I ordered food and was served what were very obviously re-fried fries--dry, overcooked, and tasting like they'd already lived a full life before making their way back into the fryer. Reheating old fries and serving them to customers isn't exactly a sign of quality or attention to detail. It's both disappointing and, frankly, a bit lazy. We have tried Luigi's three times in four weeks and have tried a number of different things and so many have already made it to the favorites list that we have hard decisions to make with each visit! Appetizers: Kim's Wings - Scampi Wings? Yes please! Mozzarella Sticks - super flavor and a great sauce! Mussels in a white wine & garlic sauce - Yum! Fried Calamari - Tasty and a great sauce! Caprese - they make their own mozzarella, yes please! Salad: Mediterranean Salad (we've gotten without the chicken) - delicious! Pizza - Luigi's Special Pizza (Pepperoni, sausage, meatballs, mushrooms, peppers and onions) - Absolutely delicious! For the non-meat eaters and those who just love vegetables, the Mediterranean Pizza (Mozzarella, spinach, tomato, black olives, red onion, feta cheese & pesto) is delicious! They don't skimp at all on their toppings, and the slices are quite filling. (We still order a large to have leftovers!!) Besides the food, the staff is wonderful. Friendly, kind, and funny! Ordered a Grandma thin slice Pizza which I got elsewhere as a round pizza but here they made it Sicilian ... also kept saying Grandpa pizza when I ordered and I had to interrupt him no GRANDMA pizza ... seemed distracted ... also ordered burrito with regular mayo and could not detect the mayo! I've had Luigi's cater multiple events and my guests are still raving about the food. The owner and staff made the catering process so easy. My son and I have enjoyed every one we've tried. I have called a couple of times to give my compliments to the chef. If you're looking for pizza, they offer a very large variety. I personally love their Sweet Thai Chili Chicken pizza. Chicken Chipotle is my next favorite. The thin crispy crust is the best! There are several tables if you choose to eat there. I can't get enough everything I've ordered is super tasty, generous, and well priced. Definitely great quality and well seasoned and prepared food. My favorites are their calzones, bruschetta, broccoli raab, primavera, the vodka sauce and i just had an amazingly delicious shredded chicken quesadilla! My husband prefers their pizza in the entire area and he loves the boneless bbq chicken bites. Best pizza place in Ringwood/Wanaque area. They're super nice and friendly and the place recently got an inside facelift, looks nice inside. I love to order the Melissa Salad, also eggplant pizza (they have regular eggplant and also a fancier one with ricotta). Up next for us... Luigi's Pizza & Restaurant in Ringwood, NJ. We are continuing our quest to find the best Margherita and Grandpa or Grandma pizzas in NJ! First, we were very excited to see the variety in Luigi's menu. Yes, it was tough call - grandpa or the grandma pie? Since we tend to favor the grandpa style... we stuck with that. We ordered the Margherita pie as well. Up first the Margherita. The fresh mozz was melted perfectly; spaced out to show off the sauce and basil (cooked on). The crust was soft , not thick but not too thin (some love their margherita pies ultra thin). No complaints on this pie at all. It was very fresh, the sauce had a great taste; not acidic, and the hint of basil with every bite was perfect. The dough/crust was very soft, cooked perfectly. Overall, an excellent margherita pie, Luigi's! Well done. The Grandpa. Again, we get very excited when we see this on a menu. Not all are Sicilian style pie lovers so it is greatly appreciated when we see this by name. Here we go... the pie was not your typical thick Sicilian but there was enough crust there to place it in that category. The mozz was baked right on the crust, the fresh sauce then placed over the cheese; followed by fresh garlic, basil (this was new to us!) and parmesan cheese. We have to say... the first bite is an absolute pleasure. The sauce and garlic with the taste of basil and even the parmesan cheese hits your mouth where you want to immediately take another bite! Our only negative, and its a small one... the crust. It did lack that fresh taste; it was definitely missing something (not soft but not crispy... sort of a middle of the road crust). Again, not a huge negative because the rest of this pie makes up for it. This was the first time we had basil on our Grandpa pie and it definitely was a nice addition to the traditional Grandpa pies wee had in the past. Grandpa Sicilian - loved it, Luigi's! We definitely want to try your Grandma style in the near future. Until next time... we are making our way through Ringwood, Wanaque, and Haskell to find that perfect Margherita pie! read more
