new controller as I purchased a new car. I called Crystal and Eric (i think that was his name) helped me understand on the phone the potential issues and said to stop by and he would show me how we could fix my remote control. So in the store he took my device and opened it up and fixed the "loose" setting it was in as well as with my new purchased remote control showed me how to program my new device (he made it super easy). Additionally, I had been wanting a outdoor keypad and thought it was going to be a big production but he showed me a wireless version that I could install in about 5 minutes and easily program. So I purchased both the wireless keypad and additional remote and that is what I paid for...he didn't charge me anything for fixing my other remote when he could of easily sold me another remote as I would of never had a clue how to fix it. I chose this place based on the great reviews, but these guys are a scam. I'll save you the details, but it has been one thing after the other. Each time they come out, there's another $200 bill to keep my garage door working. Yesterday was the fourth time in two years; the guy tried to sell me a whole new system for $380 (my system is only two years old), and when I declined, he essentially threatened me and told me that something would go wrong where I would need his help. Then he wouldn't give my remote back and told me I needed to give him $40 for a new one. I had to pretend to buy the new system to get my remote; as soon as he left I called to cancel. Scary. So, beware. They are very nice on the phone, but they are a money pit. I'd take all of those reviews with a big grain of salt. read more

My new-to-me but really old-as-hell house has an equally vintage garage and last Sunday when my husband opened it for the first time to retrieve his manly behemoth grill and then close the garage door, the whole bottom feel off. Much like wet cardboard. So, new garage door leapt to the top of the to-do list. I consulted Yelp and called the top three listed. One of the numbers was for a now defunct business which was owned by a friend of Eric's, the owner of Crystal Overhead Door. Crystal had taken over the number, which is how I ended up talking with Eric. Anyway, since they're right in my area, Eric was actually over at my place giving me a quote in about an hour after I called. My husband went out to get the quote and was very impressed by what a nice guy Eric is. He gave us the quote and let us know he'd match his competitors on equal products. The next three bids all came in slightly lower, but two got disqualified for various reasons. For example, one guy didn't take off his shades when he talked to my husband, which apparently gets you voted off the island. I'd called all the companies after my husband got the quotes to get make and model numbers, cycle ratings, R-values for the doors, etc. Just trying to get an apples-to-apples. Surprisingly, they were all quoting the same manufacturer's door, same models. Variances among companies were related chiefly to warranties and other smaller issues. So it was between the highest bid and the lowest bid. We told Eric what his competition was offering, he kept his word about matching the offer, and now we have a swell garage door with infrared sensors so it doesn't squash our kid on accident. The installer, Gerardo, was professional and nice and even swept the garage after he was done to ensure no sharp bits were left behind. Garage door to new garage door took a week, but that's only because one of the places I was getting a quote from couldn't get me a quote for three days (should have written them off right there). Eric could have probably had the door up the next day. He was always prompt, polite and very generous with his time and information. You won't find better. read more

Within 12 hours we had a response from Crystal and was able to set up an appointment date and time that worked for us. (during our first attempt at getting a new garage door opener, it took 1 month to schedule a date). We bought our own garage door opener and had Mike from Crystal Overhead Door install it on September 23, a week after first contacting them. Had an issue with our garage door where our spring snapped due to the cold and had our cars stuck in the garage during the recent cold wave. Called, left a message and they responded promptly as well as fit us into their schedule that day even though they were obviously slammed with others like us having issues with their garage doors due to the cold. They came out when they said they would and we're very good about calling ahead and providing an ETA, fixed the door quickly - apparently an easy fix since we already had another working spring that they could connect to and for the garage door opened in minutes. Didn't even charge us. Crystal Overhead doors was "assigned" to us by our home warranty company....our garage door refused to open late yesterday night, and we filed our claim about 10 pm. David showed up at 9:30 this morning, and immediately determined that one of our springs had snapped. He fixed the issue in about 20 minutes (after recommending that BOTH springs be replaced now to save us money in the long term with another call.....so nice!) and told me that since the actual spring issue was not covered under our warranty, we could cancel the service call and save the cost of our warranty deductible, also really nice! David was friendly, thorough, and efficient, and gave us lots of advice on keeping our door working well and cost-effective options for replacing/upgrading our garage system in the future. So this past Saturday, after just 3 days of home-ownership, my new garage stopped working. Panicked, and pissed off, I call Crystal Overhead (suggested by my Home Warranty company who told me a broken spring wasn't covered). Eric, the owner, called me back within 10 minutes of leaving the emergency page. Eric came right over, leaving a family function to fix my garage door. He quickly diagnosed it wasn't a broken spring, as I had feared,, and instead that it was a drum that got out of whack. Not content with merely fixing the problem, he wanted to diagnose what caused it. He quickly figured out that what had happened was that the door which is entrance to the garage from the backyard had probably swung to far open, thus blocking the garage doors descent. That combined with the fact that the setting for the motor was set such that the door was banging down to hard, caused the problem. After that he talked me through preventative maintenance, explained why I might be having some leakage issues at the base of the garage walls, and was basically full of VERY useful information He seemed like a great guy, who really cares about his customers and wants to do the job right the first time! If you live in the north/northwest side or the northwest/northern collar communities, if you have ANY garage door needs--repair, installation, you name it--Crystal Overhead Door should be your first and only call!! read more

I was in a Bad position as my door started down and abruptly stopped,, there was no lights and nothing was blocking the sensors. I had no choice but to disconnect the unit and manually drop the door. On the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, my husband had parked his car in the garage and when he hit the button to close the garage, we heard a loud boom and apparently the door went completely off the track lowering half of the door on a complete angle.
