Food is delicious! Service was horrible. Mother's Day my husband and I made a reservation for 4 o'clock. We were told the only available table was a high top in the bar, no problem we like sitting in the bar. We walked in at 3:50 PM, two couples at the bar. no one at the high tops and two tables in the dining room were taken. The bar tender came over took our drink order, brought the drinks back. We ordered the brie cheese platter and also put in our dinner order. 2 Caesar salads, one with salmon, one with steak. At 4:20 we flagged down a waitress to let her know that we hadn't gotten our brie yet. And just to be clear, it wasn't packed and two couples that came in 15 minutes after us were already getting their appetizers. She quickly went straight to whom we assume was the manager, and he let us know that the kitchen lost our ticket and the brie would be right up. He also offered to take my eight dollar glass of wine off the bill. Brie came- 4;28, it was delicious. As we were finishing up the brie, the manager came over and asked if we'd like to order anything else.‍ I explained that in fact we had ordered when we ordered the Brie . Then they scrambled to get our salads made, with the steak and salmon. It's really sad that the Service ruined it for us to not return there because the food was good. As a recent Bay Area transplant, I was missing my cheese. I spotted TGOM offered a Brie appetizer and because my husband was out of town, I opted for bar top seating. My husband and I were looking for a place to grab a happy hour drink and ended up stumbling upon The Grill on Main in Old Town La Quinta. It turned out to be a great find. We decided to sit outside on the uncovered patio so we could enjoy some sunshine and do a little people watching while relaxing with a couple of discounted beers and wines from the happy hour menu. The patio was a perfect spot to sit back and soak up the atmosphere of Old Town. There's always something fun about sitting outside where you can watch the activity around you while enjoying a drink. It made for a really relaxing and enjoyable stop. We were a bit short on time and unfortunately didn't get a chance to order any food during this visit, but the menu looked incredible and definitely caught our attention. Everything sounded great, so we already know we'll be coming back soon to try some of the dishes. Our server was extremely friendly and attentive, which really made the experience even better. She gave us some great suggestions and made us feel very welcome, even though we were just stopping in for a drink during happy hour. I really appreciate that, because sometimes servers can change their attitude once they realize you're not planning to order a full meal, but that definitely wasn't the case here. Well, I've been to this place multiple times and it's been OK but this last time not so great. We came at happy hour and the waitress seemed like she had way too many tables to handle on her own, which was not her fault. It's managements to get her some help. When service kind of slacks and you're sitting there waiting for a water in the hot sun things can take a turn. The food was just OK no lie it's expensive and you feel like for what you pay you should be getting more than what they offer. I'd probably come back to give them another shot. Maybe they just had an off day or maybe it's just changing for the worst who knows I think they can do better and I honestly think they need more service to accommodate the people dining there . The salmon tacos were dry and not appetizing. The zucchini sticks were OK I've had better. And the cauliflower appetizer was way undercooked. It was almost hard. Wanted to leave an updated review as I absolutely love the Grill on Main for lunch in downtown La Quinta. The ambiance is relax but pretty, staff are always very nice but the food is exceptional. Always a slam dunk when it comes to a great meal, easy to please a large crowd. The menu here is solid. Almost too many good looking options to choose from. I'm a sucker for their salads here. I haven't had a salad here I didn't like. My usual go to is their chopped BLT salad but today I tried their caprese salad with shrimp and I wish they make it a permanent staple on their menu because it come back often! The shrimp here are gigantic and always cooked to perfection. Their homemade dressings are also very good. My friend tried their poke salad and salmon tacos. The salmon tacos were definitely raved about. I'll have to try them next time. The staff here are always very nice and attentive despite being busy. Our waiter ensured that our waters were always refilled. At one point he was smart to just leave us the entire jug lol. It was clear we were dehydrated. It's little touches like this that make all of the difference. If you are staying in downtown la Quinta I'd definitely recommend this spot for lunch or dinner. Tired of the food scene in Palm Springs, we opted to stay in La Quinta for Indian Wells this year. Change of pace. Change of food. We had dinner here and it was great. To start, we shared the fried calamari ($15.50). The calamari comes lightly battered topped with red pepper flakes with a side of marinara dipping sauce. This was as good as calamari could get. I ordered the chicken parmigiana ($29). The chicken parm - delish. It was lightly battered and not over-cheesed. The marinara was sweet with a subtle hint of tang. Even more perfect was the broccolini. Even though it was just the co-star, it was so, so good. If The Grill on Main is making co-stars bright and shiny, I'm absolutely here for it. My son says it's too much parm but it was still good and the portion sizes was great. Tuna "Tower" - 6/10. Too much sauce and tbh idk what they're thinking in that martini glass. It's difficult to get it out the "glass". It's not a tower- it's a "mar-tuna-i" lol. Otherwise fresh and good. BLT salad - 10/10. My daughter loved it and added chicken. Great Old Town dining spot with a nice outside patio for those pleasant evenings. I haven't found a weak offering on the menu. Love the medallions of filet mignon with béarnaise and shrimp. We ate at Grill on Main tonight, and unfortunately it will be our last visit. We've given this place several chances, but the experience continues to fall short. The filet medallions with shrimp were extremely over-salted. Service at the bar has always been lacking -- even tonight, with a bar only about half full, there were two bartenders and neither seemed very interested. No one checked on our food, and my husband was never offered a refill on his $4.95 soda water. Dining out should feel welcoming and attentive, and this just wasn't the case. read more

Excellent location in old town La Quinta with a lot of other restaurants, coffee and retail spots. We came here for lunch and it wasn't too busy. We were greeted by the hostess and opted for outdoor patio seating which is a nice area with views into the plaza, with the added bonus of misters. Our waiter was great, very friendly and came to check on us at just the right intervals. One thing I appreciated was his suggestions on different salad dressings that didn't have dairy/cheese. Also unique was their option of bacon vinaigrette which of course I had to try on the chopped salad. Very complimentary with the bacon bits. We also ordered the Grill Burger which I would give 5 starts and is one tasty burger along with the fries and loved how many extra pickles they gave. Lastly, I should mention two other things: The portions are very good size and the sangria was just to my liking and was perfect for a warm desert day. LOCATION: In Old Town La Quinta which can have parking issues during peak season, October to May, but there is a ton of parking so you will find something. Fun to sit at the bar and they do accommodate larger groups in the main seating area. Very nice outdoor seating so allowing for Happy Hour. MENU: A very nice Happy Hour and the main menu that has something for everyone. Again, nothing fancy just California Cuisine. FOOD PREP: Having visited maybe 20 times a year for several years, have never had a bad or not so good entree delivered to our table. FOOD QUALITY: Excellent, and anyone saying their fish and chips are not the best in CV is not being honest. Fish and Chip with a salad as opposed to fries is a great hybrid meal. Fish and Chips on the happy Hour menu is a smaller portion, one huge or two pieces for fish and it is plenty for one person. Yes... I am obsessed with their Fish and Chips but only order a few times year. LIBATIONS: A professional bar staff and always making great drinks for the locals. Perhaps this Chef owned Restaurant should learn how to train his front of the house staff. Reaching over ladies to serve someone food when clearly they can go around. Number two they backhand serve your plate to you, number three they bring four gentlemen their dinner and not the ladies and have to go back five minutes later to bring her meal a simple piece of salmon and salad and most of all serving me chicken piccata with raw chicken 1000% raw. The Grill is always first rate. Good food, reasonably priced on a really nice patio. We had dinner at 6:30 on a weeknight. We got seated right away on the inner patio. Drinks came out right away. We ordered the Brussels sprout app which was delicious although the server didn't bring plates and we had to track down a second server to get them. I believe our server was the bartender, everyone who was seated shortly after appeared to have a waiter who attended to their table with diligence. The appetizers we did order were delicious. We had a very disappointing experience with the service at Grill on Main Street in Old Town La Quinta. We made a dinner reservation 4 days in advance for March 20, 2026 at 6:15 for 4ppl. The Hostess was very rude and even though we had a reservation requesting inside seating she told us we'd have to dine in the bar at a high top table. We told her we'd wait for a table in the restaurant and she told us we'd be waiting many hours. Her attitude was awful and she didn't care if we stayed or left. I would absolutely avoid this place. You couldn't pack enough oil into everything they serve. The toast that came with the utterly bland baked brie (skip it, trust me) had a rancid taste (we sent it back). I ordered a burger and was never asked how I would like it done (medium rare, etc.) and it medium well - no color variation or pinkish center or whatever. I should have been asked. First of all, the "Grill On Main" does not sit on Main! We looked and looked but could only find a coffee operation where the restaurant should have been. I went in and asked the barista where I could find The Grill on Main, and she directed me to go to the end of their building and walk back down the side. I did, and, Lo, there was The Grill on Main. Although place has a nice appearance, the floor was filthy by the bar no one cleaned it up after probably cleaning the bar top spilled the food on the ground I don't know I just know it was muggy and hot in the inside. Upon arriving the host table is outside and to no surprise no one came to us even though it sat wait to be seated. Finally we walked in and found an employee and asked if we can get a table. At first we sat inside but boy was it hot in there so we decided on this nice evening to eat outside great Choice. Our server was nice and even checked on us. Drinks the espresso martini is too sweet for my liking. The Brussel sprouts was not crunchy and too oily but had good flavor. We came here last for the first time in years and it was really good. From the calamari, Poke and to the fish and chips everything was spot on. Our service from our waitress and busboy was nice and friendly. It wasn't very crowded for a Saturday night but it was 107 outside. My wife and I live in La Quinta and we go to Old Town where the Grill on Main is. My wife always likes a culinary adventure whereas I find something I like and happily stay in that " rut" I either have the burger, filet mignon or maple glazed salmon ( salmon is my favorite) My wife roams the menu and chooses with much anxiety ( thinking she will wish she had the French dip or Israeli salad) The thing is ; no matter what you get, your meal is given a personal care quality . It is not something sitting around in a big pot all day and spooned out after being kept warm all day. Our meal tonight came out freshly cooked and so hot we had to slowly enjoy it! We decided to give the Grill on Main a try in the newly renovated La Quinta old town area. There is ample seating both indoors and outdoors, the menu has lots to offer and the staff are very friendly. The indoor area has a mildly romantic vibe, perfect for a date night. We made a reservation, but arrived about 30 minutes early and had no trouble being seated early. The wine list has lots to offer. We both had the Coachella Salad with added grilled chicken. The food was delicious, the portions were generous and the prices are reasonable. Our server was very attentive without being overbearing. A solid five star experience. We will be back. read more
