Having grown up in the Oakland/Ringwood area, we would always go to the previous business (Oakland Pizza) . Although the ambiance was a little dated, the food was always excellent. On a recent visit back, after being away for several years, we decided to try the new restaurant that had taken Oakland Pizza's place. We went into it with an open mind, thinking the food was probably just as good as the previous business and boy were we wrong. The calamari was overcooked, the sauce was very bland, it reminded me of jarred Rague sauce, terrible! The service was very good, several people making sure your dishes were removed, you had plenty of water and the food came out hot. But a nicer ambiance, doesn't make up for mediocre food. Other than me and my guest there were 2 other people on a Friday. Ordered muscles fri diavlo that were very good. The octopus appetizer was awful. Essay over cooked panes seared so much it was black but the cauliflower purée was delicious. Our server Alexia was very accommodating and offered a new appetizer, I declined but it was removed from my bill. My friend enjoyed the chicken with artichoke dish.
