I had high hopes for Culver's, but the shake was underwhelming (they called it a "concrete" whatever), and the chicken sandwich was just plain as hell. I'm not sure how my meal ended up costing $18 with fries and a drink, but it wasn't worth it. When I am craving one of the best burgers in Indy or even their high quality chicken or breaded cod sandwiches I am *always* left satisfied. The food is superb and always consistent. The staff is extremely friendly. This is a franchise that will always be around - they place great emphasis on the customer and quality ingredients: I must say the store manager Antonio Moreno is also one of the kindest, understanding, and a man who will go above and beyond for his guests. 2.5- As far as fast food in general goes Culver's, in general would usually would illicit a 4 Star review. However, the custard quality at this location is horrendous. Whenever any vanilla based flavor is ordered it is always over-churned and leaves a film at the top of your mouth with a mealy taste. They constantly end up changing their flavor-of-the-day from what is posted online. When asked about the changes they advised that one of their custard makers has been broken for months (and they are unable to fix/ replace it) and they are always running the vanilla custard maker and can only do vanilla based flavors of the day. If you want savory Culver's stuff this Culver's is standard. It just sucks their custard is not in order for the summer. read more

We stopped at this Culver's on our way through Indiana home to STL. I ordered a bacon deluxe with no bun (gluten free) and made it a basket, my mom ordered the same but with the bun. The food came up quickly and we departed to continue our journey home. I checked our food before we made it a block away and noticed both burgers had a bun. We turned around to get it corrected. The manager (who had assisted with our order when we got there) was extremely apologetic. He offered us a shake or sundae for the inconvenience and error AND had both burgers remade so they would both be fresh and warm when we ate. What made this even better was he took the time to go back and coach the employee who made the order incorrectly, showing him how to read the screen, etc... I'm a sucker for great customer service. I eat here way too much. Fantastic fast food. Burgers are top notch! Half of my visits are probably just for ice cream however. I normally get a concrete mixer, so good! This location is very popular and there always seems to be a line at the drive thru, I dont mind! Staff is always friendly and patient when i take my time to order. I rarely dine in, but the few times I have, the restaurant has been cleanly. Cheese curds, onion rings, burgers and fries, all of the classic drive-thru options. Usually I just get ice cream from Culvers. I would not have ordered a fish sandwich but my co-worker was ordering one so I decided too also. Very impressed with Culver's North Atlantic fish sandwich. (Topped with their tartar sauce featuring olives, capers and sweet relish, crisp lettuce and Cheddar. ) Served on a toasted hoagie roll. We love Culvers and really enjoy their fish and my wife's favorite; the Strawberry field salad. Culvers is not cheap eats and their drive thru has not been good over the last 4 or 5 months. Our orders are either missing items or they're confused and mixed up. I don't feel that I should have to open and inspect my order to ensure it's all there. My spouse and I used to eat here a lot, but over the years the quality of food has dropped so we quit eating there. Until last night... We decided to give them one last go since it had been over a year since we tried them and to say were were sorry we did is an understatement. Usually we get the tenderloin sandwich but this time we decided to try some different items from the menu. I was getting it to go so instead of going through the drive-thru I went in and ordered. When they brought out the food it was missing the ice cream I ordered to which the server said "it wasn't on the ticket" to which I pointed directly to it on the ticket and said "ya, there it is" and he stomped back to get my ice cream. That should have been the first warning sign. My spouse got their chicken tenders/strips and they were just awful, no taste at all. The breading was awful and the actual "chicken" didn't even have a taste, didn't even taste like chicken which I thought was impossible. As a side my spouse got the chili cheese fries which were impossible to eat. So my spouse was unable to finish the meal and attempted to give it to our dogs who had a better sense than we did and refused to eat it. (and that should tell you something if a dog won't eat it) I got the cod fish dinner with green beans and mashed potatoes and while the fish was good, the mashed potatoes were cold and rock hard and the green beans had no taste except the onions they put in which was more than the green beans. Later that night we then remembered "why" we quit eating there as we both got pretty sick (my spouse more than me) and again, vowed NEVER to eat there again. For the price I paid for two to eat, for less I could have gone to O'Charlies and gotten a lot more food that tasted better AND it wouldn't have made us sick. NEVER AGAIN! read more

I have been waiting to do this for a while. I have eaten at this place several times since moving to Indiana from California. I have also had Culver's in Wisconsin while visiting family. This place needs to take its operation to California, because there is nothing quite like Culver's in California. Allow me to explain. Culver's is somewhat of a hybrid fast food restaurant. It serves food in a very fast food type of way, but offers something extra. When I eat at Culver's I find myself looking around in astonishment at the families, couples, and teenagers all eating and hanging around. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Soft blue colors line the walls and tables, and there is even a carpet lining the dining area. I have NEVER seen anything like this back in California. Back home fast food is where one goes to grab their food, inhale it, and get out of there. The insides of California fast food restaurants are usually cold, unwelcoming places, where people genuinely do not linger. A hint of low level depression and sadness (especially in parts of southern California) would sometimes permeate throughout. With Culver's, this is not the case. At Culver's I want to sit down and eat at the restaurant. The food is very exceptional. Everything I have ordered I enjoyed and thanks to my fiancée's midwestern roots, she exposed me to items like the Turtle sundae--fast food will never be the same. Also the employees are always very nice. I enjoy interacting with them and they seem to be usually in chipper moods. I am a fan of Culver's. read more

How have I not reviewed Culver's yet?? When my husband and I get a craving for "fast food" we always head to Culver's. I use the term "fast food " loosely because Culver's cooks your items to order, they serve your food to your table and the employees are generally nicer than "real" fast food joints. The hubby usually gets some version of a butter burger and onion rings. But my favorite is the buffalo chicken tenders. Seriously, they are so good. And spicy! I love the cheese curds (duh!) but their side salad is a nice healthy option. Oh, and they have frozen custard! As a longtime fan of Culver's Restaurants, I've learned what you are supposed to expect on a consistent basis from the chain that began in 1984 in Wisconsin. Culver's exists almost right smack dab on that fine line between "fast food" and "fast casual," an ever so slight but important distinction. The chain has always had a strong devotion to fresh food, quality service, and active ownership. One of the reasons that you tend to get a higher quality of service at Culver's is that owners actually contractually obligated to spend a certain amount of time within the restaurant. As a chain, Culver's does not franchise out to owners who will not be active in their restaurants - this means you don't tend to get long-distance owners or owners who own a bunch of restaurants. As I drove in to this Culver's, I immediately remembered that they have a rather slight three accessible parking spaces in their lot. While I believe that 56th & Post only has five, it just always seems weird as this is a restaurant that does cater to families and an older crowd. Their prices are just a bit higher than your usual fast-food fare, and that sort of implies a different target audience. I would think the older your target audience, the more you would need to worry about accessibility issues. That said, a couple of spots were open so it wasn't a problem today. When you go in the door, you have the ordering counter to your right and the dining area to your left along with the beverage area. It was pretty crowded when I arrived, but the crowd moved pretty quickly and a server at the counter greeted me quickly. I went with the chicken tenders & fries along with my usual iced tea. It runs just over $8.00 and you get four decently sized tenders and quality fries. The food today was about as good as usual. It wasn't outstanding, but it was definitely a couple notches above the usual fast food chicken tender. This particular Culver's gets knocked down for a couple of important reasons, though one of the reasons will come with a disclaimer. First, while most of the Culver's Restaurants are fairly similar in terms of exterior and interior design there are some differences and some of the locations simply feel a bit "newer" even though most of the Central Indiana locations are fairly close in age. This particular location feels "tighter" in terms of spacing. The beverage area doesn't have as much space between the two counters as does 56th & Post, and while this isn't always an issue it's definitely an issue when you're in a wheelchair and trying to maneuver around without spilling anything or hitting anyone. It's not a huge difference from other locations, but it's just enough for it to be a bit more challenging. The dining room, as well, has a cluttered feeling to it that makes maneuvering in a wheelchair a more challenging endeavor when the place is busy. There's really only a couple of spots in the entire restaurant where you'd have any hope of sitting without the possibility of repeatedly being bumped and where you'd have no problem getting out of the restaurant. As I looked around the restaurant today, which is currently decorated with pictures colored by children, I couldn't help but think it looked cluttered and a bit messy. While the pictures are a nice touch, it really makes the restaurant look even busier. I was also bothered by the fact that the first table I tried to access was dirty, a bit of a rarity at Culver's as someone is consistently working the dining room. So, I had to maneuver my way around to the other side of the restaurant to get to the other table I knew would work. These are basic issues, but they definitely impacted my enjoyment today. Secondly, I had an unusual encounter with the person working the dining room that put a damper on the dining experience. As I was wheeling around to the second table, already a bit frustrated, I got to the fairly narrow aisle just as she was coming through. I pulled back and waited for her to come through as I've learned these aisles are not made for two and with my spasticity accidentally bumping someone can lead to dropped items. I sat back and waited for her. She stopped and was clearly waiting for me, but she hadn't moved out of the aisle. I motioned for her to come through. She waited more, then said "come on," but again didn't move. This went on four exchanges before I said in a not so friendly tone "I don't have room. Would you please move?" She moved. I wasn't happy with myself for getting short with her, but I found myself incredibly frustrated by it. Now then, the disclaimer. She handled it well and didn't "avoid" me the rest of my meal as many would. In fact, she seemed a bit more determined to serve and did so with a smile. This visit wasn't my best one at a Culver's Restaurant, but with its fresh food and friendly folks it remains a solid option among the fast/fast casual restaurants. read more

I almost never go to burger joints. It's not that I don't enjoy a good burger, but I don't allow myself to splurge on them very often. Worse yet, I really cringe at the idea of giving 4 stars to any fast food restaurant ...but ... Man, these are good burgers! It doesn't get much better than a double butter burger + mashed potatoes with beef gravy! NOTE: Be sure to be specific on the beef gravy while ordering, it's so much better than the (default) chicken gravy. The super-friendly employees at this location make you feel welcome the second you walk in. One of the best burgers out there, plus it is relatively healthy compared to competitors (if you care about that sort of thing). I can't help but love Culver's. read more

This is by far the best Culver's around. The one in Lawrence is awful. This one is close to my work, has impeccable service and amazing food. This location also always has novelty chocolate for an ice cream topping. The Lawrence location hardly ever has it. (It's the best topping in my opinion). I have a serious weakness for Culvers crinkle cut fries. Pretty sure it's because they are fried with the rest of the offerings. In any case, I love me a small order of fries with a vanilla custard concrete mixer. One complaint about this location...they always have about five to six people working the counter and one or two people splitting time at drive thru and the labor intensive concrete/shakes. And no one ever seems to help out even with no one else in line. Other than that, the store is well maintained for a fast food operation and the kiddos and I enjoy coming here for the aforementioned treats. read more

I call it fast food mostly because they have a drive-thru and it's fast. *** I come from Wisconsin, where Culver's was born and I actually worked during high school at a tiny drive-in restaurant called Gordon's, which was owned by the less successful brother of George Culver, Gordon. Gordon was a feisty old dude, but not a bad boss. The story per gossip around the drive-in was that Gordon and George had some kind of falling out when they were young and went their separate ways, opening separate restaurants. Well, Culver's started franchising all over the country and is now operating about 450 restaurants. And while Gordon's was a Mazomanie, WI mainstay for around 40 years (and is now run by my old next-door neighbors!) it wasn't exactly a smash success. *** As you can tell, that's not exactly crucial information for this review of Culver's on E. 96th in Indianapolis, but I think it speaks to a larger point about the overwhelming likeability and reliability of Culver's that keeps their restaurants hopping. They provide tasty, like-homemade food (especially if you use a deep-fryer a lot at home) and truly transcendent frozen custard. My only beef is when you order a cone at the counter, seems like you always have to wait like 10 minutes for it. What gives? read more

What a terrible place. My wife bought a cheeseburger and fries at the 96th st location and they charged us $750. The next day she went in to show the manager the receipt the manager blew her off and accused her of fraud. She contacted the owners of and they don't return calls. We now have to wait for the bank to get it back for us. There are plenty of better places to grab a cheap burger. Skip this place. If only for the fact they don't value other humans. Culver's is decent as far as fast food goes. Most fast food won't get a four or five in my book as those are for mainly sit down restaurants unless the food is exceptional. The food at Culver's is decent but not really exceptional. The lady at the drive thru had issues with hearing my order but she eventually got it right. I had a bacon single deluxe value basket and my wife had a double deluxe value basket. The fries are okay, not the best. The burger was decent but I have had better. Before coming to Indy, I had never heard of Culver's. They have really good "Butterburgers," crinkle cut fries, fried cheese curds, and the best part? The frozen custard. I will say that if you're watching your calories, you might want to go elsewhere, but the food is totally worth it. Prices are decent, sandwich, fries, and a drink running around $7-8. They also have other items, including fried chicken dinners, pork tenderloin sandwiches, and a pot roast sandwich, none of which I've personally tried. The frozen custard is to die for though! Super rich, super silky, super flavorful! My poison of choice is the vanilla custard, hot fudge, and whipped cream in a 2-scoop sundae. Portions are HUGE. read more
