Good Food, But the Difference in Service Was Hard to Ignore My daughter and I visited on August 30th, and I deliberately waited a few days before writing this review because I wanted to be fair about our experience. We have lived in this area for almost four years after moving from the East Coast. We consider ourselves foodies, especially when it comes to international cuisine, and have explored several Indian restaurants throughout the Naperville area. I first discovered this restaurant when ordering takeout. During that visit, a gentleman whom I believe was the manager was exceptionally kind and even allowed us to sample a few items from the buffet. I told him I would return, and I did. Unfortunately, our dine-in experience was very different. After being seated, we received water, but no one returned to check on us. I finished my first plate, and my daughter finished hers before the naan and tandoori chicken were brought to our table approximately 20 minutes later. I am vegetarian, so the chicken wasn't important to me, but we had almost forgotten about the naan by the time it arrived. My daughter also ordered a simple tea. The waiter acknowledged her order, but the tea never came. What concerned us most was watching what happened with the customers who arrived after us. As new customers were seated, we repeatedly heard the sizzling tandoori chicken being brought to their tables, along with naan, within minutes. My back was turned, but my daughter could see the room and began noticing how quickly the other tables were being served. Meanwhile, no one returned to ours to ask the most basic customer-service question: "How is everything? Do you need anything?" My daughter and I were the only Black/African American customers in the restaurant at the time. I am not claiming to know anyone's intentions, but I would be dishonest if I said the noticeable difference in service didn't make us wonder why our table was being treated differently. We frequently dine at Indian and other international restaurants where we may be the only African American customers present, and that has never been an issue. What made this experience uncomfortable was the obvious difference in the level of service we received compared with the service provided to those around us. Before leaving, I quietly spoke with the gentleman at the register, whom I believe was the manager. When our waiter approached, the manager asked him why my daughter's drink had never been brought. The waiter apologized and appeared ready to get her a tea to go, but by then I declined. I want to acknowledge the manager for his sincere, respectful, and genuine apology. He explained that they were short-staffed because someone had not shown up for work. I appreciated the way he handled my concern, and he is the primary reason I chose not to leave a one-star review. However, being short-staffed does not fully explain why customers who arrived after us, received prompt service while our table was repeatedly overlooked. In a restaurant, teamwork should help fill those gaps. I worked as a waitress many years ago; I am a professional writer, and I own my own business. I know what good customer service looks like, and I understand the importance of how people are treated when they choose to spend their money with your business. The food was good. The service experience was not. After giving it considerable thought, I don't believe I would return for their weekend buffet. There are many Indian restaurants in the Naperville area, and good food alone isn't enough when a dining experience leaves you questioning why your table received a noticeably different level of service. I may consider ordering takeout again because I did enjoy the food, and I sincerely appreciate the manager for listening to my concerns. I hope management receives this review in the spirit in which it is written: not simply as criticism, but as an opportunity to make sure every customer who walks through that door receives the same respect, attention, and hospitality. In comparison, excellent food and customer service have kept me coming back to A2B, Shimla Peppers, Indian Harvest, and Bombay Chopsticks (which also offers an excellent buffet). Unfortunately, after this experience, I don't believe I will add Cuisine of India to my list of favorite restaurants or recommend it to friends or others in the area. For a location within a strip mall YOU WILL BE SURPRISED! The food is really good and fresh! The buffet I experienced had a great variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. The meat dishes were meaty! IFYKYK! They do not skimp on their chicken and goat dishes. For all the Naan lovers, theirs is pillowy soft and they don't up-charge for garlic naan. Spice level is medium very mild, but if you find it is a bit too spicy, you can always ask for raita (yogurt) and they will give it to you. Ambiance is nice too! Inside is very clean. The size of this place is limited but they did a good job making it feel more upscale! Cuisine of India is a lot more spice forward and balanced in the way that is so great about Indian food. I've been wanting to try this place for some time. Cuisine Of India is considered a notch more upscale than your standard Indian cuisine. Yes, I'm a bit more critical when it comes to Indian restaurants as their food and quality can be on either end of the yum or yuck scale. Cuisine of India is indeed yum! The inside is a nice, clean, open atmosphere. I've often stated that my family can be a handful. We can be loud, distracting, and can easily confuse those who take our order. That being said, all who served us politely handled us like champs. They do a good job with presentation. They have great appetizers that set the mood and expectation of your experience. Though I don't like using the word "curry", I love their curry system. Pick a protein, pick a type of curry, boom, a tailored entree. I love that they don't dilute spice levels. Every dish tasted carried its own distinct flavor and was delicious. Their grill items were very flavorfull, smokey, and almost delicate versus a rustic street style that some restaurants have, and I loved that. We ordered their nonveg platter and the grilled items were grilled to perfection. Perfect char yet still delicate and juicy. I tend to leave the butter chicken for others at the table, but theirs was very good. Lamb saag, dal makhani, mutton in traditional style, korma style, and masala style curry also stood out as highlights for me. They, by far, have the smokiest seekh kabab around, in a good way. I'll have to revisit in order to taste everything they have to offer incrementally in order to appreciate the interpretation of their dishes. I'll also have to come back to stuff face at their buffet.. then make someone else drive home as I stumble out in a food-drunken stupor. Overall, I thought the quality and variety of food was pretty good (albeit limited on DoorDash relative to what I heard they have at the restaurant). The vegetable biryani was plentiful and had great flavor, and the variety bread option was nice for the assortment. We also really enjoyed the chickpea dish and saag dish, which both felt like homemade cuisine vs. very creamy, which I appreciated. Went in on a Saturday afternoon. They had said over the phone the patio was closed but when we arrived they seated us there. Patio seating was great and shaded! Indoor seating also liked nice and it was temperature was perfect. Service was ok, didn't check on us much. Food was also ok, but bread was perfect. Fresh, warm, and smelled amazing! The waiter answered our numerous questions and was willing to work around our dietary restrictions. They can steer you through dairy-free or gluten-free meals. I suggest refilling water glasses and having more ice. The other idea would be to leave a pitcher of water on the table. The bathroom was pretty clean but needed tidying up. That could have just been a previous customer. The location is in a strip mall, but upon entering, it is elegant, quiet, and spacious. The samosas came out fresh, though we felt they were a little greasy. Both entrees were hitting all the flavor notes and both the chicken and lamb were very tender. Play attention that you have to order the rice separately as the entrees do not automatically come with rice. Our server was great and promptly brought some out for us once we realized that. I ordered Halim and mutton biryani, I did not know that they had changed the restaurant prior. Location is away from others food places. It is a fast food place., I wanted to sit, but it appears I reached there a half an hour before they closed and I told them I would like to eat here, but they prepared the food and packages and treated me as if I am taking this to go. I think the manager was sitting on one table with his computer and everything spread out., This was a little awkward since the place was extremely tiny and only had about four tables to sit. The set up is nice. The environment is almost clean. Parking is easy. menu is easily available to see. I ate the food at home, the mutton briyani was slightly dry and so was the Haleem. The haleem did not have much meat in it. Portions were fair. I don't think I would return since there are many places with better Halim and mutton Briyani. Like a lot of restaurants run by immigrants, they've suffered from some miscommunication during restaurant week. Come any other time and the service is great. Food is quite good. Most recently we ordered for a big group and all was correct. Nice selection of vegetarian, if you're vegan remember that ghee is basic to lots of Indian cooking. The egg biryani is my favorite. For over 10 yrs Cuisine of India has been a favorite of our family for their exceptional authentic Indian food as well as their great service, both for dining in restaurant and (more frequently since Covid) take out. They really out did themselves this past Friday night tho when our party of 7 dined in the restaurant for a "milestone birthday" dinner - we had a variety of dishes which we usually order and the Chicken Tikka Masala this time was simply OUTSTANDING, one of the best we've had anywhere (including Chicago, California, London, Munich Germany, and Singapore)! The taste was layered with so many different spice flavors and perfectly balanced, and we all agreed it was amazing. Also the whole Tandoori Chicken was especially tender and flavorful, and both the garlic and regular naan were served hot and cooked to perfection.
