Worst service of my entire life well alcohol it's awful they water down the vodka it's honestly gross

Looks like a hole in the wall next to the gas station. This gem has been here for 40 years. We were encouraged to try this place by a couple locals and it did not disappoint. I was looking forward to an old school restaurant you can't find any more in Orange County. So disappointed. Was old for sure, full of cranky octogenarians. Very cramped, loud and uncomfortable. Amazing food, very nice people... We were 7 to arrive and 3 dogs, with no reservation and the owner figured out to find us a room on the side to be quite and don't disturb the other tables. All the employees were awesome!! VIP service. Highly recommended! read more

At first glance this place is bouncing with a senior crowd but upon eating there you learn that the service is not the selling point at all. The customer service (aka the manager) is truly unjust and not a personable woman. She is honestly not someone I would ever have representing my establishment as a restaurant owner. I can't believe we have never been to this hidden gem!!!! A dear friend gave us a gift certificate so we wanted to go before they close for the season. They did not disappoint. They have a great selection of food. Everything is made fresh to order and made in house. We will definitely be going back to try more menu items. It's very small and quaint and you need to make reservations. The entire staff go above and beyond to make you feel at home. Top notch service with high quality food. I recommend everyone experience it for themselves. We were very pleased. read more

If you have food allergies (like dairy) Don't come here. Our waitress snapped at us when we requested no cheese that the they "have 180 reservations tonight and the chef said no substitutions!" Wow! Really? So I guess I will just have water since I bleed internally when I eat dairy. The music is good but don't sit in the bar unless you want to damage your ear drums because it's LOUD. Also bring a ski jacket because it's as cold as a meat locker in there and despite our request to warm it UP the waitress said they get too hot working so I guess the customers will just have to suffer. By the way excuse me for bothering to come eat here. I won't let it happen again. read more

Unfortunately I have mixed feeling posting this review. I enjoy the ambience of the place but the food is the worse in the whole Valley. Visiting the restaurant multiple times and every time hoping for a better and improve food but it's not happening unfortunately. We are coming to see Bill Baker however, you don't leave us any option maybe come for a drink after eating dinner in another place to enjoy the music. You MUST do something about your food. We, means, a big group of us who are coming time after time, and leaving your place with extreme disappointment of the food. Chopped lettuce, taken out of a bag, near frozen chicken, overcooks vegetables and pasta etc. read more

MY husband and I went here on our first date night in FOREVER, and boy did we make the right choice. From the phenomenal service, amazing music, and fabulous food, it was a night to remember. I had the fried chicken and is was soooooo good!! My husband had the short ribs, and those were fabulous as well! We even went home with some of their fresh baked bread!!! Okay, this place is HILARIOUS. First of all, if you're in La Quinta and you're not golfing, and you're under 50, people look at you like you're a martian. I can tell you that this place was NOTHING like I expected. It seems like it's a pretty nice sit down restaurant, however we got there too late for dinner. We were clearly the youngest people in the bar, and our suspicion was affirmed when we were blatantly told that "the Sandbar hasn't had anyone as young as us in it since it opened." So, we sat at the bar - which has a pretty big wine list - and sat back to watch the show. The show being the birthday party surrounding the piano man and his white grand piano. There's nothing like a drunk buch of 40, 50 and 60 somethings. The night really picked up when my girlfriends and I started singing along to "Summer Nights" and were then forced to sing another song... which we of course chose as "Part of Your Wold" from The Little Mermaid. The social director of the party, Ed, was a former "Broadway" starlet, and was still on honeymoon with his husband Bill. I couldn't believe what a goldmine we stumbled on. Words don't describe that evening, and I only wish that you will have an equally memorable night at The Sandbar as I did. read more

So I was taken to the Sandbar by my friend I was visiting who is from LA. The night before we had visited a handful of bars, all of which were fun in their own right. However, Sandar by far won me over. He started by telling me this was a "local" bar. Who wants to go to a touristy place? Right when we pulled up I knew it was going to be good. The guy getting his car from valet happened to be driving my dream car. My friend immediately got out of his car and talked to the guy about letting me check out his car. Not only did he say yes- he got out of the car and let the two of us sit in it. I thought he was going to invite me to take it for a spin (I wish)! Upon entering there were only 2 seats left in the far corner of the bar, which we immediately took. After a couple of drinks the place started to thin out a bit and we moved down the bar for a little more room. My friend started a conversation with the bartender Pete and after a few minutes asked, "So, Pete- do you ever get any celebrities in here?" To which Pete looked at us like we were stupid and said, "Well, you were just sitting right next to Arnie Palmer. He was in the booth right behind the stools you were sitting at in the corner." All I can say is I was heart broken. Everyone in my family has met him except me. I have an autograph from him, but I've never met him. If you can't tell- I'm a golfer. Back to the Sandbar.....loved the atmosphere. Pete was fun to chat with. Cocktails were right on. Hopefully, I'll make it back there sometime! read more

Don't be fooled by the exterior, this place is great! This is an excellent place to eat, have a drink, and just an overall great evening. It starts with Dean at the valet, goes to the great servers, to Mike the bartender. Great music by Bill Baker. The food is outstanding, and the service and atmosphere is great! You won't go wrong here. It is a very homey and welcoming place. Still being ran by Bob Cunard. If you're in town, absolutely do not miss this place!! A group of 8 of us had dinner at the Sandbar last weekend...and it was wonderful! Don't let the somewhat dated decor get in the way of a visit to this delicious restaurant. Owner, Bob, and his daughter, Mickele, welcome everyone and make sure the place is running perfectly. Most of the wait staff has been there "forever" so they all help each other out and are very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items, etc. Our table LOVED the stuffed charred chiles as an appetizer as well as the deviled eggs...which we were fighting over! Entrees had by our group included the canneloni (amazing...rich...decadent), the eggplant parmesan (tender, tasty), the new york steak (perfectly seasoned and cooked), the shrimp scampi (a garlic lover's delight) and the short ribs (which were tender and delicious as well). The Sandbar has live entertainment every night, and the tables in the bar area definitely join in with the singing, sometimes dancing, etc. All in all a delightful evening! read more

Love this place! Had an incident when our waitress accidentally spilled some sauce on my shirt when clearing the table, I tried to have cleaned but wouldn't come out. Called the owner who offered to pay for it but I told him I was fine with food credit, went last night with a party of 8, had a great dinner, lots of fun and spent $900 over the gift certificate I received. It pays to take care of your customers! This is one of the best restaurants in the desert. read more

superb service!!! wow. we had no idea this place existed. we visit la quinta a few times a year and decided to stop in for a quick drink and ended up ordering happy hour, drinks, then dinner. they had a piano artist playing that night who played oldies and was upbeat (we requested two songs and included a tip but we only heard shout outs for it and one verse for each, bummer). very attentive staff, fun hostess and good food. quality food actually. small, intimate and surprisingly a big hit in the city. this place exceeded our expectations and offered more! reservations are recommended and valet parking is available at nights (not sure if its every night). read more

i give this a 3star because it is inconsistent. Up and Down..... i've had fun here and i've had no fun here. I've had good food here and i've had meh food here. I've had great service and horrendous service. Good Things - fun, retro experience with OLDER people....music. Good Food - the sole is fantastic. Bad things - back room smelled like sewer gas....REAL turnoff..... Bad - small, expensive weak drinks.... This was definitely a silver haired crowd. The salad was the worst I've had in a pricey restaurant. Iceberg lettuce with a sprinkling of grated carrots, sliced red onions and an overly tart vinegrette. Yuck! Fish portion was huge. A waste for most people. The rice serving was small and veggies cooked in way too much butter. It was a costly meal. I'd only give this place 2 stars. read more

The service was fabulous- the wait staff is very attentive. I thoroughly enjoyed my evening. Think 1960's or 1970's desert, from decor to personal and friendly service and menu. Went here for dinner on a guy's golf trip and it was perfect. They are evidently known for panko crusted sole, I had the fried chicken. Perfectly fried, crunchy skin, most meat. For dessert the best peach cobbler I have ever had, delicious sweet visit dough topping, delicious fruit. Friends had the blueberry cobbler, equally delicious. Be warned the covers are made in large tureens! If you want to go back to when service was paramount and chain menus were not yet post of the dining landscape go to The Sand Bar. read more

Food was good and plentiful. The music was painfully loud and became worse as the evening progressed. The AC was blasting so strongly, we were all shivering. We just hurried through our meal so we could get out of there. Music also starts at 6:00 so if want to come early and have peaceful meal, no way. Couldn't hear other couple talk. Spoke to waitress. Just received excuses. Place to small for these guys thinking they needed to belt out their songs. Uncomfortable. I can go to Vicky's and get great food with appropriate noise action and livelier. Pass on the menu, but 5* stars for the bar, entertainment, staff & local color. Definitely a 50+ bar, but what a great ambience & fun time as long as u r over 21. If u r looking for kitsch, camp, comedy & a cocktail, u can get it all in one cozy room here. Does it get better than that? Once they bring the menu into the new millennium we can enjoy dinner too, but don't miss the party in the meantime. It's a hoot. read more

First time here for us. Took our neighbors to celebrate a birthday. The service, from the valet parking to the hostess to the waitresses was excellent. We all ordered something different and sampled each other's food. It was all quite tasty. It's a fun atmosphere and we'll be back. Our vehicle was waiting as we walked out--how do they do that? We once again celebrated St. Patrick's Day with Davids high school friend and had a wonderful delicious dinner in the dining room and finished the evening on our own in the bar with new friends, great Irish music & dancing. We missed having our friend Debra DeMarie which we celebrated with two years ago. The food was delicious ...the chopped salad was perfect (not entre size) the shishito peppers were a tasty low cal appetizer. My husband had the Manhattan chowder soup which was very good and he had the salmon entrée. It was moist in a wonderful Asian sauce. The drinks were a generous pour. The staff were very accommodating. We had a wobbly table they probably moved us. It was an excellent evening! read more

This is probably one of the best kept secrets in LaQuinta..... I've lived here most of my life, and always wondered what the Sandbar was..... Well it's the most lively place i have set foot in a long time... When you pull in you are immediately greeted by the warm sounds of the live music and people singing. I opted to sit at the bar. Mike was eager to serve me, and was on the spot with anything.... The food was excellent... I had the duck, and i was taken back. My only complaint was that it took me so many years to venture in to this place! Amazing and a must try! read more

This place is something you would drive by and not really look at. But Oh My-!! You need to stop! It is absolutely delicious. We took our family of 6 for a St. Paddy's night out. Everything was wonderful. The servers were prompt and we loved it. The food is amazing. The only difficulty was the live music was so loud that we couldn't converse with each other without yelling or reading lips, but that also seemed funny... It was a celebratory night after all. Had such a lovely Tuesday evening with my family at Sandbar. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted at the front with a warm smile. The ambiance and energy was exactly what we were looking for (and we loved the live entertainment). I had the lamb chops and they were cooked to perfection. After living in La Quinta for 20 years- I finally tried dinner and drinks at the legendary Sand Bar! I often done alone, and I like to eat at the bar and chit chat with the regulars and the staff. Here- Michael the very experienced and savvy bartender immediately made me feel like one of locals. I was so at home, I ate in the same seat for the next TWO nights! Bill Baker plays on the piano, and also plays guitar- wow- he really puts on a good show! He takes requests, and a few times, some real talent ( not cheesy karaoke wannabes ) accompanied him when he introduced them to the crowd. This place fills up quickly. I was there from Thurs-Saturday- and I always arrived around 6:00. The bar dining is the best. Lots of nicely placed round tables makes the atmosphere cozy and elegant- without feeling cramped. If you want to talk or host a large party, they have a nice fireplace room in the back that looks like it will seat 50 of your closest friends... I had the Panko Crusted Sole- so good. Huge portion! Squeeze of lemon and it came with delicious vegetables and your choice of rice or potatoes. The next night- was my FAVE- Prime Rib with all the trimmings, including Yorkshire Pudding! Also try the Sand Dabs. What I really enjoyed more than the food, was the amazing staff. Each server has a wonderful personality. Ask for Frankie- she is a love and a true professional. I get the feeling that there isn't a lot of turnover in staff- that's a sign of a well managed restaurant. Everyone seemed to be in great spirits and the crowd was super friendly and congenial with one another. Who needs to risk a DUI at the Washington Check Points - and drive all the way to Vicky's or Mastro's when you can get an amazing meal and a show right here in Old Town?
