Strolling the Mashpee Commons I saw ice cream sign and yes due to the excessive New England heat I needed a treat to cool me down! The opportunity to have bi-racial ice cream was all I needed to sit down and be satiated by some soft serve today. It was a perfict creamy frozen treat. My combination of chocolate & vanilla swirled around my tongue amping up my tastebuds to create a euphoric sensation through my body. The staff of young lady's was very pleasant and assisted me with my purchase. Definallty an ambiance of an old school ice creamery with tables & chairs if you're dining in. This cupcake shop is located inside a shopping mall, called Mashpee Commons. They did have all kinds of cupcakes, from carrot cake cupcake, red velvet, lemon drop, and so many more. They also had some cookies and cookie sandwiches. Maybe you are not a cupcake person, and you are not really feeling the cookies either. Well, not to worry, they have Cake Cups if you prefer to have cake rather than cupcakes. Or, may be you want to skip all that sponge fluff, and just want to dig in to the frosting... Guess what, they have that too! They had Frosting Shots! My goodness, that is a lot of sugar... Enjoy responsibly! They had some seating area for those who want to have the sweets right there and then. Not that many seating, but you don't really need that many at a cupcake shops, as they are more of take-home establishment. We tried three kinds of cupcakes, Chocolate Mint Madness, Flavor of the Month, and Chocolate Raspberry Surprise. They were all nice, good flavors, and generous amount of frosting, making it way too sweet for me. If we were not sharing these among few people, I don't think I could have finished one. This review is for the soft serve only. I have never tried the cupcakes although they look nice. We went in and ordered a small and a medium cup of soft serve. My wifes small was delivered first and she took it to a table to start eating. My medium cup was delivered shortly after. I paid and sat down. Thats when I realized that both were delivered in the identical sized cup and if there was any difference in size, you would need a magnifying glass to see it. Do not order a medium. Just get a small because it is the same amount for a lower price. I have been there several times and only ordered a small. If you are in the Mashpee area on the Cape, you NEED to go to Cupcake Charlie's. I live in Boston and have tried many, many, may cupcakes (I consider myself a bit of an expert) and Cupcake Charlie's seriously has some of the best. I was in Mashpee for a friend's wedding a couple weeks ago and a couple of my friends and I stopped here to pick up some cupcakes. The shop is adorable and everyone who works here is SO friendly. We got a dozen cupcakes and decided to have a tasting with all our friends the night before the wedding. It was seriously cupcake heaven. My favorite was the peanut butter pleasure- the peanut butter was so deliciously creamy and some was injected in the cupcake. However, the chocolate overload, carrot cake, pumpkin spice, funfetti, and orange dreamsicle were also amazing. There weren't any we didn't like so you really can't go wrong. We actually went back before leaving the Cape at the end of the weekend and had a nice chat with the owner who said they are thinking of expanding. Maybe to Boston! That would be amazing. But honestly, I would consider taking a day trip to the Cape just so I could get some more of these cupcakes. Cupcake Charlie's is JUST what Boston is lacking. And I'm always a fan of places that have delicious goods AND super friendly, happy service. read more

Let's be honest, I am a sucker for any half decent cupcake. Give me a supermarket cupcake and you get yourself a smile. Anything better, well that's icing on the cupcake. So, after catching a flick, I saw a sign in the theater about some nearby cupcake place, Cupcake Charlie's. So, I made my way over to get some of the tasty goodness. And, I was surprised when I arrived to learn this was not just any cupcake spot, but a special one that had been featured on one of these cupcake tv shows. All of their creations looked really good. We got a black forest and some peanut butter chocolate ganache. Let me tell you, hot diggity dang theses were good. So, go get you some. read more

I expected a trip to a place like Cupcake Charlie's with my two girls to be similar to a trip to Willie Wonka's chocolate factory. Almost like a minister adventure to a forbidden oasis of yumminess. My expectations were not even close to being met. When we walked in today, my 2-1/2 year old was squealing in delight when she saw the case full of cupcakes in front of her. My 5-1/2 year old acted like she'd gone to sleep in the car and woke up in Sugar Town. The girls behind the counter looked and acted like they'd fallen asleep in purgatory and woke up in hell. A simple "hi" would've been nice. A chipper "welcome to Cupcake Charlie's" would've made my older daughter feel welcome. Hell - a smile would've been a lot nicer than the smirk and the "what do you want?" attitude we got. Now while my older daughter was trying to cut her choices down to two, the girl helping us kept rolling her eyes like she'd rather be anywhere than helping a little girl pick out some cupcakes. And her attitude was not lost on my daughter, who just shrunk in behind me and said, "you pick them, Daddy." So I did. Four cupcakes and three frosting shots for $26. And while the cupcakes were very nicely displayed in the case and meticulously decorated, the taste was, well - it was just average. The frostings seemed less about the taste and more about the sweet. And the cake itself was dense, lacking any real flavor. Their version of the Hostess chocolate cupcake for almost $4 a piece couldn't hold a candle to the 2-pack for $0.99 at the Mobil station across the street. Given the choice, I probably won't return to Cupcake Charlie's again. Instead, I'll frequent the local, independent bakeries where the cupcakes taste as they should and "frosting shots" are handed over the counter to the kids as a treat just for coming in. read more

I live in Boston but my boyfriend is from the Cape. Anytime we're kicking around the area, I make it a must to stop by Cupcake Charlie's. I think a lot of these reviewers are batsh*t insane. "Wah wah too much frosting." Suck my left one, too much frosting?! Since when is that a bad thing?! The Hostess Cupcake is simply perfect! You bite into it and it's instant heaven. They are a bit overpriced, I will agree with that, but at the same time they do have a business to run. I wish there was a frequent cupcake eater's card. That would be a sweet reward. Mike's Pastries is close to me, and their cupcakes are sure cheaper (6 for $12) but they're still not quite as good as Cupcake Charlie's. read more

I often cringe when I see a super extensive menu, because being in the industry I know that this often means that things aren't being done from scratch. I also LOVE cupcakes, so I was stoked about this addition to Mashpee Commons- an annual stop on the family summer vacation. That said, if you're going to do just ONE thing- I expect you to do it well. So I was a little disappointed today when I went to Cupcake Charlie's and they made the mistake that all too many bakeries make. They become so focused on presentation that function suffers. What the hell is she talking about? Function? I'm talking about piping the icing, yo. Instead of covering the entire head of this cute little cake-ette, they put a tall swirl in the center. Are you ready for diabetes? And I mean that in the best way possible. I tried 5 flavors over a couple of visits. The Chocolate PB one is good. It takes its peanut butter taste VERY seriously. The middle is a gooey disaster but a delicious disaster. The icing is very peanut buttery, but only in taste, not texture. Red Velvet- The cake was unimpressive but not bad- just was. Pretty neutral. The icing? wha-bam. Good. It was what a cream cheese icing should be. I would probably only like it cold, but they were sufficiently cold, so cool. Oreo- too much. I don't know what it was too much of. Perhaps too sweet. or something. I just wasn't into it. I especially wasn't into the cream filled center. It's not my thing. Raspberry Chocolate- If you like chocolate raspberry stuff you'll like this. The icing tasted appropriately sweet and the center was awesome and tasted both like raspberry and chocolate and I was left wanting more. Totally good. Mint Chocolate- Not so good. I didn't like the icing. My favorite part of it was the Andes mint on the top...but that was the decoration, not the cupcake itself. It looked awesome but didn't taste that fantastic. The people working there were friendly and nice and helpful and the decor was cute. I docked a point for the cake consistency. Wasn't bad, but it wasn't 5 star. Awesome gem in Mashpee Commons. Amazing cupcakes. My favorites are still in NYC (Magnolia Bakery & Crumbs) but Charlie's is definitely up there with the best of them. I discovered this little gem when I wedding site coordinator told me "if you want cupcakes go to Charlie's". So of course I immediately checked this place out. Now whenever I'm back on the Cape this is a mandatory stop. Red Velvet - My absolute favorite cupcake here. Cake is very moist, icing is rich, dense and divine. Chocolate cupcakes - I've tried several varieties, the raspberry filled, plain vanilla on the top, etc. The chocolate cake itself is great! Always moist and yummy. I wasn't so much a fan of the raspberry filled - a bit too sweet for my taste and didn't like the filling. The plain frosted vanilla was very good. I have yet to try other flavors b/c I keep ordering the red velvet!! Damn, good cupcakes definitely worth a stop if you are on the Cape. read more

I'm not sure what it says about the state of American television(or maybe the state of our country), but we have at least a few reality shows about cupcakes. Sure I like cupcakes, who doesn't? I think we all need to settle down a little though. I've read a handful of reviews about this place on Yelp and at least one person has stated that Cupcake Charlie's is his/her favorite part about Cape Cod. Read that last sentence again. So I took my daughter to Color Me Mine in Mashpee and strolled on over to Cupcake Charlie's. She had the Peanut Butter Pleasure, I had the Oreo Delight. They were ok. Frosting was much too sweet for my tastes, my daughter liked hers. We returned a couple weeks later to pick up her creation from Color Me Mine and headed over to Charlie's again. She had the Chocolate Chip, I had the Vanilla Loves Chocolate. Again - they were ok. Frosting is way too sweet - even my daughter(who would mainline syrup if I let her) agreed. I live in Cali and I am snooty about food. More so, I feel I know my way around a cupcake! My husband and I were visiting his Dad & Stepmom who just moved to the Cape. My step-Mother-in-Law casually mentioned a cupcake place and my ears perked up like their dog when i whisper her name. So of course-one of the days- we went to the little mall in Mashpee (which is pretty cute) and made a bee-line. I love the smell of cupcakes when you walk into the little bakery. What I like about this place is that all the cupcakes are fun flavors with a good amount of cake and sky high frosting! I love red velvet so I like to test-taste them to compare. Good cupcakes, I guess. Sorry about the apathy to my Yelp faithfuls (If I were a rapper this is where I'd give a "big ups" to Jessica). The cupcakes were good but they were cupcakes. Perhaps the hype led to a disappointment. My fiance raved about their cupcakes (like the tea shoppe, there might be a trend). They had about 8 different varieties, which I thought was a little small, but who am I? I think the big thing I was disappointed was how standard the varieties were: "Chocolate loves chocolate, vanilla loves vanilla, chocolate loves vanilla, chocolate mint, chocolate raspberry, and carrot cake." Those are the standards. They also had an Orange Creamsicle and a Boston Cream Pie (I had that one, and it was quite yummy, even with a upset tummy. Hehe, I rhymed). They usually have a weekly special which I obviously couldn't name. So, for those who read the above list and thought that it was a decent amount of types of cupcakes I want to add the disclaimer that I currently live in Chicago and most cupcake places I go to usually have a choice selections in the twenties (and that's at a few boutiques). I don't consider myself a snob, I'm not even a huge fan of them. Again, the cupcakes were good. Lots of icing and very moist (ugh, I hate that word even when I write it). The staff was friendly, but not in a sweet way (pun slightly intended). The space was small with only a table (maybe two) inside and only a couple more outside. One positive, we saw Adam Sandler walk by, but I can't guarantee that every time. Overall, if you want a cupcake, go. If not, don't. Enough typed. read more

Cupcake Charlie's is AMAZING! Their Hostess with the Mostess is phenomenal! They have a great selection and their frosting is perfect. I can never imagine having too much frosting! They even sell frosting shots, a favorite of my daughters! We stop by every single time we're down the Cape or in Plymouth (they have a waterfront store there and just opened one in Newport RI). And every time I go, I beg and plead for one in Portland Maine. The only cupcake I've had that can compare (and I'm still on a quest!) is Magnolia Bakery in NYC. read more

Between all of us we tried the lemon, peanut butter, boston cream pie, vanilla on vanilla and vanilla on chocolate and they were all great. The cake on each was moist and the frosting is yummy. For those of you who like less frosting, take some off! Cupcakes are the rage right now. And honestly, I couldn't have eaten a bigger one in one sitting. Size is just right and comparable to other cupcake bakeries. There are several cupcake bakeries in Boston/Cambridge and all are doing well. So these are $2.70-$3.00 each. Some of the best cupcakes I have eaten. The hostess cupcake tasted even better than the real thing. The choices were amazing, I wanted one of each. I also had a half smores cupcake in a plastic container, which was not that good. It was supposed to be a half cupcake jammed into a small plastic container, but it was mostly chocolate icing and not much cupcake. It also stuck to the lid and made it difficult to eat. I also found a piece of plastic in it. They could also use some plates to make it easier to eat the cupcakes. The staff was very friendly and again the hostess cupcake was amazing with chocolate top and cream in the middle. In Boston, We have Georgetown, Sweets, Crumbs and probably a few others I am missing In Mashpee, you have Cupcake Charles, Its large(cake sized) with seating with a large display of cupcakes front and center. Plenty of varieties abound with red velvet, hostess as well as vanilla and chocolate We had the specialty cupcake with marshmallow on the inside and a graham cracker crust with tons of frosting. What is it with Cape people and frosting? You seem to hate it. Why? Pile it on my cupcake. Charlie's Cupcakes were so good! I'm not big on cupcakes with a lot of frosting but this frosting was so good! I got the chocolate chip cookie cupcake and when I come back on vacation next summer, I'm definitely stopping here! There were chocolate chips baked into the cupcake itself, which I definitely didn't except but was a nice surprise! Everybody should try one if they are in the area.
