Last night, my wife and I went to Cucina 347 in Oakland had a wonderful dinner paid the bill got up to use the restroom before going home, was standing at the urinal just finishing one of the guys from the kitchen came out of the stall didn't wash his hands and went right into the kitchen. I did not see who it was and I was so disgusted I just walked out of the restaurant. I probably should've said something to the manager. Having grown up in the Oakland/Ringwood area, we would always go to the previous business (Oakland Pizza) . Although the ambiance was a little dated, the food was always excellent. On a recent visit back, after being away for several years, we decided to try the new restaurant that had taken Oakland Pizza's place. We went into it with an open mind, thinking the food was probably just as good as the previous business and boy were we wrong. The calamari was overcooked, the sauce was very bland, it reminded me of jarred Rague sauce, terrible! The service was very good, several people making sure your dishes were removed, you had plenty of water and the food came out hot. But a nicer ambiance, doesn't make up for mediocre food. Going to leave 3 stars despite liking this place. However, last night I ordered their 'Sausage, Hot Peppers, Potatoes & Broccoli Rabe' appetizer. I ordered it without the sausage. So, basically an appetizer sized plate of 'maybe' a potato, some hot peppers and the rabe. The menu price is $18. I asked them to leave off, what has to be, the most expensive item on the dish. When the bill came, they still charged me $18. I mentioned this to the server, who had been doing a great job. He said sorry, only a manager can do something about that. OK, Can I see one. Sorry, the manager left. No manager in the house at 8:00 on a Thursday? Or someone who could have made a very simple decision? If they want to charge $18 for a small veggie plate, fine. I recently moved to a new neighborhood and have been trying different pizza spots and for now, I'll rank this one on top. I had my twin sons' baptism dinner here yesterday (34 of us) and could not be more impressed with how well it all went. The owner, Guy, was fantastic to work with, and our server, Teddy, did a wonderful job. I would highly suggest having your events here, and it's also a great spot to come in for lunch or dinner. All of the food is delicious! My favorite things on the menu are the pizza, deconstructed burrata salad, penne arrabiatta (penne vodka with chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, and hot cherry peppers- this one is a MUST TRY), chicken parm, and chicken Napoli, but you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu! Essay over cooked panes seared so much it was black but the cauliflower purée was delicious. Today when I ordered, the girl at the counter responded, "is that a sandwich?" I can go to any pizzeria in New Jersey and order a sausage, peppers, and onions parmigiana hero and there wouldn't be a question. Here, they seem mystified. The food is really good. I got robbed over 30$ by this restaurant. To be clear, on November 23d I put my order online through the Grubhub since it was showing (on Grubhub app, as well as on Google) that the place is open. But, when I arrived to the restaurant the neon light "Open" was on, but the place was closed. By my previous experience from different places, on the next day the order is usually cancelled by the restroom and the money is refunded, however, it never happened and I saw my transaction on Monday. So, Grubhub refuses to pay because of the 48 hours policy and the Cucina 347 representatives tell me to work it out with the Grubhub. End of the story. read more

We had a wonderful pre-Valentine dinner tonight. He had Chicken Saltimbocca and I had Veal Marsala which were both excellent. We had a salad instead of pasta and the bread was warm and delicious. We ended sharing Tiramisu which was yummy. There was live music which was nice but I'm glad we sat away from it because we could talk better because it was louder in front.
