This place is roughhhhh. I literally grew up going to this grocery store even before it turned into a cub... Honestly shopping here early early morning is pretty chill but coming here at night is like going through war. No baskets because I guess everyone jacked them, the carts are tough and loud as hell like even Walmart carts aren't that bad... Any essentials are locked so good luck if you need anything but groceries. I literally had the cashier drop some of my groceries, forget to scan some of my items at the end of the belt and then they threw them across the belt with my two receipts because they had to make two transactions for rest of the groceries... I know retail can be hard and we all have bad days but I didn't do anything but say hello... The only positive I can give is that the store is well stocked and it's great to have a grocery store in such a high populated area but I think this place needs a remodel and different management. Honestly just go to the Aldi on Lyndale because at least the staff is nice. read more

Cub Foods Uptown has just re-opened and with a refreshed look! The Uptown store had been closed since mid-June for two months and it has now reopened with new products, and a refreshed layout! The shelving is more streamlined and modern with improved visibility of the goods. The entrance is more spacious and there is now an expanded floral department. There was worry that the store was going to close for good as there have been a few Cub Foods closures as of late...but we're relieved that you're back and back in full force! Welcome back! If I could give a "zero" star to this plac I would. I went to this "establishment" on Sep. 29, 2025 at 3:00 pm to pick up some goods. I saw a lane # light turn on as I was waiting in another line and so I asked the "cashier" at the newly lit line if she was open. She paused, gave me a look as if , "how dare I ask that question", then without saying a word pointed to the lit number as if to signal "of course I'm open!!!!" Now maybe I'm old fashioned but a simple reply in the form of "yes I'm open!" Would have been welcomed. Not a smirk, glare and a pointing wordless gesture. I brought this up to the manager's attention but based on that interaction I felt it warranted voicing my experience on this platform. Everything is locked up and takes staff 15+ minutes to come unlock anything. Save your time and go literally anywhere else. They also have an issue getting expired food off the shelf so check EVERYTHING before paying. Self checkouts are permanently closed. Which is fine cus everyone would just steal otherwise but they then only have 1 or 2 people checking out. The store is gross and not cleaned. Great location, should he upscale like the one in St. Louis Pk and elsewhere, but nope. The physical place is old, rundown, cracked floors. Staff is mostly friendly of not just burned-out. The atmosphere is depressing; deli has one staff person, hot food is often "catch-as-u-can", meats are good but presentation is awful. This place could be great and should be. It's surrounded by luxury apartments, on Lagoon, near the Greenway, and very accessible. Its out-of-place given its location. Yup, lots of security, sadly, but stock is generally okay. Five stars because I visited this place after the riots: it was still standing and Functional as if nothing happened. It was one way to enter and leave. All the glass were barricaded. Most people and all employees were wearing masks. Parking was clean despite everything that happened the night before. Restroom was clean despite everything going on in the Twin Cities. Pandemic and riots didn't seem to affect the energy of the employees. It is one of the only stores that are still functioning in the area despite the riots. This place has really gone downhill. Just this past Saturday afternoon (a fairly busy time as usual), two out of four of the self check-outs were down, there was no one there to fix them, and there was only one regular check-out open. Chaos predictably ensued. There are never any baskets available for if you only need to grab a few things. At least, I never see any by the doors. I might be able to track one down as someone discards one by the checkouts. Lately, though, it seems like they've all but disappeared. It may be extra chaotic lately due to the construction nearby; I wonder if this has led to quitting since it makes it more difficult to access this store by public transportation. The construction is obviously not their fault, but I would think they would want to make their store extra pristine and well-run in order to attract customers. It seems like not so much if you can't even get a basket (guess you don't want me to shop there?) or check out in a reasonable amount of time. read more

I have to say that the two reasons that I visit this place are that they have inexpensive money orders and their restrooms are not locked. Other than that, I do not enjoy shopping here. On the plus side, they just reinstalled a RedBox so now I can rent from them again. Checking out one of their movies however, I was sure my ghetto equipment would not play it. I just rented in the area for a place to stay and entertain when I travel here. I understand it is a bit smaller than other CUBs in the chain, but they have a nice assortment of price points on upscale brands. The staff is wonderful. One of their cashiers, Fred, is just a joy. He's quick, efficient, and can still listen to your bad day. Fred always has a funny little take on your situation that leaves you laughing. This place is the worst. I want to point out that this is only in recent years. Some of the long time employees are great, but this is not a great store. My recent issue is with one deli employee who seems to think that if you ask for more than is already sliced, you're done. TWICE in recent weeks, I have requested a pound of something only to be told by the employee that he only had 1/2 pound (or whatever) sliced and then acted like that was all I could get. My neighbor and I have been coming here together since it transferred from Rainbow Foods to Cub. We aren't frequent regulars but if there was something to take note of from a dark skinned black man who is stalky and a skinny blonde girl in combat boots we'd be remembered and taken note of long ago. As it is we've both had our share of profiling being middle aged and know how to conduct ourselves to not give cause for unwarranted suspicion. I'd found a shirt on my way there so I bought something from my corner store so that I could put it in a bag until I could get it home to disinfect and wash. I made sure not to open the bag at all once inside Cub. My friend had a medium sized bag that is a cross between a duffle and a messenger bag in which he'd placed his reusable shopping bags after emptying out. He too knew not to open it until after paying for his food. This apparently was not good enough for the unidentified men who accosted him at the door. The men involved had no identification or uniforms for Cub or any security company and through the entire process never identified themselves in any way, nor did they claim to work for the store. Who they were was only implied by the continued demand that my friend open his bag. He was being detained from leaving the store, which we both know is illegal and can only be done by law enforcement. This person had no knowledge of even the most basic law. My friend was accused of putting food in his bag -At The Register. Because my card's strip was faded a manager was present the entire time he and I were checking out, so there was that on top of the obvious facts that putting food in your bag is Always done at the register and I offered the receipt to the random man after my friend pointed this out. The man's response was to try to gaslight him by claiming he should have checked his bag before shopping. Not only does that not even apply to what he was being accused of, there's no signs stating this policy anywhere. This guy was just pulling stuff out of his butt in an attempt to get my friend to comply. I explained that his request was invasive, meaning illegal, and pointed out the fact that I walked in with an almost empty bag and put my bag inside of that bag at the register as well. I was ignored and my friend whom I've never witnessed show anger gained a foreign tremor in his voice indicating that he was being pushed. Realizing that I may not be helping, I asked him if he was ok with me going outside and he agreed. As I was leaving I heard him tell the man that the only people he'd open his bag for are the police and he'd be happy to call himself. Unbelievably, the response the man gave was to threaten my friend with trespassing for not leaving!!! ... As he was detaining him! I'd later learn that this was the last acknowledgement he'd spend on that dangerous moron and set off to find a manager. The one he found claimed the situation to not be his job, offered no apology but did stay until the person who is arrived. This location in the store just so happened to be right across from where the second man who was initially part of his detainment ran off to, which was to attempt to detain another woman they'd profiled who happened to be leaving with her son after checkout. This woman had been physically held and when that didn't work they locked the doors on her. The upper manager got to my friend in time to catch a third plain clothed man removing handcuffs from his belt and the manager rushed over to tell him that he wasn't allowed to do that. Who Are These People?? I could hear that commotion all the way around the other side of the building where I was in the parking lot. This woman had been illegally cornered and trapped with her son, assaulted, falsely accused, falsely detained and super human strength gave her the will to pry open the automatic doors with her fingertips breaking the door so that she could regain her personal space and civil rights. The manager got my friend's incredible story, glanced at the receipt and waved him off in release -never apologizing once. I guarantee that woman will sue. As for us, I think the lobotomized crew Cub hired to make in store shopping inconvenient saw me and my friend and decided I was playing the bait and my friend with the bag that he never touched was there to rob the store blind. They stated witnesses saw him place items in his bag hoping that fear would get him to comply but when he walked over to a manager all bullying ceased Immediately, showing that he knew full well that what he was doing was not going to be approved by the store. This was Beyond unacceptable and at the very Least apologies are due. The humiliation sustained for absolutely No viable reason was astounding. Aside from the other woman, not one person during this entire event was stopped. They were targeted for reasons only Cub has the answers to and we deserve to get them. None of us will be returning to Any Cub location. read more

I have been to this store quite a few times since I live close by, I was a regular customer there. There were always major issues in this store, but after today I will never step foot in this store again. I went there straight after work, I had my work backpack on. I also had headphones on. All of a sudden I heard someone screaming behind me. I took my headphones off and saw some kind of "security" guy behind me, screaming at me. I did not know who he was, since he was not wearing anything that would identify him. He yelled "I need yo bag in the front! That is not a shopping bag!" Apparently they treat anyone who comes into the store as a potential thief, screaming and shouting at them. After I realized what was happening (took me a second, since I have never in my life experienced something like this), I said I would not be treated like this, and that I will not shop there again. As I turned to leave the "security" guy yelled behind me "Bye! Bye!!" Do I need to say more? The truth is, this store is not a store. It is a lair of disorganization, aggression, hostility, criminality. For the sake of convenience I decided to ignore it, until it came back to bite me. I implore you, do not go here. I like this Cub store rehomed in the old Rainbow Foods store mostly because it's one of the grocery stores close Cub to where I live. I have to remind myself, "It's not Rainbow!" LOL Also, I've learned that not all Cub Foods stores are alike. Obviously, some are larger than others and have more/better offerings. . Aside from that, I REALLY appreciate the Supervalu Wild Harvest organic/natural brand. The Wild Harvest-labeled items are usually far cheaper than almost all other organic brands, which helps a lot. A pound of organic Wild Harvest coffee can be as cheap as $3.99 on sale versus $8.99 for a canister of organic Trader Joe's coffee. All-in-all, it's a solid grocery store that is accessible and has affordable, quality food and good sales. Unlike previous yelp reviewers I don't mind this cub. It's the closest large grocery store to my house and I can bike here. The parking lot fill fast on Sunday's but if you park at cvs or on the street you'll be fine. The store is fairly small compared to the newer ones but they only had so much space to work with. The layout can be challenging if looking for something specific. Good news is its so small you can't really get lost. Cub is and will be my go to place for the prices and convenience. read more

My least favorite Cub and unfortunately the closest one to our house. Always jam packed, smaller than other Cubs and they carry fewer products. Half the time I buy something at a different Cub, they don't even carry it at this one. I have been approached by a few strange people while grocery shopping, but the presence of the police officer (most evenings I think?) is nice. Overall, I try to avoid this as much as possible. I'd rather go and pay a little more at Kowaskis or drive further out to a different Cub (St. Louis Park!). They DO have plastic recycling bins there! Dear Uptown Cub, I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU. I gave you some time to work on yourself as you got established, but you've instead established yourself as the cesspool of grocery stores. First of all, you made the decision to narrow EVERY SINGLE AISLE to make room for an extra-wide seasonal gift/school supply/greeting card aisle. You are not a big store and that ish is not only nonessential, it makes shopping at every other part of the store that much more unpleasant during high traffic times when you have to constantly maneuver around carts in an extra-cramped space. Adding to that, you always have your stockers out blocking everything during the most high-traffic hours. Despite the constant presence of stockers, the shelves are often bare for miles in certain sections. You manage to always be out of or straight-up not carry the super basic thing I'm looking for. For weeks, you didn't have frozen spinach in any brand. I actually took the time once to check and you just weren't even carrying it. You've since added frozen spinach in one brand, so good for you. You rely much more on physical coupons than marked sales for any sale that's decent. For the decent sales that don't require coupons, they often ring up as the regular price! I remember that happening like once in all my years at Rainbow. And I still can't figure out how to open your stupid produce bags. Uptown Cub, I hate you so much you make me want to move. I hate you so much you make me want to go corporate so I can shop at Kowalski's. Much like the Rainbow that occupied this space prior this store it is completely saturated with in the way hipsters and people who think they understand technology until they get to the self checkout and have a Rain Man style meltdown because they can't figure out how to look up produce codes or pay for their shit. However, it is cleaner than Rainbow and the deli has sanitation standards - so that's a plus. And unlike Rainbow they don't seem to have issues keeping their shelves stocked. Customer service isn't good or bad because it's retail and we're lucky these people show up every day to put up with our bullshit. I have been going to this cub weekly ever since it took over this location a couple years ago. I do see some regular faces of people who have been there since the beginning but not many, the turn over seems to be high. The good thing is that most of the employees I have talked to are friendly. It's a good grocery store to get the basics at. Fresh meats and fish are not here. The fish sometimes looks grey and I watched the guy in the meat department fix his nasty hat about 15 times while he was handling and packaging someone's food. He likes to grab the brim with his gloved hand and the brim is coated in dirt, grease, and some other unrecognizable substances... Eeek. Anyway I go to a lot of grocery stores weekly and I don't think the produce is over priced at all. I think the prices are reasonable and I think the store is clean. They used to have an amazing 'health food' aisle, where I could find the same items from the co-op for a little less. And the International Foods aisle is a joke compared to the other Cub foods. It just seems chaotic and unorganized. And the 'Fresh Meats'? What a joke. I found several blue steaks. I'll stick with Lund's, Kowalski's, the Wedge and Target. Such a sketchy grocery store with creepy people always hanging out outside. I try to avoid it when I can, but it's just so convenient in the middle of Uptown. Cub is definitely one of the cheaper grocery options compared to Lunds & Byerlys and Kowalski's which are also in Uptown, but the quality of food isn't as good and it's a smaller layout store with less of a selection. If you need to go here, my advice is to go while it's light out. read more

Not great! Pretty dirty store, hasn't really been properly updated in years. The lighting is bad. Certain floor tiles are missing. The meat and seafood really leaves something to be desired. The other week my wife bought a weeks worth of groceries, including one rotisserie chicken. When she got up to the register the belt was broken. It wouldn't stop. The employee rang her up, complained that that it wouldn't stop, but made no attempt to help or hold certain items back, like the chicken, which tipped dripping juice all over the belt. She kept ringing up items and putting them on the chicken juice belt. We had to wash every item when she got home. Bad customer service!! read more

I shop at this Cubs on occasion because of it's location but I prefer the one on Nicollet Avenue. Today I purchased a 2 piece Chicken Dinner and one of my sides was Mashed Potatoes. I asked the young clerk for a tad bit more gravy seeing she put a dab on the potatoes and she said she couldn't do more because they weight the dinner. Are you kidding me? You mean you can't place a little more gravy on the potatoes? I will not be purchasing any of the dinners again. I didn't make a stank but my thoughts were...their is a Pandemic going on and the store decides to weight the dinner to see if you placed gravy in the box. Shaking My Head for real. read more

This cub is usually crowded (especially in evenings) and always seems understaffed when they need it. Prices are pretty high. The only reason I come here is because of proximity to my apartment. I would recommend coming in the morning to avoid standing in lines. read more

This cub is the worst in Minneapolis. They have very limited food selection (if I want to make a meal I often have to go here and another grocery store to get all the ingredients). The bakery only ever has glazed donuts where all the other ones have a huge variety, the store is constantly understaffed, overcrowded, and slow.
