We love watching channel 9 news for the morning shows/news The meteorologist, Morgan Kolmirer, and she told the viewers about serect menu items. We stopped by to see if we could get the roast beef platters served with mashed potatoes and vegetables, the workers knew exactly what we asked for and served us some very good meals. The beef was served over sourdough bread and it was just delicious and perfect for dinner. We were so full we had no room for desserts. Just go into the store and ask for the roast beef platter. I've never dined in but I typically enter the store for the custard 4 packs and the driver through for food on the go. That said, the interior is always tidy and decorated for the holiday. Food items require you to pull forward with a number and wait, but it's my preference, especially given it's taste and price point. Culver has always been a clean and welcoming spot, and the staff always friendly. Overall, it's a good location, but I feel like the food isn't quite the same anymore. The burgers seem to be getting smaller while the prices keep going up. I received more bread than meat and it being a double was very unpleased. On the bright side, the shrimp is still really good! PLAYING KETCHUP A shocking lack of freely available burger condiments hurts this otherwise decent Culver's. On the heels of a successful appointment at the dermatologist, we drove past this fast food spot in Lyons and decided to stop in for a quick bite on 12/27/19. It's just east of 1st Ave where Ogden makes a weird bend. As with all Culver's, the outside is marked by signature blue awnings and brickwork. Their 'snack packs' are a pretty good deal and start at $6. I always get the bacon deluxe single that comes with cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion and typically opt for mashed potatoes w/gravy in lieu of crinkle cut french fries (a 20¢ upcharge). Cheese curds ($4) are tasty but sorely need some kind of dipping sauce like ranch. That brings me to the only major sticking point I have with this location: their woeful condiment selection. They've got no mayo, no mustard, just ketchup. Just ketchup?!?! ¿POR QUE? I thought we were living in the 21st century, not some post-apocalyptic world where condiments are valued like gold. * TL;DR * Maybe I'm just spoiled by the excellent Culver's in Franklin Park (who have an adequately stocked condiment area, I might add) but I found this one to be lacking. It's likely that they've got packets of mayo & mustard behind the counter under lock and key, but I'm not going to bother asking if there's a line of customers. I have tried a couple different things on their menu and everything that I've tried is absolutely delicious. I am partial to their chicken. The chicken is moist and quite good. Culvers is known for their ice cream. Each time I go I get a concrete and I must say every single time it's excellent. Culvers is fast food restaurant but I can honestly say that their menu is a bit more upscale than a fast food restaurant. My husband and I always get our food to go and I have to say that I don't know how they package it - but by the time I get home my food is still warm. We dined in and restaurant full of young kids, this Culvers was playing very inappropriate music, some rap artists dropping f bombs every 5 seconds, the word sh*t and the N word. Possibly one of the very brightest spots in the dark expanse that is the current endless crisis. Second would be to add enough mix-ins to the daily Flavor of the Day. The burgers here are always made fresh to order and ordering with something removed or something added is never a problem. When you order a Value Basket you get a soft drink (Pepsi products) and pick one side. My favorite side is Fried Cheese Curds but the fries, onion rings, and mashed potatoes are also options I love. They always offer Vanilla and Chocolate Frozen Custards along with a Flavor of the Day (FOD). Every day of the month there is a new FOD and some are fruity while others are candy focused. While most FODs are based in a vanilla or chocolate custard there are a few with a flavored custard like Double Strawberry where there are strawberries mixed in to strawberry custard. The service here is always very good. There often seems to be an employee scheduled just to the dining room during busy times to ensure cleanliness. Instead of heading east on 290 after a meeting in Downer's Grove, I opted to take Ogden. All the way to the city. Sounds painful, but I'd rather be moving then sitting. As I was driving, what do I see but a Culver's! It's the Midwestern answer to the West Coast's In-N-Out. I still prefer In-N-Out for a god' ol animal-style burger, but when in Rome -- er, the suburbs -- Culver's is a fine substitute. And by fine, I don't mean okay... I mean fiiiiiiiine. Soon, I was swerving into the Culver's parking lot, with my discipline set to: off. This Culver's is relatively new, and a bit swanky! Super clean restrooms too. I savored my ButterBurger like it was the last one I'd have for a year. Because, it probably will be that long! Correction: turns out it won't be that long after all. I just checked the nutritional information online and a single cheese ButterBurger with all the trimmings will run you 399 calories. Not bad... and totally worth 40 minutes on the elliptical!
