It was finally warm out so I decided it was time for chips and margs on a patio! I came on a Thursday night and had made a quick reservation online for the patio (probably didn't need one because it wasn't crazy busy), however when I got there they went to seat us at a booth. We asked to be moved to the patio and were moved right away but I'm not sure your choice online actually matters. I ordered chips and queso (chips and salsa is complimentary!), a skinny margarita, and the burrito grande. The chips are hot, fresh, and delicious! The queso had amazing flavor, I do wish it was slightly thicker but that may just be personal preference. The skinny margarita was the perfect amount of lime, sweetness, and just strong enough on the tequila. And the burrito grande was... MASSIVE! Like twice the size of my head lol. But it was so good!!! The carnitas had great flavor, the potatoes were crispy, and we even asked for hot sauce and were given what looked like two different house made sauces that were soooo good. First time for us. I really like the vibe and space. Good buzz but not too loud or too dull. Staff were great. Prices were fair for quality and sizes. Trio dip was really good and nice portions for 4 ppl. Salsa was good. A little spicier than most places but everyone loved it. Kids loved the rice and fries. Mixed reviews on the tenders and quesadilla. (Tenders were juicy but overdone. Quesadilla was so so). I liked the tender I sampled. The rice and black beans were great sides. My tinga was huge! The pork was tender and the onions were perfect. Overall though I didn't really care for it. The Tinga sauce stew was very bland. It lacked the rich tomato smokiness of adobo I was expecting. Additionally it was a pool of oil. Normally I wouldn't mind but it turned my rice into a lagune of oil soaked rice. All in all I'd say pretty good not great. I'm in a relatively, unfamiliar city. My daughter would like to have Mexican food for dinner. Her friend would also like Mexican. What is a dad to do? Why, he takes out his IPhone and searches the internet of course. When searching YELP, I like a restaurant to have at least a 100 reviews and a 4-5 STAR rating to have full confidence. Than I look at the 10 most recent reviews to make sure they are consistent with the overall rating. After this process I threw out some names to the ladies. They selected Cucos Tanqueria. It worked out well. Cucos Tanqueria has the decor you would expect of a Mexican restaurant, colorful and vibrant. We all had lime Margaritas, They were $6.95 each. I had shaved ice while the ladies had theirs on the rocks. They did not skimp on the Tequila. Much appreciated Cucos. For entrees we had chicken Quesadilla $8.98, Fish Burrito $8.98, Puffy Pork Taco $3.69, a side of refried beans & rice and three orders of Flan $4.99 each. Flan is one of my favorite desserts. Top 5 Mexican ever! Nothing fancy, just plain good. Came in on a Tuesday for dinner. Started with the Gold margarita, which was perfect! Had the Shrimp Diablo which was spicy and crazy good. The side of tortillas were fresh off the grill. Tasted like they were smoked. So good!!! Had a Don Cuco margarita for dessert. It was good, but the Gold was better. I haven't been here in years. We stopped for a drink on the way home and sat at the bar. My first time sitting at the bar. The service was awesome. So friendly and attentive without being overbearing. We just had a couple beers. And their amazing warm chips and salsa. The atmosphere is festive Mexican coastal. Very well done. Not over the top. The food here is great. Cuco's I think is one of the better Mexican restaurants in town. Reasonable prices too. That's all you need to know if you're getting takeout from Cuco's. They also have multiple parking spots blocked off for takeout customers. On the other hand, if you're dining in, like I did last night, there are numerous issues. First, their parking lot is tiny and is shared with multiple other businesses. Multiple parking spots being blocked off for takeout exacerbates this problem. The real problem though is the trashy sports bar next door. They apparently have some aggressive road ragers as patron because there are cars that will cut you off and curse you out while you're searching for parking at Cuco's. (I saw those guys then go into said sports bar) The other issue is that Cuco's kitchen is slooooow. It took an hour for us to get our birria taco, chimichanga, and 2 kids tacos. At other Mexican restaurants, we'd be done eating and out the door in an hour! So in summary, takeout at Cuco's is recommended. Dining in on the other hand is painful. read more

I ordered UberEats from here based on Reddit and UberEats/Yelp reviews while I'm in Columbus for work this week. I was very satisfied!!! To be fair, I had an UberEats promo code for 50% off, so the amount of food I got seemed like a great deal for about $17 total after tip and all the fees. I really liked how guacamole was not an extra charge in the burrito bowl, and I ordered al pastor. There seemed to be a really good sized portion of meat in the burrito bowl. The only toppings I didn't get in my burrito bowl were black beans and sour cream. A small chips and salsa was only about $3.99, which seemed very reasonable for a pretty big bag of chips. The small queso was $2.99 or $3.99; it was satisfying but nothing too special. The birria soup was also surprisingly tasty! I never had birria soup; I've only had birria consommé with tacos in the past. I think there was rice in the soup, along with meat. I plan to eat the rest of the soup as leftovers tomorrow, but maybe add more protein to it. I would highly recommend this spot if you're in the mood for Mexican! Think of the Mexican restaurant you loved growing up and would go to whenever you had the chance. It wasn't necessarily a unique name. Usually wasn't a franchise. But you counted on hot chips and that salsa that wasn't like other places. The margarita was truly jumbo sized and usually cheaper than what you get at some bar. The portions were plentiful, and you walk away with either severe stomach pain because you didn't want food to go to waste or with regret that you left that last piece of burrito untouched. Because I'm sometimes terrible at planning ahead, managed to book a table for two on Valentine's here at 7 pm. Myself and my Valentine's date had not been here, and she's vegan. So, you want a place where they can just pile on the guac, veggies, and rice/beans. From the parking lot, it seems that a lot of others had the same idea. After being seated, I knew I needed to try a margarita, the queso, and the fajitas. She had the vegetarian burrito. Every place always has their extra hot salsa that you have to ask for, specially. We're both Indian, so we joke whether something is "white" hot or "Indian" hot. And this one was something in between. The queso dip is fine. It's not as good as some other places, however. But the jalapeño margarita was ginormous and only $9. The burrito was like $8, and my fajitas were $11-12. Dinner for two with one cocktail, two plates, one side of guac, and one side of queso- $42. Pretty, pretty good. Would go back again. I've been told to try this place for Mexican. Efficient staff, and just walked away feeling like I got my money's worth. Was a good Valentine. read more

Once seated, they brought regular chips and salsa (good but nothing special) but soon on the next refill of chips, they brought out three different types of salsas and they were delicious. I really enjoyed their traditional margarita -- large glass with salt rim and delicious! Based on the recommendations with the server, I ordered the "Tinga", which was a delicious slow-cooked tender pork, which had a more than a bit of spice sautéed with grillled onions and black beans. Alas it was not on the menu and there was no offer to make it special, so I just made the most of a sad situation and got the La Mexicana- chili relleno stuffed with chicken, a small enchilada, refried beans, and Mexican rice. Also there was something wrapped in a steamed corn husk (not sure what it's called). Everything was good. Service was alright too. Prices are reasonable, drinks are strong, and they have a small-ish patio out back that is fenced in and very nice for happy hour! For sure a favorite on that side of town! I'm crazy about cheese enchiladas, and really enjoy theirs, especially with a side plate of grilled veggies. In addition to cheese enchiladas, there are a couple of nice veggie taco options, and they have black beans in addition to refried, since a lot of refried beans have animal products in them (not sure about theirs, but I like having the option). This is one of my favorite Mexican Restaurants of all time. The staff are super friendly. As soon as you walk in the smells of traditional spices are wafting from the kitchen prep area which is open to the rest of the restaurant! Chips and salsa on the table at the start every time which is a great hospitable touch. The restaurant has expanded since I first started coming here (a tribute to their success) and has added a small patio to the rear, near the full service bar (where a variety of signature Margaritas and Mexican branded bottle and draft beer is available)! There is a lot of traditional inspired art on the walls - two of my favorites are renditions of the volcano Iztaccíhuatl which is a Nahuatl name (the sleeping white woman). The other is of a volcano named Popocatépetl. The two mountains are named for a princess and a warrior and it is a great folkloric love story. I'm a mountain climber & have climbed in Mexico, so this particular art is a real treat for me & invokes great memories of the real rural Mexico that I love! Wide variety of Mexican food here and the portions are quite generous. I'm a healthy eater but usually wind up with a take-out box going home with me! Quick tip: if you have not tried Clase Azul Reposado tequila yet, you are missing out on life. It is as BTS would sing " smooth like butter". Cuco's has them at 12.50/shot which seems really pricey but it's worth. It's a large shot if that makes you feel better. Seriously try it. It's life changing. Even if you swore off tequila after a *memorable* night out in college. Now onto the food since food is life for me. They have really good fajitas. I got their Don cuco fajitas which has shrimp, steak and chicken. I don't know about you but something about the sizzle of fajitas always whet MG appetite. Their portion sizes are generous and I really have no complaints. Something that I would maybe improve upon would be maybe more rice and tortillas so that the ratio if meat to carbs is better? We came in on a busy night with a large group of people. It took a little time to get seated (understandably), but then we were served very rapidly! Chips and various salsas were plentiful, and I was amazed at how fast they got us served, considering the size of the group. I had the grilled fish taco, which was fresh tasting. Just didn't care for the sweet aioli sauce, but that is just personal preference. We also had them divide up the bills, which the waiter did with great accuracy. I've been on a mission to find a place that has the best Consommé with the best tacos, which is surprisingly harder to find than I thought it would be. Cuco's Birria tacos came up, definitely had to try them out. We showed up, placed our order for 2 orders of Birria Tacos (3 tacos per order), and within a really short amount of time both came out... like too fast. We didn't even have time to finish our chips & salsa. The tacos shells were SUPER HOT like definitely heated up to the point there were burnt crisps on the edges. The consomme was mainly oil and tasted like it unfortunately. The server was a bit pushy trying to get us to order their margaritas several times, and since we didn't, we weren't much of a priority and felt rushed out of there. We received our check before we were even done. I had to ask if it was too late to order dessert. I ordered their flan and it definitely had a hint of bourbon in it, which I love flan and bourbon separately but together just wasn't it for me personally. Cuco's has been our go-to spot for girls night for years. I finally bought my fiancé here a couple months ago and he also loved it! This place is always slammed on a Friday or Saturday night though so be prepared for a wait! Fan favorites have been the quesadillas and tacos. They have several tacos to choose from and it seems like there are often new ones on the menu to try. Last time, I went with the Don Cuco burrito which was delicious! Definitely planning on getting that again! It was pretty big though so save it for a time you are really hungry. Of course, you can't visit a Mexican restaurant without margaritas and their house marg is pretty good. Multiple rounds of chips and salsa are also always necessary. Service has always been good, no matter how busy they get. Their parking lot isn't the biggest and often fills up but there is a lot behind the building for over-flow!
