Came here for dinner on a weekday evening, and the drive thru line didn't have a long wait. We were able to order our food and had it made fresh quickly. Staff was friendly. The food at Culver's provides more options than other fast food places, and the food here tasted fresh. Just wish some of the French fries were less soggy.

Fun trivia to play while waiting for your food.

Updated 2/21/19 When and why did Culver's change the bread on their burgers? They used to butter and grill the buns which made eating their famous butter burgers a delight. Not anymore! Last night my family and I ate dinner at this location and were baffled by a couple of things. First, our tray was brought to the table with only two sandwiches and accompanying sides. There were three of us and we all three ordered food. The server immediately went back to get the missing food items and delivered them to us. We were grateful this was fixed quickly. Second, the buns used on our burgers were taller than usual, dry and hard to eat for those wearing braces. I took the bottom bun off of my sandwich, turned the burger and toppings around and ate it that way. I meant to snap a photo of the omitted bread, but forgot. We have the Culver's Calendar and usually look forward to our monthly visit. Not looking forward to returning in March. I wonder if this is a chain-wise bread change or just the Woodstock, IL location? Have been coming to this location for years. Great location on Route 14 between Woodstock and Crystal Lake. Newly renovated dining area. Clean, open floor plan. Tiled floor along the main walkways. Carpeting under the booths and tables. Plenty of seating for families. Friendly staff takes your order, makes your food, serves to your table, cleans up. Forgot something, just ask. They are quick to fix any issues. Clean restrooms for men and women. Drive through. Outdoor seating, when the weather permits. Newly paved parking lot with parking on both sides of the building. Delicious burgers, fries, cheese curds, and custard. Their soda fountain is self serve. Be sure to try their own brand of root beer and diet root beer! Don't want fries with your order? No problem. Just substitute with applesauce, salad, cheese curds... Be sure to check their website for the custard flavor of the day. This is also where to look ahead for the special of the day like BOGO small shakes and other delicious surprises. Keeps us coming back again and again.

I have to say, this was my worse Culver's experience yet. I asked for a concrete mixer but just asked that they don't mix it..but still evenly distributed the toppings so they aren't just on top. Apparently this was a difficult request. The guy comes back with a thin layer of toppings in the middle only. I ask him to put some on top and by the time I drove away and pulled in the parking lot to eat it...it was completely melted to a liquid. Not even one bite was a spoon full of ice cream...it's literally just melted ice cream with toppings. Very disappointed. Also what happened to their actual cups that have the Culver's logo? Won't be back.

One short one mini melted concrete mixer...which is which?

Went to Culver's for a late night treat. Ordered two concrete mixers. One short with snickers and one mini with cookie dough. Both were the same exact size (admittedly this may have been to our benefit). However both were completely melted by the time we got them, and the snickers also had peanut buttercup in it. I get it was close to closing but if the custard wasn't frozen then don't sell it. If it melted because the guy in front of us ordered half the menu then wait to make them or make new ones. Disappointed for sure but we still ate the melted treats.

    Gross.

The food was cooked to order and did not take long. Food I got the onion smashed burger. I thought it was delicious with charred onions smashed into the burger and cheese. I did not use any ketchup for the burger because it was very well seasoned and juicy. Tater bombs These were a tarot tot on steroids. It came with what looked like a some sort of ketchup/mayo concoction. Basically a fried loaded potato is a shape of a big beefy tater tot. It had bits of bacon and cheese in it. It had a nice crunch and fluffiness to the inside. Though you get six of these tasty potatoes, there are substantially enough for a side (and to some a perfect snack). Overall Definitely visit smashd burger. It is a family and veteran owned burger place that serves great burgers and fun sides. I think I have to go back and try the bacon jam... The atmosphere is very cool, the place is quite big and good for large groups and family meals. The staff was so friendly, and I mean everyone. From the hostess who seated us and immediately told us that Happy Hour was ending in about 15 minutes and to order as soon as we could for any bottles of wine, beer or appetizers. I appreciate that. Our server came over to take our appetizer and drink order. We ordered a bottle of wine and an appetizer, the potato skins. She was so friendly and it was a pleasure chatting with her. The potato skins were delivered to our table and were actually delicious. They were crunchy and the cheese was perfectly melted and topped with bacon. While we enjoyed our potato skins, several servers and the restaurant manager stopped to check on us, which was so nice. Then it was time to order our dinner, and we were going a bit light. I chose to have a bowl of the soup of the day which was creamed corn soup. Mr. Bee decided to have the tuna tacos. Our dinner was delivered in a timely manner and this is where the disappointment came in. My soup was supposed to be cream of corn. it wasn't creamed, it was creamy, with pieces of chewy kernels. There was no seasoning, it tasted if it was just corn and milk or cream, not even any salt. I didn't finish it. Mr. Bee's tacos were odd. The tortillas weren't fried, just warmed and flimsy. The tuna was not like poke. It was shredded, cut, cooked through and not really appetizing. He ate some of the tuna out of the tacos, but nowhere finished his meal and I have never seen him not finish tuna tacos. So when I said this was hard to write, it is. The staff, from the hostess to the servers who jumped in and helped each other deliver food and clear plates to the restaurant manager who checked in twice, they were excellent. Where the downfall is is in the food. Nothing after the potato skins was seasoned, poke tuna tacos would be amazing and the creamed corn soup should have been pureed, with seasoning, maybe a little bacon on top. It was all just so bland and disappointing. So I am giving the staff five stars and the food earns two. It could be great!

The prices are much higher now, but with inflation, I get it. I was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the person who took my order. I was greeted kindly at the menu and at the window. We had my nephew in town and decided we'd go here to break up the monotony a bit and support the M&P chain Unfortunately I ordered a chicken gyro for me and it came w/out any sauce or even a sauce option...which was super frustrating... On top they had a hand written sign on the window as you pick up food saying cookies 3/4.50....well we presumed they'd be standard homemade cookies...not big or anything but fine. So we ordered 2 orders Well we were charged the $9, but only got 2 of the very crappy Otis S cookies. We drove home & saw that we couldn't even get the kids enough cookies...but thought maybe they had the order wrong -- we didn't think we had the receipt...so I was a bit frustrated & we didn't have the time to run back Well I found the receipt and we were charged $9 for 2 (when we should have had 6) cookies. I'm glad we didn't skip this place based on the Yelp reviews. The restaurant is in the heart of downtown McHenry and next to the river. I highly recommend sitting in the enclosed patio. It's spacious, full of tvs, and has a nice view of the river. You can tell based on the menu and confirmed by our server, burgers are their thing. All kinds including beef, bison, chicken, turkey, veggie and fish, some choices are an up charge. The burgers come with a side, some have an up charge. Our server mentioned everything is made in-house. I feel it's a rarity of restaurants to made their food in-house so it made me excited for the food. Everything is reasonably price. I opted for the BFM burger and pickle chips ($2 up charge). The burger was juicy and well cooked. Their burgers are 1/2 lbs so it was big. The pickle chips were crunchy and really good. Portion was huge and worth the up charge. My lunch partner chose Cajun fries and they were crispy and flavorful. Our server was great! She was so nice! One negative, they allow dogs and many people brought their dogs. Since the space is enclosed, I did not like all the dogs while I was eating. It was tricky leaving since the hostess stand is located in the tight entrance and there was a dog right in the doorway. My lunch companion is deathly allergic to dogs. Luckily this dog owner was considerate and moved their dog so we could pass. Other than all the dogs, we enjoyed our meal and would come again.
