I have been going this place for a long time now. Their cupcakes are really extraordinary. However, there is one thing that I would really wish that they would change. And that is to have their staff to wear gloves when handle my cupcakes. Everytime I go in there, it's kind of disgusting to watch their staff to grab the cupcake without using gloves. I saw their fingers touching my cupcakes, it makes me feel really disgusted. Should I eat it or not I always wonder. Ordered through doordash last night and noticed a few things. Cupcakes were cold, and the frosting was gross. Kind of sour tasting, others have used the word chemically and I agree. I tried this cupcake bakery for the first time today, and I was really pleased! I got 2 dozen of the assorted mini cupcakes, and my family had fun trying the different flavors. We loved them all! I'm as much interested in the taste of the frosting as I am of the taste of the cake, and it was so nice to have distinctive flavors in well made frostings! Was selling a laptop and came in to kindly ask if we can plug it in for 10 seconds to confirm it works since no other place in the area had an outlet. Now I know this is not a place that charges electronics or anything of that sort but the cashier (Lora) was kind and sweet enough to allow us to use the outlet. This witch faced lady who looks like she keeps children locked in a basement chimes in (who we found out was one of the owners!) passive aggressively says "we pay for that electricity but you can go ahead and use it." To which I replied with "allow us to make a purchase to make up for it." While me n my friend was looking for a cupcake to purchase, she was still going on about how they pay for electricity blah blah blah. We both chose Red Velvet. This review is more about kindness and how we are lacking that in customer service. Especially for being the owner. We did not have a problem in buying something to make up for the 10 second use of her outlet but this despicable excuse of a person wanted to definitely know "they pay for electricity." Please do not judge this place based on the negative reviews. I have been coming here for 2 years and stop in once a month for cupcakes. Yes they are refrigerated to keep them safe and avoid them from melting (especially in this summer heat). The prices are fair for the size and being freshly baked. Yes, you could get cheaper cupcakes at stores like costco but they would NoT taste as good as these cupcakes. I just have to stop coming here. I walked in and there was an overwhelming smell of cleaner fluid. I got two cupcakes and I could taste the cleaner fluid in the top of the frosting in one of my cupcakes. Both were old, I would say at least three days old. The banana cake was dry, but the worst part was the frosting on one of my cupcakes was so old, that it became rubbery and inedible. For $2.75 each, this business REALLY needs to sell FRESH cupcakes only. Shame on them for selling cupcakes that can't even be fully consumed. Update: I was just browsing the reviews here and noticed that there have been predominately 1 and 2 star ratings lately, so I called the establishment to leave a note for the owner, to tell him how bad the cupcakes were and to check Yelp. I have been going to Cupcake Craving since they first opened many many years ago. I have always had good cupcakes but this time was hit or miss. We got 2 banana cream, a tres leches, red velvet, coconut, carrot and a Black Forest. The Black Forest was very moist and delish. Good cherry flavor in the moist center and the frosting was yummy. My mom had the tires leche and she also said it was really good. My aunt had the coconut which was good but the red velvet had no flavor. The banana cupcakes were Disgusting and had a very overwhelming chemical taste as you can see from the picture of Mike that I was taking to show my mom how much he liked his cupcake. My dad had the carrot cupcake and said it was good. So since half of them were good and the other half not they got a 3-star review. Not sure we will be back since there are other places to try and my go to failed :-( read more

I called this morning around 8am to place an order for the sugar free strawberry. It's my friend's birthday today and strawberry is his favorite. The owner told me there's no need to place an order and to just come in and order in person. I asked if they'll have them in stock around 4pm and he guaranteed they would. I'm not going to have any craving for Cupcake Craving. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE cupcakes. I'm obsessed with cupcakes, cake, donuts, cronuts ANYTHING with chocolate so I was super excited to find this cupcake shop close to my work. Unfortunately, it just missed the mark for me. I came in on a Friday evening after work for a few cupcakes to take home for dinner. Yes, for dinner. I was pleasantly surprised to see even though it was later in the evening, that they had a full selection of cupcakes. Yay! I like simple cupcakes (chocolate, vanilla, etc) so I chose one Chocolate/Chocolate, one Vanilla/Vanilla and one S'mores Cupcake to go. I think my total was around $6-8 for all three which is typical. The girl working behind the counter was nice and offered many helpful suggestions on their best sellers when I couldn't make up my mind which cupcakes to choose. After eating the cupcakes, I'm sad to say I probably won't be back. The cake was good, but instead of the frosting having a rich buttercream like consistency it was more of a cheaper whip cream consistency which I'm not a fan of. They were all just OK for me. Due to their great customer service and convenient location, I want to support this place, but their frosting is not very good. Granted, I personally prefer buttery and rich frosting and I'm sure there are people who like theirs. But largely, the majority of the frosting tastes just like what you would find on grocery store cupcakes--oily and not very flavorful. Definitely not the frosting one would expect to find at a cupcake shop. I'd legit pay more for real buttercream. The cupcakes themselves aren't bad. Not the best I've ever had but pretty decent. But more importantly, the inside isn't even dolled up, save for a "cutesy" cupcake blackboard sign, all they have is a cupcake display and a gross Coca-cola soda refrigerator. No thnx. I actually called them after I went to ask about their standards on selling cupcake (ie: are they baked and sold fresh daily) I was told their cupcakes have a "24 hour shelf life" so they sell them all in that time standards. I ordered 16 cupcakes online last minute because no other place would be able to fulfill the order in 24hrs. My order went through and said I can pick up my order the next day at my chosen time. I got the confirmation the pickup day saying my order was ready for pick up. When I arrived my order was not completed. The staff said they didn't get the order it usually takes 24hrs which it was, I thought. I had already paid for it online so the staff kindly put my order together. I really appreciated that. But I think the online ordering should be reviewed and fixed if it doesn't alert the store with orders a day prior. I hate to give bad reviews to small businesses, the these were really, really terrible. Service was polite, price was great, beautiful selection and the cupcakes look very enticing. Unfortunately they taste awful. I got the vanilla vanilla. Cake was ok, mediocre and nothing special. The white chocolate curls on top had a strange, indescribable taste that was very unpleasant, like the chocolate had turned. The vanilla icing had no vanilla flavor to speak of. The consistency was stiff and chalky and there was a really strange powdery quality to it. It was only vaguely sweet; otherwise just flavorless. The first time I visited Cupcake Craving was with some friends almost a year ago. We all agreed this place had a good assortment, cupcakes were a good size for the price and tasted good but they were super dry. Being negligent to that experience I recently purchased the Groupon for this place and decided to give them another chance. I stopped in on Easter Sunday reminded of the dry cupcakes from before but thought- "Hey its Easter Sunday, they'll probably have a lot of fresh cupcakes since more people might be stopping in for the holiday." I was right! The cases were filled and fresh cupcakes were on the back counter cooling. I ordered 2 red velvet, 2 carrot cake, 1 chocolate brownie and something with strawberry. All of the cupcakes were super moist and topped with rich cream cheese icing. The only part of this visit that was a let down was the service. The person behind the counter seemed a little impatient. Hey, when there are that many cupcake flavors it's hard to decide what you want! I'm sure I'll be back one day but there are still many other places to try and others on my favorite list. read more

I needed some cupcakes for my girlfriend's birthday and wanted something better than the traditional grocery store variety. I discovered Cupcake Craving through a Google search, and made my decision to go there based on the fact that they are one of the top rated cupcake businesses in Sacramento. I ordered 3 different kinds of cupcakes. I went for the "Champagne", "Red Velvet Rescue", and "Strawberry Dream." Even though all of them were amazing, our favorite cupcake was the "Champagne." The advertised champagne infused white cake was delicious and the taste of champagne was pretty evident. At only $2.50 per cupcake, their cupcakes are AMAZING! Lol I saw some of the reviews about them being cold or frozen in the middle. They offer several bakery desserts so what do people expect? I read it's family run so probably a very small staff. It would make sense they make several dozen cupcakes and freeze some. They charge $3 for each cupcake that are pretty large. I found that to be very reasonable! They are sooo frickin delicious. So far my favorite are the lemon and chocolate raspberry. We are trying every flavor and so far none have disappointed us. I was shopping in the plaza when I spotted the tiny Cupcake Craving bakery in the corner. I was excited, as I am always up for some sweets. I came in and was immediately taken aback by the unfriendly and unwelcoming employees (causing them a 1 star deduction). They were impatient as we were indecisive about which flavors to pick. We rushed into ordering 3 red velvets, 1 carrot, 1 rum, and 1 German chocolate. I will admit that the cupcakes were big and looked pretty; however, the taste was lacking. I tried the red velvet and the cake was heavy and dry. The frosting was too thick and a little too sweet. My aunt tried the cupcake with rum and she said the rum flavor was way too strong. Cupcake. Was DRY. Either they weren't "baked fresh", or they were over-baked.
