Crystal overhead garage door was the third business we called to fix an overhead garage door that wouldn't go down evenly, made an incredible amount of noise, and often times wouldn't go all the way down until after several attempts. The first company never showed. The second company came at the very end of the appointment window, looked at it, and said "sorry, there's nothing that can be done". I was expecting a second opinion that said basically "So sad, too bad" but instead Tony came out and said "this is an easy fix". He worked his magic by adjusting a few wires and using about a can of spray to grease up all the moving parts. The results were incredible! He also let me know how we can maintain the garage door in the future so that this doesn't happen again. Tony was scheduled to arrive between 9 AM and 11 AM. At 8:10 AM he called me to say he would be there in an hour, he arrived at 8:50 and was gone by 9:03 AM. read more

The repair technician showed up within the promised window and since he was able to fix the problem in less than 5 minutes with a turn of the screwdriver, there was no charge. He talked about other "lift options" that would prevent some of the cold weather problems we were having (without a heavy sell) and was very honest that they could certainly do it anytime or we could wait until the current system failed... but there was no immediate need to do it. Needed same day service for a broken door (lock was inadvertently engaged on the door, then opened, which snapped a cable, etc.). After searching online for Garage Door Repair, I called Sears Repair at 7am. They said they would call by 8am. I'm still waiting for that call... instead, I went to the next search result, which was Yelp. Saw Crystal's ratings, and gave them a call. First off, they answered the phone! A real, live person! They took my info, and said they could have somebody out that day, by 2pm. Sure enough at 1:55pm, Tom arrived (after a call five minutes out letting me know they were on their way). He was very knowledgeable, courteous, thorough and fast. He had my door fixed, lubricated and tightened in 45 minutes, while taking the time to explain to me what had happened, and what to look out for. Would totally recommend this company. I contacted Crystal nearly 2 weeks ago for a quote for a new residential overhead door. The tech came out the same day and gave me a rough quote for $1350.00 for a mid level door. He wasn't sure about a couple of the parts or available colors so he told me that he or someone else would contact me no later than the following evening. I never heard back from them. Called to inquire why my garage door isn't closing properly, and after describing my problem, I was quoted for what it would cost to replace the whole system. What a scam! What kind of honest business would diagnose the problem without even inspecting it to see what's causing the problem??? I would never call this business again, just not trustworthy. By the way, I called another garage door repair company and they successfully diagnosed the problem, by making a service call. It is an electrical issue - there is a loose electrical wire (bx) dangling over the door. We had them come out and replace a garage door that was damaged. They fixed it enough to use, but we had to wait on a replacement door. Not a big issue, but it too a few weeks for a standard 2 car garage. Since they installed it we have had it come off the tracks twice in two months. They have come out an repaired it, but blamed it on us and said that it will never happen again. It just happened again tonight. I am furious. I will call them back to repair it, but I would never do business with them again. They have done an overall poor job. Look elsewhere for a garage door. read more

I called Crystal Overhead Door this morning (around 8:00AM) and spoke with a very friendly gentleman who told me he'd put me on the list and see if he could get someone out to me today. He didn't make any promises, but said technicians are often in my area and they'd do their best to get out to me. I received a call around 12:00PM that someone was on their way and they'd be there by 12:15PM. By 12:45PM the problem was fixed. The technician was very friendly, professional, and fixed what turned out to be multiple issues. The service call was $80.00. When I booked the appointment, I wasn't aware of the Yelp deal and really could've used that $25.00 savings, but I didn't see it until I just jumped on here to write my review. Oh well. Now I know. If you can manage the problem on your own and book an appointment 24 hours in advance, take advantage of the Yelp deal and save $25.00! Thanks Crystal Overhead Door! Another artic day in Chicago - hinge (and the door face) on the garage door popped. I called Crystal Overhead Door (COD) and arranged to have someone come out following morning. Tech was on time and did outstanding job. the door needed to be replaced which would take couple days to get in stock - tech did temporary patch (at no charge), presented options for the new door (on the Ipad), I selected the option desired, he ordered the door and scheduled the install (all while onsite). It was a miserably cold day but that didn't slow him down a bit. Explained the problem and my options very clearly. I called them and Dave came out on time as promised. I had a 30 year old Geanie (sp?) opener and the door would not close anymore. It would only advance about 2 feet down and then stop. Dave tried a few things and then looked at the unit and he saw that a circuit board had a few parts that were fried. So he called in to get a price quote on the board and they told him $120. The service call is $80 and he said it would take an hour to install (minimum charge) so the whole job would run $240. I aked at that point what it would cost to install a whole new unit and he siad total price for the unit and including installation would be $380. Seeing that the unit sells for about $200 at Home Depot or Lowes, I thought this was fair. After all it would take be 4 hours or more of my time if I did this myself. Dave came back the next day, on time again, and got it installed in less than 2 hours. A brand new Liftmaster. I like this one better as it has a lock to optionally lock out the remotes from working the unit. Dave showed me how to use it properly before he left. My only minor complaint was that whoever called me back from Cyrstal when I had first called them up did not mention the $80 service call part or their hourly rates. Maybe he forgot but it would have been nice to know in advance what to expect. But checking around, the prices are in the norm for this type of work. I would use them again. read more

After getting an estimate for the replacing of our gate motor from another company totaling about $800, including safety sensors, I called Crystal and was immediately told the issue could lie elsewhere, that the sensors were really overkill and that it should cost us much less to fix our problem. They sent someone else out a couple days later and sure enough the original estimate was incorrect and Crystal's was spot on. They replaced the capacitor of our gate motor, instead of the whole motor, and didn't push the safety sensors on us and we saved $660 over the original estimate. Thank you Crystal! read more

My garage door broke in the am and wouldn't open trapping my car in. I had a full day of appointments that went down the drain. Anyhow, I called a few places to come by and they were able to get here first. Tom the technician was very knowledgeable, he was doing the work on auto pilot, I even jokingly said he could do it in his sleep. Overall I'm happy I called them. Had an issue with the garage door tonight and called Crystal Overhead. Eric stopped by (15 minutes earlier than expected) and quickly pinpointed all of the issues that were going on with the garage including a split wood frame.
