So, this year we tried more than the croissant and danish. Not impressed. The cinnamon bun was dry and dense. The cake we had was bland. The muffins also dry and dense. Moved to Falmouth a little over a year ago, and everyone has pointed to Maison Villatte in downtown Falmouth as the be all and end all patisserie in the area. The Maison is wonderful, but it is closed now for part of the winter, and when open the lines are long and service can be frustrating. And I needed some kind of chocolate torte to bring to a party ASAP. Et voilà, discovered The Chocolate Rose, not far from the Mashpee/Sandwich line on Rt. 130. It is easy to miss as you zoom down Rt. 130, but don't. Service with a smile, and the tortes and other pastries will stop you in your tracks - excellent pâtissière work here! The shop oozes charm and the baking scents are enticing. They seem to run a healthy business for those special birthday and wedding cakes, but they have plenty of daily inventory too. Thank goodness they aren't down the street or I'd have to double my workouts. Oh, and they follow masking protocol, hooray. I bought a cinnamon roll that was huge and had great frosting but completely lacked cinnamon. It was more of a honey bun than anything. I also decided to grab a blueberry cream cheese stuffed French toast for breakfast the next morning. It was good but again lacked flavor. There was some blueberry jam on top but none anywhere else. The Staff: We walked in about 5 minutes before closing. The guy that waited on us was very friendly and outgoing. Of course we felt terrible showing up just before closing, but he was more than friendly. He said they usually stay after closing time and are always happy to have people come in regardless of the time. The Atmosphere: The place was nicely decorated, looked like the paint was fresh, and seemed bright and clean. All the desserts and pastries were well presented and looked very fresh. That's probably why we walked out with one of everything! The Food: This is what we all care about the most, right? Everything was delicious! We had about 5 or 6 people trying all the little dessert cakes, and choosing a favorite was a challenge. You really can't go wrong at this place. The cheese cake was absolutely beautiful- had paper thin slices of white chocolate edged with gold separating the swirls of whipped cream and berries. it was light and creamy. YOWZA! We were impressed by their croissants and apple fritters, so we decided to order a cherry pie for Thanksgiving. Stupid me - I thought I was supposed to pick it up on Thanksgiving morning. I received an e mail from Jason on Thanksgiving morning and apologized to him. He said it was fine, and that he'd be happy to meet me at the shop so I could pick up the pie. When I picked it up he also gave me two beautifully decorated shortbread cookies. HOW NICE IS THAT! The cookies were delicious, but the pie was a superstar. Amazing flaky crust and interesting spices added to the cherry filling. Definitely one of the best pies we've ever had. Now our only problem - they are located less than 10 minutes from us, so we have to be careful not to give into temptation too often. read more

Absolute gem in kind of a hidden corner of Mashpee. Had the cinnamon roll and it was outstanding and very reasonably priced. Kids had breakfast sandwiches on croissants and they were so good the kids were hoping to come back the next day. Their muffins were as fresh and tasty as could be. The store is quaint, clean, and inviting as the staff very friendly and knowledgeable. COVID protocols were strictly followed. I stocked up on some delicious (and beautiful!) goodies for my cousin's bachelorette weekend in June. The creme brûlée was outstanding, as was the baked French toast and quiche! I've stopped in several other times for fresh squeezed oj, croissants, cookies, and cinnamon rolls. Also-if they ever put out macaroons, be sure to scoop some up-they are filled with the most delicious buttercream and are the best macaroons I've ever had! 2 stars because they do have delicious product. Unfortunately their customer service could use some work. My husband and I stumbled across them accidentally on the way to Sandwich and I was able to enjoy some of their gluten free products. I decided to follow them on Facebook since we are frequently on the Cape. One day there was a post of a cookie so I commented asking if they carried this cookie regularly or if it was a special order. (It was Peter Rabbit and they are in close proximity to the Thornton Burgess Museum) They replied it was a special order but gave no other details. I checked their website for information on minimums or lead time but there was none.The next time we planned a trip to the Cape I decided to call just to get information. When I called the shop, the person who answered could not give me a clear answer on custom orders. She said "tell me what you are interested in and I will tell you what we can do". Fair enough. I inquired about the cookies and she said the minimum would be a dozen and I said that would be fine. I asked how much notice she would need and that's where things took a turn south. She said that they were very very busy and she began to leak exasperation in every. single. syllable. She asked when we were planning to visit the Cape and it was a week away (on a weekend) and she said they could not possibly accommodate my request (even though I had not made one!) , she in fact said, and I quote, " I'm sorry I'm not jumping up and down to make your cookies". As a former business owner I was actually embarrassed for her. I was very polite, thanked her for her time and said I would call back during a less busy season and hung up. She called me back! I was driving and did not answer but she left an arrogant message saying she was not done talking to me and they would need weeks for a custom order. She may not have been done talking to me, but I simply called for information and I was done being spoken to like that. I did not call her back but I messaged the bakery on Facebook to suggest if they required weeks and months to make a dozen cookies they may want to revise their business plan as well as include that information on their website and social media. I also suggested they find someone kind and professional to answer their phone. So they blocked me on Facebook. Thank goodness for Yelp. *Response to Vanessa the owner: You "remember" wrong. The cookies were for my grandson, not grandchildren and he was not at the Christmas parade, he lives out of state. I called seeking information only. At no point did I ask or expect you to have the cookies ready when we came to Falmouth for the parade. The visit prompted me to remember you existed. You most certainly did say "I am sorry I'm not jumping up and down to make your cookies". You were very rude. Now people know. I'm sure from the other reviews that I am not the first or last person you have been unprofessional to. You were anything but apologetic and if you can't answer the phone and convey information without sarcasm, exasperation, and arrogance, you should ensure someone else answers the phone. read more

We had a small social distance wedding and ordered cupcakes from the chocolate Rose. The cupcakes themselves were phenomenal!! We had the chocolate cannoli and the lemon with lemon mousse filling. Ordered a gluten free cake with key lime filling for my niece's birthday today. I could not be more pleased with the experience and the cake. Everybody was very knowledgeable, professional, and kind from my initial phone call to picking up the cake this morning. I had instructed them that I wanted something colorful and maybe tropical looking and am happy to report the cake was beautiful and exactly what I needed. Additionally the cake was delicious! This gluten free cake was moist, and tender, with a perfectly balanced key lime filling. The guests who normally eat gluten commented on how you could not tell that it was gluten free. Those of us who normally eat gluten free were totally blown away by this cake perfection! It is rare to have such excellence in gluten free. Oh, and BTW, when I picked up the cake I discovered plenty of additional gluten free options available in the case. I got a selection of those too, because who doesn't want pastry-aggeddon for their birthday? The gluten free carrot cake was also outstanding.
